I ordered the Taiwanese Beef Noodle soup, Hot and Sour soup, Jalapeño Chicken, and Sticky Fried Rice. Two weeks later came back to order togo again after a hike in Tahoe. We ordered the House Fried Rice, Hot and Sour Soup, Honey Walnut Shrimp, Beef and Broccoli, and of course the Jalapeño Chicken again. My 3 favorites were the sticky fried rice, honey walnut shrimp and the jalapeño chicken. SO GOOD! The lady that answered the phone and took our order was really nice. Was craving some Chinese food today. Decided to go to Rice Express because of their high reviews. Safe to say I won't be ever going here again. Out of 4 dishes I did not like a single one. For the Chicken Chow Mein Hong Kong Style I got dry stale noodles with soup on top. Very bland. The sesame chicken was manageable to eat. Very syrupy. Egg drop soup consistency was too thick and the flavor was bland. The pot stickers looked good from the outside, but they were pink on the inside. I thought everything was just mediocre. The chow mein was quite plain and didn't have a lot of veggies/meat compared to other chow mein dishes you can get from other Chinese restaurants in the Folsom/EDH area. I suppose people who prefer more simple and not as "saucy" dishes will find the dishes here acceptable/good. I don't think I will be returning as there are so many other better options in Folsom. Under new ownership, was there 2 weeks ago the food was subpar. Give it a try again today, order 3 dishes, batter on sweet and sour pork was doughy, the Ton Choy was too salty, and fish and fried tofu was way too salty. Probably the most authentic Chinese food you will find in Folsom. The best is the Beef noodle soup, pickled cabbage and pork noodle soup, and their porridge/ congee/ juk. My dad is from Hong Kong and really enjoys their juk - good flavor and right consistently. Tried this place out approx 2 weeks ago. Did not have too high of expectations especially since the name was Rice Express. Was expecting just some quick typical Chinese food but was pleasantly surprised. The food was outstanding, very nice plate presentation, and extremely friendly staff. The menu has all sorts or options at very reasonable prices. The meat on the Mongolian Beef is very tender and the Hot and Sour Soup is the best in the area. We've just moved away, and I could literally cry that we can no longer easily get food from here. I grew up in Taiwan and the food here is authentic! My toddler also loved their broccoli!! Their salmon fried rice is incredible. The only thing is I think occasionally, they have a different chef. Then the food is not bad, but not as awesome. Gonna miss their food so much! read more

Rice Express has new people and they are doing a great job. It's not that I'm picky about Chinese food, it's that I really enjoy it and this is the place to go for very good Chinese food. I'm tired of Chinese restaurants that serve the same fried chicken and just pour a different flavor sauce on it and serve it up (basically the same as McNuggets [and Panda Express] with Asian sauce). NOT AT RICE EXPRESS!!! I've had five different dishes of different types and each was cooked completely different from the other and savory dishes, sweet dishes and all the meat of good quality (not full of fat and not chewy because of over cooking or pre-prepped). Another thing that I have to say about the food is the texture is very very good! I had the general chicken today and the breading was delicate and crispy and inside the white chicken was very tender and juicy and the flavor was all the way through the meat. Every dish has its own original flavor and I really enjoy that type of diversity in Chinese food. The drinks are cold, the food is hot and the restaurant is clean (including the restrooms) and comfortable (their air conditioning works fantastic). The servers are polite and check on you regularly. We're creatures of habit so we've been basically content with the other Folsom neighborhood Chinese restaurant...Our friend Jen recommended it and said it's under new management so yesterday after an awesome bike ride and armed with hungry appetites we showed up. The restaurant is well lit and sits right on the same strip as 99 Ranch so sometimes parking could become a challenge especially on weekends..Order anything out of the menu but make sure you don't skip the Taiwanese Beef noodle soup...it's a perfect alternative to Pho and ramen...Everything else is a wonderful aesthetic surprise of different colors and flavors...This will definitely be part of our rotation! read more

We came across this mom and pop restaurant and decided to give them a try during lunch. We truly wanted to give them a raving review but sadly they fell a bit short. This restaurant is nothing fancy and is more like a hole in the wall. They used part of the main dining room as part of their supply storage. Don't get me wrong, I love hole in the wall venues as most of the places are generally excellent! After being seated, I was pleasantly surprised to hear that the chef spoke Toisan and the waitress spoke Mandarin and Cantonese which was welcoming as we are not from the area. We ordered their lunch specials which comes with your choice of, egg flower soup OR Hot and sour soup AND your choice of, an eggroll OR fried wonton. We thought it was a bit funny that the waitress didn't ask us for our selection of soup and appetizer when she took our order. Our lunch entrées arrived and we did not receive our soup or appetizers so we asked our waitress. Her response was, " most people don't want these items". This was followed by an awkward silence as we let her response sink in and waited on a possible follow up response. There was none so we asked if we can have our soup and appetizer. She said "you need to ask for those items because as I said, most people don't want it". Ok, we are not most people because the menu offered this "lunch special" that includes it so it's assumed that but yes, we would like it. She said it'll be another 10 mins as we fry the egg rolls. The lunch entrées we ordered weren't bad. They were tasty And we didn't have dry mouth afterwards. The portions are small so be prepared and you will need to ask for the extras that comes with the lunch special even though it's stated on their menu. Okay, so I have been coming here since before yelp was a 'thing.' I use to work for a bank that is no longer in the shopping center decades ago... Now that I've shown my age. I'd normally give you 5 stars BUT 1. Jennifer retired and she is what made this place 5 stars. 2. You charged us 2 bucks for extra pancakes for our moo shu pork. Kind of pricey when you factor in the price of the entire dish. The wonton soup is extremely delicious. The broth is not salty whatsoever and the wonton wrappers are the perfect delicate texture, not the thick garbage that you find at other places. We always add vegetables and they put premium veggies not cheap stuff. This is extremely important to me and will make or break a place for me. The veggie fried rice is very good. We order it without soy sauce. It's very flavorful without it. The veggies are always fresh and good quality! Sweet and sour pork is delicious! I typically do not like this in most restaurants. However, we order this without fail, every time! This time we ordered the honey walnut shrimp. It was VERY GOOD! Place is always clean.
