We have been coming here since the restaurant first opened and have visited more than 30 times over the years. It was our favorite place for anniversaries and special occasions. Unfortunately, the quality of the service started to decline around last year, so we stopped coming for over six months. Yesterday, we decided to give it one more chance, but the experience was even more disappointing. The service, the host staff, and even the food quality have clearly declined. Our sparkling wine was left sitting on a shelf, and our server completely forgot to bring it to our table while taking another table's order and chatting with those guests. One person in our party already had a drink, but we had to wait nearly 20 minutes before we could all toast together. This was once one of our favorite restaurants in Hawaii, which makes this especially disappointing. Sadly, we won't be returning. read more

We had the crostinis (100% always need to get these), salmon funghi Alfredo, carbonara with portobello Fritos, cacio e Pepe, and lamb chops. Everything was delicious!!! After years of carbonara being my fav this time the salmon Alfredo was the pasta winner. Service was 1000% on point!! Nicole was very attentive but respectful of our conversation and timing. We had a large group and they gave us a private room in the back, which was nice because it was insulated and allowed us to hear each other. We ordered many dishes from both the Italian and Spanish sides of the menu. I was skeptical that a combination of food from these countries would work, but it did, and worked better than fusion food. Outstanding was the vongole appetizer, which was presented in a flavorful, buttery broth that mopped up nicely with garlic bread. Also delicious was the polpi appetizer, which was a combination of grilled octopus and crusty potatoes. We also enjoyed the paellas, both the squid ink and the seafood. The pans were shallow enough that the rice toasted nicely at the bottom. The pizzas were also good but the crust could have been crisper. The only disappointment was the patatas brava, a tapas staple. The potatoes were cut long, weren't crisped sufficiently, and the sauce tasted too spicy and weird. If they had used the same crusty potatoes as the polpi dish and used a creamier sauce, it would have been more successful. We ordered other dishes but the ones I reviewed stood out. Rigo is one of my favorite restaurants on the whole island! I have come here for date nights and girl dinners with 10 people and everything in between and they are always accommodating. Service is amazing, they always give recommendations and explain the menu, if you order wine they will constantly be topping off your glass. They never make you feel rushed either. I've tried so many of their tapas and my favorites are the crostini, garlic bread, and shrimp ajillo. Could not taste or feel any part of waygu, but it was our first time to have this "crossbreed". So we weren't sure what to expect(?). Came here twice, once with a friend, and another with my bf and his mom. Food was excellent, I appreciate that it is different from what is normally offered on the island (predominantly east asian food). I split a paella and lamb chops with my bf. Paella was very flavorful and crunchy; although the shrimp was a bit bland, the clams retained a lot of the juice flavor! Lamb chops were extremely juicy, had the perfect amount of fat, super tender, and cooked perfectly (medium as requested). We also got two desserts, the crema catalana (creme brulee) and chocolate cassata. Both were delicious, i especially loved the crunchy caramelized sugar and candied nuts bits mixed in with the custard and chocolate mousse-like bar, respectively. I ate beforehand, but my bf said he was decently satiated. He's in our freezer as we speak. Price for the portion was steep, which is a bummer because the food is delicious, but it is to be expected since this place is more on the upscale side. Maybe i'm just biased because we treated my bf's mom this time around (my wallet is flatlining). Service was good, waters were always refilled and everyone was extremely polite and accommodating. in addition, reservations can be made through their website online (perfect for my crippling anxiety and social ineptitude). A cute and fun lil tapas bar nestled on Kapahulu, right across from Safeway. Rigo has been on my list of places to try and it didn't disappoint. My personal favorites were the squid ink paella, tortilla, and tako! The paella was interesting because it was topped with a mayo(?)/aioli and glad they added lemon to squeeze on top, which help cut the richness. It started from the host, to all of the staff including back of house, saying hi, managers all waving, welcoming us as we were walked to our chairs, which was comfy and lounge like! Service was really good though considering how busy the restaurant is. We ordered the big sangria to share and it was delicious! It wasn't watered down, but just remember to tell the servers to give you less ice. We ordered a bunch of appetizers and pizza and that was pretty good! It wasn't mind blowing though since we had a really high expectations from all the reviews. We also ordered the paella and it was pretty average. I would say the appetizers were definitely the highlight of our meal, but we expected more from the paella since they're known for their Spanish dishes. Excellent Ceaser salad. The dressing is rich and creamy, with bold umami flavors. Instead of croutons, it has black sesame tuile, that provides a nice crunch. I could eat this salad alone and I would be happy. For appetizers, the pulpo was delicious. It was a tad more burnt than we liked. While the Melanzane was a nice hearty dish. Not too generous on the melba toast, so we asked for extras since they gave us 3... We were stuffed by this point but we went ahead and had their Pizza Bismark. It is shareable. Heads up for others with a shellfish allergy, they cook every pasta dish in shrimp water. Came here for my birthday dinner recently because I wanted pasta. Was informed by our server that I wouldn't be able to get any pasta dish on the menu. He said they cook their shrimp early in the day, then boil the noodles in that same water the remainder of the day. Very shocking to do something like this with one of the most common allergies in the world. I almost didn't even ask because I was getting a dish with only cheese and mushrooms. He also wouldn't ask the kitchen to boil a quick serving because "he had done so before and they told him no". Ended up with the pork chops, one of only a couple things I could order. We ordered a couple of dishes each from their Spanish and Italian offerings and each item delivered on taste. Not only was our server fast and friendly, but also his recommendations were spot on and certainly helped us narrow down from a broad selection of offerings on the menu. They have their own parking for $5 valet. We were seating in the back area with a bench seat and rather large chairs with immovable tables. This would be ideal for larger folks, but being average and slightly under it was quite uncomfortable. We felt like Alice trying to get comfortable and reach our food. Despite a couple of minor shortcomings I gave it 5 stars as the experience with the down to earth pricing makes this place a gem. read more

It's been over a year since my last review here. The food and ambience was great as always and they were quite busy. The menu is a bit different from last year and the highlights are as follows: Arrabbiata: 10/10. Not too spicy and has a great body of flavor. Very enjoyable and hard to pass up on subsequent visits. Clam Caldoso: 9/10. Great dish as always. It takes a while to prepare so don't get too full before it comes out! Easily can split with others (if you feel like sharing). King Crab: 10/10. King Crab is amazing. Comes with butter and cocktail sauce. 5.5 Oz goes in a flash. Taco de Cerdo: 7/10. Interesting take on the Taco with a radish for the shell in bite sized tapas. They have a decent flavor with many textures. Vongole: 8/10 steamed clams with veggies and a little hidden spice kick. It was refreshing with the other appetizers. Sushi Roll Pincho de Cerdo: 7/10. They were a bit difficult to eat and pretty much required single bites. They had a nice mix of flavors and textures that went pretty well together. Garlic Bread: 10/10. Comes out fresh and hot- a bit of salt and crispy. Order your own! Rigo is a great spot to eat and highly recommended you make a reservation on their site at least 3 days a head of time. I went with my girl-friends here for a get together this past weekend, and all I can say is - Wow! The restaurant feels very intimate, yet laidback and all of the staff were very attentive and welcoming. I was the only one out of my friends that hadn't been here, and they were all confident about the taste of the food, despite the menu changing. It's been awhile since I've been thoroughly impressed by all of the dishes from the appetizers to the pasta.
