Ooh, I typically am in agreement with most Yelp reviews, but my experience was lacking today. Service: Meh. Certainly not bad, but nothing really all that good, either. I didn't see any "warm fuzzies" toward me or any of the later customers. Coffee: I calorie-splurged on a Peanut Butter Mocha. Frankly, it was overly sweet and there was little evidence of peanut butter. Definitely not one of the better mochas I've tried. Danish: I was disappointed not to see any breakfast items on the menu, so I ordered a danish from the limited selection (at 8:30 am on a Monday) and hoped for the best. Just then, a screen flashed up a "bacon breakfast waffle" for $5, so I went with that instead. Breakfast Sandwich: Ooh, not good. First, very small, and sufficiently microwaved from freezing that one half of it was hard as a rock. Definitely not worth $5, let alone $2. Very disappointing. Environs: Sort of a mid-sized cafe with perhaps 10 small tables. I scored one near a power outlet, but I couldn't figure out which WiFi was the correct one, and all of them were password-protected. The staff were busy, so I just went with my phone hot spot. Bathrooms and the tables were clean. Hopefully, my experience is an anomaly, but I'm not going to make the effort to find out. read more

I'm only trying to drink coffee once a week at the moment as to do a bit of a detox and so my weekly coffee is obviously a big event for me. It should be pretty special. I'm not wasting my weekly coffee on a Keurig or on the weirdly thick battery acid coffee that my office has, I'll just say that. After scouring around on the internet, I decided to go with Rick's Coffee Bar. Immediately, I knew if I lived here, this would probably be a place I'd frequent more often. I loved the cozy interior, the veteran friendly vibes, and of course, the drinks. I ordered the Miel, which I've seen around different coffee shops in the area, and was not disappointed. It came with two double shots, and the perfect about of honey for the sweetness. The hard part now is trying to decide if I want Rick's to be my coffee choice this week as well or to venture elsewhere.. I don't know. Hard choices, am I right? read more

This place is hella cute & the food and drinks are so legit! I came by on the way to MSP & found a really cute, cozy space complete with fireplace. Very friendly people behind the counter. We both got some of the best chai I've ever had - so spicy! And the foam was *chef's kiss*. I got what my sister said was a common Norwegian Midwest breakfast - a thin waffle with sausage, egg & cheese, folded in half. It was really tasty! Rick's Coffee Bar is a bit of a hidden gem in this tucked away corner of South Minneapolis. It's a small space but has a really nice patio. Rick's gets bonus points in my book for its mission of caring for military veterans. Because of all that I wanted to like my drink more. But with its flight of coffee drinks it seems this is a place more geared towards a latte drinker than me a black coffee purist. My Peanuts Butter Mocha ( a menu favorite) was just far too sweet for my tastes. But for those that like a sweet drink it's well worth a try. read more

This neighborhood cafe might seem ordinary (if pleasant) at first glance, but there's more going on here beyond the obvious. This is actually a non-profit which supports the connected ETS veterans' center which provides an impressive array of services for military vets. The coffee and the ambiance are reason enough to stop in. I love a sweet coffee drink and their Blueberry Muffin Latte and Raspberry White Chocolate Latte both get high marks from me. They offer a flight of three coffee drinks for $10 that is a great deal as well. There is a selection of pastries available, but I've only been in later in the day when that selection has understandably dwindled. They have patio seating as well as comfy indoor areas to hang out. The people working there are super nice. The ETS side of the facility is where the veterans' support takes place. They accept donations of clothes and selected goods, so maybe check out what they need, and what you have, and make a nice trip out of dropping off some stuff for the vets and then treating yourself to a delicious cuppa joe, how about! read more

Loving my coffee flight and supporting a good cause. Proceeds go towards helping support the Veteran's Training Center, housed at the coffee bar, as well as the mission of ETS. What is ETS? ETS (Every Third Saturday) exists to assist veterans in finding new purpose after military service. They are all about pursuing growth and post-traumatic success. My favorite was the PB & J. It was so different and so good. Next favorite was the Golden Milk because it was subtle and not overpowering. I love snickerdoodle cookies and this drink was also very good. The coffee shop is connected to the non-profit Every Third Saturday and assists veterans with jobs, re-entry to the community, and providing goods and services. The coffee shop employs veterans coming home looking for work. The coffee is good and they have a lot of fun flavors. If you get a hot coffee, you can also get a photo imprinted in your foam. Came in at 7 am on a Wednesday morning, only ones inside! Fast and friendly service! Got the iced honey lavender latte and an iced peanut butter and jelly latte. The honey lavender had a perfect amount of flavor. The peanut butter and jelly flavor was spot on, not my favorite but drinkable. Peanut butter and jelly latte = amazing. Wasn't sure how it would go down but it is an amazing drink. They also serve coffee flights here. Three 8-ounce drinks for only $10, what a great deal. Easily half the price compared to other places. Ricks is always cozy and quiet and staffed by friendly and masterclass baristas. Plus, this coffee shop supports a bigger mission than just serving great coffee. A easy win in my book all around. read more

Their coffee is very good, they have a nice little patio, and their staff are great! They also have a small food menu with pastries and sandwiches. I haven't tried those, but the people I've been there with report they are tasty 10% off for VA employees as well. They do great things, please support them. I have a friend who I meet now and then for coffee, always at a different coffee shop. This week it was Rick's. I thought the coffee was good, the baristas were very nice and the space is beautiful. Also, they're a 501c3. I've been in a lot of coffee shops, but I believe this is my first non-profit shop, which is great. Now those are all the good things. The food/pastry options are not good. I didn't have anything because I was not tempted by one. Single. Thing. The space is gorgeous, but boy is it noisy. Probably not much can be done about that though. My #3 complaint is NO wifi. That's like unheard of in a coffee shop. It wasn't very busy when we were there. I would think adding Wifi would bring a lot of people in. But then maybe they don't want to be that busy. I will likely stop in again probably when that nice looking patio is open again. read more

Such a great coffee shop with a great mission! My partner and I came here on a weekend morning. My partner got the German chocolate latte (a house specialty) with oat milk and I got the caramel macchiato. Very tasty and not too sweet! Also they come in completely compostable cups!!
