I have been going to JLS for years! My dad lived down the street and when my daughter was born it was easy to drop her off at his house, walk to JLS for some me time plus then I wouldn't be away from her that long. Little did I know when I first went what a nice establishment I was walking into. It is trendy, clean and has a chic vibe throughout the facility. I was paired up with Kim. Kim is super friendly and i just give her free reign with my hair. She knows what she is doing! I have been oing to her for 8 years and she has never lead me down the wrong path with the color or cut. If I am her first appointment she asks me if I want a coffee on her way in. Now she cuts my daughters hair and my daughter LOVES her! JLS is now in a new location but not too far from their last location! They have done a great job with renovations. Still chic, trendy and clean. They now have a parking lot (super helpful!) A bigger waiting area and in general more space. The new space, in a repurposed fire station, is gorgeous! Beautiful chandeliers and exposed brick. And there's plenty of parking! I haven't been offered a glass of wine here, though... My stylist is Kristin, who is so friendly and warm, and an expert with curly hair - and color. She's a great listener who responds to what you ask for, but who is honest if she thinks it might not work for you. I've never had a disappointing or "unfortunate" haircut from her, and with my hair that's saying something for sure. Kristin says curly hair blow outs relax her, and she manages the task for me quickly and with great skill. No burnt ears or scalp, no frizzy ends and flat iron only upon request. What a mess. I came here as a new client for a hair cut. First I was taken back 20 mins late. The gal doing my hair (I believe her name is Kelly? Could be wrong) left me three times to work on her other client. I understand some stylists can handle double booking. That's fine. She clearly can't. Between pulling out foils, shampooing and toning... it was clear she needed my appointment time for her other client. I was far from a valued client. My stylist Seemed extremely novice. She didn't cut any layers in the front... I think she forgot as she went to assist her other client. My layers in the back are uneven at best. I had to leave with wet hair because I didn't have all day to sit there while she catered to her other clients. Will never be back. They advertise being a little bit of Hollywood in Rhode Island. I recently moved to the area and was searching for a last minute Sunday hair appointment. I called the salon soon after it opened and left a message asking for a same day appointment. I doubted I'd hear back but within an hour I had a call back an appointment scheduled for later that afternoon. The salon was easy to find using GPS and there's a parking lot right outside. The receptionist and the salon owner, Jess, greeted me when I arrived and Jess even offered me an herbal tea while I waited for my stylist, Kristen. The salon is very nicely decorated and the reception area is comfortable and quiet. Kristin was excellent! She took the time to thoroughly understand the type of haircut I wanted and the level of maintenance I was comfortable with. She also checked in with me regularly during the cut to explain her technique and make sure what she was doing was okay. I'm extremely happy with my cut and booked a follow up appointment when I checked out. I am so glad I found a great local salon and stylist! read more

I booked an appointment with Kim on Monday, I wasn't familiar with the area, but willing to drive because I saw her work on social media. The salon is bigger than it appears. Very cute and girly vibe with sparkly mirrors and Chandeliers. Kim sat me down right away and I showed her exactly what I wanted -via Pinterest. She said it wasn't an issue. It took some time for my hair to develop while I waited she finished up her other client; asking if I'd like some wine, water coffee etc. after she did the bayalage she cut and washed/styled my hair. Kelly is by far the best stylist I've ever met in my life. She is brave, patient and very knowledgeable. I was told this was the best place around, I was sadly mistaken. Your better off not having your hair fried off by snobby wannabes who have no hair on their own damn heads. If they could shave you bald they would in a heart beat. All they do is gossip and talk amongst themselves about who's doin who. "If you know what I mean" Not to mention the unnecessary up charge they nonchalantly add to to your bill unexpectedly. I know its tough out there and you have to pay your rent and all, but that is absolutely unprofessional to put your own personal problems on other peoples wallets. Ummm, the fact that this place is in an old fire station is pretty awesome. The salon is in the garage and they can open the garage doors to 1. Let some fresh air through and 2. Show all the passer-bys how beautiful the salon is. I only come here when I visit my in-laws once a year from California. When I do, I get my hair done by the talented and beautiful Brittany Geremia. She will always be straight with you on how a process will work on your hair and talk you down from a ledge if you walk in with dark hair and want pink hair STAT! She's been doing hair for a while and you can tell she loves her job. She has now started renting a chair so check her out! She's tagged plenty on the JLS Instagram account (you need to follow) and she has her own where she has her business info. She also allows booking online which is so easy! read more

I'd been looking for a new stylist since growing dissatisfied with my last one, and I'm so happy with what Lauren did. I felt listened to and she gave good advice on what would work best for me. I found this place on instagram and have never dyed me hair before and read good reviews( so i thought). When i went to my first appointment i asked for caramel balayage but basically just got a huge streak of light brown hair in my bangs and a couple streaks in the back. i went back again after 3 months to see if they could redeem themselves and was disappointed again. asked for the same caramel balayage and got the blondest highlights in my very dark brown/black hair. it was decent but not what i asked for. when i got home and checked my hair some more i noticed half of my head didn't get any toner so it was pure bleached blonde yellow/orange hair. when i told Rachael (the girl who did my hair) she said she noticed it when she was blowing my hair out! she noticed it and didn't even tell me. never coming here again. you shouldn't either. read more

Now about the location- JLS hair design is located in an old fire station house and the decor and style of the place makes you feel like you're in an exclusive resort. The exposed brick, vault ceilings, crystal chandeliers and friendly staff set the mood. I would highly suggest checking this place out- Katie did wonders for my hair and my mood. Every member of the staff was friendly & you could tell it was a fun work environment. Now lets get down to my hair... It has been over processed in the past due to me box dying my hair when I was young, to stylists giving me unrealistic expectations when it came to lightening my dark natural hair. Sara took the time to look at my hair & find the best toner for a natural balayage but the color still pops. I LOVE it. I even felt comfortable enough to have her chop off 5+ inches & add some long layers. I recommend Sara to anyone. She's talented & slays the balayage, & is super kind & friendly. I was feeling down in the dumps about my hair being so lifeless due to my horrendous work schedule and too much time in between appointments. So lucky for me I found a salon with the hours that worked for my schedule and that wasn't even the best part; my hair was! From the parking lot to the finished product of sample products at the end of my visit I was thrilled with my results. David, my stylist was professional, experienced and did exactly what I asked him to. My color and cut came out flawless and was done in a way I can maintain and still look fabulous. As a "blonde" it's not always easy to find someone who knows the struggle of fighting those pesky roots. With highlights and low lights and a maintenance plan I have already scheduled my next appointment. I was extremely pleased and a week later still very satisfied. I've been to JLS to buy products before. They are reasonably priced compared to other salons. I became a client earlier this week because I needed some TLC to my hair and to feel good after a horrendous week (treat yo' self!). I was skeptical to start with a new hairdresser after the one I had been going to for years lost my trust by ruining the color I had in my hair. I called pretty last minute but was thankfully booked with David the next day. Unfortunately I was on a time constraint since I had something I had to attend later in the day. They booked me for a solid 3 hours and I was absolutely given the best treatment possible. I have a ton of hair. David worked miracles and tamed my wild, long, thick, dead off colored hair. He got it looking natural, gorgeous and healthy. Not to mention the other staff made me feel great by complimenting his work. David is an asset to their team- totally sweet, down to earth and hard working. He never made me feel neglected or my hair was in serious danger like I have felt previously in other salons. Loved this place! My first visit and everyone there was very professional and super friendly. I tend to feel uncomfortable in most salons because many of the stylists are not really friendly or can be judgemental if you're not a 'regular' salon-goer. This is one of the nicest salons I have ever been to. I was immediately made to feel very comfortable, offered a beverage, and not once did I feel self-conscious.
