Matcha and lemon bar on the patio

Lovely staff. I like their matcha, cherry pie, lemon bars, and brownies. They also have a good selection of savory things like sandwiches. Has a lot of space inside with varying places to sit: single tables, larger tables, and armchairs. Everything is well-spaced out so it doesn't feel cramped. There is a nice shaded patio outside which, although it seems to not be solely owned by the cafe, is a nice place to sit and sip on your beverage. There are at least 5 patio tables, each with several chairs, which are spaced out broadly and surrounded by trees and grass. This place is open late (until 9:00 pm daily) which is incredibly convenient. There are a fair number of outlets so you can plug a laptop in and the quiet atmosphere makes it a good study spot. It is also literally right next to the river, so it's nice place to get something to take with you for a scenic walk. This place seriously ticks all my coffeeshop boxes and is quickly becoming my go-to spot :)

Such a cute coffee shop right by the river. I actually ordered an ice tea and it was delicious. The staff was friendly and crowd was laid back.

I've been frequenting this gem of a coffee shop since it opened almost 10 years ago. Although, it's gone through many transformations since then. The latest transformation, Loons Coffee, is certainly the best reincarnation. In fact, since I broke my foot over two months ago it has become my go-to place for MT (mental/mocha therapy). I also go to PT but that's a different story. Loons has great ambiance, with an adjoining restaurant and gift shop, and a scenic location next to the Mississippi River on Lake Street near the Minneapolis Rowing Club. There is also a walking trail on the river that, unfortunately, I can't use now. The trail meanders by a beautiful white sand beach with a view of the U of M and downtown Minneapolis. Above the river is a walking/bike trail stretching for miles that I can't use either. But, there is a convenient parking lot next to Loons with handicap parking and only 25 steps to its front door... I can hobble this far. Although Loons has only been opened a relatively short time, it has the most savy management. They are consistently brewing a great blend of Ethiopian coffee... their signature coffee (a local favorite); stocking delicious bakery items as well sandwiches, patties, fruits and salads; developing a closer relationship with the Longfellow Grill for their customers' convenience. Like all service industries since Covid, they may have had a few staffing problems. But, they are making sure their core staff are friendly and helpful. Check it out!

Really great coffee and ambiance. They offer a student discount and overall it's reasonably priced.

Walking in, there are lots of wood accents, stools, booths and PLENTY of plug ins if you want to come here and study/get work done! The service was disappointing to be honest. This place had the vibes to have such a fun crew working and instead we barely even got 2 words for the person who rang us up. The person who made our drinks also had zero interaction. Such a missed opportunity! This is why I removed a star. The coffee: This is one of my new favorite coffees I have ever had! I got an iced whipped honey latte and it was DELICIOUS! The coffee wasn't overly bitter, had good flavor and the whipped honey was definitely a unique treat! Overall, I really did enjoy my time at this coffee shop! It definitely can get busy but don't let that deter you from getting a delicious coffee from these guys! Oh and yes, they do have some snack/lunch/bakery items here to if you get hungry!!

That big dollop of whipped honey on top is unreal. The space itself is great for getting work done. Lots of natural light, big open windows, and different seating options that makes it feel really inviting. It can get pretty busy during peak times, so finding a seat can be a little tricky but they have a shared table system where you can grab a card if you're open to sitting with others. It's such a fun, community-focused touch and a great way to meet people or just make space when it's crowded. The staff is super kind and welcoming, which makes it even better. They also do a great job with their seasonal drinks and pastries.

The young man at the counter offered me an extensive menu of regular coffees, espresso drinks and specialty drinks, all of which could be made hot or cold. They also have a variety of milk selections. Unfortunately, they were out of skim milk today, but he offered to tweak the amount when I told him that the main reason I usually had skim milk was to enhance the coffee flavor(and their coffee really tasted good). Additionally, he offered to make my drink in my personal cup which was great since I hate to use plastic whenever I can. This location is only a half block from United Hospital and all its various buildings and there is no good coffee within that entire complex. It's definitely worth getting a breath of fresh air and taking a block and a half stroll to have a great cup of Joe! By the way, although I tried hard not to look, their pastry case looked scrumptious, filled with homemade pies by the slice and other goodies. Since they are so close to the hospital it's really nice that they also have a lovely display of fresh cut flowers. Next time I'm down here I'm going to stop in for a meal. If the food is as good as the coffee I think I'll become a regular.

There's no booking fee for groups smaller than 5 people, just one purchase per visitor in the cafe. I got a lemonade, very tasty. Mostly came here for the cats but they are all permanent residents who can float freely between the lounge and the private basement space so only 3 cats made an appearance during our visit, 2 napping and 1 popped in for some food. There's no guarantee you will see any cats during your visit. The space is very cozy and has plenty of books to browse while you hang out which is nice when the cats aren't there. I am not sure when the best time for maximum cat activity would be. There is also space to sit in the coffee shop bit outside the cat room which is nice, some people were studying there. Lots of little trinkets and things to browse all around. The bathrooms were super nice and had sanitary products freely available. Would come again in hopes of more cat activity! Luckily, the Catzen Café is just a few doors down, so coffee and cats seemed like the perfect place to start. The barista greeted me with a big smile and kindly explained how everything works. I also had the pleasure of meeting the owner, who was incredibly friendly and welcoming. I grabbed a latte, opened my laptop, and headed into the cat den - where the real fun began. Tim the Enchanter was the first to greet me. Definitely not a werewolf (despite the name), but extremely friendly and very curious about what I was doing on my laptop. Apparently he takes his role as office supervisor very seriously. Then there's Big Cup of Joe, the gorgeous gray-and-white Maine Coon who is absolutely magnificent and looks like he runs the place. Leroy, the laid-back orange tabby, stopped by to say hello, and Halloween Blizzard might be one of the most striking cats I've ever seen. Between great coffee, curious cats, and such a welcoming atmosphere, this place is a gem. As a brand-new neighbor, I can already tell this will become one of my favorite spots. I'll definitely be back... and next time I'm bringing my cat- and coffee-obsessed friends with me.
