We came here because my sister was craving Chinese food and this is one of the most authentic in the area. Food and service were excellent and reminded us of food we grew up on. We had: -Honey walnut shrimp -Mu shoo pork -Hong Kong style crispy pork with pickled vegetable chow mein -house chow mein -broccoli with garlic We all ordered the ice tea too. It complemented the food nicely. This great family owned hidden gem located in the Ranch 99/Dollar Tree Plaza at the corner of Blue Ravine and E. Natoma is a must try for anyone looking for good Chinese food. Another notable dish to try,that we didn't order this visit, is the Taiwanese Beef Noodle Soup. Chinese food on Christmas has always been a tradition for me, so I was very excited to continue this tradition and rice express made it possible by staying open on the holiday. Although they were absolutely slammed, they were staying calm in the storm and our order was even ready a bit sooner than anticipated. The quality of the food was incredible. We had a feast of orange chicken, chow mein and sesame tofu. And fortune cookies of course! Consistently excellent and flavorful dishes. I have been a customer for several years and their service and quality has always been consistently great. After reading yesterday on one of the blogs for the area, I saw that Rice Express really got some great reviews. So today I went there for lunch and I totally agree. If not the best one of the top best in the El Dorado Hills /Folsom areas for Chinese food. We were greeted by a very friendly waitress who seated us immediately and we started out with soup, which was delicious. I probably could've had a large bowl of soup and been happy with my lunch but anyway, I had general chicken and my partner, she had broccoli chicken. We both were raving about how good it was, how fresh the food was and we could not stop eating. I usually bring home something for a late night snack but not today. I wish I could give more stars to this restaurant as it is really the bomb. Anyway, I will definitely be back and it is definitely me knew go to for Chinese food in the area. When we're leaving the waitress came out and asked did we want boxes or could she help us anymore and the owner stopped by the table to see if everything was OK. Everything was just perfect. I usually order the same thing as ordered in the photo I provide at every Chinese establishment, that way I have a good criteria to personally grade Chinese food. This place delivered flavorfully and quantity wise. The meat was crispy on the outside and soft and tender on the inside. The sauces were unique as every establishment has their own touch to the sauces, but I truly loved the flavors here. Another thing to note, I usually get what I call MSG fatigue when eating Chinese food, but I found myself eating lots of it without that fatigue. I've been ordering from here through DoorDash and it's become one of my favorites. I usually go for the beef congee because it's simple, but really well done. My new go-to Chinese restaurant! I've only had takeout from this place, but it has never disappointed even when they got my order wrong once; everything on the plate was still so tasty. My favorite dishes are the Sweet & Sour Pork, BBQ Pork Fried Rice, and the Bok Choy. The chicken is crispy and everything has such an amazing flavor. I order house special fried rice with salted fish add on, for the first time they made it extremely salty that i'm actually dying while eating, I drank so much water that make me full not because of the rice. The rice itself is extremely salty already and look dark brown, like they add too much seasoning, and salted fish on top which made it to the max level. So I call them and told them what's going on, and they tell me to come back and remake me another one which is nice, and the color of the rice this time is a lot lighter, less brown color looking. 5 stars for customers service here. So I read some reviews of this place on next door, and my sister, mom and I went for lunch. The restaurant is fairly modest but very clean and tidy. We all ordered lunch specials. My mom had the walnut shrimp, I had the jalapeño chicken and my sister had the Thai basil beef. The Thai basil beef was just excellent, delicious and spicy. My dish was not as spicy and sweeter, but still very good. The chicken was very lightly coated in cornstarch, no heavy breading like so many local places do. My mom loved her shrimp. The portions were large - we all had leftovers, and the hot and sour soup and egg rolls that came with the dishes were great. The owner made a point to come to our table and introducing himself. A great experience all in all, I will definitely be back. This little place is arguably the best Chinese food I've had in this area, and I am quite picky (hubby and I lived in Asia for 14 years). Do not know what the hold up is truly, this place is never busy when I go in there to pick up my food. My family, friends and I continue to travel from Auburn to dine here. Though located in a strip mall near Ranch 99 market in Folsom don't be put off by the unpretentious, simple dining space. During our visit today our party of four ordered Hot & Sour soup - one of the best I have ever had, Honey- glazed walnut shrimp, expertly prepared crispy shrimp and crunchy walnuts, very lightly sauced, combination Moo Shiu with chicken, pork and shrimp, served with 6 of the thinnest pancakes I have ever seen, combination fried rice, and my personal favorite Spicy Basil sole, tender pillows of sole encased in a light, crunchy coating fried and lightly dressed with a delicious sauce. I was in Folsom, so I decided to stop in for a bowl of congee. Not nearly as many restaurants make it as used to. The restaurant was clean and bright, and the gentleman who helped me was very polite. They have a large menu, including lunch specials, I decided to go with the fish congee. When I asked him what type of fish, he said "cod." he asked me if I wanted ginger in it, and I said yes. It came in a big bowl, there was a good amount of fish in it, and the congee itself was, rich, creamy, and very tasty. The ginger gave it a nice little "kick". The price was reasonable. We have been to eat at Rice Express twice in person and have gotten takeout from them once. It is a very clean restaurant and conveniently next to 99 Ranch, so every time we do a frozen dumpling or noodle restock, we stop by Rice Express for lunch. Both times, my husband and I ordered their noodle soups. It is hard to find a good Chinese restaurant in the Folsom area that serves other dishes besides the standard Chinese fare/combo plates, and we were very pleased that they served more traditional noodle soups and dishes. Our soups came out piping hot and the flavors of the broths were on point, especially for the beef noodle soups. The meats were very well braised, and the noodle texture was just the way I enjoy them. The first time we ordered thin rice noodle, and the second time we ordered the more traditional thick noodle. Both types of noodles were excellent and not overcooked. Service was fast and the owners were very talkative and checked up on us often. They speak both Cantonese and Mandarin, so huge plus if you can speak both. I can speak both, but my Cantonese is better than my Mandarin (I'll definitely need to practice more). Our waters were refilled often, and they also offer tea in their menu (which we will need to order next time). They also serve congee, which I'd love to try, as well as a few clay pot dishes (again not common for this side of Sac). If you would prefer to stick with the more common fare, they have your standard chow mein, fried rice, various meat/veggie entrees, family dinners, etc. that you can order. The pricing is to be expected for the Folsom area and honestly affordable. My takeout order was for their Singapore noodles and those were absolutely delicious. They also held up on the drive home and reheated well. We would love to be back to try their other dishes soon! read more

We went for lunch on Saturday and were immediately seated & served. - salted fish & chicken fried rice: well seasoned fried rice with lots of chicken pieces but I wish that it had more salted fish pieces - pickled cabbage & shredded pork rice noodle: noodle was perfectly cooked (soft yet still has chew to it). The soup was good and not too salty - braised eggplant, salty fish & tofu in clay pot: this dish was very salty. Good thing that we had it with steamed rice. The eggplant was a bit overcooked as it was too mushy for me but the tofu was nice and firm. - Taiwanese beef noodle soup: good hearty simple soup.
