Rice Box was my introduction to the amazing food Parapol creates. A friend brought me to the original restaurant on Virginia street for a beautiful and unique high tea. Have enjoyed his food and warm hospitality. Good luck and be well.
Stopped in on our way to the Discovery Museum for a quick lunch, and I'm so glad we did! This was our first visit, but definitely not our last. I had the basil chicken, and it was so delicious--perfectly cooked, great flavor, and just the right portion size. I ordered level one spice, which still had a nice kick, but I would have gone spicier if my 3-year-old weren't with me. Service was friendly, the place was clean, and the prices were fair. Easy in and out, making it a great spot for a tasty, no-fuss meal. Can't wait to come back!
A cold rainy night calls for a perfect comfort dinner! We stopped by Rice Box Kitchen, a wonderful restaurant that is adjacent to the Discovery Museum. This place is one of my favorites, both in the colorful atmosphere, the wonderful and accommodating staff, and most importantly, the food! This evening, I opted for the Tom yum soup with tofu to warm up my soul, which was so delicious and flavorful! It had the right acidity, and the broth was very well balanced. Definitely one of my top Tom yum choices in Reno! My husband had the pork belly rice dish, again, SO flavorful and yummy! The rice had ginger in it, which added depth and flavor to the dish. I cannot recommend this place enough, I can't wait to try out the hot pot (which everyone in the restaurant had at the time, it looked delicious)!
So glad that Reno continues to have more diversity in food and culture. We heard lots of great things about Rice Box Kitchen and figured we'd check it out for ourselves! In terms of ambiance - adorable, hip, great vibe, and chill. The mural was also beautiful!The staff was very friendly and welcoming and willing to answer any questions you have about the menu. For food, I was looking forward to one of their curry dishes (Khao soi curry) but bummed that it had sold out by 5pm. This just means we gotta go back though so I'm not too upset about that haha. We tried a different green bean curry dish that they had for a special that day. However, they were out of green beans. They ended up substituting it with bell peppers which I'm not a big fan of and I would've appreciated if they asked me first what the options were for substituting it. Overall though, the taste of the dish was good. It had a nice kick to it! My husband got their noodle soup dish special that day (it was a special 24 hour seasoned broth). It had AMAZING flavor and a decent amount of meat in it. We also ordered what I thought was mochi cakes (on the menu it said 4 pieces baked cakes) and instead it was a single ube mochi cupcake. Kind of confused with what happened there but the ube mochi cupcake was delicious and we enjoyed it! It wasn't too sweet and had a lovely chewy texture. Overall, we enjoyed this place and look forward to coming back and trying some of their other dishes and their Sunday dim sum!
Was really excited to have my expectations exceeded here. The owners are fantastic and great on the recommendations. We came in for dim sum brunch. Actually, we have never been able to find a Reno dim sum we liked before. The pork buns were phenomenal the shumai through the roof, the shrimp dumplings oh my God, the shrimp dumplings, so awesome. Highly recommend, definitely a place to stop in on a Sunday early before they run out of all of the specialties they cook for the morning.
Needed something for lunch on Saturday and thought that this sounded perfect! Fast, friendly and impeccable is the only way to describe the service we received from the folks at this fantastic little shop. We Each ordered the Khao Soi, mine with Chicken and my husband with the Soft Shell Crab Special! Flavorful and warming with bouncy noodles and both proteins cooked perfectly. I had a Green Thai Tea with mine and hubby a Pandan Milk Tea. Everything was literally so delicious. I wouldn't be able to find fault if I tried! On top of that the atmosphere is comfortable and creative in a way that takes you home. I could see my self spending a lot more time here!
I've been wanting to try rice box since we visited our family in Reno last year but unfortunately we were on a time crunch. This time it worked out perfectly! We made it in for their Sunday brunch and everything was fantastic. We were greeted by the chef and owner who were very friendly and kindly guided us through the menu. After ordering almost everything on the brunch menu, we happily took our seats and sipped our delicious margs! The food continuously made its way to our table where the presentation and flavor made us "ooo" and "awww." Tbh, I was honestly so pleasantly surprised to find such delicious and authentic Thai food in such a cute, trendy setting! Complete with Thai background music and a beautiful mural depicting Thai culture. Everything was delicious but I would have to say my favorite dish was the Thai boat noodles! The broth is similar to pho but meatier and richer. So good!
I was hungry and decided to look up restaurants around me. Rice Box Kitchen appeared and it looked delicious based off the photos so I decided to go here. I ordered the Khao Mun Gai - poached which consist of boneless skinless chicken thighs over ginger coconut garlic rice, cucumbers and a side of sauce. The food came out to a little over $16. I was very disappointed in the chicken, it was dry and bland. The sauce was able to save it a little. The rice was easily the star of this dish. Also, the one employee that took my order seemed like she did not want to be there. She was not helpful and there was some attitude when I wanted to review the menu before I ordered. I wish one of the other employees had taken my order. Overall, I won't be ordering from the rice menu again. Honestly, I don't think it's worth it but I do want to come back and try their hot pot and dim sum.
Love the fresh and tasty food here! My fav go to is the classic khao mun gai chicken rice but the other stir fry dishes I've tried have been right up there with it. The coconut ginger rice is so flavorful and umami, yet light at the same time and it is absolutely divine. Some people may think this plate looks bland, but it is anything but. Great for to-go (or to enjoy outside on their picnic tables) but also plenty of spacious tables indoors. Pro tip: the green Thai tea is a must!!
Stopped in for lunch and were delighted to find Thursday is 10% off! The owner was absolutely welcoming and so sweet he shared some recommendations and took our order. We ordered the Thai Boat Noodles Soup and the Wonton Egg Noodle Soup with Hibiscus & Pineapple Fresca and Passion Fruit Guava Fresca to drink. Our food came out promptly and was delicious! The restaurant is clean and spacious. Highly recommend stopping in for some flavorful eats!
We had a cozy date night here and tried the Shabu shabu! It was our first hot pot experience and it didn't disappoint! We chose the miso broth and beef broth. It comes with all you can eat meat, veggies, and your choice of carbs. We tried the rice noodles and udon noodles. The rice noodles were simple and tasty and the udon noodles were pillowy, soft, and filling. Service was great for the hot pot. They were busy on a Thursday night. It was a great decision to make reservations specifically for the shabu shabu. We were drooling over the other dishes being brought to other tables. Their food looked scrumptious all around so we will definitely be back to try more. Seems like they do dim sum on the weekends as well!
Alright I think I have been here more than enough times to legitimately say this is one of my favorite places. The food is good but what makes this place amazing is the owner Perapol. His energy just radiates and honestly people tend to forget that that little extra bit of interaction from the staff or owner makes a huge difference. Ultimately eating here is like an experience. If you had a mediocre day and you stopped here to eat. You'll literally walk out feeling rejuvenated after interacting with the owner. So definitely that in itself makes the meal 10x better and memorable.
This place has changed venues so the photos are not what you would expect or at least what I expected. Ambiance, cutlery completely different now that they are located a few blocks away right next to the children's museum. We tried hot pot and it was apparent that a simple parts were still being reworked. We missed consistently missed a few items and attention but it was purely semantics not intention or lack of Want on staffs end. It's not the hot pot I'm used to from SoCal but nonetheless a great choice for reno( as there is none at all!) The meat selection and veggies were great and broth was excellent. It was a fun experience for my friends birthday! Would love to check out the dim sum brunch. Sounds fun!
Fun to try this place after having it on my list forever. I didn't realize it was a fast casual place so we walked in thinking we would be waited on...whoops! No big deal, just something to mention. We started with the kimchi fries- great flavor but the fries were hard to grab without using utensils. Wish larger fries had been used....kind of felt like we got the bottom of the batch! Variety of noodle and rice dishes. I needed more heat so I asked for their chili oil to up the heat. I wish the water offered had ice or was cold. Also wish utensils and napkins were more available. Service was fast and friendly - we even got some potstickers extra free of charge since the items we ordered came out all at different times. read more
This place came highly recommended to me by a local and then when I saw it was on Yelp's top 100 places in the country I knew I had to try it! We stopped by on a Sunday, which is their Dim Sum day. What I really like about this place is that they only prep a limited number of items and when they're done, that's it! So if you want to enjoy their food, you need to get here early! We came at 11:20am (they opened at 11:00am) and it was packed already. By 12:30pm they were out of a few items already. We got the chicken dumplings, crab rangoons, and Khao Sai with chicken. Wow, just incredible all around. The items were served quickly and piping hot. We sat at the bar so we could peek around the corner into the kitchen and watch them prep and slang these items with such speed and precision. I haven't found many places that serve Khao Soi so I knew I needed to get it. The broth was so rich with a spicy complex flavor and a generous portion of noodles. I got the steamed chicken while my friend got the fried chicken - honestly, we probably could've split it, especially since we got the other dim sum items. The owner is amazing, so friendly and really wants everyone to feel welcome. He knew so many people and it makes me want to be a regular here (too bad I don't live in Reno!) The owner is expanding his offerings and occasionally does a drag brunch, which seems really fun! Do yourself a favor and stop by here early and enjoy the amazing food! read more
We finally made our way into Rice Box Kitchen for hot pot and we already can't wait to go back. We made a reservation ahead of time, just in case, but we arrived around 5pm when they opened and the restaurant had plenty of seating open but it did start to fill up quick. We have a young baby so we were glad there was plenty of space for our stroller to set up next to our table. The owner was helpful in answering all our questions! We ordered green tea martinis and hot pot and everything was delicious. We had a lot of fun doing hot pot and loved the variety of things to order. We will most definitely be back! read more

Was greeted with a smile and order was taken quickly as the were only 2 others having lunch. Super cool hipster atmosphere and very clean. Lots of seating. The Thai boat noodle is very good! Has a little spicy kick to it with a lemongrass broth. Perfect for a cold day as today. Love this place. read more

Super friendly service and delicious food. I ordered the garlic pork rice plate and Khao Soi Curry with poached chicken. The dishes were so flavorful and comfortingly delicious. I also ordered the sesame balls which had the perfect chewiness and sweetness from the red bean filling. Definitely will be back. Yum! read more

We absolutely love this place! Chef Perapol is an eclectic restaurant owner who strives to make you feel at home. So come Eat, Drink, and Gossip! We have had the Shabu-Shabu hot pot, Dim-Sum take out, and tonight we did the private tasting menu! Totally Frigging Awesome food and experience! We will keep coming back for sure!! read more

Last Sunday woke up craving Dim Sum. Not many places in Reno area that serves dim sum. Came across Rice Box Kitchen on Google, so glad we did! We ordered all their dim sum dishes to try, a couple of rice plates w/ fried crab & pork belly & a tum yum soup. Every dish we ordered was so delicious. The hibiscus Fresca is a must try so refreshing. We think it was the owner who took our order and he is just fabulous & funny. It was definitely a great way to start our Sunday. Highly recommend & definitely will be back looking forward to trying their dim sum tower! read more

Love this place so much. My old work for Xmas Eve lunch catered by them and I tried them during the food crawl but this was the first time I've been here for sit down lunch. I finally made it here!!! Omg!! I was totally excited to be there. Yes, you need reservations!!! This is a must in order for the service to remain impeccable. Please don't get mad at the chef or staff and write a bad review when you show up without a reservation and they tell you, "you need a reservation". Trust the process, this business wants to ensure they're giving you the customer service you deserve. We made reservations for 6:45 and showed up 10 min. prior because we didn't want to be late. To be greeted by the one and only Mr. Parapol it is truly special. This man makes you dining experience perfection from the moment you walk in. Tonight we got to experience the Shabu Shabu, for me it was the first time. Price was around 35 dollars per person and we had 90 minutes to consume as much as we wanted of the items from the menu. The menu is super easy to understand, love the simplicity; broths, veggies, protein (shrimp, beef, pork), noodles, and appetizers, done. Beverages are separate. We had 1/2 spicy and regular broth. (Spicy broth is flavorful, not overwhelmingly hot) We had both Ramen and Soba noodles, 2 rice bowls, pot stickers, loads of fresh veggies and garlic fries. We also had thin shaved beef, pork and had them keep that shrimp coming! They also have this sesame sauce and a spicy oil based sauce that you can slather all over everything and makes it all taste amazing. I had wine with my meal and my sister friend had a Thai iced tea. To finish our meal they gave us a sweet and salty mochi cake like dessert (I forgot one of the flavors but I liked the matcha). The decor of the restaurant is clean and simple but fun. Mr. Parapol, Matt, and the Team make you feel right at home. The food keeps coming and the wine keeps flowing right along with their awesome vibe. I absolutely loved it here. I've never been at a restaurant where staff was so on point and made me feel at home. I made reservations to come back next Sunday to try their high tea service because I can't get enough of this place. I have to try everything this place and amazing people have to offer!! We hadn't been to Rice Box Kitchen in ages and decided to take our friends to High Tea Dim Sum on Easter Sunday! We are glad that we did! Everything was DELICIOUS! It was fun introducing our friends to Parapol and catching up with him as well. We have had lunch there several times and it has always been delicious and have enjoyed an evening of Shabu Shabu as well. This was our first time at High Tea Dim Sum and we were not disappointed. We understand now why it sells out so quickly. Make sure you check out this restaurant if you haven't done so already! We look forward to more great things to come! read more

Already been here a few times and they do not disappoint!! I'm kicking myself now for realizing that I haven't left them a stellar review yet for the amazing and hospitable service and impeccably creative dishes. My most memorable time here was for high tea dim sum which is pre-fixe for a tower of dim sum and other goodies as well as some salad, rice porridge and unlimited tea or alcoholic beverage of that day. Everything on the tower was DELICIOUS but fascinating at the same time. There were fusion dishes like lumpia and arroz caldo as well as more classic dishes like siomais and baos. At the top is a curated set of desserts like ube mochi, green tea custard and red velvet shortbread. Everything was very filling so I believe the tower is best split by two people. I've had their a la carte dishes as well and those are permanently on their normal menu. I've had the khao mun gai fried chicken cutlets before and I must say they have an exotic taste to them that I have not experienced before in chicken cutlets. They taste more vibrant due to the fusion of the ingredients. All in all, it makes sense why this is one of Reno's top spots to eat. It is soon making its way as a top spot to my personal favorites as well! read more
Came in for family dinner, party of four. The restaurant is small and full when we arrived. I highly encourage others to book reservations in advance. Staffs members are friendly, we were greeted at the door with friendly smile. The party of 4 decided to do hotpot. All of us really enjoyed the hotpot, their homemade desert mochi is to die for. I was told from day to day, the desert for the mochi changes. We had 2 different soup base, spicy and regular, the soup is very smooth in textures for both spices and normal soup. I encourage people to come out to midtown, and enjoy the hotpot, if you enjoy boba, Boba T is next door, and fresh pastries from Batch bakery is also next to Rice box. read more

First of all, Perapol , Gabe , and everybody at Rice Box Kitchen are genius for all their culinary creations they have created for such a great establishment. I LOVE Rice Box Kitchen and I can't recommend it enough to all of Northern Nevada and all that come through our beautiful city. Located right at the beginning of midtown where Great Full Gardens and Batch Bakery is, in that little center there before Sup and Two Chicks. I usually join in on the high tea dim sum with a fellow yelper and our friend on Sunday's and it sort of turned into a tradition with them one Sunday every month and I will say.. it's one of my favorite things to do in the Reno community for sure. I always admire their black and gold aesthetic and their blossoming tea set up is one of my favorite things I find myself needing to always take a picture of. I do recommend getting the Sangria, it is so refreshing with the apples, which are perfectly marinated in and a great little treat after finishing the drink. Now if you have never had Dim Sum.. FRESH Dim Sum, then this place is going to blow your mind, because there is a big difference with fresh dim sum vs. frozen dim sum that you guys would be surprised that some places around here do use. Everything on the tower is delicious , but my favorite thing that always makes my heart happy is their mochi bars. There is def something about Rice Box Kitchen's mochi bars that is so good. From the texture to the flavor, I just could never get enough of them and that's dangerous. Overall, like I said.. I LOVE Rice Box Kitchen and just have no other words then you guys just have to try it whether you are visiting Reno, you just moved to Reno , or you want to try different things. It's worth it. They do offer Shabu Shabu (Hot Pot) as well and other asian fusion foods that will not disappoint. read more
We made reservations for a Sunday Dim Sum after seeing them on the news with Michael! First of all, the service here is superb. They are super friendly and fun. I loved the concept of combining dim sum and high noon tea. Super creative and different from the usual Dim Sum that I'm used to. Presentation was super cute and classy. Everything is also hand made there, which I really love. I especially enjoyed the Baked Charsui Pork Bao and Pork Tapioca Dumpling. My only cons is that overall, the food was a bit too salty for my taste, especially the shrimp toast. Also, that you can only reserve in pairs (per tower). We had 3 people, but had to pay for 2 towers, which is food for 4 people. There was way too much food for the 3 of us, and we took a lot of it home. #ThankYouThursday Review Today I want to share my gratitude for Rice Box Kitchen, Perapol, Matt and the entire team at this incredible local business. There are SO MANY reasons I'm thankful to have this business and these people in our community and on Thankful Thursday in the midst of this season of gratitude, I want to share them: 1) Rice Box Kitchen has brought Reno a new take on Thai food, one born from the home and heart, and one we had never seen before they opened about two years ago. 2) Perapol is not a chef, but dang if he can't cook! He's Thai born, but learned at his mother's knee while living in Wyoming, and that's why his food is so filled with love. Fun fact: He was a successful interior designer in the Bay area who began hosting private dinners in his design studio and catering for his clients before the pandemic brought it all to an end. He turned to cooking to make ends meet, selling "rice boxes" and delivering them all over the Bay before friends encouraged him to look at making the move to Reno and opened this restaurant. 3) RICE BOX has evolved themselves and our scene in magnificent ways. From introducing Reno to handmade dim sum and long ass lines to get it, to Thai style shabu shabu, Reno's FIRST AND ONLY "High Tea" dim sum service, and most recently, an Asian inspired monthly chef's tasting experience, RB continues to show this community the depth and breadth of their repertoire. 4) Perapol is UNABASHEDLY HIMSELF and his authenticity and energy is another wonderful addition to the community at large. ABOVE IT ALL, he is a true community player, visiting local restaurants on his day off and sharing his own experiences on social, donating to local organizations, and generally supporting anyone who comes his way. We've been to the Dim Sum tea several times and decided to start our birthday month off with Perapol's tasting menu. There was no rice or noodles on the menu, but we knew the creativity and skill of the chef would make for an amazing experience. We were not disappointed! The restaurant is at once cool and homey. Perapol and his staff treat everyone like family. Since we told him we were celebrating our birthdays, he poured us each a glass of champagne. The food was spectacular! Each course was designed and executed with attention to every detail. The salad had roses in it and my husband is allergic. He said he didn't expect them to make one special, but they did! The polenta was creamy, but textured, with a crispy polenta cake and Parmesan crisp. The roasted mushrooms made the dish. The fish and rib eye courses were perfectly cooked! There was a demi-glace that chef Perapol spent three hours making that was divine. I won't describe every course, but I will say we could feel the love Perapol and his staff put in every dish and will definitely go back for anything, anytime! read more

Best Thai Food in Town. Fried Chicken and Fried Pork Over Rice were delicious. Boat Noodle Soup with Pork was hard to find in Reno, they have it!! My tummy was happy. Will be back for Dim Sum Sunday!! read more

Rice Box is amazing! We had the pleasure of meeting the owner, Perapol, and we loved how genuine he is and loved the creativity he puts in his dishes. We came for high tea dim sum which is by reservation only on Sundays-call ahead early! Their dim sum menu changes monthly and consists of a fusion of Thai, Chinese, and Filipino dishes. Their presentation of high tea was as beautiful as everything tasted! I especially loved the house sangria and botanical blooming tea. Service was also wonderful! They checked on every table and catered to everyone's needs attentively. We'll definitely be back to try their AYCE shabu-shabu when we're back in Reno. We loved it here so much that we came twice in a 4-day span. I was looking for Asian food in Reno and saw this 5-star average place on Yelp and knew I had to check it out. The first time we went was for lunch on a Thursday and it was pretty busy. You order at the counter and sit wherever you like. My wife and I each had the Khao man gai chicken and I'm glad I didn't share because it was so delish! My parents shared a Khao mun fried chicken and I took a bite of it and it was also pretty heavenly. The rice that came with the Khao man gai chicken was also really good, as well as the sauce. Dare I say it was the best Khao man gai I've ever had. I knew they had high tea dimsum on Sundays so I thought I should ask if they had anything available for this Sunday. Unfortunately, Perapol (the owner) said they were fully booked for the weekend. But he heard that it was my graduation so he decided he was going to make another table by the festive and inclusive tree (see pictures) to accommodate us. Wow. I was so blown away by this act of going above and beyond for my party. On to Sunday.. we arrived just before 1pm and were immediately seated. Our drink orders were taken very quickly (there was an option of sangria and hot tea, or both). Our food also came out very quickly and tasted like everything was just cooked right before it was served. Everything was amazing, but my favorite was the mochi with a peanut filling. It reminded me of a delicacy from home (Philippines). The arroz caldo and puto also made me very nostalgic. I loved it so much that I asked Perapol if he would ever considering expanding to Vegas. Unfortunately, he said it's not in the plans. But hey, there's $50 round trip flights from Vegas to Reno. read more

I would love to try the dim sum high tea, but I can't find any information about it. I have tried Yelp and your website. It's mentioned as existing, but there are no details that I can find.
