My favorite cafe in MN, hands down! Staff is friendly and very efficient. You ordee via a QR code and usually the wait for food is no more than 10min. Seating is first come, first serve. Wifi is good and some people WFH here, but it does get crowded fast on the weekends! The menu is expansive, but the crepes and drinks seem to be the main attractions. They have unique espresso and matcha options, including a secret menu and seasonal items. They do tend to be on the sweeter side. I always get the dirty matcha! My friend enjoyed the campfire mocha and creme brulee in the pasr. The crepes are pretty good - thin, but still soft as crepes should be! I also like the variety. The latte had great flavor without being overly sweet, and the croissant was fresh, flaky, and full of chocolate. The atmosphere was one of my favorite parts.Its a cool, laid back, scene and a great place to relax for a while. I'll definitely be back to try more from the menu. Had an hour between appointments and the receptionist recommended the Astoria Cafe for excellent coffee - boy was she right! The young man at the counter offered me an extensive menu of regular coffees, espresso drinks and specialty drinks, all of which could be made hot or cold. They also have a variety of milk selections. Unfortunately, they were out of skim milk today, but he offered to tweak the amount when I told him that the main reason I usually had skim milk was to enhance the coffee flavor(and their coffee really tasted good). Additionally, he offered to make my drink in my personal cup which was great since I hate to use plastic whenever I can. This location is only a half block from United Hospital and all its various buildings and there is no good coffee within that entire complex. It's definitely worth getting a breath of fresh air and taking a block and a half stroll to have a great cup of Joe! By the way, although I tried hard not to look, their pastry case looked scrumptious, filled with homemade pies by the slice and other goodies. Since they are so close to the hospital it's really nice that they also have a lovely display of fresh cut flowers. Next time I'm down here I'm going to stop in for a meal. The meh: It was a beautiful morning so I wanted to sit outside, but the smell drifting in from the nearby dumpsters was so awful. I found a table as far away as I could, but there are tables that are almost adjacent to the dumpsters...I don't know what they could do about that, but HOLY CATS did they smell awful. Cute spot! I love that this place has taken over the road on the side and made it into a cozy outdoor patio. We came for a late brunch, and got a matcha latte (delicious, lightly sweet and creamy) along with a sandwich, wrap, and kids breakfast. The food was very delicious, the potato wrap was heavy on potatoes especially when paired with breakfast potatoes, but that's my fault for ordering potatoes on the side! The when in Rome sandwich was really good, the sweet peppers added a lot of flavor. The kids breakfast was a pretty good deal, 9$ for a full plate of breakfast foods. All the servers were super nice and helpful. Happy hour every day after 5pm, which includes 20% off everything except pastries. Friendly service. Good vibes. I love the manilla mango bowl. Its so filling and delicious! I've tried many of the coffees, matchas here but they aren't that great. There are many pretty, special drinks like the rainbow latte, or smores latte, so its a great place to stop when you want something instagramable and special. Otherwise the parking isn't easy, street parking only, and its hard to plug your laptop into an outlet if you're lucky enough to find one. But I come here often for that mango smoothie bowl. My first visit to Cafe Astoria was so good that I went back later the same day for brunch! I had stopped for a coffee on a Saturday morning and was able to walk min and place an order right away. There was plenty of seating and the cafe is beautifully decorated. I ordered an iced creme brûlée latte and a strawberry cream cheese danish. I would get both of these again but would consider getting the coffee hot to have the brûlée sugar on top. When I went back for brunch that afternoon I ordered the bacon mushroom toast, with chili oil and manchego cheese. I highly recommend everything that I tried! We went to Cafe Astoria at 11 on a Sunday, so it was packed! But tables are first-come-first-serve, so we got lucky and found a spot quickly. Instead of servers, you order your food using a QR code app. The decor and architecture are charming and cozy! It was quite noisy but not impossible to hold a conversation. The food is reasonably priced. All of our dishes were good but they didn't "wow" us. I got the Frenchie croissant sandwich, which was a little heavy on the egg but too light on the mushroom/cheese/onions. We also got a pull-apart pastry, which similarly was decent but nothing particularly special. Their coffee drinks are fun and creative! We were worried they might be "style over substance," but my date, who is a coffee-loving former barista, gave it her stamp of approval. The food was not good, and the customer service was basically nonexistent. We ordered the Frenchie, and it smelled so bad when it came out. The eggs had no salt, no pepper, and no flavor at all. We also tried the shakshuka, and I don't know what they were trying to make, but it was not shakshuka. It was basically just tomato sauce with one barely cooked egg on top. The bread that came with it was two tiny slices that were gone in two bites. The hot lattes were not good either, and they came out cold. The worst part was the service. No one came to our table to check on us, no one asked how the food was, and no one even noticed when we needed anything. We had to look around and call someone over ourselves. I have been here too many times to count now! I have brought most of my friends, individually so that says a lot! This time I paid attention to their cleanliness and I would give them -1. The lady who was cleaning tables barely cleaned them. I'm not sure if she just wasn't motivated this day, but that's not okay! I was sure to use my cleaning wipes to while down our table as she partially cleaned the table next to me. I ordered the Crème Brûlée coffee which is always good and the brioche egg and bacon sandwich with potatoes. Both are great choices! It's normally pretty busy here especially on the weekends. Even coming up to the cafe it is really pleasant to look at the old St. Paul architecture and the entryway design. You walk in and order right at the bar. You can also order from a QR code. We ordered from QR but one drink wasn't on the menu so wr had to order it in person. They bring out the drinks quickly. This place is a hot commodity in the St. Paul area. Cafe Astoria has been on my list of places to try for years now. I'm not a big fan of St. Paul and dread that side of town so much but have been trying to adventure a bit more lately. Not knowing the process or setup of the cafe we entered from the back door and walked to the front. We eventually seen signage that said if you plan to dine in just grab a table and order via the QR code. Only problem is it was very packed and not much standing room as staff are trying to move around as well to deliver food/drinks. For a while we stood at the front counter debating whether to do takeout or try to wait for seats to become avail but as we waited people were coming in grabbing tables before they were even wiped down. We caught on and ended up doing the same to grab a table. We ordered an iced strawberry matcha, matcha latte, Sunday Candy (from the specials menu), bacon cheddar & egg crepe and a strawberry & cream crepe. The drinks were all good. Loved the cute artistry. The crepes were good as well. The food came out fairly quick but the drinks did take a while. They were really busy so I'll give some grace. Prices were fair. They do have covers over the door to help with drift but it was a bit cold as the doors were constantly being opened. It's pretty industrial looking inside and really cool wall art. When I looked up above our table there was a huge spiderweb. Parking in the area can be rough if there are events going on. We were able to get a metered spot about 2 blocks away. But again it's nice because they have 2 doors you can enter (one on each side of the block). Overall cute cafe, good drinks but not sure I'd go through the hassle of going here again. read more

They have a wide variety of food and drink options on their menu. the staff are very friendly and the cafe plays great music at a nice volume level where you can still chat without the music being too distracting. Astoria is a Filipino owned business, as a Filipino myself, I have to give major props to this company. I adore the menu and their coffee and tea varieties. They have it all from sweet treats, like crêpes to savory breakfast sandwiches and sides of fried potatoes. You can also have a side salad instead of potatoes for all of their entrées. I have had everything from the wise guy chicken sandwich (1000/10 recommend), banana strawberry Nutella crêpes, to trying just about every viral drink they have in the menu, there's something for everyone! My friends and I came to Cafe Astoria to do some planning for our trip, and we were in there for more than 90 minutes and we were approached by a staff member. They were nice enough to let us stay and informed us if it gets too busy, they will have to kick us out. Which it does get busy, but lucky there weren't many people and people were going in and out of the cafe. Therefore, customer services was great. I got the ube matcha teddy bear drink and that was delicious and yummy. I had a tough decision to order that or just a regular matcha, which I do not regret my decision. The breakfast sandwich I got was delicious as well with the scramble egg and sausage. The salad was tasty as well (i need to know the dressing for it). The ambiance was great and lively, people were going in and out and enjoying a little self-time. It was a great experience, but the only bad thing about this cafe is the parking.
