It was pretty good! I got the funghi pizza. Probably one of the better mushroom 'zas I've had. My biggest gripe with the business is that they seem to have switched from using pecorino cheese (looking at old menu photos) to grana padana, which is cheaper. However, the price of the pizza went up from $24 to $28. So you're essentially paying more for a cheaper pizza. Have to call them out on this. If you wanna be upscale, keep your food upscale and charge accordingly. They're filling a weird middle spot now of appearing to be and charging the prices of a high-end joint while most likely starting to take shortcuts and save money in the kitchen. My gripe with the service that night was the pizza not coming out piping hot. I think something should come out a little too hot to eat right away, and then once it cools down beneath the threshold, you start digging in. However, this was already well below the consumable temperature for me by the time I got it. The server was nice and kept asking me how everything was right after I took a big bite, so I never got to complain about it in person. I just nodded and gave a thumbs up. What am I gonna do? My friend and I shared happy hour meal on a Friday night. We had the Bucatini Amatriciana, Funghi pizza, and Insalata Mista (mixed artisan lettuces, pecorino romano, red wine vinaigrette). For drinks we had the seasonal shrub + soda, which was cherry flavored this time. Among the food we ordered, I thought the salad had the best flavor. Leafy greens were fresh and I liked how the salad was topped with winter squash chips. Bucatini tasted fresh and I really liked the texture, but the dish was too salty and made it hard for me to keep digging in unless I take a break with the salad. The pizza was just not my preferred style of pizza so I thought it was just alright. When you order during happy hour, you get a discount of $5-10 per dish, compared to the dinner menu, so it's definitely worth it to show up during happy hour. Service was very attentive and friendly. I appreciated how everyone was eager to help. The restaurant space was decorated beautifully with holiday items. With that being said, I thought the food was ok but not exceptional. We were seated and it arrived in few minutes. It was a great start to the evening. The authenticity of flavor in their dishes, to the staff being very open to educate on both the food and drink menus. Time-to-Food; 16 Minutes We got here around 4:30PM on a Saturday afternoon for their 4-6PM daily happy hour and were seated outside with no issues. For two people, we shared the Funghi pizza (8/10) and a beer and an Old Fashioned each. The Funghi pizza was very sharable, had a good balance of truffle oil and cheese and mushroom, and a nice crispy and not too thick crust. Would definitely come back for the happy hour pizza. I wouldn't get a cocktail again - it was pretty watered down and had too much ice. The beer was just poured out of a can and so $8 for an IPA is quite expensive. To be honest, we went to Rione with very low expectations. I am not the biggest fan of other Ethan Stowell restaurants I've been to, but our dinner was fantastic!! We had the Artichokes to start and they were so delicious and soft! The aioli lacked flavor but was still delicious overall. For dinner we got the Gnocchi and the Pappardelle. The gnocchi was pretty good, but the Pappardelle was the star of the show. That pasta was so good with big 'ol noodles and the perfect mushroomy flavor. We also split the Funghi pizza which was delicious. We kept the Gnocchi sauce to dip the pizza into and it made it even better! The staff were excellent and so friendly. The restaurant is nice, dark, and intimate, which we loved. We will eventually be back! read more

For happy hour you get full sized items for much cheaper (I think pasta was essentially $10 off)! This is an Ethan Stowell Restaurant located in Capitol Hill. The service was amazing when we went to this restaurant and probably what we paid for. As for the food, it was barely mid. My friend and I ordered the Bruschetta & Burrata as appetizers, which were probably the best dishes of the night. The Tonnarelli was very salty and the noodles were too al dente - there were crunchy parts that were definitely uncooked. My friend ordered the Potato Gnocchi, which he wasn't too fond of and was surprised about. He though the gnocchi would actually be potatoes in small gnocchi shaped sizes. It was disappointing to say the least. For the price, the food wasn't worth it. However, we extremely enjoyed the service we had from our server and hostess. They were super friendly and funny. I am shocked that this restaurant only has 3.8 stars! Thursday nights they have BOGO pasta off the main menu, and we went during happy hour (4 - 6 PM). I was so impressed with their summer sausage/green squash pasta dish (5/5 stars blow your mind amazing), under carbonara (4.5/5 stars) was good as well. Unfortunately, the seasonal shrub (2/5 stars) had such a strong vinegar taste that I sent it back, but I did not really enjoy the rosemary lemonade (2/5 stars, tasted too similar to Minute Made lemonade) I got, either. My girlfriend and I visited Rione XIII to celebrate a birthday. I've enjoyed other Ethan Stowell restaurants before, so I came in expecting a solid meal and good service. Unfortunately, this experience fell short on both fronts. We arrived around 6:30 PM to a visibly understaffed restaurant--just two servers and an overwhelmed bartender. It took over five minutes just to be greeted at the host stand. When we asked to sit at the bar, we were told "go ahead," with no acknowledgment of the wait. Once seated, the bartender was busy making drinks, which is understandable--but a quick greeting and a menu drop would've gone a long way. It took another few minutes to even get menus, and longer still before we could place an order. We ordered the bucatini and the fungi flatbread. The flatbread was decent. The bucatini, however, was overcooked, lacked texture, and was extremely salty--especially with what seemed like guanciale on top. I normally enjoy bucatini for its bite, but this dish had none. In hindsight, I should've sent it back, but I already felt neglected by the service and didn't want to make more of a scene. What really added to the disappointment was the mandatory 22% service charge. I have no issue with a built-in service fee--if the food and service justify it. In this case, they simply didn't. We were hoping for a memorable birthday dinner, but Rione XIII left us underwhelmed. I won't be returning, and unfortunately, I can't recommend it read more

Tl;dr this place hits. Rione is in a quieter part of cap hill with a cozy, intimate ambiance. There's some street parking, but can be a little difficult. I ended up parking in the nearby Safeway lot My friends and I ordered the burrata to share, the mushroom papardelle, bucatini, and radiatore. And tiramisu for dessert. The burrata was a solid 7/10. Very light, but on the sweeter side since it comes with figs and apricots. It was yummy, but it hit the least. Radiatore was 10/10. That pasta hit. It was perfectly cooked, I love the pasta shape because it holds so much of the bolognese sauce in the ridges, and the sauce itself was delicious. It was also just a touch spicy which added a good extra layer of flavor. Bucatini also 10/10. The pasta also hit. The pasta noodles were nice and chewy, perfectly al dente and the sauce was flavorful. Papardelle, I wasn't a huge fan but only because its main flavor is mushrooms and I'm a bit of a mushroom hater. My friend really enjoyed it though. Extra note, the past portions are large, so I'd recommend sharing, or packing leftovers for another meal. Lastly, we got tiramisu for dessert which hit extra. It comes with a little almond cookie which was so good. The tiramisu itself was super moist and the perfect balance of bitter coffee and sweet cream. The service here was also amazing , 10/10. Our server, Diego, was super attentive and helpful. The restaurant automatically adds a 22% gratuity to the bill, which is a lot, but I think it was well deserved this time. This place serves Roman style pizza, which has thin crust and rectangular shape. The food here is good, although not the *best* Italian spot I've found. We got focaccia as a starter, and this was solid! I really liked the ricotta it came with. For our mains we got the golden potato pizza and luchame pasta. The golden potato pizza was good, but anchovy overpowered it with salt since the rest of the pizza was a bit bland. The luchame was nice too, but it too was a little on the salty side. Dined here during Seattle Restaurant Week so we could get a good sampling of their offerings. The 3 of us ordered the Insalata Mista ( just tasted like a pile of lettuces with parm and lemon/evoo), burrata (wine poached pears, crackers, charcuterie meats), carbonara, bucatini, and tiramisu & warm cookie sundae. Of note: The cookie is an Oatmeal Raisin cookie and not the usual Chocolate Chip. This actually was a nice surprise for us. All in all it was a decent meal. Nothing outstanding IMO but the other 2 in my party said they would come back again. I think I would come back if the service was better. I finished my cocktail a short time after the entrees arrived, and we couldn't find our server to take my wine order until I was almost finished with my carbonara. I'm not a fan of casarecce pasta for Carbonara and it was a dry dish for me. The pasta tasted definitely tasted better with the wine. Unfortunate that I got it so late. We were 1 of 2 tables at this point so not sure why it was so slow. We will give this place another go but I prefer to try other ESR restaurants first. read more

We REALLY love Rione XIII - the food is consistently phenom and we appreciate that the pastas and pizza options change pretty regularly, so there's always something new to try. The GF pasta they use is the best hands down I've ever had. We are a mixed household of 1 GF meat eater and 1 vegetarian gluten eater and we genuinely appreciate how many options there are for both of us and how friendly and accommodating their team is with deconstructing certain apps so we can both share and enjoy. A lot of the Ethan Stowell restaurants have very similar format, an emphasis of Italian food, but this one in particular has Roman style pizzas! My friends and I went here for happy hour, booking a reservation for a Thursday 5pm just in case (more of a peace of mind, not really necessary). Happy hour is daily 4-6pm, and prices are a loooot cheaper then so I'd highly recommend doing that; however, only a subset of the menu is offered at happy hour pricing, though a lot of the offerings are their more popular dishes. We got both types of pizzas (margarita and golden potato) as well as the Tonnarelli Cacio e Pepe. Roman Style Pizzas - I love both types of pizzas as they are the square kinds with a nice crust, but I personally prefer the golden potato a bit more as it is a bit more unique. Golden potato pizza has anchovy that adds a bit of depth to the pizza, in addition to a nice garlic flavor. Margarita is decent, but I am not a fan that they use straight up mozzarella instead of the burrata kind, so the cheese is a bit tough and you end up eating the whole mozzarella in one bite. If the mozzarella were more melted or soft, it would be excellent. Tonnarelli Cacio e Pepe - I enjoy the perfectly cooked, al dente pasta. Even if it looks aesthetically simple, the dish is very rich and is a comfort food in such cold weather. I also personally got a Daiquiri which is fairly strong and fruity, well executed for the $10 price point they charged for the cocktail. Service is pretty good. The waitress was patient and quick to deliver. We used InKind for this meal which they accept (most ESR restaurants take InKind) and it was a fairly smooth process - just enter the check number and you use credits to pay for the meal and any excess and gratuities will be charged to the credit card on file. read more

My friend and I came in for their Sunday Feast, which is truly a feast! It's 3 courses, $45 per person and comes with 4 appetizers, 2 entrees, and 1 dessert. The proportions for the appetizers and entrees are HUGE. We definitely couldn't finish it all. It's a good deal if you enjoy the full menu and are ready to eat a ton. While the food was abundant, most dishes were too salty for our taste, particularly the meatballs in the pasta and the caesar salad. We were told there was no fish. Huh, seems like the manager should have told us that when she sat us, or the server when he greeted us to give us water. NOPE Even better... 20 minutes after ordering the pasta he came to tell us one of them wasnt available. Dry, no flavor, massively overcooked chicken. Interestingly the controne beans were very good in whatever light sauce they had. They were not fancy but cooked properly and have a nice flavor Hanger Steak *4 stars (-1 star for the price, and for being salty) Only dish I'd get here again. Perfectly cooked, great grilled veggies with it. Overpriced, yes, but if you must eat here this is the best thing they had -- by far... but the bar is pretty low here too. Carciofi alla Giudia (fried artichoke, aioli, pangrattato) * 0 Stars I love anything artichoke related, so was really looking forward to this... wow, did they screw up. They fried them so much they are translucent with all the oil they absorbed and are 100% yellow/brown, no green tint or anything related to what a choke looks like. They fry out most of the artichoke flavor, and the texture is like thin dead plant leaves. Someone here needs to learn to use google and find out how to make these properly! read more

Ok, so with the pizza and the pasta dishes alone, I am already in love with this place. The Calabrese pizza has what they call 'Nduja, which is a spreadable pork sausage. I am not a picky eater so I can eat anything and I am ok with fishy stuff (from slightly to strongly fishy), but my bf is on the pickier side. I loved both pasta dishes but he didn't really like the anchovy pasta so I ate most of it, which I'm perfectly fine with! I think he just needs to expand his palate! The interior is pretty cool with the industrial design and huge glass windows so you can enjoy the sun (if and when it's sunny) and people watch as you enjoy your delicious meal.
