Food is okay but my chicken was burnt this time. However the cashier was horrible. She must be the owner herself since she hasn't been fired yet already. Today I got a beef and chicken teriyaki bowl, which was fine except for the beef. The beef was overcooked and dry. The California roll is mostly rice. The service is ok, sometimes a bit rude and uninterested, and on rare occasions, friendly. I come here because my spouse likes the rice bowls. Chicken Kushikatsu Plate - kushikatsu was good but said came with Namasu Salad but was Sunomomo (cucumber) which would have been okay but cucumbers were limp & aging. Not a fan at all. If you're wanting Masaru's, do yourself a favor and go to the other location on Goshen! I stopped in today for lunch. It was busy like always, but that's to be expected. It took a while for our order to be prepared (one chicken teriyaki bowl and one veggie tempura bowl). When I got the order, I looked in the bag and saw there was only one container of cucumber slices. I asked if we could please have a second one and then the two gals in front stepped aside and has a really weird, hushed conversation, before finally telling me that the chicken bowl doesn't come with cucumbers -- they were very awkward about it and said: "if you want more, you have to pay for it". Odd, because at the other location, they give them with every rice bowl order :/ it was weird so I just got out of there. When I got home, I realized they didn't include any of the teriyaki or ponzu sauce that's supposed to come with the dishes. Ugh. Everything was super dry and bland. I wish I would have noticed when I was there, but they probably wouldn't have given them to me anyway. Yuck! Ah yes, the stars go down for the second visit. Wife ordered the curry and Masaru's hasn't changed their practice of putting 5¢ worth of curry over steamed veggies and rice. I ordered the Teri beef and chicken bowl. You know, teriyaki beef and chicken should have teriyaki sauce on it. Nope, not one drop. They also didn't not properly seal one of the sauce cups for what I assume was gyoza dipping sauce since we did have an order of that. This sauce leaked onto the bag and into the upholstery of our new car. Not ever coming back and will discourage any and all from eating at Masaru's. read more

We always order the chicken teriyaki bowls and I get a side order of tempura shrimp "it's sold by individual pieces", so I get like 3-4 of them. This place is a Visalia mainstay for more than a decade, but unfortunately it doesn't look like anyone has invested in it for at least as long. The food is still good, but the interior is starting to look really rundown. There are beer "giveaways" from at least 10 years ago, once cool, now just a sign that no one really cares. It's probably one way to make a profit, but it doesn't do much for the diner. We get ours to go, in a pinch, but would likely eat here more often if it looked like someone was invested. Unfortunately, what you see in the front of the house is often far better than what's going on in back... and that's a little scary. read more

Despite the only 3 star reviews on Yelp I decided to give them a try as I was in the mood for some good rice-bowl style Japanese food. It was actually better than I thought it would be. Even though they were still take out only the service I did get was fast and friendly. Also....had their Chicken Terriyaki Combo plate and it was quite good. Received a whole leg/thigh portion with rice, marinated cucumbers and vegetable tempura. It was all well prepared and I liked that the terriyaki sauce was more tangy than sweet. The curtains are disgusting that the employees walk in and out from. When you order take out they'll never give the appropriate spices or sauces that are suppose to come with things. I e. Masaru's is a consistent rotation type place I enjoy their spicy teriyaki beef bowl. My family and I enjoy it at least twice a month. The sushi here is not worth it at all. I ordered a few California rolls and Spicy tuna rolls. They are not cut evenly, there is more rice than actual meat, couldn't even taste the cucumber it taste bitter. My spicy tuna roll has a very strong metallic roll, I ate one and it does not taste fresh at all. I would not recommend this location for Sushi. Don't order spicy Mayo either, mine was super watery and barely stayed on the roll when I tried to eat it. read more

You get what you pay for frankly. Place is decent. We order it a lot at my work just out of convenience. The spicy chicken bowl is highly inconsistent, meat varying in size from plate to plate. The spicy sauce is great. Sushi roll is literally 90% rice, 10% filling. So you're paying essentially for seaweed wrapped rice balls that you can dip in soy. I come here occasionally and usually get the teriyaki chicken bowl. The chicken is always a little dry so I decided to get one of their soups instead. As orders came out the woman at the register placed several bags on the counter and didn't call out the order numbers. A gentlemen and myself waited nearly 20 minutes before asking if our orders were ready. The lady then handed me the bag that was sitting on the counter the entire time!!! The ladies working the counter were more concerned with there gossip than helping customers as usual. Once I arrived at home and sat down to enjoy my meal I realized what a mess their packaging was. They didn't have proper containers to package soup and decided to place it in a soda cup and tape the straw hole closed. As you may imagine this did not work!
