This place is awesome! Came here after the farmers market on Saturday right as they were opening. The two guys were friendly and answered my questions, unlike the pizza place across the street. This is a sad review for a sad restaurant that rests on its captive audience of students and 40+ year olds in the summer. A once wonderful place where my favorite sub of all time existed: the prince George - defining flavor of salty Smithfield ham, turkey, thinly sliced dill pickle, and tomato. Last night, mild semi-flavorless ham and a pickle that tasted like a cucumber. They are hardly trying to make food right. I ordered the appetizer of wings, as well. The prince George was served 10 minutes before the wings appetizer was ready. Soggy bread, not tasty at all. It was edible food. Not much more. My spouse and mother in law ordered a Stromboli with spinach and feta cheese. I joked about a florentine Stromboli. Served with three times the feta needed and tomato, no spinach. My 16 y/o daughter ordered loaded French fries (fries with cheese and bacon). Served cold with flavorless bacon. Congealed cheese, she ate very little of it. My wife ended up serving our table after the server neglected our food that sat on the ready bar, dying for 10 minutes. DON'T TIP WHEN ORDERING!!!!! I SUSPECT THEY WILL NEGLECT YOU, TOO!!!! Pro tip: literally tell them you will tip based on their service! Oh, and you order at the counter and bus your own table. What are you tipping for, seriously? What service are they giving? Their only service is bringing you the hot food. That's it. Just bringing the food to your table when it's ready. Period. After ordering, I never saw my server again after serving the sandwich, she never served the wings or loaded fries. She never checked on anything ever again. Stick to this place for beer and liquor. Oh, yeah, the wings were ok but they were plain wings with no dressing AT ALL. Just deep fried wings with a dipping sauce. Same with the plain deep fried chicken strips - 14 y/o said they were ok. As long as the cooks don't have to do much... deep field food is ok. The men's bathroom had no soap to wash hands with. The paper towel roll was on the somewhat dirty bathroom sink. To flush the men's toilet, they had thankfully removed the toilet lid so you, the guest, can reach into the toilet tank to flush by pulling the chain for the toilet handle which did not work. Somewhat unsanitary considering no soap, no soap dispenser, or any idea that handwashing soap was ever there. Gross??!!?? You be the judge This is a sad drinking bar now. Service was negligent. Ordered take out and waited next to the counter for 30+ minutes. The food was out but no one decided to let me know it was ready until I inquired about my order. They missed my drink order, also had to ask to get it. Got the Apollo sub - it was barely edible. Slathered in mayo, cold, cheese barely melted. I took a bite and debated throwing it out. Not to mention it was $20, not worth the money at all. Ambiance gave off dirty college vibes with beer spills, toilets that didn't flush and chipping paint. College Delly has been there seemingly forever. I've lived in the 'hood for over 33 years, and I don't recall it not being there. Yesterday was my second visit. Sitting at the bar, I ordered to go: * Steak and Cheese sub (Onions, Lettuce, Tomato, Mayo, Pickle and Provolone), $10.49 * Onion Rings, $5.49 * Large Greek Salad (Iceberg Lettuce, Tomato, Onions, Green Peppers, Cucumbers, Kalamata Olives (with pits), Pepperoncini, Dolmades, Feta Cheese, Spanakopita and our Greek dressing), $10.99 Twenty minutes later I was headed home, and 35 minutes after that I was snarfing down the Onion Rings. Wonderful Onion Rings, 9 ounces worth; plump, crisp, and flavorful. Worthy of a repeat. Next was the Steak & Cheese Sub. It only came in one size, but anywhere else, it would be considered a large Sub. Chopped Beef, Tomato, Onions, Dill Slices. I ate half and put away half for this morning. The half that I ate yesterday was wondefrul, and I believe I taste a hint of Mustard. For the half that I ate this morning, it was just as wonderful. I detected no Mustard taste, so I don't know. Either way, it was a very good Sub. Later in the morning I devoured the large Greek Salad. That is the most diverse GS I've ever eaten. It had all the usual ingredients, plus a few pieces of Spanakopita and one Dolmade. For my taste, Spana and Dolma don't belong in a Salad, so I ate them separately and enjoyed every bite. Many more menu items that I'd like to try, so I'll be back. College Delly is easy to find. Parking was easy in the dedicated lot, although it is a small lot and I think I just got lucky. The store was clean, my server was cheerful and friendly. That's the way to build return customers. :) read more

Their staff is incredibly rude and their food is mediocre at best, but they have daily drink deals, so we keep coming back for the cheap beer. Our experience this week may have changed things, however, when we were overtly lied to and treated like a bunch of idiots. It was Thursday night--dollar Coronas--and admittedly busier than it's been lately, because it was the first week the undergrads were back. We had our first round and went to the bar for more, and we were told they were out. Fine. No big deal. That happens almost every time. Except that was a lie. We could clearly see more Coronas--at least three rows of them--in the fridge right in front of where we were standing (see photo). We thought they may have made a mistake and not realized they had more, so we pointed them out, and were told "those aren't Coronas." Uh, what? Yes, they are. Those are very obviously Coronas, and you're not out of them. Then we were told that they can't sell us those because they need to save them for the rest of the weekend. So, if that's the case, then... maybe don't store them within direct view of the customers? If that's the case, they should have at least given US some as a "one time thing" for noticing, and then put them away. Lying to us TWICE--once by telling us you're out, once by claiming what are clearly Coronas aren't Coronas, before finally coming around and admitting you have more that aren't for sale--is unacceptable. My friend ended up getting a different beer, and I just tabbed out. As my friend walked away, the bartender rolled her eyes and shook her head at him. Later, we saw someone else get a Corona. Maybe you can get away with treating freshly-of-age undergrads that have, like, two other bar options with this kind of condescension, but get your act together and realize that doesn't make up the entirety of your clientele. read more

What an amazing find near colonial Williamsburg. I came with a party of four and was sat out back where it is breezy and fresh. The server, Lukas, was very kind and helpful. He even spoke Spanish to my grandparents. We ordered the fish and chips and the Greek salad. The portions are HUGE. There are enough fries in the fish and chips for two people. None of us finished which is a first for us. The Greek salad was also massive. Definitely for two people or to be shared as a family. The fish was piping hot and crispy, not fishy at all and no bones. Very clean. The salad had huge chunks of veggies and the dressing was fantastic. Not a bad experience for the 15 minutes I was there Sunday evening. A definite small spot suited for the college campus. I visited there as part of an event so was treated to a few samples of their various offering: pizza, pasta, and nachos. Meh all around but I really wasn't expecting too much. The nice thing about this place is the covered room on the right side of the building. They had the windows open (or maybe rolled up) and with it being a nice night, made for a nice covered outdoor atmosphere. Parking can be tight but if you're a college student, stroll on over for a few drinks. read more

Had the pulled pork with au jus for lunch on a weekday. It was a late lunch and it wasn't very crowded at all. The sandwich was good but, unlike a true french dip, the burger-style bun made dipping it overly-complicated and messy. The sweetness of the pork, savory au jus, and carmelized onions didn't make a good deal of sense together. The fries were good, though. read more

Oh the memories. College Delly is, in fact, an institution. Thank you Whit r., I agree. While there is nothing remarkable about the food, decor, bar, etc, i have to credit them for keeping underage drinking/any-age drinking at William and Mary alive. Since they have been under new management, business has picked up and WM kids are flocking once again. I dont know why they stopped doing breakfast (starting at 2:15am), that was a brilliant business move. College is definitely the only establishment at which I have eaten, drank, laughed, cried, vomitted, gotten a concussion, made out, overdrawn my bank account on a bar tab, danced on a table, and shown up in costume on nights other than Halloween, and still been welcomed back with open arms. It was a late night when I popped into the College Delly-- looking for two things: a place to watch football and food. I came here with my coworker while on a business trip and luckily, we found both! When you step into the College Delly, you get the vibe that it's one of those places that an "ordering protocol". I had no idea what that protocol was so here it is. While there's a sign near the line that says "Order Here", you actually order at the register. There, the cashier writes up your order, sends it down the line and you can have a seat. If you're doing takeout, they'll call you when your order is ready. If you're eating there, cop a squat some place and someone will deliver your order when it's ready. There isn't quite waiter service, but someone will come by and ask if you need a refill on your drink. Feeling completely noob-tastic, I figured all of this out, after the fact. I am not a huge fan of football but can appreciate that the College Delly had plenty of big screen tv's throughout the joint, and on the patio. As for food, I had the French dip. Sadly, it wasn't that great. The steak was cut a bit too thick and was tough. FYI to the kitchen dwellers: cut your meat against the grain, not with it. If you cut with the grain, it's tough to eat. The fries weren't anything to scream about but were good nonetheless. Would I go back to College Delly? Possibly. May need field suggestions on sandwiches to try, since their menu is fairly substantial. read more

The College Delly is an institution. Good food, especially subs. My favorites are the Julie, the Three Way and the Chandler. Very hot, very good. They have plenty of good cold beer and they're open 'til two. Hands down better than Paul's Deli across the street, and definitely better parking. First off: seriously, Andrew K.? Williamsburg is "America's Lamest Town"? Clearly you've never been to Gatlinburg! And clearly you didn't do your research before you visited, either, or you'd know there are *tons* of restaurants in the 'Burg. That aside, College Delly is my least favorite of the three delis to choose from in Williamsburg. On it's own it's A-OK, but in comparison to the other two it's nothing special. The atmosphere is horrible: basic and blah and not a lotta personality. Altho it *does* have an outdoor patio which is a major bonus. It's impossible to get a seat out there on any day of the week/at any hour college kids would be out drinking, tho. So...pretty much Sunday - Monday any time after noon. Food's not as good as it is at Paul's or even the Leafe. Beer selection isn't as good, either. All the delis are Williamsburg institutions, and I think anyone who's spent any amount of time (quality time, not just passin' through time) has his or her clear favorite. Mine is and always has been Green Leafe. And College was always the deli of last resort. read more

I don't know about America's lamest town. Even though I spent my high school years thinking this, I sort of bristle at it now for some reason! The night life is admittedly not great, but there's stuff to do, and you can always go to Richmond or VA beach if you need a dance club. What I do know is that College Delly has this strangely simple "Three-Way" cheese sandwich that for some reason I love and crave. It sounds really gross on paper though. The sandwich as I like it consists of american, swiss, and provolone cheese, mayonnaise, and really thinly sliced dill pickles, on a big white sub roll. I know, right? I have no idea why this is so good to me. College Delly also used to have the cool, borderline snow-cone crushed ice that I love, but I don't think they do anymore. read more

If you are coming into Williamsburg at 2 in the morning with your mom, sister and your two sleeping babies STARVING this is your place. I ran in to get some food while all waited in the car..so I got to see all that Williamsburg had to offer at 2 am. Thought it was funny/bordering odd that you could calmly order a gyro on one side and there's a full blown party on the other... The owner was great, gyros fantastic, it was a place I won't soon forget. read more

The service is great and the atmosphere is even better. Sat outside on the patio and it was the perfect way to spend the evening- calm, relaxing atmosphere. On Thursday nights, there are $1 coronas from 7-9 pm. It was a great place to have a few drinks, some appetizers, and catch up with friends. During the school year, the bar area can become overwhelmingly crowded- but the bar tenders and servers do a much better job on having appropriate number of staff and quick service. The only down side is the bathroom is quite small (one toilet in the women's room and a toilet +1 urinal in the men's). This is a serious problem on crowded nights in the restaurant. The bathroom line can get out of hand. All in all, its just a college bar and a nice relaxing place to grab a drink in the summer. read more

Food was okay. Ordered a deluxe cheeseburger with no tomato. When it came out it only had lettuce, no pickle, onion, or condiments at all. It was definitely lacking. The College Delly is definitely a William & Mary student's last pick -- unless you're a frat brother, maybe -- which is probably the reason it's so popular with the rest of the Williamsburg crowd. I loved this place. With a HUGE menu of sandwiches, pizzas, strombolis, salads, pastas, and Greek items, College Deli is the perfect college hangout (and a great place for a hungry tourist). Every college town needs a place like this, and fortunately for William & Mary students this one is directly across the street from campus. I ordered the daily special, the Sailor, a delicious variation on a classic Reuben. With abundant pastrami, knockwurst, Swiss cheese, kraut, and a spicy mustard (instead of 1000 Island dressing), the Sailor is like a Reuben's cool cousin who is home on shore leave. The addition of knockwurst amped up the flavor to insane levels. This is without a doubt one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. We ate in the covered patio area, which was surprisingly toasty on a cold February day. When (not if) I return, I look forward to enjoying a summer evening with the cover off and a stromboli. If I were a William & Mary student, I'd be there every week. read more

Came here with my mom for lunch last Monday. We sat outside which was perfectly temperate, and had salads. I went for the greek salad, and it was AMAZING!!! It had spanikopita in it, along with stuffed grape leaves, and the traditional greek salad acoutrements. It was delicious, fresh, and filling. My mom had a chicken salad and she seemed pleased too. The salad is huge too which really helps to keep you full... which i appreciate lots. I wish i lived closer. This place is great! read more

Enormous portions ... surprisingly delicious for campus style food ... but the sticky floors will remind you of where you are! We enjoyed four separate entrees and found each to be of enormous quantity ... If I were an athlete at William and Mary and had a few extra bucks, this would be a place to frequent. The food is also surprisingly good. The blackened salmon was well cooked and nicely seasoned. The Italian sandwich was enormous and loaded with good meats and cheeses. On a warm, sunny fall day, it was a real pleasure to tour the campus and get lunch on the patio outside. The tacky stick-slick-schtick of our shoes on the tile floor made us wonder when the floors were last cleaned, or were they cleaned with beer? This is one of those places that when you move out of Williamsburg, you find yourself remembering it and missing it. Fortunately for me, I managed to move back, and within my first 24 hours back, I was here once again. The food is awesome, cheap and the atmosphere of the College Deli is hard to forget. If you're living in Williamsburg and you've yet to try them, you're missing out! Only down side here is that parking is a challenge here. Although I have no idea where they can put more parking.... Subs are large and I really like the bread they serve them on, however they are about $2.00 over priced for what you get. They also don't come with anything like chips or fries. Soft drinks are also over priced. I can agree with other posters about the poor service and the servers lack of personality/friendliness. We were there during an off peak time and still the server only came by 4 times- Once to take our order, to bring our drinks, to bring the food, to bring the check. Drinks sat empty for half the meal. I woud give the taste of the food a solid 4+, but the price and service drag the rating down. read more

This restaurant is the perfect place to stop for subs, burgers, pizza, Stromboli or pasta. I can see why it is a huge favorite of W&M students, because the portions are huge, the food delicious, and the price is very affordable - with many options under $10, which could easily be shared or split into two meals. We visited in the summer and found it very family friendly with great service! Will definitely be back on our next visit to Williamsburg. read more

Avoid. Not sure how this business is allowed to remain open. No soap dispenser in restroom, exposed electrical wire hang from ceiling and fruit flies swarming you as you try to go to the restroom. Old food on the floor everywhere, tables haven't been cleaned. The place is a wreck.... Owners should be ashamed !!!!!! read more

I looked up this restaurant on the Hampton Health Department website. The one that does inspections in Williamsburg. I could not find a listing for The College Delly. It's Saturday so I can't call to double check my findings. I am going to write this review because of my concern for public safety. This place should be condemned. With the stench and filth it is beyond my understanding how this place has not received a pulled permit. On the porch where we sat there is visible openings to open ground. It smells like patrons have used this area as a bathroom. The tables are so dirty they are sticky. I tried cleaning our table with my hand wipes and they still felt sticky. I witnessed one of the employees sitting at a table in the dining room with a huge vat of tzatziki dressing filling small containers to serve with salads, etc. Shouldn't there be a kitchen area to prepare such things? Why isn't there a review of inspection at the Hamden Health Department? I feel this restaurant is a danger to the public. Perhaps even a fire hazard. There should be steps taken to rebuild this property. I'm not surprised people may be using outdoor spots as a toilet. If I counted properly there is only ONE toilet in this restaurant that is located across the street from the William & Mary stadium. Imagine the crowd after the game looking for a cold drink. I hope my concern prompts some proper oversight to the awful conditions I witnessed at the College Delly read more

The staff was very very friendly on a very slow Friday. I had one of the specials which was a chicken and black bean wrap which was excellent. And we also ordered the mozzarella sticks which were perfect for greasy barfood. And my wife had a special pasta dish which was delicious. Not a happy camper. Tried to order food from College Deli through Grubhub only to find out that College Deli doesnt use GH because they don't have tablets (what??) although they are listed on GH. The GH order stated it was delayed for a half hour. I called College Deli and found out that the GH driver has to call them to have the order completed through Paul's Deli. What?? I asked to speak to a manager at CD to find out the status of my order and was told there wasn't one....really???? read more

As an out of town visitor was not impressed with service. Did not serve anything but subs or appetizers at 9:30 pm. Decided to take food back to hotel. Ended up Not getting soda we paid for because my son in law upset by slowness and rudeness of some staff. Hopefully they charged back after we left. Food was mediocre.
