But couple of days before the work was to begin, Orlando informed me that they wont be able to make it and wanted to re-schedule it few of weeks later. I had an event at my home where I needed the patio to be made. I informed them that if I cannot re-schedule my event, I will need my money back. To this they agreed. Orlando Rivera, of Rivera Brother's Remodeling, underbid, then nearly doubled the quote after exposing the damage. After paying him $3200.00 upfront, he came back asking for another $3000.00. He noticed that I was upset at the increase, and said that he would refund the initial down payment, and let me find another company to do the job. I asked if he could take $1000 off, and he responded that he wouldn't make any money on the job. I wanted the job done, so I met his demand for a second down payment to cover the increased quote. I spent that afternoon researching costs, and determined that he was overcharging by at least $2000. I called that same evening to cancel the job. He countered with an offer to do the same job for $1500 less. By this time, I felt I could no longer trust him, so I declined, He then demanded that he keep $1500 for his time so far, which included exposing the damage (about 25'x25' of asphalt shingles and " plywood) and installing a tarp to protect the exposed beams from the rain. Under protest, I agreed. It seems $500 would have been more than fair. It then took another three months of texts (many unanswered by him), phone calls, and excuses before he finally repaid the down payments, less $1500. read more

We had a really hard time finding a contractor that we felt could handle the job - many were non-responsive or didn't seem to fully understand the requirements of the job, which involved repair of both pavers and an iron railing.
