Sashimi was fresh, katsu was thick and juicy with a lightly breaded crust, eel was flavorful and soft, and the soba noodles were perfect. The restaurant is clean and beautifully laid out. I got vibes of actually being in Japan. If you have a reservation, you can get a private booth. The attractive staff were fantastic. Friendly and fast. I'm definitely not a gluten free, organic or Vegan person but I like good quality food and my girlfriend wanted to try this spot cause she is healthy and vegan. Street parking right in front. (Metered) Cute interior with tables or you can sit at the sushi bar. We chose table and started with tea. Lemon ginger and raspberry peach. The garlic edamame beans and Brussels sprouts were good. The agedashi tofu wasn't what I'm used to with ponzu sauce. It was in a heavy mushroom sauce. Cucumber salad was too tart and too fresh if that makes sense. My friend ordered a roll with pumpkin that looked like spicy tuna but wasn't haha. I had the yellowtail collar which was great. The salmon special platter wasn't that special and I could barely taste the ponzu. So...they have NO hot sauce. No Tabasco or sriracha or chili paste. They did offer me dynamite sauce for an extra charge. Dessert was a green tea cake with azuki beans and it was completely vegan. Not bad except the bottom crust which tasted like kale. I really like Shojin in downtown LA ( actually - both locations ) but Rice is just a cheap copy of Shojin . I came across the blog of the owner's wife and couldn't believe my eyes . The veggies are bought at Trader Joe's and Farmers market in Torrance - the wife cooks the soup and desserts and sauces at home ?! ( what does the Health department say about this ?) Someone else here already mentioned but Rice has a put - together - different restaurants - menue. Unfortunately , there's no originality. The fish is cut unprofessional and doesn't look fresh . I came here to meet with some friends, and it was a wonderful time here. I tried Bison for the first time here and it was actually the best thing we got out of all the things we ordered. The sauce on it was really really good! (Sorry I didn't take a picture of it.) Their spa water is awesome. It works more as a self-service place, where you pay first, get your water and then take a seat. The food is brought to you afterwards. We often interacted with Rachel, one of the staff members and she was very honest and kind. I could see the sincerity in her way of being and I truly appreciated that. Irecently dined at this authentic Japanese restaurant, and it was an excellent experience. The ambiance is warm and inviting, with a true Japanese feel in the decor and atmosphere. Amidst all the construction, the quality of Rice's service and food is excellent.
