I come to Hopkins (from Florida) for work on occasion and make it a point to stop by here for coffee (and sometimes more). Slightly eclectic throw-back vibe, very friendly service, excellent espresso beverages, and a nice assortment of creative wraps and sandwiches (alongside other food items). It's a nice place to spend an hour or two catching up on emails, though it can be busy (and a bit noisy) at certain times of the day. Parking is easy, with a dedicated lot out back and free two-hour street parking out front. One random noteworthy thing is that they have the nicest take-out coffee cups I've seen anywhere (see photo), with a sturdy design that makes it a pleasure to hold while also providing extra insulation. It's a small thing, but it's actually the first thing that comes to mind when I think of Munkabeans! read more

Located in downtown Hopkins. This cozy coffee shop is well known in the area by locals and coffee goers. Surprisingly this was my first time coming here. When I entered inside, not a whole lot customers inside but I came in the early afternoon. Baristas were helpful. Prices were reasonable on the menu and they had your standard typical coffee drinks with flavored syrups if you like to add it. I asked the barista what his favorite drink was, and he recommended a honey latte with something else added into it that I forgot what it was. I decided to give it a try and it was pretty delicious. I walked in Friday morning and was hit with the delicious smell of fresh banana bread. The atmosphere was busy and the chatter of other patrons filled in the space it was warm and welcoming and I definitely felt it. I ordered with ease since the menu was easy to read. I ordered a turkey and apple sandwich along with the drink of the month of August ( the mini donut latte ). After ordering I was worried if I would find seating inside but a table opened up before I even got my drink or sandwich. The apple and turkey sandwich was so damn delicious. The sweet and salty combo really worked well with the Swiss cheese and pumpernickel bread. I loved the mini donut latte it was not too sweet and gave me the kick I needed to start my morning off right. The staff were great you can tell they definitely have a good relationship with one another, there were people catching up with friends, studying or doing work. I also found this to be a good spot to sit back and read a good book, which I did. Although I had to turn up my headphones a bit I really had a wonderful time. Munkabeans is a fantastic local coffee shop! I've been there twice and have tried their iced latte and Charlotte's Web. Charlotte's web is a fall special with whipped cream and chocolate. The chocolate is drawn as a spiderweb. Plenty of space for working and free WiFi, both of which allowed me to knock out a few grad school essays. I haven't tried their food but I'm sure the food is just as great as the drinks. Service is friendly and I didn't have to wait too long for my drink, even though it was a bit crowded today. Cute cozy spot Downtown Hopkins, enjoyed a freshly made Breakfast Burrito. I would ask them to brown the burrito a little bit if you like it more crispy and firm to grip. I'll be doing that next time I order one. Lots of other freshly made items, baked goods, Lunch Items, plus the coffee selection. You can even purchase some coffee and others items to take home as well. They also offer catering. Next time I want to try their Quiche which they bragged about. Ducked into Munkabeans for a bit while waiting for the shops on Main Street to open. I loved the art (for sale) covering the walls when you walk in! I ordered a matcha latte and a spinach and artichoke quiche. The quiche was SO DANG GOOD! They offered 6 different hot sauces with it as well, which was great for this spicy-lover. The latte was also tasty and not overly sweet, even with the vanilla syrup I added. It was refreshing after getting overly sweetened drinks at chain coffee shops. They have a great drink menu and variety of food (pastries/muffins and sandwiches). It also looks like they have a parking lot, which I didn't see when initially driving past. As with most cute independent owned coffee shops, it is a bit pricey but the cost is worth the taste! My only suggestion is to add more comfy seating. This is a super cute shop located on Main Street Hopkins. We stopped in on a Sunday mid morning and they weren't super busy but you could tell it's a local stop. They have a decent amount seating and you will need to find street parking. The staff was friendly and I love how they have cute merch items to purchase. I ordered a sausage egg and cheese croissant. The croissant was super buttery and perfectly flakey but stayed together. Overall a standard breakfast sandwich otherwise. I also had a honey spice latte with honey and caramel. I didn't taste a ton of caramel but the honey was noticeable. It was not overly sweet and I enjoyed it. They have both fresh made sandwiches or a pretty solid selection of pastries! A couple of us got breakfast here earlier today, now we've both had diarrhea and I'm really nauseous. Someone also saw an employee kill a fruit fly with their hands directly above food being prepared. I told a friend who used to work there and she said it is not safe to eat the food here and she personally never would. I love this place for coffee! Good value for an amazing quality espresso taste. I'm not usually one for a frappe, but for some reason I love them here! I think it's because you can actually taste the fresh espresso even in a blended drink. The baked goods are kind of underwhelming...most items look like Costco bakery to me. I've heard good things about their breakfast sandwiches though! My one disclaimer is not to come here when you're in a rush for coffee. In my experience, it's not quick service like Starbucks or Caribou would be. Which is fine, just prepare for it so you're not frustrated. On a weekday it could take up to 10 minutes for them to make my coffee. Overall: a good place with many seating options. It would be fun please to hang out and study at or get work done. I've been meaning to visit here since we moved to Hopkins! Our experience was good not great - here's the breakdown: LOVE: This is the main cafe option in Hopkins besides Cream and Amber, so it's a great local place to meet! My partner got a smoothie and really liked it. They have mixed seating options, from barstools to couches to tables of all sizes. I also love that they showcase and sell local art. We didn't get food, but a friend said they make a mean Cuban. LEAVE: Sadly, I got a really bland chai - so much so that I wondered if if was just warm oat milk. This seems to be a student hang out spot which is awesome, but I probably wouldn't choose this again as a meet-up spot after school hours because it gets busy and a little loud with schoolkids. This place plays an important part in the downtown Hopkins community! Just might not be my go-to. read more

I'll start by saying thank goodness this locally owned coffee shop is open before 7AM as that is no longer the norm and I had to really search for anything besides a chain in the SW suburbs. The place is quaint but kitschy with a lot of Knick knacks including the classic leg lamp from A Christmas Story. There were some locals chatting and several open places to sit varying from traditional diner chair to more comfy lounge options. I wasn't really greeted when I entered or even when ordering and the young woman working didn't make eye contact or add anything besides the required speaking which is fine for me but not oozing of friendly service. I had an oat milk latte with almond syrup. It was somehow bland, almost watered down tasting which can only come from weak espresso? Either way I wasn't super impressed. read more

Pleasantly surprised by how good this coffee was with doing no research before coming in!! They have a larger menu than a lot of cafes I've seen lately, with fun specialty mochas and drinks that made me want to go back to try more! We got a smoothie, two lattes and a breakfast sandwich. The coffee and smoothie was all very good, the sandwich egg was a little spongy, but a good size for the money. Loved my lavender vanilla latte!! Only wish I got a large instead of medium. Since it is 2020 and we are in Pandemic times... seating is only open on the patio, but it's still really nice shaded seating area. Free parking in the back. They have innovative drink offerings thats local and organic. Since it was lunch time I opted out of coffee as I don't drink coffee after the AM or I'll have sleep problems...I ordered lunch the Pesto Provolone Grilled Cheese which was super yummy! Finally had a reason to tour Hopkins and sought out Munkabeans downtown. The place was hopping on a weekday morning with work meetings, conversations those studying from devices, typical coffee shop style. There is a wide variety of food items made fresh and the chalk boards are filled with items. I worry when I see coffee in airpots but found it freshly made so points for that. I had my usual dark roast but found it more like a medium roast but certainly acceptable I just like a more roasty toasty blend but it apparently works for them. read more

This is the perfect little eclectic cafe on Mainstreet in Hopkins. The retro mis-matched tables add to the charm of local art hanging on the walls. I love everything about it. I ordered the breakfast burrito for takeout. The staff wore gloves the entire time and no contact was made. It was so full of ham, eggs and cheese. IT WAS AWESOME! I love stopping in for a sweet treat and a cup of cocoa. This past visit I had one of the tastiest scones I have ever had. Crispy and tender at the same time with white chocolate chips and dried cranberries. Sweet, but not overly so - Loved it. My husband and I were looking for a quick bite to eat and decided to try Munkabeans. They actually have a good variety of wraps and sandwiches and breakfast items. I had a warm chicken sandwich and my husband had the chicken salad and we shared a cinnamon scone. I would give this place 4 stars but the bread on the sandwiches were so dry that it made it difficult to eat, which was really sad because the sandwich filling was really really good. PLEASE INVEST IN SOME BETTER BREAD!! They had really creative sandwiches like The Humdinger that had hummus, red pepper, chicken and artichoke and it's sooo disappointing that it's served on very dry bread. My husband also mentioned that this ruined the sandwich for him as well, even with all the dressing from the chicken salad. The cinnamon scone was fantastic and I would definitely get this again, the chunks of cinnamon were perfect with the buttery pastry. There was actually quite a bit of seating and even some large family sized tables for groups, along with some bar stools and some comfy sofas. First of all, when i ordered my coffee for here, id have expected my coffee to be in a coffee mug and not in a sloppy filled over the place to go cup. Second of all, the hot latte had like a slightest hint of coffee. It was more like drinking a steamed milk with a teeny tiny bit of coffee flavor.
