ROACHES. Dead roaches. Live roaches. We spend $50-$80 every time for lunch/dinner. Went for lunch. I was served water with a baby roach floating. Made the waiter aware. She said "ok". And placed another cup of water on our table 5minutes later. No apology. Nothing. Just walked off. 2Weeks later we try this restaurant again for dinner. Different servers. Now there's a live roach crawling underneath our table. Loss our appetite. Made the waiter aware there's a roach crawling around our table. All she said was "ok". No apology. Didn't attempt to kill it. Just stood at the counter. I'm sorry this is NOT "ok". And their unapologetic responses just show how often this must happen. TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVES paid $42 for 2 curry chickens and a tuna roll they hand me a bag wanted to make sure they charged me for the extra rice and the bag given wasn't mine. Watch out next customer I touched your pick up. Clerk was so rude about it but she closed it up and your getting it l!!! They didn't even give any sauces either??? This place serves sushi, but the real raw experience is dealing with the rude bitch who answers the phone. I've met friendlier wasabi. She cuts you off, talks down to you, and makes you feel like ordering food is some kind of personal insult to her existence. If your "customer service" is a disrespectful brat with zero phone manners, don't be surprised when people stop calling and start going to literally any other sushi spot. The place looks clean from the outside but the inside is not! The pictures in the menu are deceiving! The bathroom was dirty, the floors and they had rice cookers stored in the bathroom. The service was not the best either, there was only one waiter the other lady was just there and didn't even acknowledge me when I was trying to pay until a few minutes later. Worst experience ever. Never going back . I ordered food to pick up and asked for eel sauce when I ordered. I go to pick it up and there's no eel sauce so I go back after driving home and a very rude server wouldn't sell me eel sauce even though I asked for it over the phone. The beef and chicken were cooked nicely, the veggies were not over cooked and still had a nice soft crunch (which i enjoy), the noodles cooked to perfection. The staff was great upon arrival and upon check out. The part that was a major disappointment for me was the following: When I placed my order- sukiyaki chicken I added beef. I've done this severallll times before. The waitress did say, "it'll be an extra charge. Is that okay?" I replied, "yes." However BIG HEADS UP!!!! The price to add meat was $8.99!!! Stopped by Tokyo Bowl today for the first time to grab a late lunch to-go and am glad I did! Reading other reviews I was hesitant to try this place because of some negative comments regarding customer service. Today there were two employees at the register, both busy working on receipt stuff but I was greeted right away and asked if I was ordering or picking up. When one employee recognized I was indecisive she directed me to the menus with item descriptions which I appreciated! I ended up choosing the Sukiyaki chicken - a mix of white and dark meet cooked with onions, bell pepper, carrots, and zucchini topped with sesame seeds and a light teriyaki sauce over rice or noodles or a mix of both. The bowl + a soda was just under $13 which I think is reasonable considering this is tasty, restaurant quality food ready in a reasonable time PLUS I'll get at least 2 meals out of the portion. They have a call ahead option but I was able to order in person, leave to run some errands, and returned ~15 minutes later to my food being hot and ready! read more

The food is amazing! The chicken sukayaki is my favorite I comes with plenty of chicken and the plates are a very good size. I love that you can get the all-white meat option on their entrees. Very disappointed with the amount of meat in my order. Purchased two chicken sukiyaki over rice and I received 2 vegetable sukiyaki with a few pieces of chicken. They been very skimpy with the meat even though their prices are up between 2 and 6 dollars on the menu items. I paid 32 dollars for my meal and it was not worth it. I've been coming to Tokyo Bowl for years and I will admit the quality of the food has gone down tremendously. It's been very hit or miss with this place the last few times I've came here (more miss than hit). I always go for the combination plate with the tempura shrimp sushi roll. When I'd try to pick up my sushi it would fall apart completely. The shrimp was hard and chewy, and the roll itself tasted very dry and flavorless. The chicken was good but even then I've had days where the chicken sucks. The only reason I come here is because porterville lacks good sushi places. I'm not a fan of the one by save mart but at this point I'd prefer that place over Tokyo bowl now. read more

The cashier (Dow) needs a major training day in customer service and an attitude adjustment wouldn't hurt either... my coworkers and I purchased 80$ worth of food for our lunch break and Dow said she had no time to write down the names next to the orders as she was writing them down. I'm confused by this place. I've been about 4 times now; half the time the food was very good, the other half it was lousy. The good times would earn it 4 stars, the bad times 2 stars. I'm giving it only 2 stars because frankly it now feels like a gamble when I order there. My issues are with the tempura. On bad visits, the coating was greasy and tasted like old oil. The shrimp tempura, well, there was exactly one piece of shrimp. Another problem, some of the vegetables were almost raw because they were cut in such huge pieces, which makes eating the sweet potato very unpleasant, and usually sweet potato is my favorite part of the tempura dish. Now, when I went there with my sister and she ordered sushi, she seemed to be happy with it, and my food was good too. I wonder if they have different chefs with different attitudes or skills, because the difference between my visits is very noticeable, but unfortunately makes me reluctant to try it again. read more

There are several unsanitary restaurants in the Porterville area. This looks like another one. The reviews on yelp may be your only warning as I guess they do not believe in enforcing health codes in Tulare County. I've noticed that the "health scores" on yelp tend to be telling. Haven't ate here in a long time and it's standards have dropped ordered 5 rolls which were alright for their price but our entrees were bad .. the Yaki soba noodles have no flavor .. and sadly the sesame chicken is dry and they didn't give us the sauce with it . They were pretty swamped when we were waiting but still this is for improvement read more
