Being 5 minutes from our destination we decided to give it a try And boy are we glad we did! The sammiches weee absolutely outstanding. They come with a smorgasbord of toppings, so you need to peruse the list to determine if there is anything you DON'T want. We had three turkey sammiches and one ham, and everyone chose to modify their toppings slightly (note/ if you desire tomatoes, those need to be added as they oddly aren't on included in the smorgasbord ‍) I opted for everything - perhaps a bit anxious about how well all the flavours would mesh (mayo, mustard, horseradish, oil and vinegar along with various toppings). But you know something / it worked really really well. We also chose the potato salad as a side and it was also quite tasty. Lighter, northerly mayo's. While the sammiches weee being constructed we perused the offering in the attached grocery. Everything oooed fantastic and if we lived Locally, I would certainly be a regular - with an eye to trying many of their offerings beyond the sandwich counter.

On one side is a meat market with a variety of cuts of steaks, lamb, and other meats, which all looked fresh and quite nice. They also have a variety of items such as canned goods, pasta, eggs, etc. on the shelves opposite the meat counter. The entire place is quite sunny, pleasant, and cozy. On the other side is the eat-in, take-out deli sandwiches, that are made to order. The quality of the ingredients is excellent. The bread is freshly made (crispy baguette type) and you have a choice of Roast Beef, Roast Turkey, Tuna Salad, Smoked Ham, or Corned Beef. All sandwiches are $16.50 each (including tax) and come with a choice of mayonnaise, spicy stone ground mustard, red leaf lettuce, thin sliced red onion, salt, pepper, oil, vinegar, raw grated horseradish, pickled jalapeno, and roasted bell pepper. The default includes all toppings so if you don't want everything, be sure to specify what you do NOT want. Surprisingly, they do not carry any diet soda, nor do they stock any national brands (only local pop). There is a large menu on the wall, and you order at the counter and pick up the order (no table service). The food was attractively presented, and very, very good. My only gripe (besides the lack of diet pop) is that it's on the expensive side for lunch. Two sandwiches, a couple of bags of chips, and a couple of cans of pop will easily top $40, although I'd say the quality is top-notch.

I've always said that places that make Banh Mi without the head cheese & charge the same $8 prices and call it a cold cut these places need to be locked up and the key thrown away because that is not a real cold cut Banh Mi & you're getting ripped off. This place is totally worth every penny that you pay for their sandwiches. They also make vegan sandwiches. Their marinated tofu is actually really good. I really wish this place would make Boba drinks, especially something with like a coffee jelly because I'm always wanting a Vietnamese sandwich with a Boba drink. Luckily there's a couple down the street that I can go to to get this right after I pick up a sandwich from here. Minnesota is the only place that I've found that makes really good Banh Mi sandwiches. I honestly don't think any other state compares to the Vietnamese food here.

The egg rolls had a good crisp. They're filled with carrots and bean thread primarily. They are definitely an oilier egg roll, but no one eats egg rolls to be healthy! They are tasty, and I would get them again! The tofu banh mi was good! The tofu had a good curry flavor, and they were generous with their fillings, which I really appreciated! The bread itself wasn't the crispiest, but it was a humid day so I could see that making it a little less crisp! It was still overall good, and I was really happy with the amount of mayo that went on the sandwich! My friend and I each ordered the Wesley and our sandwiches were ready within minutes. Unfortunately, my order came out as the Eddie rather than the Wesley, but it sounded good so I just went with it. The staff was beyond generous and ended up making the Wesley for me anyways. The Eddie was good, not great. It comes with bacon, turkey, avocado, tomato, lettuce and chipotle mayo. The chipotle mayo was so tasty with subtle heat, and the roll was nice and soft on the inside and crisp on the outside. My only complaint was the meat - the turkey was slightly tough and the bacon was served like a cold cut which didn't allow for much texture differentiation or flavor. The avocado was ripe and creamy and the tomatoes were juicy and fresh. I wonder if cooked/crispy bacon would make a difference in flavor and texture? And then just better cuts of that turkey would have elevated the Eddie in my opinion. Keeping in mind that they just opened, I would not count Little Bird off my list, but I do think there are plenty of other good sandwich shops to check out in Minneapolis as well.

The brussels sprouts are truly amazing. I think they are my favorite brussels sprouts in the Twin Cities. So many places shove bacon into them. Not these. Rather they use a Thai fish sauce and caramelize them. They're crispy and flavorful. They're amazing. The tofu bowl was also quite tasty. A lot of food for a reasonable price. Just so much to love about this place.
