Stopped in for lunch on a weekday. The place was packed with people. We were fortunate to get Terry as our server. Terry knew the menu inside out and was professional, informative and personable. The RL burger was huge and delicious. The salmon was fresh and tasty. The Moody Tongue brew hit the spot and the Brussels sprouts were perfection.
Had a girls night out here and it did not disappoint at all! Even with our reservation, we still had to wait 20 mins to be seated so that was a bit annoying but the service and food made up for it. We split a Cesar salad, calamari, and a burger. The burger was HUGE and so flavor as were all the appetizers!! I actually wasn't expecting everything to be delicious since it's right downtown but completely worth the hype. Our server was the sweetest and those blue cheese olives in our martini were delish! Not to mention, the actually restaurant itself had the best cozy, old money vibes that I just loved.
Mixed reviews of RL so had to check it out myself. Solo date today but had exciting news that needed immediate celebration even if alone. First off very classy, elevated, upper east side manhattan vibe. Old school interior wood and decor. Absolutely loved it. So naturally I wasn't expecting too much from the food.....but boy was I wrong. Needed an iron boost so went all in with oyster appetizer followed by a medium rare prime filet mignon. Oysters were very fresh and vanished in no time. The filet mignon???? Chef's kiss! Perfectly caramelized crust and tender inside. Wow. This also came with a roasted whole garlic which melted into a mash with each bite. Every bite of filet was paired with a garlic clove and enjoyed together. The staffer told me this pairing is new in Chicago which they started to do two months ago. All I can say is thank you. The steak also comes with a side of crispy onion rings which were fabulous. Best dish ever!!!! This is an absolute must try for anyone visiting. Coming back pronto
This is an amazing restaurant with a great filet mignon and escargots. Your steak comes with onion rings and a choice of three sauces. Go with the horseradish one and you will not be disappointed. A surprise plus is the roasted garlic. It is an amazing accompaniment to the steak. The escargot came with toast points. You can use these for dipping into the incredible oil and spices the escargots are bathing in. Total decadence. Our server catered to our special needs that day. We asked for our steak to be sliced and he accommodated us. Excellent service! The restaurant's ambiance is first rate. It's decorated nicely and feels very warm and inviting. A five star restaurant experience all the way.
I came here with my 10 friends for my friend's birthday party. We had an amazing and magnificent time. I felt like I was in a movie because of wonderful it looked inside and out. We had a wonderful time. The food was delicious. Erwin was one of our waiters along with Jeff. Both the waiters were wonderful. They made this experience amazing Erwin also gave mea crumber and some of my friends. They have a beautiful souls inside and out. because it was my friend's birthday. We got a free chocolate cake square Definitely recommend to anyone. Will be coming back. Thank you for the amazing experience Erwin and Jeff.
We got seated almost immediately since we have our reservation. It took another 6 minutes from seating before the waiter come and about our drink preference (bottled or tap). The seating was extremely crowded and noisy. Another few minutes before we get our bread baskets. The menu choice is extremely limited. 15 minutes later and still no one taking our order. The specials of the day was only directed to my spouse. Mind you that this was a 2 person reservation only (it's not a big party). I tried the bread basket. I took one bite and decided it is not even worth my effort of chewing, let alone the calories. That cheese crisp is not even crispy with one bite. The bread is not warm and is very dry. The butter is hard chunk cut out. The appetizer is decent. It is under seasoned but at least it is hot and coated correctly. The sauces with it was below average. 30 minutes later, our main is still not in sight. Another 10 minutes, our main came. We got the fried fish and salad with chicken. The dish is much better than the salad. The salad is crispy. The chicken is overly salty and dried. We also got the chocolate brownie, not a fan. As someone has a sweet tooth to put down the fork, you can imagine. Among all the restaurants we tried in Chicago, in terms of ambience, food, and service, Cindy's rooftop and the Shanghai Terrace are so much better. Seriously why can't there be any more good food and service at restaurants like Fred's at Barney's in the old days, or Eleven Madison Park anymore? The only reason I would think I would recommend this place is if someone is a big RL fan. This is almost like one of those restaurants in a theme park, all appearance and not taste.
Definitely one of my favorites in this great city of Chicago. The staff is always pleasant and happy to serve you. From the valet person to your waiter everyone is excellent. My favorites from the menu are the calamari, the walleye, the perch, and the RL burger. The sides are family style and the sautéed garlic spinach and of the course the fries are my go to. I love this place. Perfect for drinks and conversation.
The food was top tier. The ambiance is so cute inside too it felt like we were sitting in someone's living room and the waiter made us feel right at home. It is so cozy you won't want to get up from your booth to leave. The burger was one of the best I've ever had in the city and the filet was cooked to perfection.
Perfect cozy winter spot. We were seated in the main dining room in the beautiful booths. We ordered the RL burger, mini Reuben's and lobster roll. Everything was good - the Reuben's were a fun touch on the menu and perfect for sharing. I did order a glass of wine and I swear it was champagne, but I was able to send it back. Overall it was quite pricey for what we ordered. But we came more for the vibes anyways.
RL is a really fun experience. The food is fabulous, and the service was good. It's upscale, so you definitely get the feeling of being pampered there. We had a large group, and our server made sure we had fresh cocktails and wine often. We had a great time and would go again. Reservations are a must.
I had heard good things about RL, so when given the chance to have a business lunch here, I was happy to attend. Checking in we were given a table in the main dining room and seated way before this place got completely packed, about 20 minutes later. The dining room reminded me of an upscale RL store, with wood walls, bookcases, and similar upscale library style décor. Service was great... helpful, very professional, and friendly. The menu was filled with many great options and just when I thought I selected what I wanted, our server told us about their specials, which included a sea bass sandwich, so I went for that instead! We started with their pigs in a blanket - They were GOOD!! The mustard that accompanied them really added a nice touch to the flavor and the dough they were wrapped in was flaky and tasty. Next up was a bowl of their tomato bisque, again - RALLY GOOD!! The goat cheese in it added a nice, sharp flavor for each bite. The sea bass sandwich was excellent too! The jalapeño on it added a nice spice and the fish was so very soft, flaky, and flavorful! The bun was incredible too... Overall, a great sandwich! I look forward to returning... Highly recommend making a reservation and joining them!

What I love most about the food is how they take dishes that feel familiar and comforting and turn them into something elegant, special, and completely unique. Everything we've tried has been incredible. The atmosphere is just as special. The décor transports you to another era and makes the entire experience feel like so much more than just going out to dinner. My husband and I have been here four times now, and we make a point of coming back every time we visit Chicago. The service has always been exceptional, but if you're lucky enough to have Alberto or Jose taking care of you at the bar, they are THE BEST! They are incredibly attentive, warm, and genuinely kind--and they even remember you when you come back, which makes the experience feel even more special. I cannot recommend this place enough. 100% a must when you're in Chicago. Don't miss it!
How can this place still deliver tremendous fare, perfectly crafted drinks and wonderfully personal service after all these years??? Really not sure how, but they manage! The shrimp cocktail was plump and fresh, the BLT salad was huge and the bacon (really more like pork belly) was tasty and juicy. Love this place........never tire of it. Carly was the most amazing server....her first day and she killed it! Cheers!

Not our first time to RL. It remains classic American in terms of food and ambiance, exactly what you'd expect from Ralph Lauren. There are now 5 (soon 6) restaurants worldwide, and the menus are very similar at each one. I suspect the vibes are also similar. Besides Chicago, I've only been the New York location (The Polo Bar), which is MUCH more difficult to get into. RL is open for lunch, dinner and Sunday brunch; we visited twice, once for a late lunch, once for an early dinner (both "linners", I suppose). RL is located adjacent to the Ralph Lauren store but has a separate entrance. In the store itself is a very popular and quite small branch of Ralph's Coffee. RL has a very clubby wood-paneled atmosphere, to be expected. There is a small bar/lounge area with a fireplace, then a larger dining room. There's also an outdoor patio. Restrooms are in the basement, accessed by elevator. For our weekday late lunch (2:30 pm), the restaurant and lounge were semi-full with diners finishing their meals. Our first waiter was excellent, but he soon disappeared unannounced due to a shift change, replaced by another server who was friendly but became less visible as the meal progressed. It seems like there was less staff during this late afternoon hour. One of the managers, Christopher Yum, came over and introduced himself. For our early Sunday dinner (4 pm), the restaurant and lounge were PACKED to the gills! We saw an open table by the window in the lounge and were seated there. The lounge tables are much smaller than in the dining room, and we were right by the door, where there was a constant succession of folks and waiters coming and going. The line to check in was often long, and I saw several parties without reservations leave due to the wait for a table. They were also setting up the patio and heaters to accommodate more diners. We again started with the same excellent waiter and again went through a shift change, but this time we were introduced to his equally excellent replacement. I was overall impressed by the level of service despite the chaotic busy-ness. I also noticed in the lounge there were 2 solo regulars seated at prime tables and at no time were they rushed or pressured to leave. They even held one table while the diner went to shop next door! The food also was excellent and pretty classic. The dishes we tried: 1) RL Burger. Served with the classic accompaniments including bacon. Served with excellent crispy fries. 2) Santa Fe Burger. A special. Came with onion strings, jalapenos, BBQ sauce plus fries 3) Oysters 1/2 dozen with classic accompaniments 4) Shrimp Cocktail. Classic but beautifully presented as a mini-tower wrapped in seaweed. 5) Creamed Spinach. A cheesy gratin, delish. 6) Old-fashioned 5-layer Chocolate Cake. With whipped cream. Nice but on the dry side. 7) Lobster Bisque. Another classic. They pour the soup over the mound of lobster meat tableside. 8) Caesar Salad. Yup, another classic. 9) Scallops. Pan roasted with a lemon-caper sauce. Yum. 10) Crispy Walleye (aka Lake Perch). A lightly fried fillet, not served with chips. Does come with tartar sauce and coleslaw. 11) Charred heirloom cauliflower. Nicely charred and tasty. Overall excellent meals; classics beautifully prepared and presented. The food and atmosphere combine well to great effect. No wonder the place is so popular! read more

I went to this establishment on 9/28; I called it my Oprah Day! I toured Chicago for the first time, visiting places where Oprah lived, built her studio, or enjoyed great food. RL Restaurant was one. I was treated to affable staff & a magnificent experience! My main server was Amanda (warm aura); I sat outside and told her what kind of day I wanted for myself, the Oprah Day! She shared stories about staff who have worked here for over 20 years and have seen Oprah here. I told her I wanted to be inspired, and I certainly have been in Chicago! We shared personal stories about how fueling yourself matters and how important family is. Then I spoke Spanish with Ruben & Bertin! They told me my Spanish was really good. I had the lobster sandwich & the tomato bisque soup. If you take a little of the soup and drizzle it onto the lobster bisque, you are in for a real treat! The buttery brioche bread melts in your mouth. At first, you are served bread and cheese chips; I call them cheese delights. I dipped my chip, like cheese delights, into my soup as well! I recommend experiencing food through experimentation. Everything here was pure joy! And yes, food can be joy with great staff, a great day, & beautiful people! It was such a beautiful day in the city & it was a packed hour of good people & great food! Then, toward the end, I met Joseph, the manager. Since I love Oprah, he suggested I review an interview she did with Justin Bieber at this very establishment. He was kind, gave me the menu, and his card for when I come back again! When life throws you tough times, it's kindness that heals you. They certainly had no idea what I was going through, but that day made me feel like Christmas in NYC! In the end, I had a wonderful day cap with green tea with a hint of milk (Guyanese side of me) & two bites of my wonderful brownie ice cream dessert! The pictures and words can't describe this experience, so you have to try it for yourself! And when you're done, go to the Ralph Lauren store and treat yourself! The best gift you can give yourself is Kindness, and the best gift others can give you is kindness in return. Thank you, RL Restaurant. I will be back! For that hour, you made me feel seen & helped me get my smile back! I trust these employees and their managers will see my review, because as an HR executive, I know these customer experiences matter to the overall business. Special spot, fabulous interior, great outdoor seating, expert service and delicious food! I loved everything about the evening. Just make sure you get a reservation ahead (thank you park hyatt). We had a wonderful Tues evening, resy at 730 and promptly seated on the patio. I had the NY strip - perfectly cooked and excellent seasoning. Ladies had the liver (barf - but A loved it) and the filet (perfect). Desert is not to be missed - brownie w excellent ice cream and wonderful citrus cheesecake. Wow, so good. It was a beautiful night to sit outside and the high bushes they have keeps the breeze from the lake minimal and provides separation from the busy corner. I was glad we were outside. If you are lucky enough to grab a spot un the bar, definitely do! The wait staff is amazing, the drinks are divine and the food is delicious. I highly recommend getting a martini and the RL burger and enjoy the dimly lit atmosphere of the bar. If you happen to get the corner seat, you can do some fun people watching of shoppers in the retail store. read more

Review is for the bar. Came here for a pre-dinner cocktail with my cousins visiting from Italy. Can you get more American than Ralph Lauren?! Had not been here in years. And I mean many years! Never just sat at the bar so I did not remember the bar being so small but three of us got a seat right away. The turnover was fast. The bartenders were amazingly attentive and one even spoke Italian. Highly recommend! read more
RL was a fun experience! Our service was excellent and the food was tasty. We enjoyed our drinks as well, but they weren't really unique or special. The downside of this spot is that it is truly the most crowded restaurant I have ever been to. It was claustrophobic and we were literally on top of all of the tables around us. Because of that, we won't be back! If you don't like being super close to others while dining, make sure you avoid this spot. read more

Cozy spot with an upscale forwardness to it that's the vibe at RL. It feels classic Chicago, polished but not pretentious. If you have reservations, you're in luck. You'll glide right in and get seated. Us? We like to wing it. And I mean truly wing it. My advice get there early and snag a seat at the bar. It's a tight space, but honestly, the magic is in the bar. That's where the energy is. We went for brunch and split the recommended burger and fries (solid choice), plus a half dozen East Coast and West Coast oysters. Paired it with a glass of wine and it just worked. Simple, well-executed, and exactly what we were in the mood for. Be prepared this place fills up fast. Either plan ahead or have a backup plan if you're walking in. The wait staff was friendly, drinks were good, and the overall experience felt worth the effort. We'll definitely be back. Just maybe with a few friends to explore this gem. read more

Not in all my life have I ever seen shrimp that big in a shrimp cocktail. Seriously--you could make a meal out of just that, and honestly, I probably should have. But I have no chill and kept ordering... and ordering. I followed it up with the crab salad, which was absolutely delectable--fresh, flavorful, and beautifully plated. And then, because I clearly have no self-control, I went for the chocolate layer cake. It was so good and came with a soft, dreamy dollop of cream on the side. I should've just stopped there and called it a perfect lunch. The service was top-notch--attentive at every turn. I think they liked my husband more than me, but I'll let that slide. They don't have sweet tea, but I made it work with iced tea and sugar packets (Southern problems, I know). The decor is a dream--classic, cozy, and full of charm. It's the kind of place that feels like a little escape from the city bustle. Just know that if you don't make a reservation, you'll probably be waiting... unless you know some secret trick I don't. The only downside? The bill. Especially for lunch, it stung a bit. But hey, for a splurge-worthy experience, it was worth it. read more

While in town, stopped here for lunch on a Friday. Made reservations for 2:15 and checked in about 5 after 2. Simply put - this place is an ant hill, folks crawling over each other, each believe they are more important than the last one. Atmosphere is very plush which dark wood, framed photos on the walls, etc. We were finally sat and made a drink order. I went with an old-fashioned which was good. They added table bread for us, and I went with a lobster bisque. They serve it in front of you with lobster meat in the bottom, and pour the soup over top it. Good flavor. I went with a burger for my meal - and as I write this I think I ate more burgers this trip than I have all last year combined. Anyway. Good flavor, bacon was a nice touch and cooked properly to temp. I added the chocolate cake as a dessert which was rich. Would love to come back here for dinner - but for now, good to come for lunch which in the city. read more

Had the chance to dine here on a recent visit to Chicago. I've had the opportunity to dine at the NYC polo bar as well so will provide comparison. RL restaurant in chicago was a relatively easy reservation compared to nyc. Similar atmosphere/decor. It is nice that you can walk in and sit at the bar in chicago (not the case in New York). The menu is fairly similar, small differences in items between the 2 locations. The service is phenomenal but the NYC staff is just a bit better. The vesper martini was delicious. We shared escargot and lobster rolls to start which were delicious. The RL burger did not disappoint and I would argue was better than the NY equivalent. For dessert had the NY cheesecake which came with blueberries and it was amazing. Highly recommend. Would go back. read more
I have a good friend that loves this place as its totally her steez! Very uppity, classic and a god all around joint! Not mad at it as Ralph Lauren is a classic brand and its right next to the actual store. Sometimes we get the bar area and there are times we get the dining area...either is usually a good time. Some of the goodies here are: Escargot Oysters Rockefeller Filet Rossini (w/fois grois) Sauteed Spinach & Mashed Potatoes Roasted Cauliflower Shrimp Cocktail Key Lime Pie (that gingersnap crust is different) Old Fashioned (Reg & Oaxacan), Manhattan, Sidecar Service is always dope whether you have Blake near the bar area or Mauricio in the dining space. Love the classic pics all over the place as it makes you feel like you're in a classy joint. Great for dates or outings with friends. Its usually packed (especially bar area) so you have to get in where you fit in or make a resy ahead of time. read more

Came in for lunch with a couple friends and had such a lovely time. This restaurant is the epitome of luxe. Love all the rich leather with dark greens, lots of equestrian related framed paintings. It truly is a vibe in there and the vibe is fab. Service was top notch, very attentive, polite, and quick. They start you off w a bread basket filled w yummy sourdough bread and Parmesan crisps. I got a cappuccino that was excellent and the special for lunch of ahi tuna. The ahi tuna came on a bed of seaweed salad and avocado and was quite honestly one of the best ahi tuna's I've had. My friend got the sea bass sandwich lunch special, I had a bite of that and it was amazing. Other friend got a Caesar salad w grilled salmon, she loved it. Our bill was actually smaller than I expected, which was a nice surprise, but we also didn't get any cocktails that day. I will def be back, I had a great time at RL! Heads up, only have valet parking starting at 530pm so plan ahead! read more

This is one of my favorite restaurants although a few things have gone a little downhill since the pandemic. The bread option that I like wasn't available. The waiter said sometimes they get it and sometimes they don't. Our food took a long time to be served. I'm very, very disappointed with the key lime pie. It used to be the best in the city, but no more. I love, love, love the calf's liver. The drinks are amazing. Our server lacked in enthusiam and was quite blunt. Two of my guests ordered the veggie burger which was hard and lukewarm. My last guest ordered Dover Sole which she always loves. read more
Didn't know RL had a restaurant next to their store! A must if you can get a reservation. - All the food was great! Looking at some of other Yelp reviews, I noticed a few things that were not on the menu. Just ask! Like the crab cakes and the apple pie! - Service was great! We closed out the restaurant and they let us stay till we finished our meal and drinks. - Great vibes inside, the front bar can get packed but it was nice to enjoy a drink before our table was ready. read more
