I needed dry ice to keep sone Trader Joe's purchases frozen for the night. One of the nice ladies at TJ googled "dry ice near me" snd came up with Joe's Ice. I called and a really nice guy answered and confirmed they had the ice. I asked if he could hold it for me. He advised me that they don't do that but if I came right away it should be fine. I was at the Arroyo TJ's so I quickly headed their way. I was so surprised to see Joe's Ice! It's really cute snd charming! My first impression is that's it's a drive by liquor store. Looked like lots of beer was being sold. The guys worked efficiently and everyone was friendly. I got in line and hit my dry ice. Minimum purchase us 5# fir $13.50. Found this place through Yelp when I was looking for a place to get dry ice for a Halloween Party. It's a very small shop, but easy in and easy out!! I loved it!! It's a drive though ice place, yes you read correct, a drive through ice place. There's 2 lines, one on each side of your car. You pull up and the worker asks what you need. I said I needed dry ice. Minimum purchase for dry ice is 5 lbs which will cost you $7.50. I got 5 lbs of dry ice. He put it in a cardboard box because it's really cold and loaded it into my trunk. I paid the worker and he ran back with the change and we were out in less than 5 minutes!! I loved this concept and the no real waiting, There were a few cars in front of us, as it was Halloween, so I'm sure they can get busy. However, with 2 lines full, we were still able to get in and out very quickly!! It's located right at the cross section of Orange Grove. You can bet I will be coming back here for more dry ice again!! The dry ice is in blocks, so you might have to break it some more when you get home, but be careful when you do as you can get a freeze burn from the dry ice. I broke it outside in the box with a towel over the ice so it wouldn't get all over the place. They also sell regular ice, but I don't know how much that is. read more

This is my very favorite kid of business. They do one thing (well a few), they do it right, they do it all the way, they make it easy for you. Refrigerator ice never tastes right. Supermarket ice old and pricey. Then I spot a sign that yells "JOE'S ICE." I figure, with a name like that they probably have ice. Yeah they do! They come to your car, you pay, the toss it in the back seat, I never move. I've made it such a habit that now I'm a little sad on days when I don't need to stop by! Back in the 80's, junk food, was the norm for us kids. We'd get 25-35 cents from our parents, and that was enough to hold us over until dinner. Yes, even in the ghetto. Joe's made that happen for me/us for almost 20 years. Hell, at one point we lived directly across the street from them. Joe's had the good fortune of being one of the first drive-thru dairies in the city. I only know of one other drive-thru store in Pasadena. You're ass didn't even have to get out of the car. Milk, soda, candy, chips, beer, etc.... It was all here. They now have super lotto, but the place looks smaller than what I remember. Disclosure: I am a HUGE fan of drive-thrus so this open concept liquor store was bound to be a win in my book. Had a need for dry ice & they sell it in 5lb ($6.50) & 10lb ($12) blocks. Considering a search for dry ice returns mostly ice cream shops, also a win. The guy handling the drive-thru was polite & loaded the ice in the trunk for me. Pretty sure you have to actually get out of the car if you're buying liquor but you could literally pull your car up to the cashier & stand just outside the car door. Def a steady stream of liquor customers driving thru on a weekend night. Drive-thru alone makes it a win. No clue if the dry ice prices are a good deal but availability alone is a perk. I wanted to write about how much of a lifesaver Joe's Ice was to me and my family last week during the power outage here in Pasadena. Our power was completely out for 3-days last week. We were running around frantic trying to figure out how to save our food items and not throw them away since our fridge was out of commission due to no power. Well, I was driving home from work and Joe's Ice was open so I decided to stop by and get a whole bunch of Ice & Dry-Ice to keep our food preserved and cold. This place SAVED the day for my family and food, they absolutely came through for us. Everyone here was super friendly and the customer service was GREAT. I also decided to grab a few SUPER ICE COLD Brewskis and snacks to weather out the outage. They have pretty much everything you need as far as convenience is concerned and it's Drive-Thru too !!! Now this is how a business should be run! I needed some dry ice and, in the past, it's usually been difficult to find a place that supplies it within a reasonable distance. Some grocery stores carry it but I usually get weird looks when I ask around for it. But this time, I found Joe's Ice. It says "dry ice" right on their sign! This place is interesting because it's a really dinky mini mart, but it's a drive thru! They had maybe 3 or 4 guys helping people at their cars. It was very fast and friendly! I always get my ice from this old school drive-thru. All of their employees have a good attitude and help out in whatever you need. I recently bought 8 40 pound bags of ice for a party. There was always a constant stream of customers- who would have ever thought of a drive-up convenience store? This was a place where the regulars were known by name and they always had dry ice! I come here all the time. Yesterday has made me decide to never come back again. I walked up to the counter and a guy was handing change to another guy in a car. Then he walked behind the counter but kept talking with the guy in the car. For a few minutes. While I stood there. Looking at him. As he ignored me. I sighed a bit so he would realize he needed to do his job and help the next customer. Not only was I standing there, there was 3 cars waiting behind the car that the guy was talking to. I finally just said ok can you help me now please? He rolled his eyes and was like a little talking isn't hurting anyone. I said yes it is, it's making other people wait. And it's rude. He said we were talking about customer service. I was standing right there. They were gossiping. I said he should do his job better. He said he was doing his job. I said standing in front of waiting customers talking to someone isn't doing your job. He repeated that he was doing his job. Well, he's doing a bad job at his job. Stop standing around talking when you have customers waiting. Then trying to say it's ok and chill out to the customer that's been standing there cash in hand waiting for you to finish a conversation that has nothing to do with your job. That one employee has officially ruined this place for me. Guess I need to find a new after work pit stop. read more
