Yup.

Driving around Pasadena 9pm, spotted RiteAid and ice cream came to mind. Made u-turn, headed there with doubts in mind that they would not serve ice cream for whatever reason late at night. I was wrong. They even sold me a authentic Thrifty ice cream scoop "gun"! Will be back when in the area.

in my mind's eye: the COVD test nurses

Review of COVID testing here. If i would have paid close attention to info that rite aid sent to me about the corona testing here i might have approached this test site with a different mind set and point of view. my minds eye had set up a scenario of 50's style nurses and doctors dressed in super white, starchy hospital drag with scalpels and stethoscopes hanging from their necks waiting for me. waiting for me to mess up a relatively simple test. Also: as it is shown on TV in many other test venues, there were no long lines of cars stretching onto Colorado Blvd with waiting drivers honking and cussing out anyone who dared to butt in line. In reality there was almost no one here and the test was administered by the women in the drive thru prescription pick up booth who talked me through the test as in the nasal probe and the test tube of stuff in which i was to place the nose probe after i stuck it up my 2 nostrils. This probing caused me to cough and sneeze: something that no one wants any part of and so before this occured i was instructed to close my car window. smart move. This testing here is so cool and calm that i almost thought i was in the wrong place at the wrong time. But they had my name. they had my info and so once i landed at the pick up booth i could not flee. So i followed the instructions, shut my mouth and did the test: looking to the rite aider to give me the head bob meaning i was doing it right. Once i passed over the test tube with the snot enriched probe i was told that the results would be via email and it would take 2-7 days. And therein lies my issues. Honestly i do not have any symptoms but was able to schedule because of my age. i went back and forth and rescheduled this appt several times because a poz in say 5 days means i could be spreading the virus in those 5 days. BUT: i have been quarantined since March so this is not likely. But many people have not. Those know nothings (or more to the point, denyers) who feel they do not have to wear masks or follow social distancing. These are the people that will keep US as in the general public from getting back to living as we did just this last March. (yes, i am starting this again!) California has a Mask must be worn mandate but i have never witnessed any cop enforcing this. i have enforced it and gotten into major physical as well as vocal altercations. My sister tells me that i probably will not succumb to COVD but instead fall to a hot head who will shoot me. One ding bat said to me: "I'm Ok with it." (not wearing a mask) Oh yeah dude but we are NOT! Positive testing situation here at Rite Aid administered by good, caring and concerned people.

I can only give my review based on the single scoop ice cream I got here. The guy working there was super chill and super nice. I got the chocolate malted crunch which was good but next time I'll probably still stick with class cookies n cream. Anyways it's 1.99 ice cream at Rite Aid. Haha. I got a sugar cone with that. Got exactly what I expected so... yeah that's it.

Heaping scoop of fresh Circus Cookies! Yummy!

The Rite Aid in Pasadena is a nice and clean inside. Isles are very organized. The store overall is clean and organized. Staff is very friendly and nice. Pharmacists are very helpful with any questions and concerns, they are also friendly too. Now Rite Aid is know for their classic, "Thrifty Ice Cream"! Whether you are happy, sad, alone or with a group come on down and get a scoop of Thrifty Ice Cream! It's cheap ($1.99 a scoop) and it taste good. Some workers here give good heaping scoops! Yummy! So whenever you are near by come on down Rite Aid and get a flu shot! With a scoop of ice cream for the road!

Dolores is the most helpful employer ever! Tried the circus animal cookie and it was bomb!

Rite aid ice cream never fails! It has always been my all time child hood favorite and it's still as good now. Dolores is the sweetest employee ever! She's so helpful and has the best attitude! Make sure she serves your ice cream :) I tried the animal circus cookie and it was super yummy!

I went in, mostly just for contact solution, but as I always end up doing when I'm in the CVS, I definitely roamed the aisles and ended up with way more than I bargained for! For one thing, and this is mostly across all CVS locations, I love the store. Some of their things can be expensive, but I live walking to a different location, and I find that when you're a consistent shopper, there are always an abundance of coupons and opportunities to save some dollars. And the convenience is worth it to me. For example, tonight my total was about $64 or so. By the time I had added all of my coupons and signed up for their monthly program, I paid less than $40. Sami helped me out and he was so lovely and kind! He helped me reactivate my ExtraCare membership. I ran in quickly initially without my card since they take Apple Pay, but I needed the physical card to activate my membership. It was truly no issue to run out for my card but he profusely apologized for the inconvenience. Sami was just so friendly and kept up the good natured conversation during our whole interaction whilst still maintaining good efficiency. Overall I left in the least amount of time but feeling completely taken care of. I feel like this is kind of across all locations, but specifically this store did not feel super well stocked. I don't really think that's their fault though. That kind of seems to be the model across most locations. But I will say this specific CVS had a lot more buttons around the store to call the staff since a lot of items are locked up now. My usual CVS definitely doesn't have as many as it needs and it can feel frustrating trying to get help. I needed something today and found an accessible button, and a staff member came very quickly to assist me. Overall, a 10 out of 10, and next time I'm in the area I would definitely stop back here again!

This was so impressive. In this day and age it's not often I come across someone going over and beyond. And yes, I can go on and on with a list of retro candies, but trust me, there's a good candy selection ranging from the 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s, and even as early as the 1920s (hint: Boston Baked Beans). You'll also find cool old school vintage gift ideas displayed on their shelves, like authentic tin toys, old fashioned candies, gag gifts, candles, and cards. Besides every candy imaginable and nostalgic games, there's a charming ice cream counter with retro bar seats, fresh soda flavors for unique creations, and a good selection of sundaes. I was feeling adventurous on that particular afternoon so I ordered the YELLOW BRICK ROAD SUNDAE. It's made with Mint Chocolate Chip, hot fudge, whipped cream, lime syrup, and yellow LEGO bricks. If I order this again, I'm skipping the lime syrup -- it's as awkward as one of those weird jello mold recipes from the 1950s. The LEGO bricks are cute and taste like Smarties only much, much harder. My friend ordered the simple FUDGE SUNDAE and it didn't disappoint. It had a good amount of fudge drizzled on top too. And the ice cream cones put smiles on the other kiddos' faces. Probably because the ice cream itself is creamy and premium tasting. As for the historical scoop: Fair Oaks Pharmacy has gone through a few name and design changes since its establishment. Open for more than a century along Route 66, it was first called the South Pasadena Pharmacy in 1915, then the Raymond Pharmacy in the 20's and 30's. This mom & pop shop finally found its permanent name in the early 40's, which brings us to the Fair Oaks Pharmacy and Soda Fountain, still open today in 2026. In fact, this year it'll turn 111 years old, so let's all make a wish that Fair Oaks Pharmacy stays open for another century more.

No public restroom so they send me to Starbucks across the street (lining the pockets of Starbucks, which is actually very smart business and they sell far more than just sugary drinks, they're actually a bank, look it up.) 2. The hours make no sense - it's only open during regular peoples work hours (9-5 weekdays), including the pharmacy, which I wanted to switch my regular medication to, but decided not to because it's just too inconvenient. I really like the idea of supporting a classic Americana style ice cream and pharmacy combination business, but it's unfair to offload that responsibility onto customers and expect them totally inconvenience themselves. I suppose American history can perish... Fine!

Webster's Pharmacy seems to be one of these almost extinct businesses that has miraculously survived in Altadena since 1926. I was on my way to Bulgarinia Gelato when I noticed the cool retro signage of Webster's and decided to pop in to check it out. There's a large, free parking lot in the back, as well as street parking in the front. I was pleasantly suprised to find not only a fully stocked pharmacy but an absolutely adorable gift shop featuring BOOKS and other gifts. This includes a section devoted to ANTHONY BOURDAIN (a hero to many Yelpers, despite his utter disdain for Elite Yelpers, may he RIP). There are holiday candies, slippers, Christmas tree ornaments and pretty much something for everyone (there was even a section for folks that like to use "colorful metaphors", as Spock would say.) I'm not sure if the gifts are stocked year round but if you need something last minute for the holidays, Webster's can certainly help. Most items are full price but occasional discounts apply. Long live Webster's!
