Had a hard time finding this place due to construction in the area. The big blue building was slapping me in the face. Can't miss the big blue building. The ambiance reminded me of a few wholes in the wall in Mexico. The staff was so friendly and kind. Very attentive to our needs and made sure our waters were always full. Being our first time we order a few different items off the menu. Shredded beef taquitos, wet verde beef burrito, super burrito, as well as some tacos. The food came out quickly and hit the spot. Our only complaint was the asada was almost ground beef, it would have been nice to have larger pieces of beef but would come back again.

Food was great! Service was great! Ambiance was great! I ordered two breakfast burritos thinking it would be small but no! Burritos are great size and they are fresh! I ordered the asada sope and breakfast burritos. The pina (pine apple) agua Fresca was refreshing and a good size!

We decided to eat here after seeing it on our way to another place the other day. It looks so festive and like it would have some great food. So the very next day we made it a point to give it a try. It's got some great reviews so it should be amazing. As I said it is very bright and festive on the outside and it flows on into the inside. It's a very open space type establishment. With table seating and a few booths. There is a huge menu behind the counter so you can order food to go. We chose to sit at one of the booths. We only saw one person working the counter and she brought us our menus. As I said it wasn't busy so I could understand not many servers working the floor. We looked over the menus as the young lady brought us chips. But no salsa. I thought that was strange. Most place bring chips and salsa together. I'm saying this because this type of thing continued throughout the visit. We had to ask for the salsa and it seemed like she forgot. Ok no problem. It happens. We looked over the menu which was really nice. With plenty of great choices. My wife opted for the enchiladas with beans and rice. But wanted green sauce on the side. Not on the enchiladas. I mean she had to repeat this several times before the young lady understood. Not sure why. But she just wasn't getting it. I ordered carnitas tacos with beans and rice and a Modelo Cerveza with lime. The Cerveza arrived promptly. No lime. I'm like wow really. Our food arrived before the lime. Which did get to me by the way. The food looked delicious. However my wife asked for green sauce on the side. She was brought red sauce. After repeating herself two or three times. It still didn't register with the server. I told my wife to say something. But she was like no it's ok and soldiered on with her food. Which she found to be bland. Void of any kind of flavor. I felt bad bcz she really wanted to try this place. My food tasted pretty good. The carnitas looked to be precooked like they got it from Grocery Outlet and just warmed it up. But it did taste good. The beans and rice were pretty mediocre at best. It wasn't horrible. But just had a weird taste. Maybe it was a bad day. Idk. But we won't be back. I hate to say that. Bcz this is just our experience. I'm sure other have had a great experience. I won't ever tell someone "don't eat there". Bcz they may like it. But again we won't be coming here again.

Carne asada burrito (no rice). I like rice just not in my burrito ‍ pineapple agua fresca

I ordered a carne asada burrito, no rice and their largest pina (pineapple) agua fresca. It was delish. The burrito was super packed it fell apart. It was packed with meat too not just the extras like other places I've been to. The service was excellent. She was very polite, helpful, and nice. The ambiance is Mex, Spanish music. The place is large, fits a good amount of people. It's not a new place but it was super clean, even the restroom was very clean. Kudos and thank you

This place is a diamond in the rough. Quite literally. We were struggling to find a restaurant and came across this one from Yelp. We were pleasantly surprised when we walked in. It is extremely spacious, colorful with a TON of personality. PLEASE DONT BE PUT OFF BY THE LOCATION, they deserve a shot. Trust me. The beer was cold (for my guy) I got a pina'nada and it was so delicious! We got the sope, Taco combo, ceviche, and my guy got a torta meal. Everything was amazing. The salsas were delicious, the meat was very good. The tacos were very small but we didn't go for the tacos. We will definitely be back The ONLY reason they get 4 stars is bc unfortunately the area has some bad passerby's that could definitely deter people with young children but give it a shot! You won't be disappointed. Not to mention it's extremely reasonable! Check out the menu prices I posted. They ask have an extensive list of protein options!

Crispy Hard Shell Tacos Combo with Ground Beef, and Large Fresh Lemonade
    Sarah P.

I recently tried this place on a visit to the area and found their crispy hard shell tacos to be outstanding...and quite different from the standard taco. I asked for them "ground beef" (which was an option), expecting a kind of ground hamburger beef. But this was not what came. Instead, it was a finely chopped steak-type beef, minced almost. But the curious thing is that it had a phenomenal taste that I have not encountered before and encourage all to try. It was almost tangy, and I had no idea how they achieved this or what was in it - but it was delicious. It was so good, I came back the next day and ordered the same thing-- and it came exactly the same way. With exactly the same tang to the beef that made every bite like an explosion of flavor to my palette. I can't wait to come back to this place when I visit the area next year. Aside from great food, staff was super friendly and welcoming, and the festive vibe of the dining room made me want to return immediately.

We ordered three different types of fries for the table but the garlic Parmesan was the main hit. I got the Santa Fe Cobb salad with the Tri Tip, thinking it would be more fire grilled meat. They basically topped the salad with cold Tri-Tip chunks which don't have a lot of flavor and looks uncooked (but not raw). I only ate a portion of the Santa Fe Cobb salad with the Tri-Tip. If I ever come in again, it's best to build your own 5 ingredient salad, which they allow you to do- so you can choose. We got the mac and cheese and wings which were good. Two people in our party ordered the Tri Tip sandwich with Cole slaw, and that appeared to be the better choice here. They have icecream which seemed to be popular for a lot of people stopping in. Still nice to be able to support a local business versus eating at a chain. Easy to get back onto the highway and journey on.

The asada tacos actually had decent flavor -- although the meat was a little on the salty side. Not a deal breaker, but noticeable. The chorizo taco? Honestly, tasted just like the kind you buy at any grocery store and cook at home -- nothing special at all. I was hoping for that rich, house-made taste, but nope. The chicharrón taco was probably the most disappointing -- it was basically a cuerito taco. No real meat, just soft skin, so not what I was expecting. But what really killed the experience for me was the salsa situation. They gave me just two small containers of salsa for everything. The red one was tasty, and the green one was basic but good -- but come on, two little salsas for 8 tacos and a burrito? No limes, no radishes, nothing to help bring the tacos together. We ended up trying to ration the salsa, and without enough, the tacos felt dry. Everyone knows a taco needs to have that salsa dripping down and a good squeeze of lime to really come alive -- otherwise, it's just meat on a tortilla. I'm giving it 3 stars because the asada tacos had potential. But the overall execution, especially the lack of salsa and sides, really brought the meal down. Probably won't be rushing back.

I went with my wife, kid and other family members hoping to try something new in Visalia, but…read morehonestly, the experience wasn't great from the start. I ordered the taco trio and beef flautas. The tacos came with a creamy guacamole-looking sauce that immediately made me suspicious because I'm allergic to eggs. Usually those creamy textures hide mayo or ranch, and for me that's not something I can gamble with. First thing--there was a DJ playing. It was loud. I get it, it's a vibe, but it's not exactly what I was expecting for a calm dinner. When we ordered, my wife specifically said she wanted a burrito with just beef, rice, and beans. The lady taking the order was rude right away and insisted it comes with cheese. We said fine, just add cheese then--four ingredients, nothing complicated. But when the burrito came out, it was a full-on wet burrito, covered in sauce that we definitely did NOT ask for. At the same time, my tacos showed up and that creamy sauce was sitting on top. I politely asked what was in it. She said, "just guacamole." I explained my allergy again, that I can't eat mayo, ranch, anything with eggs, that it's serious. She seemed annoyed and goes, "don't worry, it's just cream." That irritated me because cream is not guacamole and she still wasn't actually answering my question. When I asked her again more firmly, she finally took the tacos away without explaining anything. I then asked about the burrito (since we clearly said no sauce), and again--with attitude--she took that too. My sister ordered a three-taco combo and asked for just meat and cilantro. Pretty simple. Her tacos came with cilantro, onion, and radish. At that point it was clear they don't really listen to instructions. About 10 minutes later our corrected order came out, and unfortunately the flavor just wasn't there. The tacos were bland, the onions tasted old, and nothing really stood out. The asada had potential but everything else around it killed the flavor. The chips and salsa didn't help either--the salsa tasted like something store-bought with oregano added in as an afterthought. Then, about 15 minutes after that, they brought me my beef flautas. All I can say is: there were four of them and I left three on the plate. Completely flavorless and not worth eating. Overall, this place feels more like a bar where you go to grab drinks with friends--not a place to go if you actually want good Mexican food. Between the rude service, lack of attention to allergies, wrong orders, and disappointing flavors, it's not worth the trip for me.

The Hidden Gem of the Central Valley: A Taste of Denmark in Visalia…read moreIf you find yourself cruising down Highway 99 or heading toward the majestic Sequoias, there is a culinary "X" on the map you cannot afford to miss. Nestled in Visalia, Valhalla isn't trying to be a Michelin-starred temple of gastronomy and that's exactly why it's a masterpiece. As a food critic, I look for soul. I look for efficiency. As amateur food photographer/stylist, I look for that "honest plate." Valhalla hits the trifecta with a warm, "hygge" (Danish coziness) atmosphere that makes locals feel like family and travelers feel like they've finally found home. The Aesthetic: Rustic Hygge The vibe is "Elevated Roadside Charm." It's clean, bright, and unpretentious. The wood accents and subtle Danish motifs pay homage to the heritage of the Solvang-style roots without being kitschy. * Stylist's Note: The food here doesn't need tweezers or edible gold. It's all about the texture of a golden-brown crust and the vibrant contrast of a red lingonberry jam against a snowy dusting of powdered sugar. It looks exactly how you want comfort food to look: generous and real. The Menu: Scandinavian Roots Meet California Fresh The menu is a masterclass in "less is more." It honors Danish history while remaining approachable for the hungry traveler. Signature Dish, What Makes it Special Aebleskiver Spherical Danish pancakes, light as air, served with jam. The gold standard. Fluffy interior with a delicate crisp. The Viking Omelet Packed with savory proteins and local veggies. A powerhouse breakfast that fuels a hike through the Kings Canyon. Danish Sausage & Eggs Authentic, snappy sausages with a unique spice profile. A savory trip to Copenhagen on a single plate. Swedish/Danish Pancakes, Paper-thin, buttery, and melt-in-your-mouth. Better than your grandmother's (don't tell her). Why It Works (The Restaurateur's Perspective) Valhalla succeeds because it knows its identity. In a world of over-complicated fusion menus, they stick to strong roots. * Service: It's the kind of place where the coffee stays hot and the smiles are genuine. * Accessibility: The menu is easy to read, making it perfect for a quick stop-off for travelers or a Sunday tradition for families. * Quality: You can taste the heritage. They aren't cutting corners on the fats or the flours; they are honoring the recipes passed down through generations. The Verdict: Whether you're a local regular or a wanderer looking for a rest, Valhalla is a mandatory pit stop. It is a reminder that the best meals aren't always found in big cities, but in the small towns where history is still served on a plate.
