After getting several terrible haircuts back to back at Barber shops in the area, I decided I would suck it up and try a Salon... Glad I did. I believe the Gentleman's name was Steve, I didn't quite catch it but wow did he do a great job. I have difficult hair, it's very soft, fine and there's a lot of it. Cut it wrong and it sticks up in 15 different places. For once I don't have to use product to glue everything into a shape. One of the worst parts about moving to a new area for me is finding a barber, and the best one in the area in my eyes works here (he's obviously not a barber, he's a hair stylist 100%, but you get what I'm trying to say). When it came time to pay, I asked what the damage was, and he said "$27." I was expecting at least 50 if not 100+, obviously left a 150% tip. I'll be back for sure... I made an appointment here after Scott was highly recommended by a co-worker and he did not disappoint. If you're looking for a high end salon this is not the place. But if you are looking for experience, technique and a haircut you'll love within a budget this is definitely the place for you! I have really LONG hair and Scott took the time to hear my concerns and wants. I grow my hair to donate, so needed it cleaned up, but to keep as much length as possible for now. He trimmed, layered and made it look like i hadn't been neglecting it for months.. haha He took extra care with drying it so I wouldn't freeze in the subzero temps. I plan to go back to him for my big chop in the summer and will post pictures then!! read more

Homegirl suggests you hire a travel agent because this review is going to be a trip. Homegirl had just gone through a break up. Yo girl knew she wasn't the problem, it was that mess of a man. Mhmmmm. Homegirl isn't going to say she was feeling low, but rather feeling the change of being a single woman again out in these streets. She wanted to let her mane free like the vivacious, wild horse that she is but first she needed a trim. Yo girl didn't have to go to beauty school to learn how to look this good. She is as equally talented as she is good looking. Paul Mitchell asked for her hand in marriage many moons ago but yo girl couldn't stand the thought of having her last name be a first name. "Homegirl Mitchell? " Not classy. Anywho, homegirl has been doing just fine trimming her tresses but these new vitamins got her looking like a black haired rapunzel. It was simply too long to trim herself. Homegirl was making her way down town and just said, "what the heck. Anyone can do a trim, I'll just go here". This was undoubtedly the worst decision Homegirl has ever made, worse even than her decision to get a tribal band tat. Yo girl walked in, and there was one hair dresser. No line, and she's sat me right away. Yo girl got her hair all brushed forward obstructing her view and suddenly a cherry scent tickles her nose. She looks up and discovers a lollipop smacking from one cheek to the next, gracing her hair dressers lips. As if it was the day after Halloween. Homegirl had lost her mind. She blacked out with her eyes opened. Her hair had begun being snipped and 15 minutes later, she looked up, astonished. She walked in as homegirl, walked out lookin like John Lennon. Homegirls cried every day for a week straight. She was gettin Kleenex delivered because she could not be seen in public. Homegirl went from long hair, to lookin like she don't care. She thought she looked like a boy. And don't get her wrong, she looked like a cute boy, but none-the-less, her pronouns are queen, your royal highness and, your majesty. Homegirl truly was distraught. Her hair had been made far too short and her experience was very unprofessional. Complaining about other staff members and eating pop rocks was an experience homegirl can not condone. Fortunately, these vitamins be going straight to her scalp, because after not cutting her hair for sometime, she once again has locks of worthy of love. She can once again bear the public eye. You can catch homegirl in the city streets with her hair looking like ocean waves, and her pumps on tight. Because like homegirl always says, the higher the heel, the closer to God. Amen. read more

Deciding last minute that I could not possibly stand the length of my hair for another minute prior to a summer camping trip, I called salon after salon asking for an appointment that could not be had. My only other option given the hour and my time frame was an establishment that took walk-ins... acknowledging that I would likely have to wait for service somewhere, I found Running With Scissors. Conveniently located on Route 44, Running With Scissors is open every day but Sunday. Upon entering, I was greeted by a waiting area full of customers young and old. Approximately 5 stylists had people in chairs, scissors a'clipping and blow dryers a'running. I was immediately greeted but warned the wait was an hour. I put my name in and promised to come back within that time for my haircut. On returning, there was initial confusion about my "appointment". I explained that I put my name in an hour before but only when the woman who took my information heard what was going on, was my presence on the list acknowledged. Unfortunately, it didn't seem to have much bearing on my wait. I sat down, watched everyone currently in the waiting area get seated before me, then 30 minutes later, was finally taken for my cut. Whats the point in putting my name in when I'm gonna be last on the list anyways on my return? During my wait, I was witness to many things. Employees lounging around in wait for their late appointments, plumes of hair drifting across the floor into the waiting area, and one openly annoyed stylist attempting to mop it all up. Certainly not the most relaxing or comfortable of environments, but certainly indicative of the crazy busy-ness this salon seemingly encounters at times. On finally being called upon, Kayla took care of my haircut. If I could give separate ratings, I would give her a full 5 stars! She was extremely personable, proficient at exploring my needs with a new style, and was genuinely interested in our conversation. I got exactly what I asked for and was sporting a new shorter and more manageable look for the summer to come in no time! Unless confronted with similar circumstances, it is not likely I would return. The chaos of this establishment was infectiously anxiety-provoking. Despite its advertised ability to take walk-ins, I felt as though having an appointment would have been the preferred route here. As my rating indicates, I have experienced better. This is a very practical, nice, and efficient place.I would recommend this place, if you're looking to get it done quickly (my cut took 30 minutes). I'd come here again, and am very happy with my cut. I had a great cut experience with Tracey, and she's been cutting hair for 14 years. This is not the high-end $80+ cuts with "celebrity stylists," where you get the services and full salon experience (people fawning over you, making you tea and free snacks.) At Running with Scissors, for $20-25 you get a good cut and style, which is great, and as far as not-supercuts go, this place is pretty good. You get what you pay for, and they take pride in their work and cleanliness. One nice thing about this place is that they have a lot of really good hair picturebooks in the waiting area, so I was able to point to the two pictures I liked and describe what I wanted easily. read more

I go here every few months to get my haircut. It's in Seekonk MA and I live in Cambridge so it's about an hour or so drive to get there but it's totally worth it! I just left the salon. Scott was superb. He evaluated my hair type, what was best my job situation etc. Within a few short minutes I felt he understood my needs. His work was very serious, he seemed intent on making the final results perfect. He said why don't we blow it out? And I said of course... It was like HE was anxious to see the final result. So after being charged $25 (plus 10 for a tip)....I was even more thrilled....so many salons overcharge for a cut and blow dry. I was in town for a wedding and came here for a last minute blow-out. The place was big (especially compared to what I am used to in NYC) and clean. The woman who did my hair was very nice and it was a pleasant experience. HOWEVER, the blowout was not great and I had to completely flat iron my hair when I returned to the hotel. read more

I thought this place was awful to say the least! I asked for balayage. The stylist (a woman in her 40s? Maybe 50s?) asked me what color I wanted to accomplish. I asked he what would be possible because my hair is about 1 shade away from black! She told me I could pick any shade and it could be accomplished and handed me a color book. I picked out exactly what I wanted and she told me I couldn't get it. Then I picked out something else. She told me again that it couldn't be done! ...what's the point of telling someone they can have any tone if it can't! Then I just said as light as it could go without killing and drying out my hair. She started "balayage" which was not balayage at all! She used a Combe and not a brush to put it in. I could barely see any color change. I asked her if we could do foils instead and I would be willing to pay for it on top of paying for her version of balayage as long as she didn't have an appointments scheduled next. She rolled her eyes and did it with such an attitude. Throughout the entire foil process (about an hour) she didn't talk to me....not one word! But while we were sitting there is silence the other "younger blonde" stylist kept getting irritated because all of her clients kept canceling on her. She kept storming back and forth from the front and back swearing and yelling "Jesus Christ" I've never been so offended. As my stylist was doing my foil during this time, she kept yanking at my hair like she was trying to make a statement that she was not happy. Finally at the last 5 maybe 10 min of my service she started talking to me...I'm sure it was because her tip was in jeopardy. After washing my hair out I asked her if she could straighten my hair after blow drying it. She said ok. After my hair was dry she asked me how straight do I want my hair I said I like it very straight. She barely did anything because she told me she likes hair wavy not straight. I'm so glad I paid an outrageous amount of money to NOT get what I wanted! Needless to say I will never go back to this place or recommend this place to anyone! read more

Terrible customer service. Last time I went as a walk in and waited forever as those with appts went first. Today I made an appt and a very rude stylist informed me that I would just have to wait, or leave, but they always take walk-ins first even though I arrived 10 minutes before my appt and it was already past my appt time. If they do not understand the appt system, they shouldn't use it. And rudeness like that...their business must be doing so well they don't need to be nice to customers. Oh well just one more day my son gets to go without a haircut! read more
