I went twice, so I tried several items and enjoyed them all. The prices are very reasonable for the portion. The staff is friendly and quick to take care of you. If you like alcoholic beverages with your meal, they certainly have options for you, as well as desserts. This is a great place for family dining. It is not large so many people pick up orders or get delivery. The staff speaks predominantly Spanish language, so it helps to have a translator or device to translate. Came in with my significant other because he lives close by to this place. Everytime we walk by the street, all we can smell is the chicken from Rico Pollo. We HAD to try it. Obviously there was a language barrier, no problem, that's never a problem as long as I point to what I want on the menu and I get it. I tried ordering the soupy chicken rice with tostones while my partner got the grilled chicken cutlets. I have no idea why, but the waitress took so long to get us the water that some OTHER waitress had to get us it. -1 right there. Then, when I tried ordering my soupy chicken rice, the waitress told me "Oh no.. Maybe you should try the chicken soup. It is available right now. If you want the chicken rice you have to wait because we have to cook it." and I told her that I was completely fine with waiting for it because that was what I wanted to eat and all she kept ushering me to do was to "order the chicken soup because we can serve it to you immediately". I was peeved at this point and told her nevermind, I do NOT want to order an entree. This is another star off. However, I had also ordered tostones. I didn't tell her I cancelled my order of tostones. 20 minutes go by, my partner and I share the grilled chicken cutlets and the tostones never came out. I had to wave down the waitress for some and she apologized and said she thought that I cancelled everything. UGH. I let her pass. Last but not least, when we paid for the check, my boyfriend used his credit card. It was about $12 in total but when he got back the receipt, he was charged $15. -2. Are. You. Joking? The least you could have told us was that if we used our credit card that you guys would charge a free. I will not be back. Sorry. I just won't. I've been living in the area for about 4 years now. There is plenty of restaurants open through our blocks, however this place manages to be súper consumer friendly - which is imperative ! And welcoming. Then the food it does not disappoint you. There are multiple of locations in the area where he customer service + food seems great and then after some time they either get comfortable and the food does not seem as good. Today I ordered a 5 dollar lunch special that included a generous helping of rice, beans, and sweet plantains. Aesthetically, the restaurant isn't very appealing. It's pretty small and always packed, it also doesn't have much natural light so it's too dark and stuffy for my taste. My waitress today was very friendly and sweet, but I noticed other tables having issues with their waitresses. I have heard that they are not particularly known for good service. Their food is amazing - sometimes. The lack of consistency is a bit overwhelming at times, even down to delivery. I placed orders for delivery and on all occasions something went wrong. I got someone else's order or they forgot part of my order (way too many times). Now, I just go straight to the restaurant and order what I want. Make sure to check your bag to make sure everything is there. I recommend paying with cash. There's a ridiculous fee for using your debit/ credit card. The lines are crazy around lunch time and dinner time, which is to be expected. If you're dining in, the wait is more bearable. The prices are amazing!
