I have been here before and had an amazing experience! Today I wanted some good sushi and fried rice. I spent $50 on the Spicy Shrimp Tempura Roll and the Shrimp fried rice, which had a lot of food. The food was beautiful and smelt amazing! I was so hungry and excited to eat and ate the Spicy Shrimp Tempura roll first. Unfortunately, as soon as I was done eating my roll I got food poisoning almost immediately! I have spent the rest of my night sick and miserable. I never even got to try the fried rice. Would give a zero if I could. The Owner, roberto will passively allow his staff to be openly rude and racist to their customers. We had walked into a prior altercation that had left our server upset. We ordered and waited longer than needed for two waters and ended up overhearing racist remarks about about the assumed ethnicity of the person before us. And chanting "ice ice baby." over a small verbal dispute. Even though majority of their revenue are the minority, including staff. We left disgusted before even asking what we wanted to order. The cashier was super nice, but her boss or owner did not allow me to get teriyaki chicken with my bowl because I wanted fried rice, I would have paid the difference but instead my only option if I wanted fried rice was a grilled chicken plate with the teriyaki sauce on the side at an extra cost. I don't see what the big deal was as it is always an option at every other Japanese place I've been. Including Tokyo Teriyaki in Visalia which doesn't even charge extra and is amazing. They are closed Saturdays or I would have made the drive, sucks this was my first experience here and sadly I won't be back even though it is a short drive. The food was mediocre, the chicken was sparingly sprinkled into the rice which is what I DID NOT WANT. The large miso soup which was their biggest option was tiny. I would rather drive the extra miles for better service and a generous portion unlike this place. Also the wait was extreme and there was no one there. Save your money. read more

Tulare doesn't have much to offer but Tokoyo Place is one of my faves. We got the sushi sampler for $22, chicken teriyaki bowl and cucumber salad. It was all good but my 5 are for our waitress. My baby wanted an ice cream and I was sure they had the green tea ice cream but no, our waitress was so kind hearted that she shared the ice cream that she bought for her son. Thank you so much Went again not disappointed at all. Got a bento box #51 with a roll on the side and I was pleasantly Anyone who gives a place like this a bad review is really just a sad person. There's not much to choose from in Tulare so give it a chance. If your looking for high end then go to Fresno or Los Angeles. This is a great place for Tulare. read more

Review is for sushi only... Stay away from this place. The sushi is more or less grocery store caliber. The ladies up front were nice enough, but they got my order wrong. I took it back in and the lady insisted I ordered a "Cali roll" which is BS because I've never referred to a California roll as that. She got a little bit annoyed, but her partner chilled her out and they got the order straight in the end. All that being said, they had pho on the menu and salsa in the fridge. I'm pretty sure the ladies working the till were Vietnamese and there looked to be a few Mexicans in the kitchen, so maybe the place is great and I just ordered wrong. The cashier was sweet but the other female behind the counter was rude and refused to make a tiny modification. It was confusing and did not make sense why she refused to make a teriyaki bowl with fried rice. Would have gladly paid extra. This is common at other local Japanese restaurants. They offer fried rice on the menu yet we were forced to order grilled chicken with fried rice with teriyaki on the side. We were charged for that side sauce. She was adamant that the sauce had to be on the side and not on top of the chicken. Very strange experience. Next time, we will drive to Visalia to Tokyo Teriyaki. Myself and a couple of colleagues were in Central Cal for a work event, and sushi is never a bad idea in our minds. We were totally wrong. Sushi was a very bad idea in this instance. Tokyo Place was walking distance from our hote and had decent Yelp reviews so we decided to give it a try. I was worried as soon as we walked in the door, because even for a while-in-the-wall restaurant it looked disorganized. Let's start with the service. When we walked in we were unsure of whether to seat ourselves or to order at the counter then sit, because there wasn't anyone to greet us and there was a line at the counter. One of my colleagues asked someone at the counter so we seated ourselves and waited for the server. Once the server arrived, she was sweet but probably new. She kept saying "I don't know" when asked about the menu. She also didn't remember to give us plates/utensils/chopsticks until we asked. I asked about wine and sake, and the waitress didn't know what they had so I went along with the table and ordered a Sapporo. The food was very bland. The sushi had no flavor at all. It definitely tasted over cooked. The shrimp and vegetable tempura was also very gross. It had a crispy outside, but you could taste raw batter just underneath it. The tempura sauce was too thick and had a strong teriyaki flavor (not normal for us). The crabmeat was also very dry. I'm from Orange County where we have a lot of sushi/fish, so this restaurant was the complete opposite of what I'm used to. I was told not to try and eat sushi that far from the ocean, and I should've heeded their advice. The three of us couldn't finish our meals after many attempts to do so. We just couldn't get over how bad everything tasted. I wouldn't recommend this place. read more

Outstanding gem of a place! We shared a chicken bento box and a spicy tuna roll, six pieces, on the tuna roll. The California and tuna rolls were made great so they did not fall apart. This allows one to dip the nuggets into the delightful dipping sauces. Plenty of options on the different bento boxes they offer. I am not sure if I can call the combination pho "real pho" but it does taste great. It is a light broth with a hint of roasted garlic and I think lemon grass. The beef slices are a little thick but meat to noodle ratio is good. The star is the broth for sure. The only place I would want to drink the whole broth. read more
