I've been wanting to try this place for almost forever. It more than lived up to the hype. My friend and I ordered the sardine chips, porcini doughnuts, pied a cochon, and foie gras mousse tajarin. The doughnuts were AMAZING. As was the foie gras. I usually don't care for foie gras because it's too rich, but this was perfect and light. The service is also fantastic. This is a cute little bistro. They have a reasonably priced tasting menu. Overall, their food was good but not exceptional. There were a few dishes that had some unique flavors but most were average. I was disappointed that the beef was over cooked (medium). If you like to share dishes, then you will enjoy this place. If you don't like to share then this might be an issue. For example, for one of the courses, they brought out 4 bowls of pasta where two were the same. It was meant for sharing. If there are an odd # of people in your party, they will bring out 3 different types of pasta so everyone can share. I don't mind sharing if we had additional plates and silverware but I am a little squeamish when we use our own utensils. Just a personal pet peeve. The service is good and the environment is fun. The staff is very friendly. I like this place and wouldn't mind going back but it isn't on my short list. read more

We had the chef's pick meal for two. It was a fun journey through a lot of the menu. The chef served different dishes to each of us so we got to try even more variety. Each dish hit many levels of the palate and had textures. The most memorable course was the first course because there were a variety of bites. Other favorites were the scallop entree and the braised lamb pasta. We cleaned every plate until the steak and dessert at which point we were stuffed. read more

I was able to sample pretty much everything on the menu and I did not care for one thing. It is VERY noisy in this small restaurant. The kitchen is open so you can see them cooking. The food was eh. Everything is VERY different and tries to be just that. I thought the dishes were so different they turned out to be tasteless. I would not recommend this place to anyone having a business meeting. I really wish you could give half stars on Yelp because my real review would be 4 and half stars. I was very excited to try Rich Table and got a reservation a couple of weeks ahead of my visit. We started with a bunch of appetizers to share; bread, sardine chips (based on yelp reviews), the famous porcini doughnuts, fig black garlic and farmers cheese, and the blt style salad. The bread was good but not necessary. Sardine chips were interesting, but one was enough for me. I only got the porcini doughnuts because of the reviews and that they never come off of the menu. They didn't really have a mushroom taste and were good but I wasn't blown away. The fig and cheese dish was AMAZING, I wish we ordered two servings of it. The BLT style salad was also extremely delicious. We then shared the tagliatelle pasta dish and the grilled ribeye. The ribeye was almost too tender and I didn't love the hummus that it was served with. I almost wished we got another pasta instead. We were too full for dessert but I'm looking forward to trying to the peanut butter pie next time. read more

My husband and I absolutely love everything we eat at Rich Table. Whenever we have guests in town or a special occasion to celebrate, we always think of Rich Table first before any other restaurant. We celebrated our anniversary here last year and decided to go again, rather than going to a different restaurant. Since they change their menu constantly, it's hard to say what to order, but I can honestly say that I've loved everything I've tried. We always get a little bit of everything when we go. The one constant that we always get are the porcini donuts with raclette sauce, which are the perfect bite before starting your meal. Then we get a couple appetizers, one pasta dish and two entrees to share. The other reason to love this restaurant is there amazing cocktails, which also change periodically and are always interesting concoctions. In addition, their wine list is great and the wait staff are extremely helpful in picking out a great choice based on your preferences. Finally, the staff who work there provide absolutely unbeatable service. We have never seen such polite and helpful service in a restaurant. Overall, amazing! Have loved this restaurant since we first started going there two years ago. read more

We went with the chef tasting menu (highly recommended): [Small bites] 1) Caviar Buttermilk biscuit - The biscuit was so warm and pillowy, amazing with the slight saltiness of Caviar 2) Dried Porcini Doughnuts - Light, savory doughnuts, it was so amazing with the whipped cheese 3) Sardine Chip - Thought this would be weird, but it was sardine completed the chip nicely. 4) Oysters - Fresh, with a nice tangy kick 5) Fig toast/goat cheese - I typically dislike goat cheese, but love this since the sweetness of the fig offset the potent flavors of the cheese. 6) Sharlyn melon - Salty yet refreshing 7) Brandade/Focaccia - Lots of texture and Focaccia was really creamy [Mains] 1) Burrata - Fresh heirloom tomatoes with fresh mint and burrata. 2) Grilled avocado - So amazing with the refreshing watermelon, sesame and baba ganoush, lots of interesting flavors, but paired nicely 3) Bucatini - The housemade pasta noodles was perfectly cooked to al dente, sauce was creamy yet light, the spicy breadcrumbs was a nice compliment. 4) Tajarin - Reminded me a bit of Japanese style ramen, but in a good way. 5) Ricotta Pierogis - Their twist of ratatouille/ravioli style, not bad wasn't as unique as the other courses 6) Pork Chop Al Pastor - This reminded me of the crispy asian pork you get at the asian market, but they changed it up by adding a mexican flavor with fresh melons 7) Dessert / Melon Ice - Refreshing cucumber sherbet with sesame mint, so good! I was lucky enough to have dinner with some friends at the chef's table here. We had a great experience. The service was very warm and attentive. The sommelier recommended some great pairings at carol opus price points. We got a couple bottles for the table. The warm bread with house cultured butter is freaking delicious! This was my absolute favorite thing there. The porcini donuts were stellar as well. These are savory donuts topped with a porcini dust/ seasoning. They came out fresh and hot. Rich Table has been on my "to try" list for the past couple of years. Alas, after a long wait, I can tell you with certainty that it certainly lives up to the hype! As a table of four, we ordered 4 small bites, 3 pastas, and 2 entrees. Our selection was a bit measly compared to what was being served on the tasting menu, but honestly, it was more than enough. We started off with the levain bread and butter, the porcini donuts, the sardine chips, and the anchovy toast. My favorites would have to be the porcini donuts and the sardine chips (in that order). The perfectly fried donuts were dusted in a savory (and delicious) salt that had a very strong mushroom essence. On top of that, the fraiche dipping sauce was light and airy and balanced out the saltiness from the donuts. I also liked the sardine chip, the strong but not overpowering fishiness and the oily but not to crispy chip. However, two people commented that the chip was TOO fishy for them, so it really depends on your tolerance for the strong fish flavor. I also observed that most of the appetizers were garnished with copious amounts of chive which really worked well with all the other complex flavors. Personally, I thought that the bread was good, it's something to try and filling, but I personally wouldn't order it again. The anchovy toast was also a blend of interesting flavors, but it was too bland in my opinion and I also wouldn't order it again. As for the pastas, we ordered the Tajarin pea pasta, the Softshell crab lo mein, and the rigatoni with brown butter. My favorite would have to be the rigatoni with its buttery creaminess and the perfect firm pasta texture. The tajarin pea pasta was also a good type of creamy and the freshness from the peas really showed. The lo mein was good, but not exponentially better than noodles I've ordered at Chinese restaurants. Finally, for the main entrees, we ordered the ling cod and the ribeye. HANDS DOWN NO QUESTIONS ASKED the ribeye was spectacular. Probably one of the best steaks I've ever had. This is a must order when you come to Rich Table else you'll be missing out. The ribeye overshadowed the ling cod, which presented an array of unique and tangy flavors, but honestly I can't complain. Thank you Rich Table for making my first experience magical and tasty. Date night. We are both industry people so we love to get out of our restaurants and be taken care of. Rich table knows how to do it. We showed up early for our reso to get a drink at the bar. It was packed so they sat us ahead of schedule. Great. Nice window table and immediately got bubbles. Stand outs were the sardine chips, porcini doughnuts and beef tartare. Burrata was yummy too. The wait was going to be 2.5 hours but a friend was visiting so we were like EFF IT YOLO LETS WAIT. We came at 7PM, got 3 seats at the bar around 9:30 #dedication From the menu, we ordered the: Burrata cauliflower: sweet heaven this was the perfect balance between the creamy burrata and the slight spice from the tikka marsala. The crunchiness of the rice crackers that came with it perfectly complemented the softness of the dish. MUST GET! Beef Tartare: it was delicious but not overly-special. Sea Urchin Tonnarelli: omg if you love sea urchin you would love this. Every bite was bursting with flavor, like a sea party in your mouth. Worst thing about this dish was the teeny tiny portion :( Dra Aged Ribeye: easily one of the BEST ribeye I've had in life. It was so tender and juicy and it practically melted in your mouth. I didn't get the taste the chanterelle mushroom on top much but the buttery taste just made me crave more. Overall, great service, fantastic food, annoyingly long wait but if you can get a table here, then bless you you'll have a fabulous time! read more

Just enough of that Porcini flavor and perfectly matched with a goat cheese creme. - Levain Bread: crispy crust and a good bite to the bread - Bucatini w/Octopus: Perfectly al dente bucatini (can I use al dente to describe bucatini??) with a creamy sauce. Not my absolute favorite, but very very good - Aged ribeye w/chanterelles and white miso: Just buttery enough with a fantastic savory mushroom sauce that I wanted to lick off the plate - (fancy) Chocolate cookie w/mint ice cream: An oh so refreshing mint ice cream sandwiched between crispy crumbly graham-crackery cookies and topped with a bit of mousse. It is almost impossible to get a reservation at this restaurant right now, due to their increased attention from their new status as a Michelin Star restaurant, but if you are willing to go at any time, the food is definitely worth the wait. Four years later, Rich Table gets moved to the top of my list for favorite restaurants in SF. I think Rich Table is the perfect restaurant. It's not overly hyped and not impossible to get a reservation at. 30 days in advance, and you can usually get the date and time you want. However, I do need to point out that the restaurant is small, so if you really want to eat at Rich Table, just go with one other person. You have more limited seating choices when it's a party of 4. My favorite things here are the porcini doughnuts and sardine chips! There is a reason why they make it on the menu every night despite a daily menu. :) read more

Well, I didn't take any pics cause this has got to be one of the most photographed places around. No point. We came on a Tuesday, at the unfashionably early hour of 6:00. We were rewarded with a parking place only about 1/2 block away. It was about half full, even at that time, and completely full by the time we left at around 7:30. Somehow they've managed to avoid the totally cramped and very noisy feel of so many other places small SF restaurants. Our waitress was extremely knowledgeable and professional, if a little stiff. I was all for trying the Chef's Menu, but my partner misunderstood the explanation and thought it comprised 12 courses each. Plus he was uncomfortable with letting the chef choose, since there were ingredients he was skittish about. So that was disappointing. It really bugs me that most restos won't allow the pre fixe unless the whole table gets it. As it is I got a bunch of appetizers, and he got an entree, so the service pacing was the same as if I'd had the chef's menu. Oh well. We started with drinks - the Kiwi Bird and the Forbidden Fruit. Loved them. It would be a good place to get drinks and snacks at the small, but inviting bar, or maybe one of those incredible looking burgers I so go by which are not on the table service menu. We split two starters Porcini doughnuts 3.5 stars. Before you gasp because I'm not gushing over them, like everyone else does - I love the concept. Love love love the porcini dust, and they were well prepared, but in the end they are pretty much just fancy fried dough. So good, but just not that much my kind of thing ROASTED ASPARAGUS, TOM KHA GAI, MAITAKE, CHILI JAM $16, 4 stars This was very good, and we appreciated the creativity of the combination. The little herb salad on top was delicious. Then I had: CAVIAR FRIED CHICKEN MADELEINE, TSAR NICOULAI $14, 4.5 stars: This was excellent. Loved the unique pairing of flavors and textures. Two very minor dings - It would have been more enjoyable served in a plate than a little "cup" so that I could better distribute the caviar and creme fraiche on the madeleine, and a little crunch, like maybe a scattering of fried chicken skin would have made it a 5 star SARDINE CHIP, HORSERADISH CRÈME FRAICHE $2, 2.5 stars: Not impressed, despite my love affair with sardines. Sardine was very dry. Chip could have been crisper BEEF TARTAR on sushi rice, they've changed the prep so I can't just cut and paste the description. It had uni and mushrooms $16, 4.5 stars: Could you get anymore umami in one dish! Great individual textures that melded very well. Wish I had even more. He had: Schnitzel style pork chop with a mini Caesar salad on top $28(i think), 4.5 stars. Tasted just like it sounds. It was simple and well prepared. Nice little place. We booked the corner table with two windows. Service was excellent and informative. We were wowed with the starters and thought this was a great choice of Resturant. However the mains were a let down. I had the steak which was cooked nicely but the white sauce with it just didn't work My partners pasta was very salty and we did bring that to the attention of the staff. Excellent service (we even got seated in the "secret" back booth area that is super private) throughout the meal and I really liked our server - though sadly didn't catch her name! Food was delicious and very interesting. The doughnut appetizer was great - highly recommend it. I had the soft shell crab lo main and it was superb. We had heard about this place for so long we were hoping it didn't disappoint from being over-hyped but boy, oh, boy it didn't disappoint. Pros: (1) Food - What can you say. Inventive. Flavorful. Unique. You'll try things you've never tried before. You can also have a piece of steak cooked better than a steakhouse. (2) Environment - specifically created to be a laid back atmosphere and they hit the mark! Great touches, pretty space with a comfortable buzz going through the air. (3) Bar - their entire bar program and bartenders are amazing! So unique. Cons: (1) Get a reservation as same-day is nearly impossible unless you're OK at the bar and get lucky.
