I had a small cone of vanilla, which if blind-taste-tested against McDonald's soft serve, i wouldn't have been able to tell the difference. Which is fine. We went in on July 4 during the dinner time rush. The place was so packed you could barely get in. We ordered the chili cheese fries with shredded cheddar. While we were waiting the people next to us found out someone else took their order from the counter before they got to it. The staff got a them replacement order right away without a problem. When we got our food we found that they had put cheese sauce on it instead of shredded cheese. We'd first ordered what we did because of a wheat allergy and when I asked about the mistake and if the sauce had wheat they pulled out a binder with full ingredient lists for everything they use (something a lot of small local places still don't do). They offered right away to replace the food, and when I found out the sauce was clean and said we'd go ahead and eat what we had, they brought out shredded cheese for us to put over it anyway. Despite being very busy and crowded they were keeping the tables clean and took the time to deal with customer concerns without any problem or complaint. The food here is very mediocre. For a restaurant that advertises its burgers and hotdogs, I was extremely underwhelmed. When I ordered a hotdog, I even witnessed a cook microwaving my order... which meant that I could probably get the same quality food at home. It does have some good aspects. They had a pretty sweet 10th anniversary swing dance celebration. The aesthetic is very nice and the food is relatively cheap given its surrounding area, but if you are looking for good food this is not the place to go. read more

The milk shakes are terrible. The employees stare you down as if You are a criminal. They are rude and they charge you more money than expected. I ordered tenders that cost 7.99 and a milkshake which was 3.99 which is basically 8+4= 12 I understand it has tax but the employee told me it was 14.30 ! So you're telling me the tax for 2 item are $2.30 I guess because I look young and dumb but I know for a fact that 2 items isn't that much. Need a quick and inexpensive food fix in the middle of Colonial Williamsburg? Then Retro's is the place for you! I have been there a few times during my visits to Williamsburg and cannot recommend them enough. Make sure to get their delicious limeade and some frozen custard! They offer all different types of food...there is literally something there for everyone. I'll be looking forward to stopping in there on my next visit to Williamsburg. read more
