While the blowout service was good, I was disappointed to learn that they were out of the glossing treatment when I arrived on a Saturday. What made this especially frustrating was that the product was still available for purchase for at-home use, so I was surprised that the salon didn't have enough inventory to offer the treatment itself. If you're planning to book a specific service, it may be worth calling ahead to confirm availability. I went to this drybar a month ago for graduation pictures and loved how my hair turned out, so I wanted another blowout for my doctoral graduation yesterday. I booked my appointment over a week ago for 12 on Sunday the 17th. At 11:15 that morning, I received a call saying "they can no longer take me because they are down 2 styalists". I totally understand being short staffed, however getting this news less than 1 hour before my appointment is ridiculous. They did not even offer a solution. I was incredibly upset because this day was extremely important to me and the girl on the phone was not empathetic at all. Update: I should have paid more attention to the combative responses Cassandra left replying to the multiple negative reviews here on Yelp, because low and behold she placed the blame on me for my bad experience with her salon. She had me on a conference call with the other owner and told me they were unable to call me back because they were "busy and it was the weekend, you called four times!" There was no resolution to my VALID complaint, and after I explained I saw her responses to unhappy customers on Yelp, she immediately cuts me off and says "there will be no refund if you're threatening a bad review". Cassandra, keep the fifty bucks, use it to retrain your staff and maybe take some courses on mitigating customer dissatisfaction because you're terrible at it. I wanted to wait until I heard back from the owner regarding my negative experience at Dry Bar on Saturday, but the more I think about it- I shouldn't have to wait this long. The owner should have been on the horn with me THAT day. Now, its two days later and there is still no resolution to the situation, and that leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I had two services booked for 10am Saturday morning, one for my child and the other for myself. I want to explicitly state that the stylists we had were nice, friendly and provided great customer service. Unfortunately, it may have been lack of proper technique by my stylist that caused my blow out to flop an hour after I left the salon. I explained to the stylist that she should skip the conditioner for me and use extra texturizer and high heat for my curly blow out otherwise the curls will fall out and we want to avoid that from happening. She told me "okay no problem", she understood what I was saying and asking for. Our services ended, we paid, and happily left the salon feeling great. An hour later, I had a full head of straight hair. The blowout flopped and I was understandably upset. I called the salon and left a message. I called again a few hours later and spoke to someone who said the owners would call me tomorrow as they were very busy. The next day, still havent heard from anyone, so I called back and got a different person. This time I was told the owners would like to offer me to come back in and get a touch up. I said at this point, I prefer a refund as the event we got our hair done for was already passed (my engagement party- by the way). She said she had to contact the owners for approval (again????). Long story a little more short- its now Monday, I haven't heard from the owners, I've not received a refund and I am extremely disappointed in the management of this salon. LET THIS BE A CAUTIONARY TALE TO MY TIGHT CURL CREW. The staff were very nice, but I showed up for my 1:00pm appointment and waited until 1:35 to start my hair. I am not faulting the salon for this, as they unexpectedly had a stylist call out sick, which threw everything out of whack. I specifically asked for a stylist that had experience with 4c very tight curls when I booked online two weeks before my appointment. I believe I had a stylist experienced with curly hair assigned to me (shout out to Christopher) at first, but he was swapped at the last minute for a different stylist because a repeat customer came in and requested to be with him. The manager seemed very proud of herself for "being a problem solver." She may have solved a problem for the other client, but she created a very big one for me. I ended up with a stylist that looked afraid of my hair. She touched it so hesitantly like she thought it would jump up and bite her, and had no idea how to get the products used during the wash and condition phase past my top layer of hair. The stylist I was supposed to have (Christopher) tried to come over and give her tips on how to section and detangle my hair while the conditioner was in. My stylist ignored him and didn't bother to detangle my hair at all in the sink. She then tried to detangle it in her chair. Two staff members (of color) came over to try and show her how to section and detangle my hair in prep for the blowout. I unfortunately did not catch their names, but shout out to them for trying to help a girl out! My stylist ended up switching out at 3 because she was supposed to be off at 2. Once my initial stylist left, two other staff started talking about how as soon as they saw her take me to the sink to get my hair washed, they knew they would have to help her throughout my appointment... YIKES. At various times, there were 2-3 people working on my hair because the stylists didn't seem to know how to work with curly haired clients. A total of 5 different stylists were working on my hair throughout the 3.5 hours it took to go from my natural curls to mostly straight. I've never felt like such a spectacle. Having all the other clients staring at me like I didn't belong because it was evident the staff had little to no experience with my hair type was mortifying. I had to fight back tears multiple times during my blowout. I actually cried while explaining what happened to my family. The way the staff operated having zero idea of how to work with Black hair made me feel like I was a burden to the Drybar, and it made me feel so embarrassed to be there. I've never felt so "othered" in my life- which says a lot as I used to do ballet at a school where I was the only Black girl in the class. I digress... I do appreciate the kindness of the staff that tried to help educate their coworker, but as The Drybar is not a hair school, it is inappropriate for their stylists to not be able to work with a variety of hair types: especially when they advertise on their website that their stylists can accommodate curly textures. The only good thing about my experience was that I was able to pay for it with a gift card given to me by a friend for my birthday. If I had needed to pay my own money for the terrible experience I had, I would have walked out before the service was completed, because I can have frizzy hair and be embarrassed for free; I don't need to pay $80 to do it. I hope they take the time to do cultural competency training and teach their stylists to either: learn about how to work with very tight curls adequately, or admit when they don't know prior to such a customer coming in so an experienced stylist can meet our needs. I cannot in good faith recommend the Drybar to the multitude of curly haired people I know after this horrendous experience. I hope Drybar Cranston can learn from this and improve. They get one star for having a clean environment and providing a drink- also I can't leave zero stars. A mimosa doesn't make up for my mortification. read more

This was my first time going to Drybar for a blowout and I left very disappointed. While getting my hair washed, the water used was cold and not enjoyable. The person doing the wash was also very rough. When I got back into the chair, she started combing my hair from the top and was not gentle. During the blow dry portion, my head felt like it was on fire from keeping the blow dryer in the same spot. I told my person that my hair doesn't hold a curl well when she asked. With that information she curled the front two pieces of my hair and that was it. The blowout lasted about 10 minutes before it all fell out into straight frizzy hair. I added on the frizzy treatment, not worth it at all. I do not recommend going to this place if you want a blowout that last, a non burning scalp, and hair still attached to your head. read more

I went twice and the blow outs were okay. The person who did my hair was very nice. Just do NOT buy a gift card. My son bought be a $100 gift card for mother's day. The second time I used it with a $55 balance it was denied. I called the number on the credit card and they said it was denied because it couldn't be used to pay for a bill. I wasn't paying a bill I just wanted a blowout. The corporate gift card person said that Drybar must not be processing the gift cards correctly. I understand that mistakes happen but, I never even heard back from a manager at the salon. The first time I went, they had a meeting in the store, I arrived 5 minutes early and was told to come back. When I came back it was loud and not relaxing. I took my daughter to Drybar for a mommy and me day and it was fabulous. The service was great. My daughter picked space buns which were executed perfectly. I always get a solid week of the most amazing curls after I leave drybar (and I sweat and work out a ton). I have curly thick hair. From start to finish It hurt. I came in for a wash, a dry and braiding because my wrist is broken and I can't do it myself. I thought this was going to be a nice treat. My stylist had long nails so my hair was getting caught in them and breaking during my wash. I was looking for a soothing experience, And this was not it. I wanted to cry. I was definitely not detangled while I was being conditioned. I got two French braids which was a painful process. I don't feel like any product was put in so my hair would glide through her fingers. I could tell the blowdry was frizzy. I don't like the way the braids came out. they're sticking awkwardly off of my head. and I'll probably take them out tomorrow. I can't believe I spent $85 for a service that was so miserable. I should've read the reviews before I came that's my bad. I don't leave reviews, but this was just so expensive. Finally a dry bar in Rhode Island. This national chain does one thing and does it brilliantly: blow outs. As a southern girl I take my hair volume seriously. The training of dry bar staff and their products are super consistent all over the country. I always book when I am traveling if the city has one. They are fast, organized and courteous. And most important my hair looks great afterwards and holds for several days (thanks Kaily). Sometimes I'll mix it up and get a straight style, or more curl. A great break and if you like rom coms make sure to ask for a seat in front of the TV. So fun to catch an old favorite while getting pampered. I think the booking system for appointment should have a place where you could specify your hair type or request a personal with experience on your type of hair. a young girl did my blowdry, washed my black hair with smoking hot water, didn't wash the scalp, she focused on the hair only. I am a regular at Drybar Cranston which is usually a pleasant experience. However today was not so much. When booking I wrote in who I would like to be with as I always go to him and his blowdrys are worth waiting for! Truly! However Brooke was insisting I go to someone else even though I was willing to wait. I have been going here for over a year paying 90 dollars a month which I will rethink based on how I was treated today. This may have been a unique situation but she kept coming up to me telling me why I couldn't be with this specific person. Eventually Brooke accommodated but only after I was insistent. When you are expecting to have a relaxing experience discussion made it very uncomfortable and realized that customer service is not the priority! Christine Im responding to Cassandra reaching out thank you. However why when a customer puts in a comment like my request it cant be seen? That sounds like a drybar issue? And if you're doubting my word which is pointed out in comments that you don't see my request for Christian that is insulting to me personally. It is unfortunate that Brooke doesn't seem to have people skills to work through a customer request politely. Maybe this can be a a teachable moment. I had my hair done by Charlie, very young like fresh out of school, used very hot water on my blonde highlights, even the blow dryer, was very hot would burn my scalp I had to say ouch few times like pull my hair away, I asked for curls and this is my pic, a hot mess, also 15 for a scalp massage I got two min, she barely touched my scalp, and for 70$ price tag i could of went to my reg salon to just get a blow out, atmosphere was very nice, but I was not happy at all with my 1st experience. I felt that it was rushed and not at all professional. She washed my hair in cold water for maybe 2 minutes. Didn't even really work the products into my hair either. She was very aggressive with brushing my hair and parting it. I told her my hair had a hard time keeping a curl last time I came which is totally on my hair not on the person doing it so if she could use more hair spray and keep the curl in longer. When she had finished blowing out the front pieces and pining them she began to undo the bottom ones. Seeing how the last time I came she gave my hair a cold shot with the hair dryer to make sure all the curls were done. I didn't have that done this time, she just immediately started taking them out. Then asked if I wanted any curls with the curling iron. Which I appreciate her asking but I came in for a blow out not for the look that the curling iron would make that's totally different style. After I was done my hair had maybe the slightest change of a curl on the end with zero volume. I understand that each hairstylist has a different way of doing things but I felt very rush and my hair was being pulled the whole time. The service is 10/10, stylists are well versed in their craft. You would honestly never know that they just opened less than a month ago. Made an appointment for 2:00... when 2:40 rolled around and nobody had helped me yet, I went up to the desk and told them I had to leave because I was going to be late to a wedding. I was told that even if I left, I would still be charged full price for the service that I would not be getting. I understand 15 minutes late, but 40 minutes is unacceptable. Even more unacceptable that they refuse to compensate you for the extreme delay. Don't know the point of making an appointment if they can't hold up on their end. Skip this place and go support a local salon that respects their clients. If you're looking for aggravation and a bad blow out this is the place. read more
