I am so impressed with this restaurant! If I lived closer to Hanford I would come every week. The phrase "this could heal me" fully applies. The restaurant is family owned, and our server was the owner's daughter. Our food came out quickly and was amazing--the portions and drinks were generous, the chicken in my enchiladas was grilled well, etc. Unbeknownst to us, she sketched the 3 of us while we ate on our check and it was the sweetest thing ever. First time here and already planning to come back. Came with three friends--one had the red pozole (she's had it before) and said it was as good as always. Another had three crunchy chicken tacos--super tasty and so big I ended up eating one. Chicken was flavorful, though a little more sour cream would've made it even better. One of my other friends had a fish taco and called it delicious. I had four tacos: two crispy tripitas (crispy-fried small intestine), one asada, and one shrimp. The tripitas were crispy and flavorful, and the shrimp taco was great--especially since I'm allergic to eggs and appreciated that they don't use a mayo-based sauce like most places. The asada was just okay--not the best I've had, but still enjoyable and I'd order it again. Tortillas were handmade (big plus), and the chips and salsa at the beginning were a great start--the salsa had that homie, made-from-scratch taste. Overall, service was respectful and attentive. One benefit of being a regular at any establishment is that you get to see when a place is not as good as you know it usually is. This past week was one of those visits. We have been coming here for quite a while now and it really has become a favorite spot for us. The service the food the atmosphere are all very good. So I'm going to go easy on this review. We came in for a late lunch/ early dinner. So we didn't see the usual staff we normally see for the dinner hours. I wasn't too worried about it because it's always good here. When you come into Colima you just grab whatever spot is open. So that's what we did. They seemed to be adequately staffed. A young lady came and gave us menus and left. Didn't ask if we wanted anything to drink. She then seated another party and asked them what they wanted to drink. I thought "she will catch herself and remember she never asked us". Nope. Just went on about her business. Brought the other party their drinks and eventually came to get our orders again never asking what we wanted to drink. I had to ask my wife what she wanted. So the server could hear. Now this young lady wasn't rude or anything. I guess just preoccupied or whatever. So we ordered our food and she left. Wife had the barbacoa beef with beans and rice. I had the tacos dorados. As usual they don't take too long with the food so it came pretty fast. Of course the food looked amazing when it arrived. The wife seemed to be enjoying her meal. I dug into my meal and immediately noticed the taco shells were not fresh. They were like something from taco bell or a grocery store. But definitely not fresh. Still it looked pretty good. But that's where it ended. Because talk about zero flavor. I had the shredded beef in my tacos. But this had no flavor whatsoever. I tried putting some of the sauce from my wife's meal on it to add some flavor. But nothing helped. I was surprised honestly. Because everything here always is so good. I definitely will not be ordering this again and don't recommend it to anyone. However! That doesn't not mean I won't be back. Because not all restaurants do "everything " well. There's always "something " that isn't all that. At least that's my experience. Colima is still a great place and I highly recommend it. Just don't get the tacos dorados. read more

We both wanted chile rellenos and they were out of them. So I settled for a taco and enchilada. Waitress asked if I wanted the taco crunchy and i said yes. If I wanted a taco like I got I would've gone to Taco Bell and it probably would have been better. The enchilada was kinda dry not saucy with no cheese on top, the sauce needs work... So we tried this restaurant on a Sunday afternoon. The ambiance was fine, the staff was wonderful and it had a real family atmosphere. We weren't impressed with the food however. The salsa was sweet like ketchup, the beans and rice were fair at best. (Two things that I judge all Mexican restaurants by) My Chille Verde pork enchiladas were good, the poodle was pretty good. I went back a second time to Colima's in Hanford. I ordered the Menudo with extra hominy, and cilantro. It was the right kind of spicy, and I added a little salt and pepper for taste. I also added lemon, white onion, and oregano. It was wonderful!! And the best part were the homemade white corn tortillas!! They are the best, and I have yet to have any other restaurant beat their corn tortillas. I also had the chorizo breakfast burrito, mmmmmmm, a white flour tortilla with chorizo, egg, potatoes, rice, and beans. Talk about a very good burrito. Another great valley Mexican restaurant that has a large and loyal following. Their menu seems to feature everything a great Mexican should offer and they have....weekday Menudo!! Usually I judge a breakfast place by the quality of its Eggs Benedict and to me the quality of a good Mexican restaurant is largely dependent on the quality and availability of their Menudo. Colima's didn't disappoint as the broth was rich with a hint of spice and the tripe is on point. Love the cool chairs you sit in too....service was fast and friendly. I was really craving for some Mexican food after a long day hiking in the Sequoia National Park, so we ended up choosing this place over the other Mexican restaurants in the area. The service was friendly and fast, I felt the waitress we had was quite attentive and very nice to talk to. She brought us chips and salsa which we devoured in no time. The shrimp fajita was yummy, with quite a large amount of shrimp as well. What really struck me was the beans, I'm not a fan of the beans but these ones were a little bit more salty than the ones I'm used to and they tasted really good! Overall the food is about 3-4 stars but I enjoyed the meal and the service made it more of a 4 star restaurant. read more

Came on a Sunday morning while in town for a visit. The restaurant looked packed with cars lining the street out front. Luckily, we were able to get a table pretty easily, which btw had beautiful chairs with rounded back as seen in the photos here. They are very comfortable. The place was welcoming and did not have any blaring music to muffle our conversation. I loved the lighter, crispy chips that came free. The salsa was okay, not my favorite. A Michelada on a weekend morning sounded good made w/ Pacifico (my favorite Mexican beer). It came in a large glass mug, the salted rim and a few shrimp as garnish . The beer mix itself was very plain. I shared it and even then didn't finish it. I wouldn't order it again. Appetizer: Carnitas (fresh chunks of meat plated with sliced tomatoes, sliced onion and avocado and some pickled jalapeno chips. The quality and tenderness of the pork was fantastic. The homemade corn tortilla that come alongside your food (depending what you order) were soft and thick. I enjoyed them very much. They were just as good later that day when I ate my leftovers. Entrees/Main dish: Menudo (small), Posole (small) and Chili Verde wet burrito (w/ green sauce of course). Menudo was decent. Loved that it wasn't greasy, but it didn't have much hominy. It was mostly tripe. I had to add a lot of seasoning to it before I ate it, which I sometimes get annoyed with. Too much work for a small bowl of soup. The Posole on the other hand had lots of hominy and shredded meat. It came w/ the usual side of cabbage, etc. I didn't taste it, and the guests didn't finish their small bowl. I was told the burrito was just okay as well. It had a lot of rice which is never a good thing in a burrito. Half of it was taken to-go. The side of beans were really good. That would be one of the things I remember about this place. For being it's in a small town and was recommended, I would say it was A-OK. This is one of our recent favorite taco locations. The house made tortillas are delicious. The restaurant is small but has everything a bigger restaurant has. The one negative thing are the tables. Although they appear to be Mexican authentic made the base does not allow you to stretch your feet. So those of us who have big feet are stuck sitting bow-legged or any other way you may be able to bend your feet. read more

My husband ordered for pick up today around 6:45 PM. They took his order and let him know it will be ready in 20-30 mins. He showed up there around 7:05 to locked doors and a "closed" sign. Wtf? He had to call them 3 times until someone finally picked up the phone. When someone finally answered they told him they were closed. But there was also still a family inside eating dinner. He had to remind them that he made an order over the phone and still needed to pick it up! It was ready at the counter, but for some reason they thought it was ok to just lock the doors and try to ignore phone calls. If it's too late in the evening to make a phone order, we would've have preferred that they just told us we couldn't order! I'll give this place one extra star because the food was decent. I have been wanting to check this place out for some time and finally went. They were fairly busy and still allowed customers to choose their own seats. We came to order take out and they have a fairly vague menu above the counter which I thought was the only menu and was struggling to choose. After a minute the cashier offered us an actual menu to look at which explained everything in detail. My husband got tacos and I got a wet verde burrito with carnitas and 2 chile rellenos. It took a while to come out so they brought us chips and salsa while we waited. The salsa was pretty spicy for me but the chips were good on their own. Finally our food came and we went home to eat. The burrito and tacos were delicious, but I was most excited for the Chile Rellenos and was disappointed that they lacked flavor and the entree was mostly sauce. We just ordered from this restaurant and the food was extremely over priced and it was all bland. The rice was hard and dry, the so called carne asada was more like ground meat than anything else that my 1 year old even spit out. My carnitas had so much fat thats all you could taste. And then when i took the fat out my second taco the meat was dry. The tortillas was the worst I've ever tasted and where too thick, My dog didn't even want to eat them.
