I really wanted to like Coiffurium--I gave it a genuine try and saw two different stylists. Everyone there is very nice, which I appreciated. But when I asked for a change in style, the result missed the mark by quite a bit. When I reached out about it, the manager had me jump through several hoops--sending multiple photos of my hair and the inspiration style--and their email replies were incredibly long and complicated. A simple solution would have been to just have me come back in for a quick fix. Instead, after all of that, I was offered "a couple of highlights," which felt like too little, too late considering everything I'd already gone through. For $300 and a $60 tip, it really should have been better. read more

I have been going to Coiffurium for about a year now and love it! The front desk team is incredibly personable and accommodating with scheduling. The atmosphere is warm and inviting without being stuffy. They have strong wifi so you can work/read/scroll during services. They are situated in the middle of Hope Street among some great shops and cafes and there is plenty of street parking on Hope or surrounding side streets. I can't say enough wonderful things about my stylist, Jen. She is always up for trying something new and provides great tips for maintaining color and styling. Coiffurium has been my salon since a good friend recommended it, when a former stylist was giving me attitude for growing out my grey--about seven years ago now! Kelly Ann is a sweetheart who always listens and never judges. She does my hair (60-plus basic bob) and my daughter's too (26 year-old constantly evolving length and style). We both get tons of compliments, and I always look forward to the FANTASTIC scalp massage that Kelly Ann gives with each shampoo. I seriously would pay just to have her shampoo my hair and massage my head. The Salon is always clean with a comfortable waiting area and friendly front desk staff. I cannot say enough good things about this salon and my stylist, Aryonna. I had my first haircut since October, 2019 today. (due to leg injury and COVID) The sailing is handling COVID protocols very well. It is spotlessly clean as always and chairs are separated by what look like plastic shower curtains. I was completely comfortable. Aryonna did an amazing job on my hair as she always does. A testament to her amazing talent is how good my hair still looked, even after all this time had passed. Another yelp find that has worked out beautifully for me! I desperately needed a haircut. My hair was too long and just lifeless. I was able to get an appointment with Patty within a couple days of calling the salon. When I came in she was ready to go, asked me what I wanted to change and some questions about my hair history. I loved that she didn't judge my honesty about flat ironing my hair too much or that I went way too long without cutting my hair and it was now super jagged and uneven. After washing and conditioning, she started cutting. She cut off about 6 inches and left me with a very beautiful cut. My hair went from feeling lifeless to full of bounce and nice, clean lines. She styled it so it was sleek but still had waves throughout- no frizz. I was in and out of the salon in less than an hour. Amazingly efficient and worth the cost of service. I've been going to Erin at the Coiffurium since I moved to Providence, almost 12 years ago and that was a stroke of great luck! Erin is lovely, talented, and listens well. She's been with me through my first pixie, growing it out long, donating my hair, and going short again. I get many compliments on my haircut and color (it's all natural salt and pepper and Erin's never suggested/recommended that I color it, which I appreciate) and I always refer people to Erin and the Coiff! A few times, I had to go to other stylists and had a great experience, although I'm loyal to Erin through and through. I was happy with both stylists that cut my hair but I was most impressed with my last stylist Patti. She cut my hair exactly like I asked and did a great job with the side bangs! She's also one of the most efficient blow dryers I've seen, which is much appreciated because that's my least favorite part of any hair cut. I came to Coiffurium because my schedule at school didn't align with that of my usual stylist at Eddie C's. It was the night before winter formal, I was stressed about bringing a date, and I needed to look damned good. I scoured the internets for a highly rated salon in Providence, and found Coiffurium. The receptionist was able to fit me in for a haircut that very same day. When I arrived, I was greeted by a friendly receptionist, and was promptly offered a selection of Tazo teas (not that Stash nonsense). When I met my stylist, Kim, I was nervous. She was a middle-aged woman wearing adorable charms and bracelets, and she spoke with a proud Rhode Island accent. Her hair was fierce, but could her skills surpass those of the chichi gays at Eddie C's? Would she know how to proportion my hair into the perfect fauxhawk?? How to texturize my locks into controlled chaos??? Would she make me regret not bringing a photo of Taylor Lautner on my iPad???? I'm pleased to report that in addition to providing me with the exact haircut I wanted, Kim did a few things that really impressed me, e.g., offering to rinse my hair after my haircut (in addition to having already washed it) to remove loose hairs, bringing over a variety of hair products and providing her recommendation for my hair type, asking if I wanted to apply the hair product myself, spraying my hands with water and providing a clean towel so I could wash product off my hands, attaching what appeared to be some sort of velvet condom to the end of a hairdryer to gently heat my styled hair into place. I was very pleased with Kim's work and have been back since. She is consistently good. read more

Let's start with their hostess - most cheerful person on the phone ever (....thank you for being patient as I clumsily scroll through my calendar and bite my nails over timing). Parking: a breeze on Hope St (...just kidding, it can be tough finding a spot, but who doesn't love a Hope St stroll??!). The salon: clean, glamorous, and full of light. Sit in their comfy chairs or peruse their products while you wait for your appointment (B&B, Pureology, OPI polishes - I love it all) Now my most favorite part: Jessica - I love you and your spunkiness! She's done what no other stylist has ever done: captured my attention AND my style. She convinced this previous twice-a-year-trim/"I'll use any ole shampoo" gal into a regular customer and firm believer in Pureology Essential Oils conditioner - - - Rumpelstiltskin would be jealous of these locks). My lady's wash-trim-blowout = $37 (...what?!). I look great. I feel great. And now, if you'll excuse me, I'm about to pop over to Rhody Craft, Frog & Toad, and 7Stars to boot. Had to update this review due to my fabulous experience with Kat - she's rad and also a curly girl, so she was able to help me figure out what to do with my new, shorter 'do. I popped in for some product and noticed that I was feeling self-conscious about my latest hair cut, so the woman at the desk brought me in for a consult with Kat. She immediately understood what i was talking about AND going for - so she fixed it and I feel like a weight has been lifted. Start to finish, the whole process of making and taking an appointment at Coiffurium was lovely. The receptionist was friendly and I really appreciated that she explained the payment options to me over the phone. (fees can go on a credit card but tips are cash only) I then received a reminder text before my appointment. I was seen by Shelby who was very friendly. Admittedly, I think I'm an annoying client. I only get my hair cut every two years and I really can't be bothered with "styling" it any more than a quick comb through and a pony tail. That being said, I still like my hair to look like I actually have a hairstyle. Many times, stylists are hesitant and think that just because I rarely get my hair cut, that must mean I'm timid when it comes to my hair. No way! Cut it all off, shave a bit here and there, bleach a chunk or two over there. I'm game for anything. This time, however, I played it a little safe. There were lots of descriptors used, and hand motions, and what not and eventually, we got to a cut that I was really happy with. I definitely plan to return to Coiffurium.....and maybe even sooner than two years! PS. Prices are very affordable, especially if you're used to Newport salon prices! read more

Throughly pleased from start to finish! I called totally last minute because I needed to squeeze in a haircut TODAY. They were wonderful--booked me an hour later. The receptionist was lovely on the phone and when I arrived, and they offered me tea or coffee while I waited (a mere couple of minutes) for my appointment. Mallory took amazing care of me--great consultation, great wash and condition, excellent cut, and efficient and beautiful blowout. She was a total sweetheart and I'm very pleased overall. I normally go to a salon in my hometown, but I can't recommend Coiffurium enough. Some reviews have said that it was expensive, but I think that $45 on the East Side is to be expected--also, they use fabulous Moroccan Oil products. Bravo! read more

Got my first haircut here today from Cat Fenton. Called at 12:30 and got an appointment at 1:45. Nice. The difference between this place and say, Supercuts or other low budget places is that for a $50 haircut you're going to get what you want, even if it takes your hairdresser 2 hours. At least that was my experience. Cat was awesome and really cared about how my hair was going to look. There was no rush to get me out of the seat and onto the next customer, she took her time and made sure it was up to her standards (and mine). Oh and the scalp massage! No skimping there. My hair came out great, and she spent a full hour and fifteen minutes on it making sure it came out just right. She asked if I preferred a razor or scissors, took her time cutting so that it was just the right length at the end, and asked me all about how I normally style it so that I could do it on my own everyday. She mixed in the right amount of conversation and quiet time for her to focus. She made me very comfortable and everyone loves my cut. I'll be back! Note: They accept credit cards, but only take cash for tips. read more

BEST. EXPERIENCE. EVER. I happened to be home in Providence this weekend, and was in desperate need of some color. After my usual salon was unable to accomodate me, I decided to give Coiffurium a call. They originally didn't have an appointment for me but called back within 15 minutes and were able to squeeze me in. Not only was the receptionist extremely friendly and helpful, she never gave me the 'oh-you're-calling-last-minute' attitude one usually gets at a salon when trying to book a last minute appointment. I already loved the place before I got there. I arrived exactly on time for my appointment with Greg (more to come on how awesome he was), and there was no wait, which is fairly unusual for a salon. The place is clean and everyone seemed to love being there, which really added to the already outstanding atmosphere of Coiffurium. Greg sat me down and sat in a chair next to me while listening to what I wanted. It seemed like such a small gesture, but it really made me feel as if he wanted to really understand what I was looking for. After telling him my initial ideas, he tailored my request to perfection and was incredibly thorough in explaining to me the different options to help me achieve what I wanted. He not only listened, but made great suggestions--fine-tuning my ideas using his creative genius. And the outcome? FABULOUS. My hair came out EXACTLY how I wanted it to, and I can honestly say that after 10 years of dying my hair, for the first time the results were identical to the intentions. Not to mention that Greg was incredibly pleasant to talk to, and was very attentive to my comfort as I sat under the dryer and whatnot. I went in to get a deva cut and my hair had never looked worse. I eventually had to chop more than half of my hair off just to get rid of the horrible shape it had. My hair was disproportionately uneven and i had to wear my hair up in a bun for WEEKS! I've never felt so subconscious about my hair in my life. I was truly upset because I had waited 3 weeks for my appointment. I called Coiffurium in a panic, and I can't tell you how amazing my day was after. The woman at the front desk truly made me feel better ( I think her name is Megan). She listened, offered me assistance and options and set me up with the most awesome stylist Kelly Ann. The salon is clean & everyone is beyond friendly. My head massage was spectacular and my hair looks happy and healthy. I can't wait for my next appointment and am happy to have found this salon. I'm so torn. Ok, definitely one of the best places in Providence. Super nice staff, crisp and clean location, and great products for sale. They definitely saved my hair after the hack-job that happened over at M Squared Salon. I was able to get my color back to a normal highlighted blonde opposed to the platinum that M Squared put it (not requested by me) and helped a bit with the cut. My problem though is really that the cut was not the best. It wasn't even and its not like I had a complicated cut. I was growing my hair out from a shorter cut so really, keep it simple - and they just didn't do the best job. Luckily, I moved back to LA and got that situation taken care of. Now here is the funniest part. They have waxing services available as well but don't offer brazlians on their services menu. When I asked if they did brazilians opposed to just bikini waxes, I got a look that mirrored a "oh heaven's no!". They were still very nice about it just made me feel like a floozy haha. read more

I had to update my review because I finally decided to get The Big Cut, and chop off my hip length hair to something shorter. Really, I had no idea what it would look like; I just knew that I wanted just enough length to pull back into a ponytail, and something that I could wear tousled (I have naturally wavy hair) that could also be smoothed into a sleek 'do. Ann listened to me clearly, made some suggestions, and dived right in! She was so excited by the challenge and getting to give me a whole new look that the experience was really pleasant and fun. It is a big deal for me to have so much hair removed and I liked that she seemed to feel the same way! It amazed me how quickly she chopped my locks into such a cute, layered do (about 40 mins for everything; wash, cut, blow dry, and finishing touches). When it was done, I asked to have my bangs thinned out a little more, and she was only too happy to oblige. She also gave me some tips on products and how to style it since it's been years since I did anything more complex than a bun or braids. I left the salon feeling amazing, and I LOVE my new look! The whole thing was a little more than $40, which I consider a very competitive price. I really just can't say enough good things about this salon. :) And Ann is fantastic! read more

I have been going to the Coiffurium for at least eight years now, and the rest of my family gets their hair cut here, too. We love it! The whole staff is charming and friendly, the new digs are beautiful and quite comfortable. Patty is simply the best. She's so sweet, works incredibly fast, and does a fantastic job each and every time. I live in California now, but always come home to have her cut my hair because no one does a better job. My sister has returned to have Patty cut her hair even as she's moved from Providence, to New York, to Boston, and now Belgium. On her wedding day, my sister trusted her hair, her maid of honor's, her mother's, and her grandmother's to Patty--and we were all delighted with the results. I cannot speak highly enough of this wonderful, talented woman and great salon. My mother would like me to add that they do everything well: cut, color, and waxing.
