I have African American textured hair.. and I am particular about my line up, but Jarod exceeds my expectations, and I have been going to see him for close to 10 years now. Jarod's attention to detail, and overall meticulous nature is what makes him such a good barber. My haircuts are ALWAYS tight, and it frames my face beautifully every time. I got my haircut from Jaclyn and she was just amazing! I have curly hair and I usually don't expect someone to give me a curly cut if their salon isn't a curl specialist salon. I didn't even have to say anything Jaclyn started giving me a curly cut. I told her to get rid of my dead ends and do whatever she thinks is best. I usually tell salons that I don't do anything to my hair and like to keep it minimal upkeep but they still give me haircuts that look great during the appointment and then doesn't match my natural hair afterwards. Safe to say, the way Jaclyn cut my hair really frames my face and let's my curls thrive on their own! I barely need to do anything. She also said she's available for questions or touch ups after if I need it. I had a question about a product she used and she texted me immediately with a response even though she was out that day. Like many of us, I don't have a ton of time to take care of my hair. But - during these COVID days - I have allowed my hair to grow long and to get my hair colored - purple. Erin has supported my (to me) huge changes and helped me love my new look. She is quick, exacting and friendly - all the things I want and need in a stylist. My hair looks great (the color we use really shimmers!) and I always leave her chair happy. I have been going to Impulse ever since I arrived here in 2020 and seen many changes (including going from the Arcade, out and back to the Arcade!), and had a number of different stylists. Nice salon inside The Arcade. I went in for a blowout and a style. Joe did my hair and it looked fabulous! Joe was super friendly and he did a great job with the styling. I was so impressed, no flat iron needed! They use Moroccan Oil products, my hair felt healthy and looked shiny and smooth. At the front desk they offered me a coffee and took my jacket. As a self-proclaimed introverted/socially awkward/emotionally unavailable chick, it is difficult for me to get the stamina and courage to sit in a stylist's chair for a half an hour or longer. Small talk, pampering, grooming, and chatting about my personal life to a total stranger, are things I tend to avoid. Generally, when I look back at my previous salon experiences, it is a string of painful protracted periods of social agony, ending in a traumatic hair cut because the stylist clearly did not listen to me when I explained what I was looking for. Hardly an experience I would care to repeat. But, a girl has to get her hair done! I finally heard about Caitlin Doris from my sister. While my sister is definitely more of a girly girl, I trust her taste and she gave Caitlin a veritable accolade. Not only is Caitlin a hair wizard, she is friendly, comfortable, savvy to your social boundaries (super important if you're an introvert), and can talk about a wide variety of topics, people, music, venues, tattoos, art, whatever, you name it! She has much more to talk about than what just got printed in Us Weekly. There's no pressure to get a cut or color you don't want, she won't try to sell you on an idea you don't think isn't "you" as some stylists have tried, and you WILL leave her chair feeling like a sexy, swanky, rock star for a very fair price. She can accommodate the punkiest, edgiest rocker chick, but also could pull of more traditional and conservative styles with panache. I follow her on instagram and facebook, and am constantly blown away by her talent! The salon itself is organized, clean, aesthetically appealing, and generous with offerings such as water, coffee and tea. The other staff members are consistently friendly and helpful. The tanning bed is a standing unit, but I do feel as though the bulb could be stronger as I rarely tan, and the time spent in the booth didn't seem to give me any color. Also, give yourself ample time to find parking (sometimes it has taken me 20 minutes to grab a spot), and bring coins for the meters. read more

I've never been a high maintenance girl, but I am still very picky with who does anything with my hair. Upon my move to Providence, I searched and scoured and based on some word of mouth from my friend Carlos and I've been coming here for the past 2 years. Talin is my go-to girl and she is absolutely fantastic. I've done everything from chop off 6 inches to highlights to a basic trim and she's made me look incredible every time. All of the services I've ever gotten have been exceptional and the prices are decent. They also offer a huge line of hair, make up and skin products at the salon. The parking situation is the only thing i'm not a fan of but that's what you get with a place that's located downcity. Most of the local barbers have been in Providence for years and they must be used to cutting the same people's hairs and not accustomed to new customers. My hair was almost always uneven with certain spots longer than others and not clean all around. After month of searching and searching for someone to properly cut my hair the way I want, I've found the place. John, owner, cut my hair and I asked him to try out a new style for me. I told him the lengths of the sides and top and then he gave his input. I came out with a fresh cut and a sharp split (which I've never tried before). I've only received compliments about the new style and I'm definitely sticking to this cut from now on. As for the facility, compared to the other barbers I've been to, Impulse is much more modern, sleek and clean. There's even a waiting area with elegant seats, a keurig machine, water filter, and even a receptionist. Overall it is an aesthetically pleasing place to be in. I liked my cut when it was done, but had requested a "trim" and I received a real "cut". I told the girl that I didn't usually put a lot of effort into styling it. When I didn't blow it dry today, I wasn't in love with it. Parking is a pain, but the salon's prices are reasonable. I used a Groupon here, and which I have often found unfortunately to be the case with salons, felt like a second class citizen. The receptionist barely maintained contact with me once she had the serial number, so that I could leave a tip for my stylist. read more
