Low Country Trout
Lindsay B.

The River Oak Chophouse is located in the charming town of Madison and boasts an elegant dining area. Our waitress was fantastic. She was very kind and apologized for the unavailable menu items. Unfortunately we should have take a look at the menu before we made the reservation, because the prices are very high. Of course, the cheapest item on the dinner menu was one of the unavailable dishes. My friend and I were celebrating her birthday, so we decided that the food sounded delicious and since it was her birthday we were okay spending a little more than normal. Unfortunately the food was underwhelming given the description and price. I had the low country trout. The amount of trout in the dish was a bit small for the price, but it tasted fine. The leeks, however, were so salty that I had to eat them with the polenta just to make them palatable. Now let's talk about the polenta. It is advertised as seafood polenta. There was no seafood in it, unless they are referring to the trout that was on top of it. The best part of the meal was the banana cheesecake, which we got to go. I'm not sure that it was worth $14 for one slice, but it was delicious. I recommend skipping the overpriced meal, treat yourself to some banana cheesecake and call it a night. There are so many other choices for excellent food.

Surf and Turf

Good service. Faster than expected. Very clean. Crab and potato were light and flavorful. The filet had to be recooked but came out the second time phenomenal. The smothered chicken as good just needed to be salted a bit more. We would return!

This was a super awesome sort of fancy, sort of casual restaurant we found during our recent trip to Madison Indiana. They had a menu full of seafood and steak options but so I got a bit of both. I got the Wood Fired Surf And Turf which was an 8 ounce filet, 2 garlic butter Gulf Shrimp, seafood polenta, broccolini, and black truffle cream. Now even though this was a $62 plate of food I'm here to tell you that it was worth every penny. The sides were good but those shrimp were stellar and this was a steak that you could only get at a chophouse. So juicy and so full of flavour it literally melted in my mouth for every bite. It was a meal fit for a king. The restaurant was really awesome looking and the service was as good as it could possibly be. I can't wait to save up a few extra dollars and get dressed up and come back for more.

Best steak we've ever had!! The steak melts in your mouth!! Especially the filet! Wonderful experience and service. Ask for Paige.

Ribeye Dinner- bland and overcooked :(

Service was great! The restaurant can get loud after 7pm when the bar crowd arrives. My husband and I LOVED the shrimp cocktail- it was so fresh tasting and the presentation was amazing! I ordered the smothered chicken and could have licked the plate clean. My husband, on the other hand, ordered the ribeye dinner and was disappointed. The steak was slightly overcooked and tasted like it hadn't been seasoned at all. For $62 at a steak house, we were bummed out about it, but salt and pepper made it bearable.

Seafood dip appetizer and Branzino entree. Hubby had Low Country Trout. We shared Bananas Foster Cheesecake for dessert.

Excellent menu, service, and ambiance. We've tried 7-8 different dishes over our visits and all of them have been great.

From the moment you walk in, you can feel the pride and passion the owners pour into this place. They genuinely care about the experience they deliver, and it shows in every detail -- from the warm hospitality to the incredible quality of the food. The dish pictured here was phenomenal -- perfectly cooked, beautifully presented, and packed with rich flavor. Every bite tasted like it was crafted with intention. You don't just get a meal here, you get something memorable. The Red consistently delivers elevated dining without ever losing that small-town heart. The owners are amazing people who have created a spot that Madison should be proud of, and I'll keep coming back for both the quality and the community they've built. If you're looking for a place with outstanding food, great drinks, and a team that truly cares -- The Red on Main is it. Highly recommend!

My husband ordered a beer and I ordered a Winter Spiced Old Fashioned. Whenever I order a cocktail that has cinnamon in it I always worry about the cinnamon overpowering the drink but this cocktail was perfectly balanced and I would order it again. Our waitress, Darri, told us what the specials were when she took our drink order. The specials of the day were a steak pasta and steak tacos. The hubby ordered the steak tacos, they came with fries. I ordered the Red Combo, half Caesar salad and a small bowl of soup which today was crab and shrimp bisque. The hubby said his tacos and fries were very good. My bisque was pretty thin but the flavor was really good. My salad was good as well. The restaurant had wood floors and brick walls making for a cozy lunch. I was told I need to come in to try the dinner and I think we will. Definitely worth a try while in Madison, Indiana.

This IS where you need to go to accomplish either Check it out before the seasonal menu - decor are gone Popped in here Tuesday (mostly to sit beside the decor) & for a holiday coffee with a small bite. The moment you walk in you're engulfed in kitschy decor and... it's GREAT!! My server was so nice. Showed me their standard menu & the holiday menu. Even pointed out there was an upstairs ((which wasn't aware of)) I placed my order: peppermint mocha & a sausage egg cheese croissant. Neither disappointed! This place was also down the block from our Airbnb so we could walk there. They had a lot of boozy coffee drinks and I really like that. I decided to try their Espresso Martini. This was our last bar stop prior to going out to dinner with friends. My drink had a house made espresso, Absolut vodka, Borghetti (coffee liqueur), a rich simple syrup, and coffee beans. My drink was rich and delicious and I absolutely loved their espresso. I do not recall what drinks my friends ordered. By the time we were leaving there was plenty of people in the place and appeared there was some sort of event gathering. We will have to come back here and with all the coffee drinks they had this may well be the place to start our day next time.

A Must-Visit Gem in Vevay!!!…read more Roxy's is exactly the kind of place that makes a small town trip unforgettable. From the moment we walked in, the vibe hit -- rich colors, vintage decor, great music, and an atmosphere that feels both intimate and creatively alive. Roxy herself greeted us right at the door, and that personal touch set the tone for the entire visit. The menu has great range and something for everyone. I ordered one of the 'Roxy' cocktails and a cappuccino (hey, it's called BALANCE! ) , and both were genuinely delicious -- handcrafted and thoughtfully made. For food, we went with the 'Farm-Flat' (aka Eloté) flatbread and a turkey pesto sandwich, and they were amazing. Presentation was beautiful, the flavors were on point, and the portions were so generous that we walked out with leftover flatbread (fair warning -- come hungry or plan to take some home). What really elevated the experience was the hospitality. Our food came out quickly, the staff was warm and attentive, and Roxy took the time to chat with us about local events and what makes Vevay such a special place to visit and live. What a gem of a human. You can tell this isn't just a business to her -- it's a love letter to the town. We can't wait to come back. If you're anywhere near Vevay, Roxy's is a can't-miss stop. Five stars all day.

Okay I am going to preface this review with the opinion that I do not think they should be rated…read morethis low but on this day they were. This was my first time in Roxy's and it was a Saturday at about 1:30. This particular Saturday the Kat Von D black tulip field down the street was nearing the end of its life. This town was bustling with people. I walked into Roxy's and stood in the doorway not quite knowing what to do, do you wait for someone to greet you here? Still not sure about that but finally I saw a couple seats at a high top next to the bar and I walked over and sat down. The inside of the restaurant was full and the outdoor patio was filling up as well. I was right next to the bar so the bartender was right behind me and waitresses were right behind me constantly. It still took almost 20 minutes just to get a menu, as a matter of fact we did not get a menu until the waitress came over to take our order and we said we do not have a menu. My girlfriend and I decided on a flatbread to split and some truffle fries to split. We ordered our cocktails, she had The Roxy and I ordered the Carajillo. We went to order when she brought our cocktails back and she said, "Oh, I forgot to tell you, we cannot do flatbreads because the dough is not ready and we are out of the soup." So we did not want her to get away so we quickly decided on something else. My friend ordered a roast beef sandwich and I stuck with the truffle fries. The place is cute on the inside and it was clean. We received our food and the food was enjoyable, my fries were hot and crisp with a lovely lemon aioli on the side for dipping and my friend said her sandwich was good. It was a really good thing we were not in a big hurry. We will be making more trips to Vevay as very soon Kat Von D is opening a new clothing shop and we want to go to see it. We may return to give Roxy's another try when the staff is not completely overwhelmed.

It's a nice hotel, and a pleasant steakhouse, but not sure it demands quite that much love. Most importantly, they don't know how to cook a steak. The flavor is spot on, you can really taste the wood fire, and the steaks are seasoned well. But the wife ordered a filet medium and it came out blood rare. My medium rare strip was presented rare, which I'm ok with, though it was noticeably still a bit more cooked than her "medium" filet. Having to return a steak to get it cooked properly, at an apparently well respected upscale steakhouse, is a disappointment, a big bump in the middle of a pleasant evening. We started with the oysters rock, which were quite good, and quite large. The french onion soup was a nice classic version. We split an heirloom tomato salad, and each still got two very large and thick slices of tomato, making the split a good sized salad for each of us. The balsamic pearls were a treat. An unexpected pleasure were the parker house rolls. Yum. Though between enjoying them, with the split salad, splitting the oysters, and the soup, we'd clearly over ordered! Repeal is a pleasant fine dining spot in the midst of the Louisville downtown action. They just need to learn how to cook steaks to temp before they rise to a truly 5 star destination.
