Northern Coffee works is always a winner whenever I go! The staff are fast and very knowledgeable and passionate about coffee. I have tried both their coffee and their matcha and they are both spectacular. They always have fun seasonal flavors to try and they use homemade syrups which I really appreciate. This location in minneapolis also has a TON of seating but it's definitely a well loved place so it is often very full. That being said, people are always willing to share a table when it's crazy full. The wifi is great. Street parking is available within the neighborhoods. It is definitely somewhat loud with music, talking, and the sounds of coffee being made, so if you need a silent work space this probably isn't the place for you. read more

Kind of an unusual review because I was in the space, but wasn't able to have any of Northern Coffeeworks' beverages. Was there the other night for a community get together/fundraiser. Just wanted to shout out Northern Coffeeworks for opening their space to the community for a space to come together for action and solidarity. The space at NCW is perfect for bigger events, like the one last week. I am sure it is super cute as a coffee shop as well. They have really gorgeous dark green painted walls and some exposed brick! The perfect coffee shop to meet with a group or work remotely! I did not expect it to be so huge inside, but there's a spot for everyone-- a nook with couches that a mom group was meeting at, tables for solo workers, and everything in between. The vibes were very cozy inside. The baristas were really nice and the north shore latte was delicious. Was in town for a few days and ended up here everyday to get some work done. I loved this place! It was so busy every single day! Lots of good spots to work from and a comfortable, inviting environment. The coffee was top notch. I tried the cold brew one day but ended up getting the Northshore latte multiple times. The coffee is good! My favorite is the Harvest Latte - fabulous blend of fall spice. I love coming to work here but the internet is lousy. Often seeing speeds below 1MB (this morning it's 780 Kbps). Considering the amount of customers in here with laptops, we should expect some reliability with internet connection). I want to love this place and need great places to work but the bottom line is, I can't get a reliable connection in here and I'm forced to go somewhere else. VIBE This feels like the buzzing work/community hub of the neighborhood - at 9am, just about every seat was filled with a warm body and a laptop, clocked in and caffeinated, ready for a full-day's remote work. The space itself is spacious, and with lots of merch to browse. SERVICE & COFFEE Meanwhile back at the counter, after getting input from the (friendly) barista I had a fantastic Papua New Guinea pour-over that was chocolately, vibrant, fruity, and complex. Halfway thru my cup, I was inspired to get up from my stool and buy a bag of the beans to bring home with me to CA. Back in CA and halfway through said beans, I went online and ordered another bag. Had a very yummy cardamom garam masala latte...super interesting, I was into it. I also had delicious almond scone. The baristas were super nice and patient. Lots of seating, although the wifi can get slow at times and you may suddenly be stuck next to someone with a loud voice and a lot of zooms (neighbor, I don't think this is where you should teach classes from). We came for the fruit and grain pastries, and stayed for the caffeinated beverages! Northern Coffeeworks is a perfect spot to stop before or after the Mill City Farmer's Market!! For the fruit and grain pop tarts, hand pies, etc. be sure to check out their Instagram for what to expect as it changes daily/weekly!! I have never had anything I wouldn't recommend, but the bacon, cheddar, and cream cheese hand pie was absolutely incredible, and the pop tarts are divine if you have a sweet tooth!! I also enjoyed my matcha latte with my pastries! Their coffee specials are unique and tempting, too. I spend too much money at Northern Coffeeworks. I'm a sucker for the expresso drinks here, they are amazing, some of the best in town. The brew coffee seems to be hit or miss sometimes, or maybe I got fancy taste now? The vibe is great for remote work. Lots of wooden tables (not the most comfy) and open space. This means some days, if you arrive at 9am, good luck getting a table.... Or even on the weekends, you'll be fighting folks who bring over donuts from Bakers Wife. Shop has pastries from Marc Heu (whose pastries are just meh, like why does everything have to have a coat of sugar over it, including plain croissant or a savory ham/cheese croissant). Also, why is the orange juice $7 dollars? I wished they have food like the pre-pandemic days. read more

This place is so cool. Very roomy with lots of lit and dimmer areas. Eclectic furniture and places to sit, including 2 picnic tables. Spacing is perfect. Roomy bathrooms. Various items to purchase including a candle that smells like a boomer aftershave. I took off a star because the hot chocolate had an odd under taste even with sugar. It was also lukewarm. Order it very hot if you get it. It's a fairly busy place, but they are fast. Whenever I go to a Baker's Wife I'll stop here. read more

I have never found it so difficult to contact a business. I thought I may have left a jacket there, so I phoned them...or tried to. Repeated attempts over several days. No answer, and their voicemail was full. I sent an email to the address suggested by their recording, but so far, several days later, have still gotten no response. Good coffee shop option close to Gold Medal Park and Mill City ruins. Great space to hang out with people to chat or to do work. Almost every seat has a dedicated power supply and nice roomy benches. The old brick surrounding is lit with natural light and gives a soft ambiance that is great for working on a laptop but bright enough still to read a book or document. Their menu is standard for what you will find at artisan coffee shops but have a few seasonal drinks that are very unique and interesting. They also serve wine and beer for those who are not into coffee. I tried one of their iced mochas and enjoyed it. They used whole milk and high quality espresso and it showed in the smoothness and creaminess of the drink. Will definitely be back when I'm in the area and need to work remotely. read more

Northern Coffeeworks is such a sharp little shop. It was recommended to me by a coworker -- "nice breakfast food, but it takes a while." She was right! Also, the prices are higher than other little cafes but I'm sure it's because of the high-quality ingredients used in their products. My group ordered a bacon grilled cheese, chili, and the cabin breakfast, with two apple ciders. The apple cider tasted so great, like applesauce but in a warm juice with added spice. The chili did not have beans in it, see the photo to check it out. The cabin breakfast was the best deal -- two eggs, two little hearty biscuits (with the option to purchase a tiny tin of jam), sausage (chicken or pork) or bacon, and a seasonal fruit side. I loved it, and it came with a little green apple which was great for a dessert later. I'd come again, it was a beautiful space with great ambience and tasty food. read more

If you haven't been to their renovated location yet, it is a must visit. Northern Coffeeworks offers incredible drinks for coffee and non coffee lovers alike. My go to is the matcha or any of their seasonal offerings. They sure know how to bring seasonal flavors to their customers, and they don't miss. They also have some great pastry options. During the weekday, its a great place to get some work done, and during the weekends it stays consistently busy. There is lots of different seating for a number a different size groups, and the atmosphere is cozy. Make sure to ride your bike there during the summer months, as you will see lots of the biking community stopping by. read more

I really enjoyed this place! The North Shore Latte was SOOOO GOOD. I don't even usually drink coffee (more of a tea gal) but this was truly delicious. The baristas were kind, and there were little tables set up with local artists selling their work. I have been eyeing this spot since I moved in just down the road. I walk past it a lot and it seemed like a cozy place to work, so one weekend I decided pop in for a change of scenery while grading papers. It was definitely crowded when I came in on Saturday morning, but I had no trouble finding a space to settle in. I noticed that every seat/table had its own conveniently located outlet associated with it, so it was easy to set up shop for a couple of hours without worrying about my battery dying. I was a little disappointed in the food selection. They had plenty of vegetarian friendly sweet options, but I was really craving something savory with my sweet Chaider. I did really like the flavor of the Yeast Raised waffle and would definitely get it again, but it would be nice to have a vegetarian breakfast sandwich or hashbrowns without meat/eggs. It wasn't a deal breaker though, and I would definitely return! read more

Current favorite coffee place in the Cities. Had a friend visit from Southern California who was blown away by their coffee. Everything I've had has been divine! They're branding on their merch is clean and modern, tons of sitting space to work or connect with friends. A few fine coffee equipment things available for purchase. Every barista knows wtf they're doing. Impeccable! Their Miel and Smoked Sea Salt Mocha keep me coming back. Not a huge fan of the Fruit and Grain poptart handpies they sell (I think I just don't care for handpies), but Bakers Wife is right around the corner. read more

We were recommended this coffee spot by our Hilton hotel concierge and was vastly disappointed. The bacon Mac & cheese pastry was served cold - we were not given the option to heat it up. Came here for a bite to eat one Saturday morning and was completely charmed. The coffee shop is adorable with exposed brick and beautiful lattes. The line was pretty long when we walked in and it stayed steady the entire time. Very popular spot! I ordered a latte and the veggie biscuit sandwich. This was the most delicious latte I have ever had. I couldn't put my finger on why it was so good - maybe full fat milk. I kept taking small sips to savor the whole cup. The sandwich was a bit messy but the fried egg, soft cheese and tomato with aioli was so yummy. My husband got the other biscuit sandwich which tasted similar to mine but with bacon on it. Would highly recommend stopping in if you are nearby this place. read more

Unexpected to find a crowded coffee shop in a row is shops downtown Minneapolis, it was a great treat to see they had a delightful menu to go along with their aesthetics. Ordering the veggie skillet and seeing a lot of the other menu items ordered- this is a coffee shop with benefits. I kinda have a love/hate relationship with Northern Coffeeworks. Their food and drinks are delicious, but dang it's really expensive. I had the standard breakfast with eggs, bacon, potatoes and biscuits. Honestly this was not worth the money. Bacon was soggy/not crispy. Biscuit was a little small, but it was good along with the eggs and potatoes. Portions were just too small for the price. For $5 I tried some matcha drink. It was good, but again definitely not worth $5 and I would not get this again. My husband had the Smoked Turkey Sandwich and THIS is why I'm giving 4 starts. The Smoked Turkey Sandwich was really really good! In fact I think I ate half of my husbands (sorry, not sorry) and traded him a tiny biscuit. Such good sweet and savory flavors happening there. I want to go back just to get this. The space is beautiful and it's close to Mississippi bike trail. Be careful though, you can easily spend $40 for a quick breakfast and drinks for 2. Oh and they have coffee and wine if your looking for that as well. Not sure how parking is since I biked, but I assume not that great being downtown. I think Northern has potential and I'm interested in trying some other menu items to see if they are as good as the sandwich. read more
