If you're a brunette who has stubborn, brassy hair and need color correction, I highly recommend V Salon! About a year ago, I had the worst experience with a hair stylist who claimed to be a color specialist. I came in for color correction to get all the brassiness out. She assured me that achieving an ash brown hair color was doable. $320 and 2 days later (a total of over 6 hours), the result was a nightmarish shade of dark blue at the bottom half and brass on top. She blamed her incompetence on my difficult "Asian hair". This was the first and only time I cried after a " professional" hair treatment. Afterwards, I started dyeing my own hair, which looks way better than her work, but still couldn't get rid of the brass. I realized that my entire hair needed to be bleached by an expert and couldn't do it myself, so I did some research and found V Salon. I specifically chose V Salon because one happy Yelp reviewer recommended it for Asian hair. Because of the horrible experience in the past, I was a bit nervous and skeptical. But when Ben mentioned that my hair needed to be bleached and warned me of the damage it will cause during the initial consultation, I sensed he knew what he was doing. He consulted with me every step of the way to make sure I agree with possible outcomes. He even took a few strands of my hair and dyed it to to show me a sample before he colored my entire head. The sample looked too dark and gray, so I asked for a lighter ash brown color and wondered if a little gray or blue would counter the orange undertones. Not sure if he made the actual adjustments, but the overall job was fabulous upon completion! No more brass!!! Take a look at the amazing before and after photos. Will be coming back for a layered hair cut to remove the frayed and damaged ends. Can't wait to see it! Note: As of March 2021, V Salon is only accepting cash. Vincent said their machine was down. Luckily, I just went to the ATM the other day. (A lot of businesses in RI prefer cash, for some reason.) Prices are on the higher end. My bleach and color treatment costs $250, without a haircut. Update: Ben's hair cutting techniques are comparable to the expensive hair salons inside Copley Plaza in Boston that charge $100+ (crazy) but more affordable at only $37 for medium long hair. I wanted to get a haircut and dye my hair on Monday. Most salons are usually closed. Their response time was super fast, and I had an appointment that same day in the afternoon. I wanted to do a balayage and trim my hair. Mr. Kallen was super sweet and suggested something else. Since my hair was short, it would not look as good, and he also wanted to fix my layers so that they framed my face better. The communication was excellent, and they treated me very well. This is the third salon I have tried at Providence, the first where I had a pleasant conversation. We both found what was best for my hair. I had beautiful copper brown hair and a cut that framed my face better. They even had an ear cover and a face cover when they dyed my hair, which was new to me. I was super late to my original appointment because I was stuck in traffic but Ben (the owner) was extremely patient. It was my first time here and I was really impressed with how quickly Ben got me in (I called in to make an appointment). I got the "smoothing treatment" and a hair trim. The smoothing treatment I believe is similar, or the same as the keratin treatment. I have had these done before and Ben did a great job and I did not feel any burning sensations as I have had before with other keratin treatments. The transformation has been wonderful! I have very coarse color treated hair and post treatment my hair is silky soft. I just washed it per the instructions of waiting 48 hours and it is nice and smooth. I speak conversational Cantonese but no mandarin and was able to communicate with Ben. They also speak some English here too. I would definitely come back! read more

I have been going to next door for a hair cut for about 7 years now. When I was walking pass this salon last month I was surprised to see this place was packed with happy Asian people, and colorful hairs. so I went in to see what the hype is all about. First, he, the owner who goes by the name Ben told me the men's hair cut is 21 dollars which is not bad and he start me off with a relaxing shampooed head message. I was seated at a very comfortable barber table after the head wash. He ask me some questions about how I liked my hair to be cut, and he was very nice about it because I am very specific about my hair style. There is something special about him that how he cuts hair. He barely uses clippers. He mostly used scissors. You know you are getting your money worth. He takes his time. I was out in about 45 minutes and had a shampoo hair wash after the hair cut. I went in a couple weeks ago for a spiral perm. I drove an hour to get here because there aren't any salons for Asian hair in my area, and I was so impressed. They knew exactly what I wanted with a couple pictures I had and made sure to explain what they're doing at each step of the process. Very delighted to finally find a Asian salon in RI!! I went after my aunt had Japanese hair straightening done here and was a happy customer. My stylist mostly speaks mandarin (which i can understand mostly and speak little), but did his best to communicate with me, and listened very well. He did everything i asked for, and carefully checked with me every step of the way. He did not push his idea like most other stylist did, and he explained things to me to get my ok before he did it. My Asian hair is medium length, dry, wavy, coarse, super thick, and previously dyed. I messaged V salon in Yelp for a full perm (small to medium curls). Within 3 minutes, Ben replied that I could come in that same day, within 2.5 hours notice. The salon was in a nice area of Providence and easy to park on the street. Ben was a warm, so nice, and assessed my hair, explaining what's realistic. I went ahead with the perm. It took about 1.5 hrs. with shampoo and some trimming for $220. Ben and his assistant were very patient and gentle with my hair, explaining the process every step and checking if I was doing OK. The end result was quite good. I went home with wet hair but Ben said to contact him if I had further questions. After my hair dried, I noticed some strands that did not curl. This was not Ben's fault, but due to previously processed hair. The next day, I contacted Ben to see if this can be improved. Again, he responded immediately and was so understanding. Not once did he argue nor blame the condition of my hair nor go into an "I told you so" mode. He was super classy not making me feel bad. That's true customer service!! He booked my appt. at my earliest convenience and went above and beyond improving my perm. Not just the few parts that did not take but even went over my entire head to make the overall curls look better. Took over an hour! All he cared about was that I was totally happy and did not charge me anything extra. Now, I LOVE my new perm. It looks PERFECT. Thank you BEN and his assistant, You are the BEST, V Salon! The chair at the washing station was very comfortable and I enjoyed the wash. My haircut was done beautifully and quickly, and he made sure to check in on my happiness throughout the process. He had wonderful attention to detail and was able to adapt my reference photo and preferences perfectly to my hair. The service was expert, but also quick-I was in the salon for just under an hour total, and the cut only cost $37 before tip. Another rave review for V Salon in Providence-- this time for a spectacular digital perm. I used to use a flat iron (ironically) to get loose waves or just large curls, and could only achieve this look after not washing my hair for a few days, or leaving it in a bun or french twist for a long time. The digital perm I got has effectively given me the *perfect* hair style...permanently (well, at least for a year!) I have never been happier about my hair style; I *actually* wake up with it looking like this. I had been reading about digital perms and thinking about it for a while. I was a bit nervous at first-- a lot of fancy salons and instagram photos were showing results of digital perms that looked either too fake (the curls are too tight, or too even or just a little too unnatural looking) or looked like nothing was done. I was also nervous about having a treatment done-- I have never highlighted, permed, or done anything "serious" to my hair before and was worried that a perm would damage it. Ben anticipated all of these worries and walked me through the process of what he would do-- he set the curlers in a way that was neither too tight nor too loose, and that they would be set "unevenly" so some parts of my hair would be wavier than others, giving it a more natural "beach waves" look. He also told me that the particular perm products that they use are really high-quality Korean imports, and that they wouldn't damage or alter the texture of my hair. And as a bonus-- I wouldn't need to change my shampoo, conditioner, or anything! The whole process took about 90 minutes start to finish. Ben and his work partner are really fast, really precise, and told me everything that was going on so I knew what to expect. By the time I got home and my hair dried, I saw the results of Ben's artistry-- gorgeous, voluminous, natural-looking waves, and my hair texture hadn't changed one bit (a little chemical smell, but that's faded). All this is to say I couldn't be happier with the results, and I get so many compliments about my hair these days. If you're thinking about a digital perm, this is the place to do it! read more
