Went for Mother's Day 2026 and it had been a while since we had dined here. To our surprise there was a female chef cooking for us and she was absolutely fantastic! I don't recall her name but she was very friendly and fun! The food was a bit over priced for what it was. But it was good. The steaks were extremely thin. Like they took a regular New York steak and sliced on the equator a few times to make it 4 steaks out of the initial one. The cook even said when I requested medium rare that it would be hard for her to achieve that. The bathrooms were clean but the exhaust vents above the tables were covered in grease and grime like it had been months and months since they had been cleaned. Came here for lunch. It ordered the chicken teriyaki tepenyaki. It was so delicious! The sauces were amazing, chicken was moist and flavorful, and the vegetables were cooked perfectly. This is a great hidden jewel in Visalia! Made reservations for during the week; which was perfect. Not busy; had our own table ( felt like we were at an elegant dinner just for us ). The chef was very personable and even did some tricks and was creative while cooking the food. We enjoyed the whole experience. The food was delicious; tasty and hot. A real shame of a business. My party was completely vegetarian hence I called in before making a reservation to ensure they can do tofu tepenyaki (as many places do), they say YES. I come in with my large party, we order drinks and the mains. And then right before serving us the waitress comes out and says "nevermind someone in the back said we can't do tofu tepenyaki." And they gave me my food in a regular Togo plastic container which I thought was weird. My CA roll was sticky was not good it was like the rice they used was from the day before. This was our first time trying Tokyo Garden it went amazingly well. Our waitress was very friendly and very helpful but our cook stole the show. While seeing others being very stoic and quiet our cook Alfredo, or Fred as he said they call him, put on a show!! He was funny, charismatic and super nice! I've been here multiple times now , tonight we celebrated my mothers birthday with the family , 8 adults and 3 children (quiet a large party to serve) We had a blast, the only complaint is they sent our chef to another party when we had reserved her days in advance , I even called again today to ensure they had my reservation for our party and requested the female chef (whom is amazing btw) , so they knew we wanted her and tried to send us someone else . So the wait was long . But once the chef arrived we had a great time . She was entertaining and the food was cooked to perfection, the filet mignon was to die for. Came here with lower expectations seeing how there's a very small Asian population in the area and minimal options for sushi. I definitely didn't expect to find premium fish cuts or omakase type experiences. However, my main gripe is how the prices did not reflect the lower quality of sushi. The sushi combo was $42, but had imitation crab as one of the pieces. The California rolls were $12 but didn't even use real crab and weren't dusted with tobiko. The only positive part of the meal was getting two large pieces of uni gunkan for $16.75. For the prices we paid here, we definitely would've gotten a much better experience even in Bay Area with its exorbitant prices. read more

Enjoyed their teppanyaki the other night and nice to see this place is still doing well after all these years. We had a dinner reservation for a party of 16. They did require a deposit to secure the reservation so just something to be aware of. Our entire party arrived at the reservation time and we were promptly seated. I truthfully do not see how this place stays open- Looks like a Dentist office from the outside and the service was not that great. The food is good. The service is another story. Horrible horrible service. Manager sitting playing on her phone at a table completely ignoring all their customers. We were seated and were about to walk out when they finally came and took our drink order. We were about to walk out again when they finally took our food order. This is a modest size restaurant with a plethora of options. They offer sushi bar experience, a traditional restaurant dining experience, a bar tapas dining experience and a hibachi family dining setting experience. On this visit we choose the hibachi dining experience and ordered from the bar Hot Sakai and a tall Sapporo and from the sushi bar we ordered Sunset Roll. Our server was attentive and Anna was very friendly. Our chef was friendly and engaging. Overall this was a good experience and we will revisit this restaurant. This place is very busy so you will need a reservation if you're interested in the hibachi dining. I didn't give a five star (being generous with this rating) because I waiting a hour and a half for seating and they still took a larger walk-in party before seating us and we only had three in our party.
