Man this food is so good I think about it consistently I just don't go often because it's so PRICY! It was my first time visiting this restaurant.We were a party of 4 and went there on Saturday during the lunch hour and were surprised to find the restaurant empty. The ambiance is quite chill with a bar at one end and light classical music playing in the background. It was good to see some large print art of Kolkata where Indo-chinese food originates, telling me the restaurant knew their history. We soon sat at a table and were promptly attended by a server. The menu is small 2 pager (always a good sign) but with a good variety of items. We started with Drums of Heaven, Chilli Chicken, Manchow Soup with chicken, Coriander Soup with prawns and Hot and Sour Soup with chicken. The Soups were warm and hearty but I was a bit disappointed with the quantity. The bowl size was small and was barely enough for 1 person. However the taste was good and hit the right spice note, especially for Manchow soup The chicken starters were quite delectable and we did enjoy them. The Drums of heaven even though covered in sauce held on to the crispy texture. For the mains, we ordered Sizzling vegetables and Chilli Garlic Noodles with chicken. The Sizzling vegetables were seasonal and came stir fried in a red sauce. It was spicy and we enjoyed it. The noodles however were a bit disappointing both in taste and quantity. They lacked any depth of flavor and the quantity was barely enough for 2 people. A clear miss here. Time came for desserts and we ordered the Fried Icecream and Sizzling Chocolate Lava Cake. The Fried Icecream crust was delicious and the Chocolate Lava Cake was a pleasure for the soul. Both were quite exquisite and I highly recommend them. The bill for 4 came around $130 , which is quite decent for the things we ordered. On the cleanliness side, the tables were neatly orchestrated with clean cutlery. Also, the restroom was clean and well maintained. To suffice, this is a good place for a nice family lunch and dinner. Hands down the BEST indochinese food I've eaten in the US. I'm a huge fan of indochinese food and I seek it out everywhere I go. So far this is the only place that has lived up to my expectations. And mind you, I've tried indochinese all over America and in India too! I've eaten at both their locations (San Carlos and Folsom). The ambiance and service at Folsom is better for sure. Also, now they have a full service bar and the drinks are well balanced and tasty. The only unfavorable bit about this place is the prices, they are definitely a little higher than I would expect and prevents us from coming as often as we would like to. We tried drums of heaven and they were made perfect, crispy and juicy with explosion of flavors. My better half decided to give the devils Chicken a try (made in ghost pepper sauce), they made us sign a waver and rightly so :) :), it literally burns your tongue but definitely must try it once kind of an experience. The good system of democracy deciding where to eat had me reluctantly stumble upon this place despite doing my research. First of all, dishes are very pricy for the amount of food you get. Second, there is a lack of in between options that don't have too much sauce or are too dry. And for the namesake this place isn't a good place to go if you don't like spicy food as that is included in a majority of options and even mild has too much spice to finish your dish. Additionally there is a poor ratio of meat to veggies and you kind of have to blend and buy a bunch of expensive dishes to combine them into the right ratio and even then you don't finish your plate because of the spice. Here we go, we walked in and were told by their waiter, Prashant, that we could select a seat. We sat down and started reviewing the menu. This was an Indian Chinese fusion place, so I asked if the sauces were sweet or spicy, since most indo Chinese have both. He was rude and said the word chilli in front of my dish means it's spicy. I told him I understood what chilli meant and explained why I asked. He stated it was an authentic Chinese flavor and there was no sweet flavors. We ordered the Chili Garlic Noodles, the Paneer as an appetizer and the calcutta chicken. Chicken was chewy and rubbery. The paneer was half warm and half cold. Not surprising as the food came out too fast, similar to other reviews. It's obvious they are either reheating the food or they just toss it around and bring it out. I asked for Prashant's name and let him know I'll be writing a review since it's the first time we have been there. His service changed and he was nicer. He removed the paneer and chicken from our bill even when we said it was fine we would pay. He said since we didn't like it, we shouldn't have to pay. We had let him know about it being cold and chewy. We appreciate that he shows that customer service. He asked me about the noodles, and I let him know that it would be more hygienic to serve them in a serving bowl not a soup bowl, since the quantity is heaping and obviously being touched by the wait staff as it's being served. He stated that it's been like that for a long time, and I reminded him that he asked me and it wasn't a random answer. Overall we aren't coming here again. Seems more of like a bar with Indo Chinese food rather than a family restaurant although we saw plenty of Indian families dining there. This is not hyperbole, i truly do not think my items were cooked by anyone who actually likes to cook. I hope the owners can invest in higher quality ingredients in the future because I hate to leave bad reviews but this food is simply not of reasonable quality. Our friend recommended Red Hot Chilli Pepper to Indo-Chinese fusion and a different change of scenery. This spot is relatively new to the area, thus my family and I wanted to give it a try. My husband ordered the "chili garlic noodles" and specifically asked for "NO SPICE" for the children. However, when the order arrived, there was definite spice. We repeated the order and the waitress reiterated to us that there was no spice whatsoever, but we could obviously see the red peppers in this specific noodle entree. When my husband tasted it- there was spice. I wish communication was better in this specific incident. Thus, we had to order the pan-fried noodle dish which was nice for the kids as well as the honey chicken. I ordered the paneer dish and as well as steamed veggies for the children. My husband got the Calcutta chicken extra spicy and I was really worried about the heat level, thankfully it's spicy but I think the soy/umami flavor helps to balance it out. Very delicious flavor, for my palate I would prefer medium spice, but my husband loves heat. The manchurian cauliflower is good, but I was thinking of a but more sweet/savory crunchy. It comes with a vinegar sauce (at least I think it was for that) which actually added a really nice rounding out of the flavor. The fries and chicken nuggets was basic but actually good, the chicken nuggets were crispy and yummy. Would I go again?
