My fourth coffee shop in the area after four days of shuttling my granddaughter to school. I had decided to head out to Hopkins when I drove right by Fireroast and decided to check the Yelp reviews. The older reviews were a bit harsh, but the newer ones made it appear that new management has turned things around, so I parked the car and sidled in. The cute little interior reminded me of several laid-back "hippy-era" coffee shops I used to frequent on the East Coast. It took me a few minutes to figure out what I wanted from the breakfast menu, after which everything was prepared and delivered to my table promptly. I went a bit healthier, selecting the steel-cut oats with brown sugar and fresh strawberries (they were out of bananas that day), complemented by a great maple cardamom latte. Ooh, I just remembered that the ginger-molasses cookie I ordered is still in my laptop case....excuse me while I check it out.........Mmmm, that's really good also! I ended up spending a few hours on my laptop. It's a small space overall, with only one bathroom, but it's a place that I will make sure to re-visit when I'm next in the area. read more

If you are looking for a coffee shop with a great patio this is your spot! They even have a foosball table. It's also open late and they serve wine and beer so looks like a perfect stop for a summer evening. Inside the place is also quite nice a lot of different seating options and work spaces. The only thing missing in my book is a nice reading chair or two. Now to the most important part. The coffee. Their menu is large with a nice assortment of seasonal specials. I had an iced coffee which was perfect. Smooth and very drinkable. The only reason, I'm not giving 5 stars (for now but I'll be back) is I haven't tried the plain drip which for me is the key. Great study spot! I got the burrito with vegan cheese added on and it was great, not crazy expensive either. There is tons of free parking which I loved and the inside was very cute as well. This review needs an update. I love how this place flows now. Good rearranging on things and that new center table of live wood is just so much more inviting. I still love that you can sit by the windows and dogs have some treats on offer. But this morning, I had the rosemary and apricot scone. It was so good. I basically ate most of it while I waited from my hot chocolate. I'm always wary of getting a dried-out scone and this was fantastic. No idea how I haven't been here until now. The food. The drinks. The atmosphere. The staff. All 10/10. I had a caramel latte with homeade syrup (my fav) and a breakfast sandwich on a croissant. The sandwich was huge and filling. All of the food coming out of the kitchen looked so good I wanted to try one of everything. We also had their breakfast sandwiches (not pictured because i was too hungry) but the chorizo was delicious! Our cashier was very nice and helpful with our first time there! Met fellow Yelper Philip N here for a late morning brunch. It's a cute space on the inside and a nice covered patio outside. Lots of great cafe options, both food and beverage. I had to skip dairy this particular visit (sad face), but was able to enjoy the turkey brie quesadilla. The cranberry chutney sauce on it was so yummy! I loved seeing the owner walking around, greeting guests and cleaning tables. He stopped by and chatted with us for a bit and you could tell he is invested in the community. The baristas were so nice and the neighborhood coffee shop vibes were great. It's tucked away enough to feel very local and has a lot of street parking. The chai tea was made in house and was delicious. Not a lot of seating and it was packed during the afternoon on a Saturday but it was still possible to find a table. I have lived in the neighborhood for thirty years and have watched the Fireroast cycle through three owners. Currently, the patio is beautiful and the food is usually good, but two out of three times that I go my food doesn't come. I've come to expect bad service, but the worst part about it is that when I inquire into my order the employees argue with me. They are really hostile. Today, one of the people in my party, who had already eaten and was ready to leave, told an employee that I should be reimbursed. The employee said no, they were busy and that's why they didn't make my food. (They didn't look busy.) Since the same thing happened exactly 10 days ago, and happens so often, I have made the hard decision to give up on the place. It's just not worth the belligerent employees. I just can't bring myself to keep showing up for food I know will not come unless I beg for it, and be stared down by two or three employees who ALWAYS insist that it is not their fault they didn't cook my order. read more

It's been nearly a decade since I've visited Fire roast. It still brings back good memories. The service is always great. The employees are down to earth. I ordered the oat meal. It was heart and tasty. I just wished I could have had a side of milk but I still enjoyed it. I'd recommend getting the sandwich with chorizo. The outdoor seating in the patio is very spacious and serene. I'd go here again when I'm looking for a peaceful and quite place to drink wine or coffee. I had a lovely brunch here a couple days ago with friends. From the outside, Fireroast looks like a quaint, modest, neighborhood cafe, but oh how there's so much more to it than that (2 rooms of seating, a patio area for seating, etc.) The owner was working the register/ ordering station and was warm, humorous, and attentive; after taking all our orders, he served a couple of the dishes to us that we had ordered and came back to check that we liked everything we got. I ordered a decaf pour over (served beautifully on a wooden platter with a carafe and mug), and burrito. The decaf pour over was so delicious! It was fruity and very bright/ bold in flavor; this was balanced out with the natural sweetness of the honey I added in. The burrito was just as tasty!! It was fresh and you could literally see the steam coming from it when I cut it in half. It was a very texturally unique dish with the juicy yet slightly zesty touch of salsa, and they offered 2 sauces for dipping on the side. This menu item would be a great choice for my friends with veggie diets as it didn't include meat, but instead used beans for the protein (kudos to the cafe for having veggie friendly options for folks that abide by that diet!) Everything was *very* reasonably priced and everyone at the table loved what they got! The environment of the cafe is very down-to-earth. My friends and I sat at the 'community table' in the front of the cafe and ended up chatting with other customers that came to sit at the same table. It's exactly what I'be dreamed of in a neighborhood cafe that's truly welcoming. If you haven't checked this place out, it's a must! Preface: I have visited countless times. I've always felt Fireroast delivered a great value, especially for a local cafe.I've never felt strongly enough to leave a review however, until today where my wife and I were asked never to call again. This morning my wife suggested fireroast cafe for breakfast, and our 3-year old was excited too. I placed an online order while my wife was already out and about the the toddler, and saw the option for vegan cheese. We're allergic to dairy and gluten (celiac), and so are the kids at this point. Excited, I thought "sure, I'll try their vegan cheese, why not ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ " . I requested curbside pickup since the toddler was still barely clothed in pajamas, and getting a toddler in and out of a car rapidly can be a unique challenge. My wife arrived early due to their location and presumed she'd be waiting about 15 minutes for food to finish up. She called to let them know she *was* there whenever it was done, in case when it finished was the perfect time to run out. The employee who answered let her know that the food hadn't been started yet, and the owner had left the building to go get vegan cheese. She asked if he could just skip the cheese, but he said he was not allowed to start until the owner returned. The employee was also unable to give any estimate of when that would be. ***As I mentioned, we've eaten at the cafe and to-go numerous times for the last 5 years. Knowing nothing was started, that meant the wait would be a minimum of 20 minutes. Normally this is 100% acceptable wait time since this place *actually* prepares *real* food, but since we ordered to go and hadn't anticipated 20 minutes and longer waiting, the ticking timer that is a toddler waiting was already too close to the end. *** With this in mind, we requested the order be canceled and refunded (since it wasn't even started). The employee said he wasn't able to cancel the order and couldn't promise a refund. They also said the owner would call when he returned. An hour later, my wife called to follow up so we could confirm if they refunded & canceled the order. The owner answered and said she'd made him sad for showing up early and canceling the order. The owner proceeded to raise his voice, guilting her for canceling when "he went and got the cheese just for you" and how he "went through all this effort for you". Eventually my wife said that the conversation was making her uncomfortable and he then said she'd hurt his feelings! The call ended after a while of invalidating my wife's reasons for her call and feelings about the situation, with the owner eventually shouting "Fine! I never want you to come back here or call again." I thought surely there must a misunderstanding here and any business owner would be open to an adult conversation or feedback about their business or how this could have gone differently. If I were in his shoes, I would be made the food without cheese. Or offered to make it with cheese with a significant delay (still not sure why nothing would star until a finishing piece were on it but who knows, it doesn't matter that much). So I called the cafe back to inquire if a refund were going to be given or not (my wife said it didn't sound like it); and I wanted to clarify what happened from out point of view. The owner answered, asked what order I was calling about, then told me (with no chance for a word) he'd already refunded it and he told my wife never to call again. With that, he hung up. Ironically, what started as a happy discovery that one of our favorite cafes had vegan cheese suddenly turned into no breakfast, and no more cafe. I didn't make the owner offer something he didn't have, nor would anyone have been upset if they said "we're out of vegan cheese". If anything, the last two years have really made it the norm for something to be out of stock or different that expected. TO THE OWNER: I do hope you understand how you've hurt your reputation as a business in the community, on a personal and professional level. My wife and I have taken new clients to your cafe to eat and get coffee numerous times and we've enjoyed taking our very young children as well. I'm very sorry you're clearly going through something personal right now. Please be more kind to those around you. Customers, employees, family. I wish you luck getting the help you need. read more

Neighborhood staple, always has great, quick, and friendly service. The espresso is pretty good the food is also pretty good! My go to is the goat cheese pesto sandwich which comes with a side of chips or carrots. The ambiance is cozy and they serve beer and maybe wine as well. In the summer they have Sebastian joes ice cream. read more

With the pandemic still in full swing, we have been searching out places with outdoor seating, and Fireroast has a ton of it. We also really liked their breakfast foods; both their burritos and waffles were tasty. Their coffee isn't quite as tasty as some high end coffee roasters in the Cities, but it's still pretty good. I've had this place on my Yelp bucket list for some time. Like 2 years and counting. It's beautiful inside. Most of the staff was fabulous. Our java selections were just how espresso based coffee should be. My sweet sister and I rolled in an hour and some before closing. No big deal right? We were the only patrons on a Saturday night and the vibe was that they were cleaning up to close. I asked if they were about to close. Nope- not till nine (it was 7 something when we arrived). Perfect! I had a traditional decaf Macchiato and my sister had a decaf Cortado. It couldn't have been more perfect...except after we sat down. The drinks were great, the atmosphere beautiful, the sexy sweet, gentle soul barista served with a smile...then out of nowhere came a gal that started to spray all the tables around us with bleach (over half hour before closing). She then proceeded to stomp off to "clean" the bathroom that was close by. And then Vacuum under all the tables around us. She seemed angry and obviously very giddy about getting her stuff done (I don't blame her- it's Saturday night). It kind of ruined our relaxing, end of the day ambiance we had going there. If it hadn't been for the bleach bombardment and feeling the energy that we needed to leave quickly- it would have easily been a 5 Star coffee shop experience for me. I was pleasantly surprised by their large drink menu selection. And I have cheap mimosas! I only ordered drinks at this venue, but they do have food. both of the employees that I talk to or friendly! The atmosphere of the place is what I would describe as business casual. Bar style seating, Booth seating, and table seating. Modern cozy, but not modern in that oversaturation of different colors type of way. it's unfortunate that there's a step there that makes it inaccessible to some disabled people, and the space is kind of narrow to navigate for other types of disabled people. read more
