Came here after my family raved about the food and was better happy I gave this place a try! The restaurant was very clean and staff was polite and attentive. We ordered the firecracker shrimp, chicken chilli (dry), egg wrapped fried rice, crispy chilli potatoes and chill garlic noodles. Everything came out within 10 minutes, hot and fresh and was delicious! My personal faves were the firecracker shrimp, chicken chilli and the potatoes! Read a few mixed reviews about this place and before I write about my experience, let me declare that I am from Kolkata and have been at Red Hot Chilli Pepper over there few times, so I already had high expectations and I was not at all disappointed. I loved the food, the ambience and staff was very friendly. Praveen was very nice and checked on us if we were doing okay at regular intervals. Service was quick and I loved every dish. Specially Chilli fish, Manchurian Chicken and Chicken fried rice reminded me of the food from Kolkata, I missed that taste. Based on the reviews and a terrible previous Indo-Chinese restaurant in the area, I was wary of eating here. Very happy I took the chance. Garlic noodles and the chili chicken were amazing. Very tasty and spicy. I will definitely go back. This was a pickup order but the restaurant looks nice inside and had a number of people there. I would probably consider eating in next time. The only downside is this place is costly. I feel they have just transported their Bay Area pricing out here. I can live with it because the food is good. The dishes were tasty and very delicious, it was one of the best Chinese food I have ever had in Sacramento county. We give them 5* food and hospitality. Hubby and I decided to try this out to since it is new to the area. Much to our regret, we'll never go back to this restaurant. There's no wait when we went in at about 6pm on a weekday. We got seated right away. Ambience is casual, suited for families. It looked clean inside. When we sat down, the male server (never got the name), gave us a menu and left us for a few minutes to decide. When he came back, he asked: "Are you ready to order?". To this, we replied: "Yes, please". And then much to our surprise, he said: "Ok let's go!" We found this kinda a rude response to a customer, as if he's impatient in waiting for our order. We just ignored this, and continued to order the following: SWEET CORN SOUP FRIED TOFU WITH VEGETABLES CHICKEN DRUMS OF HEAVEN When the food arrived a few minutes later, and we started to eat, we found all of these three very salty. Even the Sweet Corn soup, was salty! The Vegetables were soggy, and the chicken were more on the tough/chewy side. We didn't want to waste food, so we ordered VEGETABLE FRIED RICE to counter the saltiness of food and hoped that the fried rice would help. But nope, after the fried rice arrived, it too was salty. While trying our best to swallow these food, here's the server coming over and asked us; "How's the food?", and to this, I replied and pointed to the food: "These 3 are very salty (pointing to the three food)". And to our astonishment, the server just looked at us and left. AGAIN! No response! I don't even know if he heard us, or just chose to ignore our response/answer to his question. Now, when we were asked for the bill, the server asked: "Did you like the food?". To which I replied "No. The food was horrible and very salty." Again, no response, he just left our table, came back with the bill, and took our card. Still, no comment. I'm pretty sure he heard me when I responded because my husband even commented about my very "too honest" response. We were given the full bill and paid for it. I guess this restaurant does not really care what their customers feel about their food nor care to improve on both the food or service. Food: 1 Star. Too Salty. There are much more better tasting food option somewhere in Folsom than this. Service : ZERO star. I kid you not, this interaction between us and the server did happen. I even thought and felt as if we were being "PUNK'D"! I suggest the owner train their servers/wait staff better or else, they will lose a lot more customers. Very happy to have a new Indo-Chinese restaurant in folsom especially after Inchin Bamboo got closed and we were deprived of the Indo Chinese cuisine in the area. The place is very well kept, service is good and one of those good restaurants where you can take your family for a fine dine without it being a home in the wall place like order Indian restaurants. I would rate the food 3.5/5 mainly because some dishes are not properly seasoned like the Hakka noodles was very bland lacking flavor but compliments well with their famous Vegetable Coins (a favorite) The Calcutta chicken was good as well but the Chilli garlic noodles were a lil too spicy. Cons: the prices are too high for the portion sizes. It does not make sense to charge SF rates in Folsom/ any other part of California. The place also opens at 12 & 5.30? which is a lil late for early eaters. It would be very nice if they open at 11.30 and 4.30/5 to allow people place order and have food by 12. When called to ask about it, person doesn't even acknowledge the mistake and not so much as a sorry. Instead she erratically asks me if I want to come back and collect the vegetable soup. mini-review of red hot chili pepper (note: this was a to-go order) ordered: szechwan eggplant (extra spicy, $14), szechwan fried rice (veg, mild, $18), indo chino chicken (mild, $22). total plus tip was about $65 so as far as spice levels go, i'd say it lives up to it's name. i had the mild chicken, but it still kicked my butt. wifey thought the eggplant wasn't spicy enough (but she loves spicy). i suspect if you like spicy food, this may be up your alley. the flavors were .... okay. they didn't knock my socks off, but they weren't horrible either. unfortunately, everything was crazy salty. the chicken was okay, a little dry, and drowned in this oil stuff (zoom in on the pic). the eggplant was mushy (we ended up tossing it). the fried rice was okay, but nothing memorable. using basmati (i think?) rice was a nice touch, but the whole dish had this mushy overcooked texture. what's funny is, all that being said, if the prices were more reasonable ($18 for fried rice???), maybe we'd give it another try. as it stands, i highly doubt we'll go back. i hate to diss a new restaurant ... and i hope this doesn't dissuade others from giving it a try. but yeah ... not for us. read more

It has lots of soya sauce and that dominated the taste.. Other than the momos, rest of the food was a let down as well as their service. Very low quality food that spoiled my stomach for the next 2 days... And the price of the food is very high compared to the quality of food and service. This is our favorite Indo-Chinese restaurant in California! I look forward to eating here at least 1-2x times each time I visit my family in Folsom. It's consistently fresh, high-quality, and extremely tasty. We've tried a lot of things on the menu including Hakka Noodle, Chili Garlic Noodle, Manchow Soup, Crispy Lamb, Chili Chicken, Chicken Momos, Calcutta Chicken and more. While some of the entrees can get very heavy on the sauce, it's still very enjoyable and reminds me of the Indo-Chinese back in India. My relatives from New Delhi visited and said the same! We ordered the Chili chicken lunch and the Spicy fish lunch. It came with hot and sour soup and a choice of fried or steamed rice. Hot and sour soup was soy sauce heavy, and that's all that I could really taste. Chicken was dry, fried pieces tossed in more soy sauce. Fish was battered and fried pieces, in an orange colored sauce. The food really lacked flavor and wasn't reminiscent of Indian Chinese food at all. Service was mediocre. The server dropped off a pitcher/bottle of water, but couldn't be bothered with pouring it in any of our glasses. A solid pass! read more

We have been here twice so far. Both times the service, the quality of the food, the ambiance, and the cleanliness were excellent. The first time, we ordered lemon pepper soup, vegetarian momos, and corn pepper salt. Everything was great, especially the corn pepper salt. In addition, we had the Masala Thums up Soda and the Shikanji drinks. They were both very refreshing. The second time, we had the Shezwan Fried Rice with Chicken and Egg Wrapped Fried Rice. Again, the taste and quality were excellent. The portion size is enough for at least two people.
