Only one table occupied on a Friday at 4PM so we hit the jackpot on timing. We were seated immediately and offered a beverage. We chose a hot tea because it was a little chilly inside. The tea was amazing and was great to enjoy while perusing the menu. It's been awhile since we reviewed our go to Chinese restaurant so we set out to try some new dishes as well as old favorites for a fresh rating: Hot Tea - 10 - Lemon Black Tea from a special partner in China. Wonton Soup - 8 - Good flavor in a clear broth. Wonton tastes good but could use more flavor. A solid version of Wonton soup without the frills. Chicken Fried Rice - 8 - Needs a touch of soy sauce amongst other flavors Chicken Chow Mein - 9 - Almost perfect version of the dish. No flavor needed but always room for some pizzazz. Sweet and Sour Pork - 8 - Oerfectly sweetened sauce but the chicken could use a little more crisp and it could use more charred onions, bell peppers and carrots. Honey Walnut Prawns - 9 - Perfectly crisped prawns and toasted candied walnuts (and I don't like walnuts) but slightly over-sweetened sauce. Almost perfect!!! Chicken and Mixed Vegetable Stir Fry Medium Spicy - 7 - Perfectly cooked vegetables and tender chicken but the sauce amd chicken were on the bland side. Great service throughout the dinner but they do tend to stay in the back of the restaurant servicing DoorDash orders so grab their attention when they walk past! The prices were very reasonable for the quality of the food I honestly don't think they raised prices through COVID / inflation. I'm bumping them up to 4 stars...keep cookin! read more

Lotus 8 - Kung Pao Chicken Combo (Dinner) - Asian Fusion Near Me - Folsom, California

A friend recommended this place as the best Chinese food in the area. Inside, the old school Chinese red decor lended a touch of authenticity. For lunch, we had the Hong Kong Style Chow Mein and the Salted Fish and Chicken Rice. Both were good portions and delicious. The chow mein had a bit too much gravy so there wasn't much of the signature dry crispy noodles. The best part of the meal was the fragrant loose leaf tea. We let our server (co-owner?) choose the tea for us. It's a unique, special blend that enhanced our meal. Our server was very personable and friendly. If I lived closer, this place would definitely be on our regular takeout rotation. read more

Wonderful, fresh and flavorful! Loved the salt and garlic prawns, crunchy but not too much batter

Got this as a to go order. The flavor of the sesame beef was actually good. However, there was not a single piece of meat in the dish. It was literally just fried bread and the sauce. It was actually inedible because of the texture. I had to dump it out. The orange chicken had meat, though it tasted very dry, but the flavor was awful. I'm very disappointed and it's not how I wanted to spend $50 on to go items. read more

as a guest, pre arranged 8 course CNY celebration menu, owners did not disappoint, excellent service, array of Cantonese Hakka dishes to name a few (fresh vegetables, crispy chicken, in house roast duck, lettuce wraps, tofu blend, s/s pork spare ribs and special imported lemon tea ). definitely not typical orders of orange chicken, walnut prawns, general whomever, fried rice etc. read more

What a surprise gem along the way between South Lake Tahoe and Bay Area, along US-50. Husband and wife own the place and the husband is the chef. If you are into authentic Cantonese cuisine, this place really has that "wok energy" that nowadays harder and harder to fine. They make their own XO sauce so make sure to try XO sauce dishes. And they do great vegetarian dishes as well, always a challenge. Highly recommend. read more

Second time to this place, Business owner is from canton area in China, he shared with me that he starts the chef career when he was 19 yrs old. He definitely knows cooking! The food is pretty good, we order 4 dishes from secret menu, which is not on the regular ones, the reason is pretty simple, there are some dishes not really known to the local but very popular to me as a Chinese, if you are curious, ask the boss, lol. The picture is the lotus rice dumpling, this was what I got for dragon boat festival, super good! read more

Food is amazing best I've had in years each time i order hands down 10 stars if I could

I was craving for the salted fish fried rice and found this restaurant. I placed an order for take out and got it in around 20 mins as the lady said when taking my order. - salted fish & chicken fried rice: the rice was fluffy & good. It had lots of salted fish pieces but need a wee bit of seasoning. The portion was good - salt & pepper fried tofu: the tofu pieces were good & crispy but nothing special. The food was good and I'll try different items next time read more

This was my first and last time buying anything from this place I ordered chicken fried rice and I should of knew better when I picked it up it didn't have a smell and usually Chinese food wreaks through the bag, secondly when I got home to eat it the rice was hard barely any chicken and it just taste like plain white rice. And for 15 dollars a waste of money and time never going back. read more

I have no words to say other than this was a complete waste of time and I hope you can be much more honest moving forward. Said order would take 30 minutes. then 20. 45 minutes later they said maybe 10 minutes. So I would have waited for almost an hour before you even start working on my order. just be honest read more

I always see this restaurant and have been wanting to try them. My husband wanted Chinese food for dinner and I suggested this restaurant. We ordered the Sweet & Sour Pork, my husband's usual stand by, I ordered the Twice cooked pork belly, Chicken Kung Pao, and we also got Pork Chow mein. We were very pleased with the food and the portions, all of the food had SOOO much flavor!!! I am normally not the biggest fan of sweet and sour pork but this one was excellent, the pork had a nice crunch to the batter. The twice cooked pork belly was very yummy and had a bacon texture I wasn't expecting. I'm usually pretty picky with Kung Pao, and there's was excellent, the only thing missing for me which I'm used to was peanuts. The chow mein was excellent. We will definitely be returning customers, and I want to also give the dim sum a try. I can't wait to try more of what they have to offer, I'm just sad I haven't tried them sooner. read more

Great variety of food selection with decent Chinese flavor can be provided. Highly recommend this place for a home-like Chinese cuisine taste. Have been to this place more than 5 times, and the food here is always fresh clean with great taste. The food here is definitely not in a strong and salty side, instead, you can really take some umami and fresh feeling out of it. Most importantly, you will not get thirsty after taking the food here! read more

Very Good Food for a Good Price. The Place is Clean and the Staff is very friendly. I would highly recommend Lotus 8 to everyone-

We just threw away $18 worth of Kung Pao Chicken. They used so much fish sauce in the preparation that we thought maybe it was Kung Pao fish. We have eaten there several times, but this was really bad. The restaurant itself has a strong odor of polish remover to make matters worse. read more

Visit: 7/31/21 Came here around 11:45am with Soha and Ada! We were quickly seated. NOTE TO SELF: there's a discount on Yelp check-in! Totally forgot to use it. We ordered a variety of things on the menu, and everything tasted delicious! 1) Salt and pepper fish 2) Sitry fry chicken 3) Walnut shrimp 4) Scallop fried rice 5) Vegetable and tofu stir fry I don't know if any of the names of the dishes above are correct, but check out the pictures! I think the two dishes that surprised me the most were the fried rice and the vegetable/tofu dish. I loved the tofu used - it was kinda eggy - not your traditional type of tofu. The fried rice also looked colorless, but it was so much flavor! Overall, I wouldn't mind coming here again. Is it a must go to destination? Not really. But if you didn't know what to get nearby, this is a good option! read more

Great food and service from the owner there. This is the go to place for Chinese food in Folsom. Authentic flavor

Food is so so. They seem to cater more of the American Chinese and not authentic to the Chinese cooking. The portion is a bit small for what they charge per entree. I tried the place twice just to see if I had the wrong impression the first round, but my second visit there confirmed my original impression. read more

I was in the neighborhood and saw this Chinese restaurant and decided to give it a try. Big mistake!!! Restaurant was empty. That should have been a warning but I ordered anyway. Orange chicken with fried rice that tasted like nothing I ever expected. Just a few bites and I was done. I just couldn't risk of getting diarrhea. My advice is to stay away from this place read more

Today lunch was fantastic! We ordered the lunch specials Mongolian beef w/veggie chow mein & veggie chow mein with Salt & pepper Thai spicy fish fillet. Service and food were good . We like it a lot and we come back again soon. I will also recommend this restaurant to my friends too.

I love the restaurant's name. Especially the Chinese name (荷花八弄) sound very poetic. The dining room in Lotus 8 is beautiful. The good thing is their foods are delicious, and the services are excellent! Lotus 8 Asian Cuisine is in a strip mall on Blue Ravine Road, very close to Folsom Blvd. Very convenient location. The dining room is pretty big compared to most Chinese restaurants. I love the high ceiling with the beautiful chandelier. I have my lunch there a couple of times. The foods are delicious. The services are outstanding! We had our yummy Chinese dishes on our table less than 15 minutes after we ordered them. The parking lot is spotless and looks very safe to me. I'm thrilled with both the food and service at Lotus 8. I think you'll not be disappointed. read more

I have been eating here since the original Lotus 8 opened around 9 or 10 years ago. I heard the current owner took over last year. A group of us came on Saturday thought give the new chef/owner a try. They brought out food really fast and refill our water pretty quick; however the soup is warm water with a bit of veggie in it, rice is hard, beef is plain, tofu pot is sweet, more veggie than pork in a pork dish, basically nothing even taste near OKAY. Good thing is there is a Chinese bakery at the old Starbucks, we get to eat some dim sum after leaving Lotus 8 hungry. One star for the water! read more

3 stars. Thank you for being open. Price is good. Food a little bit average. 3 stars wor wonton soup. Beef and shrimp very slimy. Broth was ok. Wontons were good. Overall average. 3.5 stars pork fried rice. This was good overall. Nice pieces of pork and egg. Nice flavor. 3 stars egg drop soup. Broth was ok. Very fresh crunchy big pieces of veggies and lots of them. I like my veggies a little more simmered in the soup to the point they start to get soft. Overall it was ok. read more
