My son is disappointed in his haircut and I am angry. He showed Leslie clear photos of a simple cut, but the result looked nothing like what he asked for. The sides were too long, the proportions were wrong, and the style did not match the images at all. For sixty dollars, I expected a basic men's cut to be done correctly. He felt uncomfortable speaking up in the moment, so he paid and left, but he was very unhappy with the result. I do not care about a refund. I want accountability. The salon needs to know what happened so they can prevent this from happening to other clients. I will be calling the manager and plan to come in person the next time I am in Providence to explain what went wrong. Clients deserve to feel heard, and the final cut should match what they requested. The one good thing is that my son learned an important lesson. It is completely acceptable to speak up if the service is not what you asked for. If you are unhappy with a haircut, ask for a manager or request a stylist with more experience in men's cuts. My first visit to Ky was so great! Literally thought I found the salon I was looking for. Until my second visit. I asked for specific style of haircut I am guessing the stylist didn't understand the assignment even after showing couple pictures of styles. I booked an appointment on a recommendation after years of "okay" hair dressers. Jess was my stylist, she was knowledgeable, professional and overall fantastic. I don't think there are enough good things I can say about her. I committed to chopping at least 8 inches and went with a pixie cut, I've never tried before. Booked an appointment for my girlfriend for 11/3/23 with Sophia. We couldn't have made better choice, she was AMAZING!!! My girlfriend had long hair all her life and this was her first "big chop" and she was really nervous, and Sophia was incredible with being supportive and helping put her at ease. I really do not recommend this salon, have had very bad experiences here for highlights, especially for the price point they do not act like a high end salon. I went to get highlights refreshed earlier this month with pictures of exactly how I get my hair done and explained what I wanted. Always baby lights, very blended, but super concentrated in the front, and done so it will grow out well since I only get my hair highlighted every 4ish months. The highlights i received were chunky, not bright in the front and the stylist left too chunks on either side of my head which she did not consult me about (will attach photos). When I got my hair done I was bummed because it did not look how I wanted it to, and bleaching is very hard on hair so I did not want to get it redone, but finally decided to get it fixed after two weeks because my graduation is coming up and I don't want to graduate with botched hair. When I contacted them they were very rude and told me I should have come back in within the first few days, as if I was trying to get free highlights rather than just dreading getting my hair re-bleached by the place that messed it up in the first place. When I came in the stylist was incredibly hostile and made me feel the same way, I literally reiterated I would pay again I just wanted my hair fixed, and it felt like an incredibly unprofessional way to act. She made me feel like all my concerns about my hair were unwarranted despite me literally going to a different salon in prov, and having them confirm that my highlights were not baby lights/ blended nicely. I have been getting my hair highlighted for years at this point and I know what my hair should look like at this end of an appointment and this was not it. After this back and forth between us she just put some face framing foils in and refused to blend the other highlights more because she said it would look too solid. When I left the salon my front pieces were yellow. And I paid 190 + 40 tip both times for basically botched hair and being disrespected/ gaslighted. Literally never going back here read more

I had the best experience here! From out of town and getting my hair done for my brothers wedding. I had two back to back appointments for a blowout the night before and then updo the day of. My appointment day of was not showing up in the system which was not ideal but they fixed the issue completely- Naomi came in early to do my hair, they apologized and took complete ownership of the mistake and even gave me a discount, all while making me feel at ease. Naomi was amazing! I told her generally what I wanted and then let her run with it! It held up all night and I loved the way it looked- so fun and unique. I called around 1:45 to ask if they took walk-ins, the secretary set me up with an appointment for 2:30 with Morgan. I walked in and was pleasantly surprised with the place and it's atmosphere. Morgan was behind the desk with the secretary. Even though I arrived 10 minutes early, she took me right away. I haven't gone to the salon in a little over 2 years so this appointment was long overdue. I had a good idea of what I wanted but definitely needed a bit of encouragement when it came to shaving the side off, I had let it grow out for 3 years so I know hard it is to grow back. Morgan was really helpful and easy to talk to. I ended up going through with it and she managed to keep my hair at the length that I wanted while taking out most of the damage. After the blowout she added some curl and finished the side off with the 3 line design I was looking for. This is the best hair cut I've ever received. Parting my hair normally allows me to completely cover the side seamlessly. Living down the street is a plus but I'm definitely driving back down here during school. I came in for a consultation after my hair had been pretty botched from a different salon. KM Salon was super busy and booked up, but I was lucky enough to get squeezed in on the same day. Ky helped personally fix my hair and was really attentive strand by strand to fix the uneven bands left in my hair from a previous dye job. The roots aren't totally blended, so I'm a bit sad about that but they really performed some hair magic. All the staff were incredibly nice and attentive to all the customers. The inside of the salon is clean and stylish. I'm really thankful that Ky helped me correct my hair. It's a bit pricey, but you definitely get what you pay for in terms of quality, ambiance, and attention to detail. read more

Today I had a haircut with Jess and I couldn't praise her talent more! I have mid length hair, under my shoulders. I haven't visited an hair salon in more than a year due to Covid and it was my very first time at KY Michaels. I wanted my split ends trimmed and layers to add some volume on my thin hair. I showed Jessica a couple of pictures and she got it instantly. I felt so relaxed and at ease in her hands. They're currently not blow drying during Covid so Jess gave my hair texture by twisting and folding my strands and I learnt how to create nice waves. The final haircut looks so natural, it frames my face beautifully, and I got exactly what I hoped for. Plus, Jess is really sweet and chill. Good vibes all around. I'll be definitively back! I rarely (practically never) write reviews, but I have to for my recent visit to Ky Michaels salon and the amazing Sara. I've had long, boring, brown hair for a long time and was looking for something new and fun. I knew I wanted black hair on top and bright purple underneath. I wanted the purple mostly hidden when my hair is down, for my job, but a burst of bright, dark purple when my hair is swept to the side or pulled back. During my consultation with Sara we looked at pictures and talked about what I wanted and she totally got it. She was extremely flexible with scheduling and agreed to a 4:30pm appointment, knowing that they closed at 6pm and that this would take several hours. On the day of the appointment I was 10-15 minutes late and no one even batted an eye. Sara was so nice and accommodating the entire time. We did all of the lightening and coloring and then a cut. I told her that she could do whatever she wanted with the cut as long as I could still pull my hair back. She kept it mostly long with some layers and angling, and I LOVE it! And the color? Amazing and EXACTLY what I wanted and had in mind. Sara was so nice the entire time, even though we were there almost 3 hours (!!!) past closing. Also, she was almost more excited about my new color than I was, which is always a good sign :) It was pricey, but you absolutely get what you pay for. Sara was amazing, my hair is beautiful, and I will absolutely be going back for the maintenance and upkeep. read more

Matt Sedlak has been cutting my hair for at least 12 years. I leave the salon feeling amazing every time I walk in, even if it's just to say hi. The staff is kind, efficient and knowledgeable. I never mind waiting as the chairs are comfy, the folks at the front desk happily greet you and there's tea and coffee. Not recommended for Keratin treatments. The location and young hip atmosphere I think is why this salon is so popular. I waited more than a month for an appointment for a keratin treatment with one of their most experienced stylists. I have been getting keratin treatments 3-4 times a year for 20 years. As the stylist was applying the keratin I told her very politely she had missed areas and under treated other areas. She insisted that she had applied product throughly. Well after 3+ hours in a chair $420 payment my hair was frizzier than when I went into the salon because some strands had been treated while others had clearly not. The stylist didn't return my call. The owner eventually offered me a redo as long as I could come in within 2 weeks. Retreating partially treated hair so soon would result in breakage. They simple do not know how to do keratin treatments well. So unless you have super fine, thin hair do not spend the time and money here. read more

Best stylist I have ever been to! Ky can always make my hair look great no matter what. I'm so glad that I discovered this old childhood friend as a stylist just under 7 years ago. Many years of unhappy hair cuts and styles are no longer a worry with Ky. The salon is beautiful, the staff is friendly and courteous, and Ky works fast! I'm usually in and out in an hour or so, for a cut, color and blow out. You won't see stylists here who snip once with the scissors then talk for 5 minutes before cutting again. I did a balayage for the first time and am so pleased! I went to have my hair cut twice at Ky Michaels. Both times, Jessica cut my hair. She did a good job, my hair looked fine I guess, but after some thought I don't think I'll be going back. Here's why: These cuts are expensive. Just a women's cut, no color or anything, starts at $50, and depends on who cuts your hair. After tip you could easily pay $60-$80. (Again, depending on who is cutting your hair, and what "level" they are. This information doesn't appear to be easily accessible online, by the way, so maybe you could be paying more than $80.) You are definitely paying for a salon experience. To me, that means feeling pampered and relaxed, in addition to getting a nice haircut. My haircut was fine I guess -- though I've definitely had better. The first time she did my hair, we chatted about moving to Rhode Island after being out west for a year. She made a few comments about how westerners "love too many layers in their cuts." She seemed perplexed by how my hair had been cut in the past. Okay fine, but I didn't think it needed to be that big of a deal. By the end of it I basically felt embarrassed by my hair, and I don't think that's great service. What's more, I didn't walk out of the salon feeling my hair looked any better than it did before! She did say it would take two cuts to get rid of the "oddly placed" layers, so I thought I'd give it another try. Eight weeks later I returned for another cut. This time, Jessica seemed visibly upset. I was her first appointment, so I thought maybe she was just having a rough morning. However, throughout the cut she barely talked to me. What's more, she seemed extremely frustrated by my hair. She kept pulling back hair to check on length, then she would look really frustrated and start cutting more, and checking, and cutting more, and checking. It was really unsettling. I get that sometimes people have bad days. Again, by the end it looked fine, but I wasn't blown away. Plus, who wants to pay a lot to feel stressed and embarrassed by their hair? Not me. I thought about giving it one more try, but was avoiding another appointment. Over the holidays we were in Key West, FL, and I walked into a random place and had my hair cut. It was reasonably priced (more like $30 with tip), it was very pleasant and relaxing, and my hair looked fantastic! I can't go back regularly to Key West to get my hair done, but I am definitely going to find a new place in Providence. read more

I drafted this review then waited one more day before I posted it. Praying for a miracle. It pains me to write this review. It truly does. Because I wanted to fall in love. Madly, deeply, in love. I had broken up with my last stylist over too much warmth, not enough processing time, not enough blonde and too many second chances. I was tired. Tired of the brassiness, tired of the hot roots, tired of the sloppy foils, tired of choppy, uneven layers. I just wanted to find the One. I searched for my perfect match, high and low. Then I came across Ky Michaels Salon's nearly perfect 5 stars. My fellow Yelpers shared wonderful experiences of achieving the hair of their dreams. So I dove head first in to the salon website, reading every stylist's bio, line by line. Studying photos of their work. Then I came across a familiar name & face. It was her. I had long regretted not taking a spin in her chair many years ago, choosing another's instead, only to have my hair abused and left an unflattering shade of yellow. Time had healed my locks and I was ready to highlight them once again. Had fate led me to her? Was she the One I'd been searching for? I shared my tales of woe as she listened intently. She asked me questions, putting my mind at ease. I proclaimed my trust and full confidence in her. The wine flowed as the sounds of laughter mingled with the roar of the hairdriers. The salon was a bustling scene that Saturday but she made me feel like the most important girl in the joint. I smiled widely as I spun around in my chair to see the final product. That's when I first noticed it; the overly warm pieces to the right and left of my part. I was smitten with my cut and style and with her. She's one of the most sought after stylists around; who was I to question her work? I told myself it was probably just the lighting or that it was from product. I pushed the uneasy feelings down and told myself I was being too picky; that no one was perfect. The next day I visited a walk-in salon for an up-do. As the stylist worked, she asked me if I was due for color service pointing out a thick swath of dark roots. My defenses instantly shot up. Who was this chain store stylist to question my girl's work? My girl had more talent in her pinky finger than this nay-saying purveyor of Sunday bang trims! The feelings I had pushed down the day before began to rise again. This time I told myself that I had only gotten a partial foil so of course there would be pieces of regrowth that my girl hadn't touched. A week had passed since our first meeting when I finally decided it was time. I couldn't go any longer. My hair had to be washed. As I began to comb the leave-in conditioner through, I began to see that all those warm pieces and dark spots were worse than I imagined, especially now that some of the precious toner had rinsed away. I phoned the salon, pleading my case with the receptionist and even offering to come in 3 days later. She curtly shot down my every suggestion but assured me she'd talk to my girl. Then I waited. I waited for a call back from my girl or the receptionist or someone. Four long days passed. Out of desperation, I called again, begging the receptionist to find a way to get me back to my girl's color station. She stonewalled me with midweek morning and afternoon appointments despite my stressing that I could only do evenings or weekends, repeating the standard line about full schedules and waiting lists. She couldn't set up a second date until March, put me back in my girl's chair a full month after our initial meeting. It was too late; my hair would be too far gone. I had to cut my losses and say goodbye. I told the receptionist I would just have to go somewhere else. And that was that. I thought she was the One. But I was obviously just another head of hair in her chair. She didn't apologize or offer any solutions to keep our relationship alive. Part of me wonders if she ever got my messages from the impatient receptionist. But alas, somethings just aren't meant to be. So I continue my search for the One. read more

Earlier this week I accepted a friend's offer of "a tiny trim" while she was at my house cutting the mister's hair (note: she is a wonderful friend and she does a wonderful job with his hair, I swear). I asked her for an eensy clean-up of my bangs and a little little bit off the rest of it 'cause I'm trying my damnedest to grow it out (I want mermaid hair like whoa). Unfortunately, my dear sweet friend cut a bit more than I'd asked (okay, a lot more). AKA, if I were the kind of person who cried about her hair I'd've been a mess. After re-surveying the cut the next morning I leapt over to Yelp for a recommendation of an amazing fixer-upper. Ky Michaels Salon had such promising reviews, so I took a chance and called. He said they'd be able to fit me in just two short days later and promised I'd be happy with the new cut. I suffered in silence for 48 hours (well, mostly silence. I have a feeling the mister would disagree - I miiiiight've whined a tiiiiiiny bit) until my appointment. It was a risk, I admit - going to a new salon, meeting a new stylist, maybe having to make small talk for the entire appointment (see my review of Revive Hair Studio in Boston) - but ultimately it paid off! The salon is lovely. Clean, comfortable, and classy. The very sweet stylist, Daniele Bartomioli, repaired all the damage quickly and expertly. She recommended that I adjust my part slightly until my poor, poor bangs grow back out a bit, which was an inspired suggestion. We had plenty to talk about 'cause this is Rhode Island and OF COURSE she went to high school with my little brother (gossip tiiiiiiiiiime!!!). Even though my hair's still shorter than I wanted it (not her fault!), I'm actually really into it now and I'm having an easier time letting go of my grief over losing months of mermaid-hair growth. I am always happy with my visits to Ky Michaels. Danielle always listens to what I want and is great at giving me either an edgy or a conservative look (depending on what's going on in my life at the time). I actually don't come as often as I should because the cuts grow out so well that I don't feel like I have to! It is very easy to get an appointment, sometimes even the same day but always within one or two salon business days. Prices are reasonable ($40-$60 per cut depending on the stylist's experience). If you 'like' the salon on facebook you can get 20% of a haircut. read more
