A very nice person from RJ Collins came to my home because I had been smelling gas. A person outside my house told me that he smelled it too! Everything was checked, water heater, fireplaces, etc. and nothing noted. I called the gas company and with their hand held device found the leak immediately. They turned off the gas. My husband went in to take a shower and came right back out saying the water wasn't hot. We went to the side of the house and could see the water heater was leaking. We called a few plumbers. RJ Collins was the first to come, just hours after we called. We usually get a few estimates, but they came ready to do the work and understood when we told them we usually get a few estimates. When my husband came in to tell me they could do it right away, honestly, I didn't even care about estimates. They were on their way back to their truck and we called them back. They were super nice and within a couple hours, we had hot water. They must be used to working with people they trust because they didn't want payment, they said they'd mail an invoice it in a few days. What a great company to work with!!! read more

My feeling on this company are mixed. We've had a good experience and a poor one. One plumber did a great job and did more than we expected. The second time we needed a plumber the plumber showed up and sat in his truck a while then came in and did the work which didn't take all that long and then sat in his truck again. In the end he charged us for 2 hours when it should have been an hour job. Him wasting time just sitting in his truck is what put us over the hour. We'll probably be contacting a different plumber next time. read more

These guys are knowledgeable, honest, and dependable. I've had some plumbing outfits drum up work in the thousands of dollars...then RJ Collins shows up and fixes the issue in less than an hour. About a year ago, they sent a new younger tech who couldn't resolve an issue for me. Without me doing anything or calling anyone, I received a call from a senior tech that he wasn't happy with the other tech's diagnosis and that he was on his way. Have used Rj Collins on several occasions and have always been extremely satisfied with their work. This last time their work was 5 stars again. The hiccup came with billing. I accept their hourly rate but the clock starts from the time that they leave their previous job. It is a ten minute drive, at most, from their garage to mine. I was billed for thirty minutes of travel time leaving thirty minutes for the job. Thank God he wasn't further away because there was barely enough time to complete the small job that I had. Additionally there was an 80% markup on parts over retail. Need to find another plumber. read more

Gas Co. detected a gas leak at my residence on a Thursday. Called RJ Collins Plumbing and even though they were all booked up until the following Monday, they came out and found the source of the leak, 2.5 feet underground my front patio. Made the reapir and testd the line to make sure no other gas was leaking. It was a 3 day project from plumber inspection to Gas Co. coming out to turn the gas back on. Plumbers were efficient and professional at all times while on site and cleaned up the work area after each day very thoroughly. We will not hesitate to call RJ Collins Plumbing in the future. If your toilet needs a new fill valve and flapper and a new toilet flex hose DO NOT CALL COLLINS. I did and it cost me $303.08 to do something that in my younger days I could do myself. On top of that, after they had done their work, I discovered that the wall paper was coming off the wall and the plaster was wet and soggy near the toilet. This is in my guest bathroom and is seldom used. I discovered that the seal was broken and that when the toilet flushed water (ugh) ran onto the floor and to the wall. It was not that way when Collins started. That cost me another $750.00 with a contractor to fix the wall and reseal the toilet. Collins said they have a 30 day warranty and no more. read more

My mother is moving and the buyer wanted a water pressure regulator and a gas seismic shutoff valve. I talked to quite a few local plumbers and only a few made it out to give an estimate. A hero! A near crisis occurred when a new tenant was moving in to a house in Monrovia. I had called the city and had the water turned on and put in my name. The water was on at the street but off at the house. My handyman went to turn it on for the tenant, and reported that the tub faucet was running full bore. He couldn't get it to turn off. I figured it was one of the valves (hot or cold), and didn't think to ask him if he had taken the handles off and tried closing the valves with pliers. (I assumed he had.) The next morning, I tried to find a plumber who could work on it asap, which was Saturday. One guy when over and checked it out, complained about the previous plumbers, warned me that I might have to tear up the slab and re-plumb the whole house, and quoted $2200 to fix the current problem. The other two weren't available until Monday and Wednesday. RJ Collins took my name, address, and phone number, and soon after, I got a call from a plumber who was at the house. Once he was inside, he noticed the handles were loose, and that they lacked set screws. He went outside and turned the water back on, and turned off the tub filler with his pliers. I imagine the office will call me with a bill, but whatever it costs, he saved me from that highly negative, semi-predatory guy who didn't even try the simplest thing. P.S. I just noticed a Yelper who was unhappy with the way a tub install was done. Coupla things...I have never known a plumber who does the finishing work after a job like that. It's like expecting an auto mechanic to do auto upholstery. Plus, the first picture shows an ideal outcome, which is going to be a breeze for the drywaller to work with. As someone who has worked with some really sloppy plumbers, I can look at that and think "Ah, someone who knows what he is doing." read more

I don't think I would use these folks again, although they did fix the problem and my son now has hot water in his shower. When I was quoted the hourly rate of $98, I wasn't told there is also a one way travel charge (which amounted to a half an hour). The plumber told me this on his way out the door. He fixed the problem in 57 minutes by replacing a Kohler valve. They weren't able to tell me how much they would charge for the valve. Although the valve retails for $90, they charged $106. The invoice was mailed about a week later, but had no breakdown for labor or materials or travel, and actually stated "Price per Estimate", which I never was given. I guess when you have all the water shut off in the house, the valve pulled out of the wall, and a plumber unable to tell you how much it'll be, you just have to do it? read more
