I have eaten at this restaurant ever since I was a child, and in all these years I have found the food to be consistent in quality and have never been served a terrible dish. Their pork noodle dish was always a favorite of mine, and to this day I have not found a restaurant that can replicate the taste. I've read a few reviews of people saying how horrible the Rice Bowl's food is and I have to say personally I disagree. I know not everyone can agree on food, but I think this is one of the best Chinese restaurants in the area and it deserves to be given a fair chance. read more

I am a diabetic and usually I do not eat Chinese because I cannot tolerate the food. In this Chinese restaurant they cook my food without MSG or sugar. They also accommodate me by steaming my pot stickers and not deep frying them. I also ask for vinegar, hot bean oil, chopped ginger, and hot Chinese mustard with a small bowl. I dump everything the bowl, add sweet and low, stir and I have a wonderful sauce for my pot stickers. Their wait staff adjusts based upon Lunch Rush and Dinner Rush. Maybe because I order my food, I do not find the wait tedious. In general my food service is prompt and the food is prepared as requested. I drink water with lemon and they always to respond when I ask for more. They are quiet, calm, and courteous in their service, which means that they are not rushing around refilling sodas and water.. It is part of their ambiance that they are not intrusive but they are responsive. If you do not like Chinese food, do not come here. They cook their bean sprouts fresh and they do not serve food out of cans. I know because I do not deal well with canned foods. I lived in the Orient and their food is Americanized as MOST Chinese foods are here, in comparison. It is like Japanese food is different in Japan. No California rolls there! I found that the Rice Bowl serves well made food with good portions. The Rice Bowl is not bustling. It is not hurry, hurry. We go almost every Sunday after church to eat. The service is outstanding and so is the food.

Horrible service! Walked in last night around 5 p.m. There were only 2 other people in the restaurant, both sitting at one table. They had already eaten and were finishing up. It seemed there was only 1 woman serving the whole restaurant. She seated us and gave us menu's within 5 minutes. 10 minutes after that, we still hadn't even been asked whether we want something to drink or want to order an appetizer. Meanwhile, the other two people in the restaurant had left and we were the only one's there. Another customer walked in. He asked the server how she was doing, she said good, and that was it! He was being more polite than her! We decided then that we didn't like the customer service we were (not) getting, and got up to leave. As we're walking by her she asks, "What happened?!" My husband, who is very blunt, told her, "Bad customer service." She then said, "Oh my god! People are so rude!" As we walked out of the restaurant. Really?? You're providing customer service and you say that to your customers?! You better believe I'll be telling everyone I know! ... Also, this place has poor eviews by other people for crappy food and unsanitary practices. read more

I have been going to the rice bowl since i was in high school and I am now 68 years old. My husband and i moved to Visalia and I will still go to the rice Bowl I can not find good Chinese food here like the rice Bowl it is the best no one can make chow mein like they do it is the best and the owners are great I would recommend this resturant to everyone read more

Stay away! At first I thought it seemed like a pretty cool place. They do have decent food and many of the employees are decent people. But, people (including myself) seem to have a tendency to have bad experiences with their management, who don't seem to understand what the concept of "customer service" means. The manager is a lady (?) in her 50's or 60's. The simple task of paying my bill turned my last pleasant evening there into a complete nightmare for me and my family. This manager copped an attitude with me over the bill, which was obviously written by somebody else altogether. But, I ended up finding myself being screamed at for it in front of my wife and kids. I had to look around and do a double take because I thought someone had pulled out a space age remote control and changed the channel, but as it turns out, this woman simply wasn't playing with a full deck of cards. As if that isn't bad enough, you can't understand half of what she says. So, I responded like anybody else would; "Huh?", and she started making me feel stupid because I couldn't understand her very broken and poorly spoken English. One of the level headed servers (!!!) finally got it straightened out. If it was just me, I'd brush it off. But, I had my family with me so I wasn't pleased at all. And I've talked to some other people who were regulars, and came to hear they stopped going there for similar reasons. And that the problematic lady was actually the manager! The servers are actually nice! Just stay away from the manager! One buddy of mine had his date with him just a few days ago, and this same manager berated him in front of his date and all the other customers while placing his order because he was hard of hearing because he worked on jet planes for most of his life. He used to eat there every week, but when he brought a date with him, the manager got really pissy with him. Talk about gratitude. And he's as patient and professional as anybody I know. I've heard other people share bad experiences they had there. And that cranky lady manager seems to be the biggest problem by far. But, once my good friend told me about his incident, that basically said it all as far as I was concerned. So, I figured it should be brought up as to exactly why I'm embarrassed to bring anybody I know to this restaurant for a pleasant night out. This manager doesn't have any business BEING in a restaurant with other people present, let alone RUNNING one. People want to enjoy a nice evening out with their friends and families without being hassled. Especially by the owner of a restaurant. HELLO! read more

Great food and great prices. My family and I have been coming here for years and it hasn't changed much; always great! We travel from a long way to eat here. When in Hanford we sometimes order our food to go. Introduced my husband to this place and he will say hands down best pot stickers and egg rolls he has had in a long time. This is an unfortunate case of the straw that broke the camel's back. I just cannot seem to get a glass of water in anywhere near a timely manner. We are experiencing a heat wave and although I will order another beverage, I try to limit sugar and caffeine and they will not bring water until after the super salty soup.I have lived in Hanford for some years and have always tried to patronize this restaurant. Mom likes to eat here and told me to just bring my own. But when I literally have to bring my own water, I am done. Not to mention the contentious shouting in the kitchen and the embarassing comments from the waiter on the size of my order - it was a SALAD, and I meant to take most of it home! They bring it undressed so it is reasonable to take what is uneaten home. I AM DONE!!! Don't bother responding, I have read your other responses and they all smack of, "Go somewhere else ". When we first got there is was quiet, we orderd and got our food my food was fine, but my fiance's plate had a hair in it. Was clearly not any of ours. It as short and curly, sorry to be blunt but it look like a pubic hair. We called over one of the ladies, and she was accused us of going to the bathroom and putting it in out plates. The nerve of that lady. She yelled at us "What you want me to do!" All we wanted was not to pay for the plate with the hair, which was hardly touched, and they refused, and kept blaming us. So we left. Yes without paying. She was very rude and unresonable, she didn't appoligize or try to make matters any better. So I took matters in my own hands. First and last time ever. read more

This is my favorite Chinese restaurant, I am seated as soon as i enter the restaurant .The food is always freshly cooked, Their hot food is always served hot, They are always willing to accommodate changes to a menu at my request,. I love their Iced tea. My favorite dish is the Shrimp lo mien and pot stickers. The prices are reasonable and the portions are large. I enjoy taking friends there for lunch. read more

I continue to go here even though we have many more choices in chinese quisine. I have discovered a new favorite item. The Rice Bowl Noodle bowl which is chock full of fresh vegetables, shrimp, pork, and chicken. Its a guge portion so you probably wont eat it all. I'm having to watch what i eat and thus is one item i dont gave to feel guilty eating and its delicious. The owner Stella will also tell you they will alter their ingredients to meet your dietary needs so you can always find something that will fit in your diet. Dont listen to the 1 star negatives theres always a complainer and of course servers vary so dont judge on just one experience. And by the way that pork the guy complained about being freezer burned...hes a fool...the meat supposed to be the way it appears its gone through a candying process thats famous in most Chinese restaurants and is well sought after. Took my brother and his family here after visiting our Mom in the hospital. We ordered our food and had just been served our soup when my 15 year old niece went to got to the bathroom to wash her hands. She was trying to get the paper towel dispenser to work when she heard the toilet flush. An employee came out of the stall and helped her un jam the paper-towel dispenser. The girl then exited the bathroom WITHOUT washing her hands. My niece came back to the table to tell us and then through the double doors we could see the employee working in the kitchen. I asked to speak to the manager. A young girl came out and when I asked to see the manager. She immediately said "your food is almost ready". I said. that I was sorry we would not be eating there and told her why. They went to speak to the employee and came back and said "She went into the bathroom to just button her pants". I then said that if she was in the stall and had touched the door, etc then she was required to wash her hands (keep in mind my niece HEARD the toilet flush). The young girl (wearing shorts and sandals) said "she doesn't cook the food, she just washes the dishes" to which I replied that she had to touch the clean dishes when removing from the dishwasher. They did not get it at all. I said to the young girl that this was how people got food poisoning to which she replied "I have had food poisoning 7 times and I have a college degree" She was under the impression that food poisoning was not a serious issue. I asked for the owners name and they refused. We left and I called from my car to ask for the manager or owners name and the guy that came on the phone Started to argue with me. He wanted to justify that she didn't actually USE the bathroom and that she only washed dishes and when I refused to buy this excuse he told me to "F-off" three times and hung up on me. I will be calling the health department first thing tomorrow and would advise people to use caution when dining here. Unlike the young lady, I have not had food poisoning 7 times, JUST ONCE and that was ONE too many times. It is miserable and can be extremely dangerous. Please be careful when dining here read more

We went to The Rice Bowl the Monday evening before Christmas too, and had to listen to two people bitch and complain after eating half of their meal. The issue with the Kung Pao Chicken is it is safer to serve without peanuts as people can be allergic to it, and that is what the owner said to you. If someone would listen when they are being told something and have an education they might understand. But obviously they do not. I have been coming to this restaurant for forty plus years and it is the best chinese food in town. The curry tomato issue, which I had to listen to while I was trying to eat, no it does not come with chunks of tomatoes you ass holes. My husband and I were very offended by this rude couples comments and demands. If it would have been me, I would have refused service. The described individuals ruined our dinner with no consideration for anyone around them and took it out on the waitresses who really have nothing to do with how the food is cooked they just serve the customers, it is very unfair for the rest of the clientele to have to listen to the bitching and complaining when they are stuffing their faces even though they did not like the food. To the arrogant ass hole couple who posted their dislikes you cannot even tell apart the owner from the daughter who was the one in the back and helped you before you left. My husband stuck around while the daughter was waiting on the ass holes in case there was trouble. In this town we are very welcoming but take care of each other. read more
