First timers and it was a great evening. Husband had pork chops and we shared the American Waygu sirloin.... In other words... just sirloin. Could not taste or feel any part of waygu, but it was our first time to have this "crossbreed". So we weren't sure what to expect(?). Our first time to have French wine and it was so delicious that you then understand the differences of American wines and can only indulge in the appreciation of the existence of wine in the first place. This has to be one of my favorite meals of the year. Service and food here was amazing. Loved the Caesar salad and they added this black sesame crumble on top that balanced the dish well. The calamari here is my favorite. They don't serve it with sauce because it honestly doesn't need it at all. The pizza bismark was so good and cooked perfectly. Loved my carbonara pasta (but I could have done without the mushrooms - they're good on their own but didn't match the pasta imo). The tiramisu didn't use traditional lady fingers - it looked like chocolate cake? But it was still so good!! Came here twice, once with a friend, and another with my bf and his mom. Food was excellent, I appreciate that it is different from what is normally offered on the island (predominantly east asian food). I split a paella and lamb chops with my bf. Paella was very flavorful and crunchy; although the shrimp was a bit bland, the clams retained a lot of the juice flavor! Lamb chops were extremely juicy, had the perfect amount of fat, super tender, and cooked perfectly (medium as requested). We also got two desserts, the crema catalana (creme brulee) and chocolate cassata. Both were delicious, i especially loved the crunchy caramelized sugar and candied nuts bits mixed in with the custard and chocolate mousse-like bar, respectively. I ate beforehand, but my bf said he was decently satiated. He's in our freezer as we speak. Price for the portion was steep, which is a bummer because the food is delicious, but it is to be expected since this place is more on the upscale side. Maybe i'm just biased because we treated my bf's mom this time around (my wallet is flatlining). Service was good, waters were always refilled and everyone was extremely polite and accommodating. in addition, reservations can be made through their website online (perfect for my crippling anxiety and social ineptitude). A cute and fun lil tapas bar nestled on Kapahulu, right across from Safeway. Rigo has been on my list of places to try and it didn't disappoint. My personal favorites were the squid ink paella, tortilla, and tako! The paella was interesting because it was topped with a mayo(?)/aioli and glad they added lemon to squeeze on top, which help cut the richness. Reservation for 430pm for our anniversary dinner and this place was amazing. It started from the host, to all of the staff including back of house, saying hi, managers all waving, welcoming us as we were walked to our chairs, which was comfy and lounge like! With everything under the sun, perfect mix of pretty mock and cocktails, wine choices and special for the day which was a coconut margarita for 15 dollars. We got the Negra paella, crostini, clams with garlic bread, oysters, and the cacio e Pepe pasta dish, all of which complimented each other well, with the right amount of sweet from the crostini, papaya and honey, umami from the pasta, that beautifully melted garlic bread with our clams dish, perfect for dipping, tomatoes were lovely in each clam. We came on a Friday night and had a big group, so we had to wait quite a bit. It did take about 30-45 minutes wait for us, so I would suggest getting a reservation because it does get pretty crowded. Service was really good though considering how busy the restaurant is. We ordered the big sangria to share and it was delicious! It wasn't watered down, but just remember to tell the servers to give you less ice. We ordered a bunch of appetizers and pizza and that was pretty good! It wasn't mind blowing though since we had a really high expectations from all the reviews. We also ordered the paella and it was pretty average. I would say the appetizers were definitely the highlight of our meal, but we expected more from the paella since they're known for their Spanish dishes. We usually avoid restaurants that split their focus between different cuisines. When a place tries too much, the quality usually suffers. However, Rigo proved to be an exception to this rule. We ordered a couple of dishes each from their Spanish and Italian offerings and each item delivered on taste. Really, the whole experience really did make me feel like I was in Europe: certainly more than any restaurant I've ever been to in Hawaii. The atmosphere was fun. The portion size is European sized. The food was tasty. It reminded me of when I was in Europe. The thing is, when I was in Europe, everything was a lot cheaper. I'm almost never the person who complains about price, but gosh, when you're paying this amount of money everything has to be perfect. The portions are not very big: I was still hungry after an appetizer, entree, and dessert, and so were the other two diners. And while the food was good: don't get me wrong, it was good: it wasn't amazing. We had the verdure fritte, crostini, paella, clam caldoso, and fresh catch. All of these items tasted good. Some of the items were plated very weirdly: the clam caldoso came in a caldron that was maybe 10% full, and the paella seemed to almost be a pancake of rice. Don't get me wrong: the seafood was good, fresh, and the paella especially was well seasoned. But the drink was 16 dollars and was half ice. There are places that are just as good at half the price. This was one of our best meals while in Waikiki. We were very pleased with our experience at this wonderful Spanish Italian restaurant. Impeccable service: Every staff member greeted us and thanked us as we headed out with a smile on their face. The ambiance is lovely. Surprisingly the food prices are not outrageous. Great cocktails. Excellent Ceaser salad. The dressing is rich and creamy, with bold umami flavors. Instead of croutons, it has black sesame tuile, that provides a nice crunch. I could eat this salad alone and I would be happy. For appetizers, the pulpo was delicious. It was a tad more burnt than we liked. While the Melanzane was a nice hearty dish. Not too generous on the melba toast, so we asked for extras since they gave us 3... We were stuffed by this point but we went ahead and had their Pizza Bismark. It is shareable. It's been over a year since my last review here. The food and ambience was great as always and they were quite busy. The menu is a bit different from last year and the highlights are as follows: Arrabbiata: 10/10. Not too spicy and has a great body of flavor. Very enjoyable and hard to pass up on subsequent visits. Clam Caldoso: 9/10. Great dish as always. It takes a while to prepare so don't get too full before it comes out! Easily can split with others (if you feel like sharing). King Crab: 10/10. King Crab is amazing. Comes with butter and cocktail sauce. 5.5 Oz goes in a flash. Taco de Cerdo: 7/10. Interesting take on the Taco with a radish for the shell in bite sized tapas. They have a decent flavor with many textures. Vongole: 8/10 steamed clams with veggies and a little hidden spice kick. It was refreshing with the other appetizers. Sushi Roll Pincho de Cerdo: 7/10. They were a bit difficult to eat and pretty much required single bites. They had a nice mix of flavors and textures that went pretty well together. Garlic Bread: 10/10. Comes out fresh and hot- a bit of salt and crispy. Order your own! Rigo is a great spot to eat and highly recommended you make a reservation on their site at least 3 days a head of time. I went with my girl-friends here for a get together this past weekend, and all I can say is - Wow! The restaurant feels very intimate, yet laidback and all of the staff were very attentive and welcoming. I was the only one out of my friends that hadn't been here, and they were all confident about the taste of the food, despite the menu changing. It's been awhile since I've been thoroughly impressed by all of the dishes from the appetizers to the pasta. As a first time diner, the ambiance and decor is pretty good 4/5. The food was also good, however a few dishes were very over priced compared to the portion size of other dishes. The octopus and catch of the day were very small for the price. It was like two legs of octopus for 20 bucks and it was slightly burnt. The catch of the day was Ono and it was about a 8 oz piece with 2 scallops on some greens and sauce. For 40 bucks that's ridiculous. The seafood paella was good however but expect a 30 minute wait for it. The pizza was very good, and the pastas were pretty good as well. Dessert was good, 4/5. Good spot if you're in the mood for Spanish food, which I've never really had before. I wouldn't necessarily say this place is 'fusion' as the menu sort of separates your Spanish and Italian options. However, it is tapas style, which I really like. We came here on a friday evening with a reservation we made two weeks ago. Seated after a five minute wait. Service was really great without being too intrusive, and the restaurant itself had a cool vibe. We were seated by the kitchen, but there was also private seating in the back (including a vault!) and bar seating as well. Food was decent, value was ok. We ended up spending a little over $100 for two entrees and three tapas. Not crazy expensive, but I will say the portions were rather small. That was just enough for two of us. Seafood Pealla - (A+). This was the best dish for us. Tasty, flavorful, and the shrimp was juicy! Half Caesar Salad - (A-). It was a salad, so it's hard to give it an incredibly high rating. But it had some flavor to it, and I think it's a great tapa choice. Salmon Marinto - (B+). Tasty but not sure I would get it again. Pulpo - (B+). Tasty, but chewy. Vongole with Brussel Sprouts - (C). We have dined at Rigo many times. We always look forward to the steak dinner. My sister and I both ordered it but the server only brought one order to our table. The steak had been sliced in advance and was not even warm plus it was overcooked. Not sure why there was a mix up. We flagged down the server to correct our order. All the while, my husband was eating his dinner while we waited for a very long time for our correct order, having to ask when it would be brought to us. BEWARE OF THIS RESTAURANT! We were so disappointed! This restaurant can't accommodate shellfish allergies. Three of us have a shellfish allergy. Usually we can get around allergies by choosing pasta. However, they cook shrimp in the pasta water and since they use the same water for all pasta (they don't change it - just add more water) we couldn't have the pasta. We talked to the waitress and the manager. He would not consider taking a clean pot and boiling fresh water to cook our pasta! What's crazy is that it says that the pasta is vegan but it can't be vegan if it is cooked with the shellfish! THIS IS FALSE and MISLEADING ADVERTISING!! And, it could cause a terrible reaction in a person allergic to shellfish without knowing it! The waitress said they've been asked about this from many people. So if that's so, then they should change the way they cook or offer the pasta. The manager said it's the way they do it and the kitchen is too busy to cook it any other way. I looked around. It wasn't that busy because it was a Thursday night. It's possible they were being exclusive and probably didn't like we came in the restaurant in shorts and not dressed up. I'm not sure but it did seem the waitress and the manager was a little put off and patronizing us by our insistence of accommodating the allergy correctly. My third time here and still finding new favorites. This time I had the oysters, octopus, foie gras and sirloin, as well as the seafood pasta. The kusshi oysters and foie gras were both a first for me, and both were amazing. The octopus tentacle was a great deal at $12, but was a bit tough on the thick end (as I experience most places). Admittedly, we didn't save room for the seafood pasta but it was still great two days later as a leftover so I can only assume it was amazing fresh. I want to try one of their pizzas next! We had great service from the hostess and server and loved the decor (wine room and giant red bull). If you are in Waikiki or the surrounding area, you should make a reservation (highly recommended) and be your own judge. read more

They serve a very nice little side Caesar salad with a thin slice of ham if you order the daily lunch special. We tried two of the paellas and they were not like any paella I have had previously. Previous paellas I have eaten have had rice with a saffron sauce. The rice in these paellas seemed to have some sort of brown sauce and was just covering the bottom of the serving dish in a flat layer. The pasta dish was better. We tried some of the mocktails. Was excited to share this place with my daughter visiting from college. Husband, son and I had had a good experience with our first visit. I'm gluten sensitive and appreciated that they have gluten free items on their menu. The thing to know if you are celiac or extremely sensitive is that their pasta and gluten free pasta are boiled in the same water. The fried items are in shared fryers. We were seated promptly and the first server said she would be our server until our real server showed up for her shift. I asked her about what items I could have that were gluten free. She went to check for me in the kitchen. Then another server came by and said our previous person was busy and she could help us. I told her about the gluten sensitivity and she told me pretty confidently that I could have the fried items in the appetizer menu because they were in separate fryers. So I felt pretty happy. Then our first server came back to take our orders and said no, I can't have the fried items and basically I can have the caprese salad with sauce on the side and the tortilla and paella. Well. That was fine. I remembered that the tortilla was good the last time I had it. I ordered the king crab paella, my daughter got the seafood paella. Son ordered pasta bolognese and husband ordered a truffle pizza. The food does take a while to come out. The calamari appetizer was the highlight of the meal. The crab in my paella had black spots on it and my mouth became itchy at the end of my meal. It's been over an hour since we left and my mouth is still itchy. There's a weird after taste in my mouth also. My daughter said her paella gave her a bad aftertaste too. My son said his pasta was like a Cheesecake Factory level pasta just not as big. Then our third server showed up for her shift and said she would be our server for the rest of the evening. She refilled our iced teas asked if we wanted dessert and collected our check. It was different from the attentive service we had received on a previous visit. I wasn't full when I left. Our total was about 242. We all walked out agreeing to not return. So three out of the four of us are expelling some fragrant gases from this meal. I was most disappointed in the dirtiness of the crab. I am not allergic to crab. My mouth itching is not a normal reaction I have to seafood. So I took off one star for the inconsistency of what I could eat, minus one star for having three different servers, minus one for serving less than quality seafood. But did we eat all our food? My co-worker lost a SB bet and the winner got lunch. I chose Rigo since I never been there and it's close to his branch on Kapahulu Ave. I ordered the Clam Aglio E Olio $24. Everything about this dish was perfect. The garlic was just right, they used a really good olive oil, seasoning was on point, the pasta cooked perfectly and the flavors were delicious. It came with a salad that had kale and I actually enjoyed the kale. It was softer than expected. The bread was toasted in the wood/fire brick oven and was probably the best bread I have ever eaten at an Italian restaurant. My co-worker had the Salmon Funghi Alfredo. This place is really good and I need to go back several more times to try other dishes. Service was second to none. The restaurant is large and clean. Parking is free and abundant. I went here with my boyfriend on a Sunday and the service was both quick and friendly! When we went (around 4pm), the restaurant was pretty quiet and we were seated right away. For our appetizer, we ordered the Patatas Bravas and the Verdure Frittes. For the Patatas Bravas, I would say that this was different than the patatas bravas I'm used to eating. I'm a big fan of crispy patatas bravas, and was never really a fan of big chunks of potatoes with mine. Rigo's patatas bravas were on the chunkier/less crispy side, BUT I was extremely pleased with the serving size and the sauce. AS FOR THE VERDURE FRITTES. This was absolutely my FAVORITE food item for the night. The sauce was TO DIE FOR, and the Frittes themselves were just *chef's kiss*--definitely give this a try and start your meal off the RIGHT WAY! Prior to our meals, we had a complimentary salad that came with my boyfriend's dish, which was SO delicious (I don't even know how to explain it, I would highly recommend tasting it though) For our main courses, my boyfriend had the Squid Ink Pasta and I had a pizza (I'm honestly blanking on which one it was because it was on their special menu, but it had egg, ham, and mushroom)! Though it does stain your lips and your tongue, the Squid Ink Pasta is A MUST. The flavoring of the squid ink and the texture of the pasta was just perfect, and we couldn't get enough! My boyfriend said that we had to come back for this for sure. As for the pizza, we didn't get to finish it, but I think that it's a good dish if you're pretty hungry. In my opinion, the combination of the toppings was alright because it was a little bit too much for my stomach at the time.
