Where do I even start? I love everything about this place from decor to staff, ambiance, and most importantly, the FOOD! Came here with reservations on a Sunday night with my 3 other girlfriends for my birthday dinner. We started dinner around 5:45pm & finished around 7:30pm. We ordered everything we wanted to try instead of the chef's choice.
Food:
- Sardine chips: Normally not into sardine anything, but I must say, this dish was delicious with the sardine woven into the potato chip. It wasn't fishy or even too salty. Make sure you dip it in the horseradish creme fraiche! It was such a party in my mouth when they are all combined together. Highly suggest to order!
- Miyagi Oysters: They were fresh and weren't fishy for sure! However, the dried onions they had on top made it slightly bitter so I brushed that off before having the oyster itself :p
- Cauliflower pakora with garlic yogurt & herbs: This order was also such a delight because it was fried, but also healthy! The yogurt at the bottom was a surprise because you don't see it until you reach the bottom so make sure you dip some before taking your first bite.
- Dried porcini doughnuts with raclette: Usually not a fan of doughnuts because they are too sweet and heavy for me, but this has got to be my favorite doughnut of all time! It was warm and had a savory flavor on the outside where the seasoning is, and the inside of the doughnut was incredibly soft and enjoyable! Make sure you dip the soft dip on the side with the doughnuts for a bigger party in your mouth :p
- Burrata, butternut muhammara with cauliflower & grilled bread: Another delicious dish that you should order if you're a burrata and butternut fan! The bread is filling, but it totally goes with the burrata! Not to sweet or savory, just the perfect amount if sweet and salty! Cauliflower is cut into bits so it is very easy to shmear the burrata with the cauliflower and butternut onto your bread.
- Beef Tartare with tokyo turnip, hon shimeji & danish rye bread: my favorite part about this dish was the Danish rye bread - a lot of multigrain inside and it didn't fall apart once bitten into, but had a very healthy and delicious taste to it. I could eat that daily! The beef wasn't super flavorful, but it paired well with the tasty rye bread.
- Chicken liver mousse, milk honey, & black sesame: This was a dish we all agreed to want more of. The chicken liver wasn't gamey or anything like most pate dishes, but it was smooth and savory with a hint of sweet! Also comes with grilled bread, but it definitely goes hand in hand. I recommend ordering this dish for sure!
- California yellowtail, green juice, popped sorghum & shiso: This dish wasn't anything special to me, but it wasn't bad either. The yellowtail was fresh and not fishy, but the green juice was an interesting touch when dipping the fish in it.
- Spaghetti pork sausage, broccolini, cotija: One of my favorite dishes! The pork was in its and was delicious and flavored perfectly. There were crispy pieces inside the dish that I couldn't make out what it was, but it was very unexpected when eating noodles, which are soft. I would definitely recommend ordering this dish as well.
- BBQ duck lo mein, hoisin, scallion: My girlfriends liked this dish, but I was ok with it since I wasn't a fan of the gingery taste to the noodles. Too many bean sprouts in this dish as well that seemed to overpower the noodles, but it did have more of an Asian influence than other dishes we had that night.
- Dry aged ribeye, creamed brussel sprouts & dungeness crab butter: MUST ORDER! This dish is so good, I wish I had more! Cooked medium rare with the perfect tenderness and flavor! The dungeness grab butter was a yummy touch because it didn't overpower the original taste of the beef. Also comes with fries in amazing aioli dip!
- Buttermilk panna cotta with black seasame & mandarinquat: This was delicious! Loved the black sesame touch to the panna cotta! It was super smooth and tasty with a hint of citrus! Suggest ordering if you have room for dessert!
- Cali Creamsicle v2.0 with mandarin, vanilla ice cream & sugarcomb: For those into citrus desserts, I recommend! My girlfriend loved it and it came in the form of shaved ice, which was interesting knowing that there was another Asian influence on this dish.
- Mt. Tam: Cow's milk, creamy rind, soft, aged 3 weeks with persimmon jam & grilled bread: This dish is a lot heavier than you think when it comes to dessert. Comes with piece of grilled bread for your cheese and persimmon jam. Probably my least favorite dessert out of all the dishes we had, but if you're into cheese after your meal, I suggest ordering.
- Complimentary birthday dessert: vanilla ice cream with brownie crisp & mint chocolate drops: This came as a surprise as I didn't expect to have another dessert dish on top of the ones we ordered. They came out with a candle too!
Definitely expect me back! read more
