I ordered the chili garlic wings with their house-made sauce, and they were outstanding, perfectly coated, not over-sauced or overpowering, just the right balance of bold flavor and heat. College bar with large selection of bar food and drinks. We visited Brickhouse Tavern on a Friday night, and it was mostly empty. Brickhouse Tavern has plenty of televisions for sports watching, but seems a bit run-down. The tables are chipped and there are holes in many of the booths. We split the fried pickles, and I tried the Baltimore zoo. The drinks are served in plastic cups. The Baltimore zoo definitely tasted like my college memories with simple flavors biased to the sweet side. The fried pickles themselves were decent but were perplexingly paired with a marinara sauce that did not complement the fried pickles at all. Overall, Brickhouse Tavern is a decent option as far as college bars go, but it is not a can't-miss destination. read more

I walked into the bar with every intention of having a good time, only to be met with immediate suspicion by a staff member who implied I or my friend on her way wasn't of legal drinking age--without so much as asking for my ID. Let's be clear: I am of age, and if there was any doubt, the simplest and most respectful thing to do would've been to request identification. Instead, I was met with attitude and condescension, in a tone that felt less like protocol and more like profiling. There were countless professional ways to handle that moment--say you're closing soon, let me know a specific item is unavailable, or simply ask for ID. But none of that happened. Just judgment and unnecessary energy. Being treated like I didn't belong was uncomfortable and disappointing, especially in a city that prides itself on hospitality. Came in as a large group and I personally was not impressed. We wanted to eat out but this place was our only option because every other restaurant in the area was full due to MW graduation. This place had good reviews but I'm starting to think that number comes from local college kids who come for cheap drinks. Starting with the food- you always know food is gonna be underwhelming when the menu is huge. We ordered burgers, pasta, and pizza but we all agreed that each of our dishes were nothing to write home about. Personally, I got the alfredo chicken pasta. Sauce was bland (it's hard to get quality Alfredo for cheap) and the chicken was sort of dry, as expected. The garlic bread was good but it's kinda hard to mess that up. I will note however that all of us felt that the portion of each meal was very generous and we all went home with lunch for the next day. As for the service- we were helped by a young girl who shared that it was her first week. She was sweet and did a very good job despite still learning. She had some help which was totally understandable- however, one of the staff members spilled a beer we had ordered (not much but still) and kinda just left the mess for us to deal with. I did note as well that everything was served with plastic cutlery, as if we had ordered to-go. Not sure if this is the usual but felt cheap. Overall the experience was very meh. Probably one of the worst dining experiences. We were in the area and wanted to get dinner before heading home. It was dead for a Friday night in a college area. My son's pizza came out soggy and refused to eat it. Our wings were very dry and not that good. We had ordered 20 wings and don't think we even ate half. The issue was when we were only brought out one ranch so we had to ask for another. Once the bill came we noticed a charge for the extra ranch. We asked our waitress why we got charged when we ordered 20 wings for two people and one wasn't going to be enough when they were in really small to go containers. She proceeded to talk to me like I was stupid showing me her tablet and at that point I was fed up and asked to speak to the manager. He rectified the situation after explaining to him the same thing I did to our waitress but at that point I had my mind made up about the place. We have never been charged for an extra ranch when ordering wings. And if we had ordered 10 wings each with the same flavor it would have included a ranch anyways. I was very annoyed about how the waitress handled the whole situation and we looove the Newport News location so it was super shocking how different these locations were when they are "owned by the same person". Tonight was the same Togo, we sat at the bar ordered some drinks(I got a non-alcoholic beer, which he didn't seem to like) while we waited, never had a problem with that before. Our bartender was visibly drunk and drinking behind the bar, saw at least twice he took a shot, visibly was disoriented, he let a patron throw ice at him and land in the ice well, showed our check and card to two different people that were sitting at the bar as well. Well, this place is interesting, so good luck. It has a late kitchen, so that is helpful when you are driving to the beach late, but this place really just caters to the college crowd with cheap drinks and decent pizza. Service was borderline at best and they got my order wrong the first time because I'm certain the waiter was not really listening. Most of the family got burgers which were below par across the board, as was the calamari appetizer. Should have known better, this is a pizza place, it is what they do. Anything else would be a risk ... However, once they got my pizza correct (gluten free crust and no cheese ... I know... why I rarely get pizza) it was actually very good! Was pleasantly surprised. The pizza looks good in the picture, however it was one of the strongest pizzas I've had. It seemed like they used one size of dough and don't had anymore dough when stuffed crust is requested. The crust was huge but the bottom of the pizza under the small amount of toppings was paper thing and kept falling apart from the grease. If the crust is going to be that thick you need more dough so the bottom can be thicker. All of the upcharges were overpriced. We ordered garlic flavor on the crust which was $3 and it was basically just garlic powder. I'd recommend just sticking to a regular pizza and not adding flavor or stuffed crust because it is overpriced and a normal pizza would likely have been better. read more
