Vegas-grade Holidate special occasion spot. -- Of all the Fresno restaurant grand openings over the past couple years, Oiza made one of the most delicious first impressions and quickly became a favorite holiday date-night discovery. When we first visited, it was also one of the few Asian restaurants open during the holidays, which made getting that reservation feel even more special. Coming from Vegas, the beau is especially particular about sushi, and Oiza successfully exceeded expectations. As for me, having dined at Japanese restaurants from Nobu and Morimoto to Michelin-starred experiences, I was equally impressed by the ambience, service, presentation and overall execution. It also makes sense that the operation feels seasoned: Oiza is part of Lin's Restaurant Group, the same local family behind other Fresno-area favorites including Hino Oishi, J-Pot, Spicy J's, Ramen Hayashi and Lin's Fusion. It's obvious the staff has been properly trained in both front- and back-of-house fine dining operations. We've now dined here three times -- each for a different experience -- and Oiza has delivered. First Holidate: Fabulous evening from start to finish. Everyone from our server to management checked in on us, service felt polished without being intrusive, and we appreciated the elegant attention to detail. Bonus points for being seated side by side. We ended up closing out the restaurant as the last two guests to leave. Hamachi ceviche -- Exactly what an appetizer should do: whet your appetite for more. Salmon spoons -- Tasty little bites. Wagyu gyoza -- Rich and indulgent. Miso seabass -- If miso seabass is on the menu, I'm ordering it. Definitely a reorder. Hi Tuna roll -- Unique enough that we ordered it again on our second visit. Yellowtail & salmon sashimi -- Excellent quality and freshness. Second Celebradate: We returned to celebrate a special industry achievement and arrived just in time for our 5:45 p.m. reservation. Although I had booked directly through Oiza's website via Tock, the reservation didn't appear in their system. Fortunately, I had the email and text confirmations, and the team graciously accommodated us after a short wait. We repeated several favorites and ventured into a few new dishes: Hamachi ceviche -- Worth repeating. Grilled oysters -- A welcome addition to the table. Uni udon pasta -- The one miss for us. I wanted more uni and umami depth; the noodles were slightly overcooked and the sauce could have been smoother. Hi Tuna roll -- Just as good the second time. Amaebi & yellowtail sashimi -- Fresh and beautifully presented. Our server Itzy was wonderful throughout the evening and surprised us with a complimentary dessert. We would have ordered the matcha parfait if we hadn't been so full -- or if Dubai chocolate wasn't already waiting at home. Third time was the charm: We came back for Oiza's impressive luncheon specials and loaded up on several of our favorites while finally trying the temakis. The perfectly crunchy seaweed made every bite, and the lunch offerings were such delicious, incredible value. Even the takeaway bags deserve a mention -- sturdy enough that they've earned a second life as reusable lunch bags. Do: Make a reservation. Try the lunch specials. Buy the gift cards. This was an Anniversary dinner and we have wanted to try this restaurant. It was definitely an experience! We knew that it would be costly but can still be a surprise when the bill arrives, watch out for the drinks We only ordered what we had seen reviewed and listened to our servers recommendations. There are a few things we plan to go back and try though. Based on his recommendation we tried the scallop temaki and it was delicious but we still really want to try the scallop spoons. Everyone talked about the sushi so we tried the house Iza Sake roll, it was good but honestly didn't blow us away. So many reviews told us to splurge on the Wagu A-5 hot rock lettuce wraps. It was fun to have them cooked in front of us and the meat was buttery, I would say to save your money. Let them cook your fried rice in front of you for the ambiance and you get more for less money. It also has Wagu beef. We also tried the bone marrow and we liked it but I do believe it's an acquired taste. We had two mixed drinks the Hibiscus Shoga, very good, but a bit too sweet. Then the Kohahu Carmel Old Fashioned which was a recommendation and we love old fashions. This was good but way too sweet for us. I do recommend the Kurosawa Nigori. We plan to return to try the spoons and seafood risotto and maybe the lobster temaki. Also recommend going earlier than later. His fun and positive personality added to the experience, and I felt really well taken care of I love taking myself on solo dinner dates, and this is exactly why I enjoy dining alone sometimes. I want to start this off by saying the service was amazing! Came in for a Saturday lunch and it wasn't too busy. Our server checked in on us right away, suggested great dishes, and even gave us a dessert on the house for our anniversary. The martini was pretty strong, and I liked that it came with a shot of sake. The bone marrow was good, but the salmon spoon really took the show. The ultimate date and special occasion spot. Always love the vibes when I walk in. I've been there 4x already (3x for dinner, 1x for lunch), and they never disappoint. The servers start off by pouring water over washcloths to wipe your hands when you get seated. The wagyu sando for lunch was just fine. I'd probably get their sushi obento for variety next time for lunch. For dinner, their Duo Delight is so worth it, which is their chef's choice sushi dinner for 2. Definitely a perfect amount of food with beautiful presentation. Their Kagawa Maki roll was tasty also. The Uni Udon Pasta was good if you want something a bit heavier. Think they were going for an uni carbonara type deal. I think it made its way back to the dinner menu after seeing it only on the lunch menu for some time. This was my first time eating here with friends, we had a reservation and were welcomed instantly! It was pretty busy but you know that means the food would be good. It was a beautiful restaurant, and I really appreciated the warm hand towels. They have a big menu, and I was a little confused on what each thing was but thankfully I looked up pictures on their Instagram and we were able to figure out what each item was or get a general idea. The wait staff were helpful and the drinks were great. I ordered a sushi roll and a temaki. I decided to try the fatty tuna with the sea urchin and caviar. It was pretty good! I throughly enjoyed my food, the presentation was great and I will definitely be back to try some of their different items. Our experience at O-iza just blew me away! We went for my birthday and it is a great place to celebrate a special occasion. Our server did forget the birthday parfait, which was a bit disappointing, but we really enjoyed the food!! We sat on the patio and were quite cold even with the fire heaters. It seems like you have to get lucky with the seating and the proximity to the heaters. For appetizers, we ordered the salmon spoons and DIY handroll set. The salmon spoons were crab wrapped in salmon and were very fun to eat. We also enjoyed the DIY handroll set, especially the salmon and tuna portion. The only downside was that it only came with 3 pieces of nori, which we thought wasn't enough. For our entrees, we ordered the uni carbonara, Kagawa Maki roll and the chirashi bowl. We did not love the uni carbonara and the thought it was lacking in flavor. The chirashi bowl on the other hand was phenomenal, with fresh cuts of fish upon a bed of fluffy rice. My husband has never gone here and so we decided to go as a family for dinner. So glad it was not a busy day, with no reservation we did a walk-in and was able to be seated in 5 mins. Because we were a walk-in we were told that we were limited to dine for an hour and 30 mins which is more than enough time. Thanks Leo for accommodating. We were seated and served water right away by Mindee and she was super sweet, I really think she has exceptional customer service. Kelly was our server and was pretty efficient and quick. The order: we got the Wagyu fried rice, which was absolutely delicious. It's buttery, has that charred flavor from the hot pot, great flavor. I think anyone who orders this dish will love it. I got the chirashi which I have had before and of course it was super good. The sushi rice below it was well prepared with some furikake flakes. The sashimi were thick pieces and very fresh. My husband wanted something refreshing and Kelly recommended the snow crab salad and it was perfect. The dressing was nice, sweet and citrus. Will definitely order this again. The ambiance is slightly dimmed and noise is moderated. Overall experience was super pleasant. We got in quick, had great customer service, and delicious food. So excited to finally try out this restaurant! The decor is beautiful. I was immediately greeted with friendly smiles. You get free edamame for the table which had a great spicy garlic seasoning. Our server, Carrie, was very attentive and gave us updates when our dishes would be out soon. What I tried: Furikake bone marrow (5/5): Amazing. A flavor bomb. The chimichurri cuts through the fattiness of the bone marrow and the pickled onions add a nice kick. The milk bread was perfectly toasted and fluffy on the inside. Definitely try this! Pan seared umi scallops (4/5): The scallops were perfect. The prosciutto salad was the perfect accompaniment and so light and fresh. The saffron risotto, however, was not my favorite. Loved that it was loaded with different mushrooms, but it lacked any flavor. Black sesame hazelnut (10/5): This is what I was looking forward to all night! I loveeee anything black sesame, so I made sure to leave room in my stomach! The presentation is beautiful. The black sesame ice cream was sweet and nutty, exactly what I was hoping for. First time visit around 1 PM on a Sunday afternoon, and it was not crowded. . . Somehow in my head, I thought it was in the location of 'Nami' restaurant near Woodward Park, but it is located close by to Target in the Riverpark shopping center near the Regal theater. No Teppanyaki, only menu offerings. There are two patios you can choose from, but only TWO tables 'for two' that are more private (which I would have preferred) rather than dining at the long sections of multiple seating offered. Because of the table set up, (which is VERY close to other diners) you can clearly hear conversations on either side of you. . . even when you don't want to. . . and THEY can hear YOU! That was a big minus for me. I felt too confined. Seating was just too close for comfort. :/ The interior is 'airy', peaceful, and pleasing. Low volume music plays in the background. Service is attentive and cheerful. Rose scented, hot steamy towels are offered (to clean your hands after the complementary edamame appetizer) and is a special touch! Guys. Our experience at Oiza was absolutely amazing. My husband took me out to dinner for my birthday . The restaurant is beautifully decorated; however, this time we chose to eat outside, where they have a patio and tables, comfortable and relaxing spot to eat as well. We both had our favorites, the King Salmon roll and the Hibachi Shrimp plate with steamed rice. For drinks, my husband had an Asahi and as for myself, I was very happy to see they had mocktails. I ended up choosing Hana Martini, which has now become my favorite mocktail. It has green tea, passion fruit, hibiscus, and pineapple flavors and it was such a great drink! For dessert, we ordered the taro tiramisu. It was the first time ever trying the dessert and we loved it. We also got a bonus birthday surprise: a birthday matcha parfait with matcha ice cream, matcha pocki sticks, cake, red bran and Frosted Flakes, beautifully presented. We had the best service! Both visits have been a year apart. Each time, it was for my birthday celebration. My first visit: super big group of us. My second visit: me and one of my good friends, nice one on one time. I've gotta say, they realllllly impressed me the first time. They did a fantastic job with our big group. I don't remember a single bad moment from that night. The staff was very attentive and checked on us quite often... now that is service that deserves a tip (take notes lazy people). They took our orders promptly and got our food & drinks out to us in no time. I enjoyed my second visit just as much of course-- but it was just much more noticeable when we were a big crowd of how excellent the service was. I'm sorry, I can't remember the roll I ordered the first visit but it was something with salmon on top. Plus, the Salmon Spoons (delish) and a margarita x2. My friends all ordered a variety of things and we all just shared a bite here and there. Second visit, I remember a little better because it was this year... we got the Hamachi Ceviche (very good), the Wagyu Fried Rice (good but not my fave-- loved the presentation), the Fujiyama roll, and the Hi Tuna (both good). For dessert, we got the Black Sesame Hazelnut (wanted to love this but i feel the peanut flavor was a little too strong-- I wanted more black sesame). Again, another great presentation of this though... as they poured the caramel over. Next time, I'm going for the Mango. So, yes... The drinks were yummy and the food was delicious. They even gave me a little birthday treat by the end of dinner, both times, and a cute little gift baggie. Noise level wise even with a full house was moderate. The food though was just ok. The steak although cooked to medium rare had no sear and was more fatty than expected... I forget the name of the shrimp dish we ordered but came with mango and such underneath a friend piece of shrimp. Wasn't a fan of that. Edamame was good. The sake I had ordered had what I could not tell to be some sort particles or something from the dish washer when the bottle was washed or something. Didn't complain about it though. Was just doing my best to be mindful of it and just remove anything I had seen. I'd definitely recommend different bottles in the future maybe it was pieces of that? We came a little early but they told us they had to wait till the exact time to seat us. I wish they sat us earlier but it's okay. We had to wait a little bit. I would say this place does get busy. There wasn't that many seats to sit for waiting but the decor was clean. We got seated and the service was very attentive and fast. Our waitress, Shouana explained us every dish that we ordered and was very pleasant to talk to. We ordered the uni carbonara pasta, kagawa maki roll, salmon spoon roll and matcha parfait for dessert. I like how they bring out hot towelettes to wipe our hands in the beginning. Bathrooms were very nice too with automatic mouthwash and toothpick dispenser. They start you with hand towels and a complimentary edamame appetizer that had a flavorful seasoning - stands out as something I might pay for. It's soooooooo expensive. I am a spoiled brat who lives right near Ventura in Studio City, LA. Fine. And it is Fresno (not to be mean), so ok. But some of the regular nigiri were misses too. The proportion of rice to fish is off and the rice is too sweet. Uni is a very delicate flavor and a big shiso leaf just overpowers. Service good, place is pretty.
