I have been there many times now and the microaggressional racism masquerading as snarkiness needs to be put on alert. I have literally experienced walking into the place and being treated like they're doing me a favor while watching white people walk in and be treated friendly being treated with respect and even having their drinks brought out to them. Today I went there ordered a drink and they acted like they couldn't even be bothered with preparing the register to take my debit card then after ringing my debit card up they say to me do you want to use your $5 off I say yes but then of course because the charges already went through it didn't count and so I asked hey will this be credited or something and he didn't even look at me and just said oh yeah. I'm not holding my breath so a $2 drink that I was supposed to get at that price because I had apparently worked up credit at the cafe was a standard $7. You know just because somebody's got blue or purple hair behind the counter does not mean that they are an ally. Clearly I've gone there enough times to build up credit so I think I've been there enough to warrant an opinion and make a final judgment call and that call is I won't be back anytime soon. I should have stopped going there a few visits ago when I looked at the menu and asked the question hey so tell me a little bit more about this drink and their reply, it sounds exactly like what it sounds like and then when I looked up at them to let them know that if we were in any other circumstance I might have cussed them the f*** out then to cover it up with snarkiness they said to me it sounds delicious. However, my boyfriend and I have been getting into matcha lately so we've been trying out all of our old spots again! Corner Coffee is a cute space with a friendly staff! GINGER MALE EMPLOYEE WAS AWFUL and handled our food without gloves or clean hands. I don't know what was going on, but my sister and I walked in to Corner Coffee in Uptown and ordered a bagel with cream cheese and another bakery item. We were kind and easy and the man waiting on us was incredibly rude. He was a stalkier man with red hair and a beard. He was cold the entire time and when giving us our food, he literally threw the bag with the bagel in it and the bag with the bakery item on the counter not saying a word. He also touched our bakery items with his bare hands without washing them which is disgusting considering everything we've been through with Covid. Alas, we didn't say anything about it because we're not those kind of people. We truly don't understand what would warrant this kind of treatment. We'd understand a little if we had been difficult or disrespectful but that wasn't the case. Definitely never coming here again and wish I would've returned my item and demanded my money back. The food and coffee is incredibly "mid", as well. But whoever the ginger male employee is needs to be schooled on how to treat kind customers. How embarrassing. read more

I'm loving the airy, modern-rustic atmosphere in Corner Coffee. What's even better is it wasn't crowded on a weekday afternoon, so I got my choice of seating and could get some work done without getting up close n' personal with 3 other tables. That being said, it was a little loud because they have a roaster/grinder right in the sitting area where we could watch (and smell) the process. Worse things have happened. Roomie and I had the Missouri Gold loose leaf tea and the Bourbon Caramel Latte, respectively. The tea reminded us of Good Earth tea, but not as overpoweringly spicy, and we both loved the Bourbon Caramel's strong coffee flavor and subtle sweetness (no sugar rush from this one - just the way I like it). Prices seemed reasonable. I noticed a few drink prices that were a little lower than the competition's (looking at you, Spyhouse and Groundswell). The main thing I like about this place is the digs. Bare wood floors, rustic, pinteresty string lights everywhere, spacious and airy in the spring with widely spaced tables (a big plus if you're like me and easily feel crowded). The barista was really friendly and accommodating in spite of my annoying habit of scrolling through Yelp looking for drink recommendations until the moment I order. I'm an indecisive person and almost always waffle around asking the barista what he or she recommends, and this one was nice about it. He also offered to get my roomie a new tea because he accidentally spilled a bit of hers while bringing it out. Overall, I have nothing bad to say about this place. Pretty good option if you're looking for an independent coffee house to chill or get work done and enjoy some freshly ground coffee. I will be coming back. read more

Quite a upbeat and friendly place! They ground their own coffee in the corner of the main dinning area. The machine is loud but if you don't mind some background noise, it's a lovely place to get some work done! The aroma of the freshly grounded beans adds to the spunky, rustic atmosphere too ;).There's free wifi which is nice for when you have to study for finals. The individuals here are sweet. My drink spilled a little as the barista came over with it and told me that he would get me a new one. Very accommodating! I got the the Missouri Gold which smells strongly like cinnamon but has a more calming and sweet taste! The cookie on the side is a nice touch! I heart The Beat. As I write this, I'm sitting on a comfy couch in a pleasant atmosphere and sipping on a darn good latte. I'd like to come here for a show sometime as well. I asked the barista about bringing a baby here for some music and he explained that they get a huge variety of music, so it just all depends. He also mentioned that they are toying with the idea of putting "volume icons" next to the shows so you'll have an idea of how loud it is...now i think that's a great idea, especially since I'm a bit on the mellower side and wouldn't like doom-metal blaring while I'm sipping on a chai. ;) They have complimentary wifi and some nice photos on the wall that I think you can purchase. I haven't tried the food yet, but as I think this might now be part of my regular coffee shop tour, I'm sure I'll be updating this review soon! read more

One of the better mochas I've had in Minneapolis - really full bodied with just the right amount of chocolate and steamed milk without tasting more like hot chocolate than coffee. The barista was really nice and brought the coffee out to my table. The space was also really comfortable and lots of natural light and seating with both couches and table seating, along with a stage for live music. Another bonus for me is that it is within walking distance of the bus terminal and of the three coffeehouses that are, this is probably my number 2 (after Isles because their baked goods are phenom and Beat didn't have as many options but over Uncommon because of coffee quality/flavour). Update: back again a week later and got a breve with caramel. Different barista but still a fantastic drink. They must use a really great roaster. read more

I'm self-diagnosed with ADHD and my laptop sucks up battery life like a thirsty fat kid so Tea Garden has gotten way too loud and distracting and I have more fingers on one hand than Rustica has to electrical outlets. Welcome to my new favorite coffee shop. Cozy, quiet, and relaxing. Plenty of electrical outlets, the best chai latte, and who doesn't love a fake fireplace? I love the beautiful local art work on the walls but my favorite has to be the stainless steel tea kettles with drilled holes and a light bulb that's turned into a table lamp. Ahh so creative. It's seriously the most quiet coffee shop/place I've ever been to and I love it. I wanted to like The Beat. Really, I did. I live in the duplex next door, and had a cute idea in my head of becoming a regular there, prancing in for cups of fresh French Press (which is only semi-redeeming quality about this place) and being friends with the baristas. However, the baristas are snotty, the hours are irregular, and the coffee frequently tastes burned. If you're into the 16-year-old punk rawk scene, this is the place for you. The food is tasty, and the coffee is pretty good. Not the greatest coffee I've ever had, but I'm also only paying $4 for a french press which holds around 3 large cups of coffee. Soup and sandwich for ~$10 is a pretty decent deal for the area as well, especially given the fact that everything is made fresh, and with good-quality ingredients (disclaimer: as far as my taste buds and stomach could tell). The staff was very friendly and courteous when I visited - the girl working the counter was more than happy to volunteer to bring my french press to me while I worked on a client project in the corner of the room. The interior decor definitely has an indie and welcoming vibe to it. When I first walked in, I definitely get the feel that someone spent their time making the place feel something like a cozy, personal den. If you're looking for a place with a laid-back, ambient atmosphere where you can burn a few hours relaxing or working, then this might be the coffeehouse for you. The Beat is a quaint (and somewhat forgotten) coffee shop off of 28th in Uptown. For my fellow mobile warriors, there's plenty of seating and outlets, and the music doesn't make your ears bleed. It's also refreshing, since there's a non-pretentious and cozy vibe. However, several things could improve: -I think their coffee is A-OK, but it's not necessarily a main draw for me. In other words, I wouldn't go out of my way to get a cup there. -I like Trader Joe's, but I don't want to visit a coffee shop to get Trade Joe's chai. Maybe do a tastier spin using it? -It's a bit too dark inside. Even a vampire like me thinks that the inside could include another light or two. -Every time I've visited, rock music has been played. Christian coffee shop trying to pretend its just a coffee shop but its obviously a Christian coffee shop because the girl working is wearing a North Central hoodie and listening to Relient K. The good: sandwiches/food are quite good and the staff are pretty nice. Quiet place if you need to get work done w/ comfy seating. My lovely roommate and I went to check out The Beat last night. We were intimidated by the two outdoor tables full of people wearing all black, but we forged on and had a pleasant time playing a casual game of Trivial Pursuit (I love that they have a few board games lying around). I knew I had to try the chai after reports that it was better than Uncommon Grounds' chai. I didn't think it was better - just different. It was a little lighter and not as sweet as Uncommon's. I stand loyal to my Uncommon Grounds chai. Anyway, we had a nice time until the heavy rock show started in the main room.
