The first stylist I tried to book with got sick and had to cancel but texted me directly to let me know. So I rebooked and went to Richard. Sorry Nicholas. I was in and taken to the chair promptly, quick wash and ready to go. Richard commented that my hair had a wave to it and I was like "that's just cause it's up in the bun all day" but no - my hair apparently can get a nice wavy curl to it, Richard recommended styling products and methods, talked me through everything he was doing - the length was chosen between us both and meant to make the most of my thin hair and cut was meant to grow out well. He asked me questions about what I liked and didn't like about my hair and definitely was listening. He also chatted me up in the chair - conversation was easy. He had a great welcoming vibe. Price was solid. I definitely will go back - and like I always say I will try and make this more of a habit. But then again, I know myself well enough to know it might be a full year before I'm getting another haircut. But Richard listened when I said I'm terrible at cutting my hair regularly and I feel like I've been well set up with what I left with. read more

I don't like to leave an unfavorable review but this truly warranted it. I made a hair appointment for Saturday in advantage. I watch my grandson on Saturdays so I made arrangements for a babysitter. I received a text message stating Nicholas had a cancellation and if I wanted to arrive earlier than my 3:30 appointment. Well I actually arrived there at 2:30 just to be told they had to cancel my appointment. If this is how they do business and have such little respect and regard for a customers, I would rather go elsewhere as this poor behavior does not inspire trustworthiness. Do better!! read more

My hairdresser was nice but I only wanted a quick even cut not a bunch of upcharges like shampoo and blow out I never asked for and was pressured into and ended up paying $70+ for the simplest cut and I wouldn't have even left a review but after inspection the cut was so uneven! she spent more time trying to chat and do a blowout than the actual cut. Barely made sure it was even on both sides so now there is chunks of hair that are uneven. I got better service at super cuts for half the price. At least super cuts made sure it was even. And then decided to pressure me into taking pictures which I was super uncomfortable with but I just wanted to get out. I'm too much of a people pleaser to say much but like the blow out didn't even last the night. I really wish I went somewhere else. Price read more

I swear by this place and the Ouidad curly hair cut! I found this place by chance and I am so happy I did! Richard is the only on in the area certified to give this special hair cut for curly haired people like myself and it's amazing. The technique is so cool to watch and totally customized for curly haired people. I have had a lot of awful haircuts in my life and it's understandable because cutting curly hair is SO far from the same as cutting straight hair. I used to come here to see Rachael and she's super sweet and great with hair. I usually would have her dye my hair (blonde foil highlights and it always came out looking like an ad out of a magazine. I also had Rachel do my eyelashes for about a year and she was great with these as well. She was also super sweet and we always had something to talk about! I haven't been back in a few years and I'm not sure if Rachel even works there anymore but the ambiance and atmosphere of this salon was great as well. I have fine, curly hair that can be styled both curly and straight. Because of this, I need a very particular hair cut: a cut that looks good BOTH straight and curly and gives me volume. I found out Jon Richard Salon offers 20% off your first appointment (check their website!!!). After reading reviews online elsewhere, I decided to make an appointment with Sheila. LOVE Sheila! She honestly gave me the best cut I've ever had. She gave my fine hair shape and volume, and my new color is natural but fun. She also helpfully answered all my questions about my hair and gave me tips on what products to buy. What was great, too, she didn't push me to buy from the salon. She recommended a cheap brush and dryer on Amazon, even! And I totally bought them and love it. My only gripe would be the price tag: my partial weave and cut was $115 even AFTER the discount. I am actually wondering if they didn't include the discount in my final total, because I had called ahead of time and was quoted a lower price. Ladies and gentlemen, always ask for a receipt! I have been going to Richard for several years. Simply put, you will get a Boston level precision cut (and experience) for half the price here. The salon is really neat inside in addition to being very clean. Have always been accommodated on short notice too. I found it kind of funny that all the bad reviews on here are from people with Groupons...take it from someone who has been a Yelp Elite and is not just making a profile to leave a single review about a deal they were not happy with. Ok... So I decided to give this place another chance.... I called to make an appointment mentioning I had a Groupon for a haircut (all I wanted was just a blow-dry, which according to their prices was twice as expensive than my Groupon). They told me to go in and that there were any problems. So I was pretty impressed considering I called at noon and they were able to give me an appointment at 5pm same day. Update time! 2 years later, and I'm still a happy client. Richard has been my stylist since 2013, and has taken me from long hair, to Audrey-inspired short looks, to the infamous Lena Dunham pixie, and back to shoulder-length. Every transition has been perfect---while pixie grow-out is a truly a test of one's patience (and bobby pin MacGyver-ing!), I've never been sent from the salon with a less-than-perfect style. What I appreciate most is the forethought that goes into Richard's work. He knows that, between my 24 hr gym-hair-don't-care philosophy and hectic schedule, simplicity is key, and always manages to create a look that is fresh, polished, and lasts through my 10-12 week breaks between appointments. The rest of the staff is lovely, as well, and so accommodating. From booking changes, to the occasional free cupcake, to the fact that I'm greeted warmly and can expect consistency regardless of the stylist, JR Salon gets my vote AND my recommendation to everyone I know. read more

This was a nice small salon. We are new to the Cranston area and purchased a few Groupons to try this place out. The reception staff was excellent and our stylist was excellent. I received a great cut, color and style. My other half received the best haircut in a while. I am very pleased with the richness of the color and my stylist seemed extremely knowledgeable. They are a bit more pricey than some of the other salon prices we have seen online for basic services. If their waxing and spray tan prices were a wee bit lower, I would be more inclined to get everything done there vs. running to different locations to get different things done. I would have given them 5 stars if they had better parking and prices were about $5-10 dollars lower on certain services. They have very limited parking in the back after 5PM. I had to park my Jaguar in the Burger King parking lot with a bunch of thugs hanging out and looking us up and down. This made me kind of nervous. Other than that, it was a good experience. Update: I called back to get a quote for highlights on the phone. They could not give me this and said they did not have a set price and that I would have to come in for the service to see how much it would be. I found this to be curious and asked the receptionist if she was sure as every other place was able to tell me via the phone. She confirmed, this was the way they run things there. This does not make me so keen to want to go back. Nice people, but I am not going to waste my time or anyone else to go through all the trouble to go there and sit in a chair to find out I have to walk out if the hair appointment will be more than my car payment. There are lots of options in Cranston and with the lack of parking this did not impress me so I have downgraded it to 3 stars. read more

One of the most disappointing services I've had with a stylist and color "expert". I was explicit: shape my hair, don't take off length. I repeated myself a few times, to no avail emphasizing how slowly my hair grows. Snip snip snip--3 inches at least, gone. Then the color specialist: I told her and she even repeated--just a few highlights so it pops--not my whole head. She did so much I looked like a redhead. To her credit when I told her I was unhappy she added back in my natural color but I was there for 4 hours, spent over $250 and my hair is too short and sorta colored how I want it. They're friendly people who don't know how to listen to a customer--or at least not this one. I had heard such good things. Oh well, not going back. Very dissatisfied. At least hair grows back, but I have I retreated hair and lost my patient pandemic growth. Grrrrr. read more

Initially walking into the salon I was greeted with a very professional looking environment that was fresh and clean. The receptionist at the desk was cheerful and immediately helped me when I walked in! They were able to set me up for a walk-in appointment without any issue and I only waited 5 minutes but they will always recommend to make an appointment before hand!! My stylist was Bran or Brandan and I have to say that he is a "jack-of-all-trades" kind of guy! He was able to give me my best haircut and has consistently given me quality haircuts and colors since I started going to him! The first time He cut my hair he made it super comfortable because getting your haircut from a new stylist is always nerve-racking. He is immensely knowledgeable about his profession and knows a lot of great tips to keeping my hair looking it's best without forcing product into my hands. Very understanding about what kind of haircut I'm actually looking for! He knows how to do great skin-fades and layering. I have recommended multiple family members and friends to Bran to get their hair cut, styled or colored and they have made this salon their #1 salon. With this salon being in the center of Warwick and Providence, it is favorable as well for me because I don't have to travel downtown to get a quality haircut and it's easy to get to! Also it is super easy to set up an appointment with any of their professional stylists. All their stylists want you to have the hairstyle you want which I can appreciate thoroughly. I initially came here to use a Groupon that I had purchased. I was scheduled to see Taylor. I am currently growing out my hair and needed someone who was experienced in short hair . I needed to tame the mess I had on my head and she was the right person for the job. We spoke and decided to transform my mess into a pixie cut. She said it would take a little bit of time to get the exact look just because my hair was much shorter. She cleaned it up and I have recently been back. It's looking great thanks to Taylor. I was treated to a manicure and pedicure by a dear friend, for my birthday. But I never in a million years could have been prepared for the pampering I was in for. First up a pedicure by Nicole. Fantastically relaxing, she worked miracles on my tired feet. Then a gel manicure by Claire. Claire freehand painted the design on my nails on the fly. She jazzed my fingers up! I hope I'm able to share pictures of the phenomenal job. Claire is truly a nail artist who you can tell lives her job. This salon is a breath of fresh air. When I spoke to the owner to praise the experience, he was thrilled and yet told me...he's part of the team rather than the boss. Class act. No ego in this salon, just top notch service. I've been here twice. My first appointment was for a cut only and Danielle was my stylist. She was awesome. The cut was awesome. I loved it! Danielle made this salon worthy of 5 stars! At the time I was living in Ohio and traveling to Providence often to visit my now husband. The first appointment with Danielle was in August and I wasn't coming back to Providence until December that year. She gave me her card and we planned to do another cut plus a color in December. When I returned and called to make an appointment she wasn't available when I needed to get in, so I made an appointment with another stylist. Okay- so here's how the 2nd visit went: I arrived, waited a sec, then was led up these STEEP stairs (with no hand rail) to the upper salon. The girl who colored my hair told me that she only had time for the color and when she was done I would go see Jon for the cut. (Sorry yelpers, I forgot her name) Anyway, the color was eh, I hardly noticed the highlights I had requested. Also, I only requested a parcial highlight and she didn't listen and did my entire head, so I had to pay more than I had planned. She was friendly, but not overly nice, so I didn't really feel that comfortable in her chair. When my color was done, she shuffled me back down the steep stairs ( I mention these because I have a slight issue with balance and PWD's or the elderly might have trouble getting up and down these without proper assistance) to Jon. He was super chatty and nice. The cut was okay. I didn't hate it or anything, but I didn't leave there with the confidence that Danielle inspired. I like this place, and in a pinch I would go back, but I am still looking for a salon that has an entire staff that is quality. read more

I am so disappointed with my visit to Jon Richard salon that I am shaking. I purchased a $40 groupon (apparently my first mistake) for a "cut, style, and single-process color". I made the appointment for the next day making sure to tell them I had the groupon and would like a cut and color... they were very accommodating and had a lot of openings available which was great. When I arrived the staff were very pleasant and I didn't have to wait very long. My stylist was Allison, and when I told her about the groupon and what I wanted to have done ( a very slight trim and to go a few shades darker than my natural hair color) she told me that unfortunately the groupon can be a bit misleading and "single process color" actually only means a "root touch up".... well my hair is not dyed and I didn't need a root touch up so I told her to just go ahead with the trim. She said that for $55 more I could get the all-over color that I wanted which I found to be a little steep so I said no thank you. Allison was super sweet and apologetic about this and offered me a deep conditioning treatment instead of the "single process color". I really didn't even want the conditioning treatment because I have greasy hair as it is and my hair is super silky already. But I said OK because at least that way I could feel like I was getting my moneys worth... kind of.... Anyways 2 and a half hours later my hair looks almost identical to how it did before the appointment... except for all this gunk in it that actually makes it look dirtier! Allison did her best and was extremely sweet and I tipped her well because it was not her fault that the groupon was so misleading. nevertheless I am beyond pissed. I feel like I wasted my time and money and was taken advantage of. I have NEVER in my life heard of a "single process color" being a "root touch up". Everyone knows that a single process color is a single all-over hair dye. I paid over 50 dollars for a simple trim that I could have gotten at Supercuts for 15 bucks and 10 minutes of my time. I've been getting my hair cut by Jon since I was in high school (so...roughly 15 years). I have pretty light, thick hair which I always had an issue with other people butchering in the past. Always happy when I leave here, though. Prices are very resonable. The staff is always nice (and nice to look at), and they have their own product line now. I use the gel and yeah it costs $20 a tube but it holds incredibly well!! It even holds the following day for a slightly messy "bed head" look (if you like that...and, not gonna lie, I think I can rock). It also smells pretty good. read more

I recently had my very curly hair cut by Liz in the EG Salon and I love it! The salon is gorgeous. It has a very upscale look but the staff was very friendly and pleasant. Liz washed and conditioned my hair without tangling it into a big mess. I love that she used ouidad products on my hair. She did exactly what I wanted even though I didn't describe it very well. My experience was different then the previous reviews. I purchased a groupon for 2 shellac manicures. I just had the first manicure and Jamie was awesome. I wanted a very specific design that I had a picture of and she replicated it perfectly. I like that the nail area is private and away from the noise of dryers, etc. Jamie and the manicure get 5 stars for sure, the only reason I gave it a 4 overall was because the time availability wasn't great. I found this place after buying a Groupon for 2 shellac manicures. I was very pleased. It is clean, appointments are seen on time, and the woman who did my manicure was very thorough. She did a very nice job, it was my first time getting a shellac and she offered quite a bit of guidance. Since then I went to another salon and realized how good she really was! Danielle has been doing my hair for a little over 2 years and I coudn't be happier. When I go in for my appointments I am her main focus and my color is wonderful. She does hi-lites and low-lites along with a cut. I receive more compliments than ever before. If you are looking for a new stylist you should definately book an appt. with Danielle. I get compliments on my hair all the time--and I owe it to my stylist, Sheila, at the Jon Richard Salon. She is amazing at what she does, and I am always satisfied. Almost all of my friends (and my mom and my sister) now all go to her as well! When your hair consistently looks so good that your friends, family, and co-workers follow you to your stylist, that's a sign of talent! And she doesn't discriminate, her men's cuts are also top-notch (my boyfriend, brother, and male friends go to her for a cut faithfully). The salon is centrally located, and is comfortable inside, with a simplistically modern touch. They even just came out with their own personalized line of products! Oh--and take this advice from a pasty-white, sensitive-skinned Irish girl: if you are looking for an even spray tan for your next event, Laura is the girl to see! Terrible. I go in to change the color of my hair to a reddish brown color. I LOVE the color in the swatch book, but the stylist says she thinks it won't look good on me. I thank hr for her opinion but I insist on the color. So she gives me brown hair. Says I will love it, but guess what? I DONT!!! I understand you go to stylist school and spend big bucks to learn how to do what I need done to my hair, but these stylists don't realize that this is MY hair, and if I want it done a certain way, thats how I want it done!
