Our party of 4 was excited to stop in on a Wednesday afternoon for ice cream. Love that they have not changed the cute pink decor. Realizing my hunger outweighed my sweet wish for the cold treat, I eyed the food menu. Our helpful ice cream server cautioned the sandwich menu was not super special, yet my ham sandwich was still tasty and filling. We requested chocolate chip, strawberry, cookies, rocky road, and lemon ice cream. The lemon is one of our ice cream server's favorite flavors and was suggested when asked. It nostalgically reminds me of a blast from the past Girl Scout Lemon Cookie, not too sweet but not too tangy. We enjoyed our choices seated at the only 4-stool counter available for dining. I had samples of each of the other flavors, and I can see why the chocolate chip is most loved and ordered. We will be back. read more

Wanted to try some ice cream from this local shop. Went to the address listed on Yelp and it was under construction. Sign outside of the business said to check out their trailer across the street at the park. Was so glad to try their ice cream. My fiancé got the junior stack of chocolate chip and I got a single stack of strawberry and chocolate chip. The ice cream servings were huge and definitely hit the spot on a warm spring day. We decided to take the train to Hanford to join in on the Fresno tradition. We went to Superior Dairy, I didn't know they were under construction. So they have a cute little trailer across the street. Service I think is slower because they can only fit 2 people in there at a time to make the ice creams, milkshakes etc. The ice creams are HUGE. A single is like a double, I mean really huge. A Jr size is a good size, it's a normal sized ice cream. The thing is, if you order toppings they put them on the side. I don't know if it's because they don't have proper bowls to hold the ice cream right now due to being in a trailer. But they scooped two of the ice creams and then we waited another 5 minutes for the other two and then gave us all the toppings, so my niece and nephew had already eaten half their ice cream before they got the toppings. The ice creams are so huge and the bowls are so small it's hard to even put the toppings on. We kind of just dipped our ice cream in the toppings. They only had one non dairy option I believe it was a strawberry freeze. I could be wrong. My nieces and nephew enjoyed the ice cream but didn't finish it due to it being too large. Now I know, I will order Jr sizes next time and maybe bring bowls with us so we can properly put on the toppings. Drove almost 200 miles (way) to have lunch with my bro. Wanted ice cream afterwards. HUGE disappointment. Just one person in line and it took 10 mins to complete their order. Heard a lot about this place, so knowing me I had to try it. Menu is pretty limited ; maybe about ten flavors ; and options of sundaes and etc. I opted for a sundae and some toppings; boy was it tasty. Nice treat. That homemade peanut butter sauce; is nice and gooey and thick. You can tell it isn't straight from a jar; like some ice cream shoppes. My sister ordered a small scoop of banana ice cream; the portion was epic. The staff was friendly! They do give you a lot of ice cream for the price! Cons- they should give you a bigger cup for your ice cream; so you don't lose half ur treat everytime you dip your spoon in it. Please remodel the dining room; or at least put some benches outside to sit at; literally no where to sit in the hot baking sun. Not allowed to be inside business- after receiving ice cream you need to leave. We were excited to come here and have some ice cream with family. We tried the peach (seasonal flavor) and the mint and chip. The mint and chip was ok, the peach didn't have a lot of flavor, and the toppings were from a can. The ceiling was very cool looking. The line was long but moved pretty fast. Went to go sit and wait, was yelled at across the restaurant that we can't sit and have to go outside as soon as we get our ice cream. Superior dairy is a MUST do when in Hanford. My mother in law grew up in Hanford. Whenever we come by to visit her grave we take a swing by superior dairy and get delicious ice cream. The location is super cool, I know a l lot of the place is not open for seating because they are trying to preserve it..which I appreciate but I wish there was more seating for folks who do want to dine in. I love history and so this location was super cool. The pink booths, ornate ceiling and lighting, and even an old vault, all appear to be original to the 1920s building. It's very well preserved. It looks like Back to the Future could have been filmed here- there's even a courthouse across the street. The employees (and maybe the owner?) were very friendly and gave us a good suggestions. We got the maple nut and banana ice cream with the peanut butter sauce. The sauce is life changing! And the maple nut was our favorite ice cream. Everything had a positive and a negative aspect to it. As soon as you walk in it felt nostalgic and looked like you stepped into an old movie set, yet it smelled like an old lady farted urine onto a dead possum. Stopped by this place on our way back from the Sequoias. Arrived and found that they have no inside seating. Only take out. The inside of the place was pretty run down. Restrooms were available, however they were located in the storage area. The men's restroom you couldn't close the door and only one if three hinges were actually attached. You'd better come hungry. Superior's "brand" is enormous scoops. The ice cream itself is good but not the best on the planet, and the flavors are limited - but you go for the novelty of the size. The ambience is a little unfriendly since COVID - large "Do Not Sit" signs on the counters, seating blocked off, and not allowing inside eating even when the weather is over 100 degrees. The reason given is that they can't hire enough staff, but there could be other ways to accommodate customers, like stand-up tables and/or counter ordering. They're risking alienating long -term customers. But, hey, it's still fun. We live in a nearby town and sent some of our granddaughter's visiting softball team to the "local legend." They weren't disappointed. Tip - 2 scoops to share are WAY less expensive than 2 single scoops. read more

This place would get 5 stars for its portion size and nostalgia but... The ice cream melted quickly. From the moment it was handed to us we had to start eating quickly and methodically. And once outdoors we didn't stand a chance. The size of the ice cream was too big to enjoy because it dripped everywhere. Most of it became soup. The ice cream was fine. The inability to stay and eat at the location was a great inconvenience. As many families do we decided to take Amtrak to Hanford and enjoy Superior Dairy. It was an extremely hot day, with not being allowed to sit inside the thought was we would go across the street to the park. However just our luck, it appeared as if the sprinklers ran all night as the grass was soaking wet. The ice cream was melting faster than we could eat it. I got a Jr. cup of Rocky Road with walnuts and marshmallow sauce on the side. It was $6 and I'm not complaining but at the same time, the hype wasn't backed up. The ice cream had ice crystals in it which threw off the texture and the flavor was alright. Also, all purchases are to go, despite all the indoor seating which I find hilarious. My diabetic alert dog eye balled me with stark incredulity..but I reminded her I'd taken a shot. She still gave me mad side eye. I put aside a bit for her to sample later. I feel like if eggnog and pumpkin pie had a baby and tossed it in the deep freeze, this is what would result. I was in heaven. This belief was seconded by the afore mentioned pupper who rolled her eyes back into her head and licked the little cup clean. I'm pretty sure she managed to even lick the scent off the Styrofoam. I was a bit shocked to see how run down the place was. It was sad, because it seems to be a staple in the community. I figured they would keep up with the interior...just maintenance to make it look presentable and clean. I will say the scoops of ice cream are large! I opted for a sundae since they are portioned smaller. You definitely get your moneys worth here, portions are huge. I think the ice cream was good. It's not something I would drive an hour for again. I still enjoyed it and think it would of been more enjoyable sitting at a table not rushing to finish it so it didn't melt in the hot sun. The ice cream is good but not worth the price or worth the experience of having to sit in your car, a street curb, or the creepy park across the street. Customers can no longer sit inside apparently due to staff shortages. However, they've doubled their prices and reduced their portion sizes. The days of sitting inside and enjoying a banana split or superior special from a bowl are long gone. You now have to eat a sundae vertically, from a styrofoam cup.
