Stopped here for lunch on our way back home and I can't wait to go back it was that delicious. Two of us ordered the Bolognese Pappardelle and the other a foot long meat ball sub. It's the best Pappardelle I have ever eaten and the sauce was perfection with large chunks of the most tender beef. I only wish I had ordered an extra few to take home. Service was excellent as are the prices for the generous servings. Crusty fresh warm bread was served while we were waiting for our entrees. Definitely make a point of eating here if you find yourself in Williamsburg. read more

Meh. This place is big and crowded so you might assume that the food and service were outstanding. Not the case. This can only be described as American Italian New Jersey style. Sure the dishes have familiar Sicilian names, but thats where it ends. Service is also less than impressive. Our waiter was doing us a favor to serve us and we felt rushed and an inconvenience go his day. Plenty if parking if you are interested in mediocre Italian American grub. So we came to Williamsburg to bring in the new year at Marriott Ford's Colony. For our meal for the first night we chose Sals by Victor this was a delivery by DoorDash. Our meals my sister got the sampler, my chicken Alfredo and myself The lobster ravioli. We thought everything was good the lobster ravioli was decadent although I felt that it would have been better for the lobster meat itself to be on pasta with a cream sauce of sorts. My mom's fettuccine noodles were thick but had good flavor wasn't her favorite. My sister enjoyed her sampler and soup but said it needed salt all in all not bad for a first meal. read more

From starving to stuffed! This place is the real deal! Best eggplant Parmesan I've had in years! Also the pasta was really good! But the best thing on the menu is the homemade tiramisu! Enjoy our dinner here today. It's a big restaurant, but because of the spatial division it doesn't feel that big. Our room was beautifully decorated with pictures of Italy. We were enjoying our dinner, we had the Pizza Margarita and Vegetariano (the dough was fantastic), the Mussels and the half Italien Sandwich, Onion-rings, Garlic knots and a Salat. With drinks we paid $98 w/o tip. The food was really good and the red house wine was so good that we even bought a bottle to take it home. Why only 4 stars? The place is huge and packed on a Tuesday evening. Despite that, our waitress was super and waiting time for getting our food was minimal. All of our food was some of the best Italian I have had . Best of all, our bill for this outstanding experience was far less than expected...a true gem of value. My only disappointment is that I live 1,000 miles away. read more

My wife and I are from out of town, and choose this place from a search for Italian. She ordered her usual lasagna and I ordered my usual spaghetti and meatballs. Our thoughts are if you can't do the basics right, you can't do anything else. She thought her lasagna was pretty good, kind of tomato-y and a little salty. My spaghetti was not bad, but okay. I would order something different next time. The side salad are a good size and a basket of bread is complimentary. With this being a grabby tourist area, sweet tea would be nice to offer as a drink. We went for Linner (lunch/dinner) around 3pm on a rainy afternoon. The service was fantastic! The place was cute with little Italian touches. Try the homemade red wine vinegar/olive oil dressing on the table with the soft bread they serve. Amazing! Our meal were delicious. The garlic knots were OK, but everything else was perfection. Delicious food the bread was the perfect crunch out soft inside, the oil and red vinegar mixture I ended up eating two baskets it's that fresh. I got the 4 cheese tortellini and my date got chicken Marsala and a sangria, my food was rich in cheese sauce the tortellini was hot and the perfect texture, I used the bread to sop up the last of the sauce. My dates were just as delicious, the server was very attentive despite the place filling up at the dinner time rush. Not the type of restaurant you would find in a strip mall...We were staying about a mile away and were looking for places to eat. I came upon Sals menu and reviews. Decided to stop. The restaurant is deceivingly large. We arrived around 4:00 on a Saturday and were promptly seated. It was my youngest son, wife, and I. My youngest had chicken Alfredo, my wife had cavatoni alla capri, and I had the chicken francese. Each meal came with either soup or salad. We ordered a small batch of garlic bread to go with our meal. Portions were the perfect size. Not too much to be uncomfortable but you wouldn't be hungry in an hour. The chicken in my soup was plentiful. My dinner was outstanding. The service was impeccable. I only wish I had room to eat dessert. I can't recommend Sals enough. Next time I'm in Williamsburg and craving Italian food, I will certainly stop by. You don't want to miss out eating here. read more

5 Starts do not come close to how amazing this place is. The severs are so personable, helpful on the wine,food and desserts. This was so good we visited twice in 4 days. Pizza ia about as close to NY style you will find in the area. The chicken parm was the best I have ever had. The amount of food for the price is unbelievable. How the mighty have fallen. When we were investigating places to eat in the beginning of the year, this had been a favorite. I know that things have gotten expensive but sheesh, the prices here have gotten exponentially higher...but sadly the food quality isn't worth the price. We had planned on going to another place for dinner but it was closed. We were close enough to Sal's and thoughty why not, it's usually good food. Sigh. When we got there, they first took us all the way you the back of the restaurant usually for banquets and large tables. It was just the 3 of us. We wondered who we offended. It was very very warm in this room so we asked to move. We were seated right at the kitchen. Okaaaaay. We kept our order simple. I just got spaghetti with marinara, my niece got the special cacio de pepe, my mom got the flounder francaise. The cacio was ravioli in a heavy alfredo-esque sauce.... absolutely NO pepe. She had to pepper it heavily. The flounder came DROWNED in butter. It was supposed to be a light white wine & butter sauce. Nope. While my pasta was pretty basic, the sauce left much to be desired as it was far too sweet. Such a shame! This had been our go to Italian place. Even the wine changed. The house montepuliciano was just awful when before I wondered how they turned a profit with a $5 pour. Now it's double that price and a whole different quality. I feel so sad as it had been some of the best Italian in the area. Save the $$. Seek Italian elsewhere until they get their kitchen back in order. read more

Our lunch started out nice. We ordered a bottle of Moscato and cheese bread with marinara. Both were very delicious! Unfortunately, this was the highlight of the lunch. I ordered the Penne alla Vodka with chicken. It was beautifully presented. I just wished it tasted as good as it looks. There was absolutely no taste! I only knew I was eating because I felt food in my mouth. I sent the penne back and ordered a calzone. There was no improvement. Perhaps, the kitchen was having a bad day. Enjoyed a wonderful lunch special for $16.99 which included a delicious salad, entree and dessert, all beautifully prepared. It's not rocket science - go somewhere and eat a $15 sandwich at lunch or enjoy this fabulous Italian meal for $2 more! We will definitely return many more times. read more

This place is basically a cafeteria with service. Think a step above Olive Garden. The seating areas are cavernous. This is made for large groups and filling stomachs quickly. We came in and were seated all the way in the very back of the restaurant. Our waiter blazed through the menu, telling us what was best to order. We took his reccs. Our appetizer ended up being superbland, unseasoned tomatoes with a slice of mozz and a few shreds of basil. The side salads were iceberg lettuce with a basic cherry tomato and a few slices of cucumber. All of our meals were...fine. I got a sangria that wasn't drinkable. As we finished up the waiter scraped our plates onto another plate AT THE TABLE. Gross. I had to put on a happy face for my family because I dragged them here. Sal's by Victor is a nice and cozy restaurant that is surprisingly spacious than how it appears from the outside. It's a great place to take family, friends, or colleagues for dinner/lunch as they offer a gigantic menu that honestly could cover all the kinds of eaters out there. They have different varieties of pasta dishes for different kinds of proteins including vegetarian options. They also have non-pasta dishes like pizza, strombolis, calzones, subs, burgers, soups and so on. They also have a decent selection for desserts. You get both italian and non-italian options. Whatever you may fancy for the day! Our service in particular was on the slower side, but the food made up for the wait! My pasta was just the right al dente, our appetizer was also very tasty. You get a basket of bread and butter as well to go with your meal. The place also offers other items for sale like tomato sauces, wines and other items that appear to be imported from Italy or with relevance to Italian cuisine. When I first seen the place I was a little skeptical because it was located in a strip mall. I'm not used to seeing a larger restaurant in setting like this. I'm glad I gave it a try, we walk in and the restaurant is very busy, but we were seated immediately. Our server was on top of things from the time we sat down until we left. I got Victor's Sampler and it was delicious! The food was served hot and had a wonderful flavor. I finished the whole plate and probably should've stopped before that point. Still a solid 4 stars for all the reasons in my previous 2 reviews - so be sure to read them - both reviews even after all these years are still pretty darn accurate, I have to say. Which should tell you that Sal's has consistently good, quality AUTHENTIC ITALIAN FOOD (I've seen the owner and his family with my own eyes lol - they are true Italians!) in a clean, comfortable, nicely decorated interior space. The vibe and ambiance are inviting, homey and casual. It all adds up to a two thumbs-up in a college town that has a decent number of dining options but, honestly, only really a handful of full service restaurants around campus that offer quality food and decent portion sizes at reasonable prices. Sal's has been around a while and is just solid, plain ol', good ol' down home Italian comfort food with decent prices (though prices have definitely gone up here sadly). No shrinkflation here though. They have not skimped on food quality and quantity / portion sizes which I appreciate. This time, I dined solo. It was a Monday night and the place was hoppin' but no wait for a 2-top. I was seated right away. I have to say this is one restaurant that is HUGE with LOADS of seating / tables. They can accommodate a TON of parties. No contest. Even with a MONSTER of a menu, I went right to my favorite - homemade Pappardelle Al Ragu ($20.99) - imo THE BEST PASTA ON THE MENU (under "Pasta Favorites"). Whenever I come here, when I'm in the area every so often, THIS IS MY GO-TO. And it never disappoints. Highly recommend. Most entrees come with bread and a garden salad. Both nothing special. Adequate. (Not a knock. I'll take it, it's free!) TIP: Elevate the bread basket experience a notch by asking for their olive oil (which is not out on the table - you have to ask for it) and grated parm cheese (also have to ask for it) and make yourself a small plate of OO-parm-shake-of-pepper-shake-of-salt dipping sauce. MWAH!!! I ordered a glass of their house red wine with my meal. A generous pour and a perfect meal accompaniment. The generously portioned and sauced Pappardelle Al Ragu came out piping hot. Rich flavors. DEEEELICIOUS. This is a full service place you can visit as a solo diner and not feel uncomfortable eating by yourself, like everyone is staring at you lol. Service is very good. It's obvious the servers have been there for years and are loyal to the business. It may take you a minute to get your server's attention at times but they don't ever rush you to turn tables. Just be patient, hold your horses, relax, take a deep breath; have a sip of wine and enjoy your meal! :) Pay your bill at the front entrance. Party of one, my bill was $32.46 including tax and tip. We came here while on vacation in the area. You walk in to a very busy entry way and you pay at the register and they have a small retail area for wines and packaged foods and the take out counter. It is a fairly large restaurant and pretty busy. Service is quick and attentive. I started with the fried calamari and ordered the chicken Marsala. The calamari was large and very tender and light battered, very good. The Marsala has 3 Large breasts and a plateful of linguini pasta. The dish could have been seasoned more but was ok. I then had a Bomba for dessert and it was very good. A very good meal. read more

Sal's has easy parking and a central location in Williamsburg, VA., and offers online ordering and pickup. It's always busy but usually worth the wait. I enjoy several of their pasta dishes and on occasion get the pizza. I would recommend you ask for the pizza cooked well done, otherwise, it's not crispy enough for my liking. I've had two pies recently that were pretty much undercooked and the side of sauce was the only reason I'm not as mad as I should be. The worst thing for me when it comes to food, is an underdone pizza with doughy too soft crust. :( read more

My neighbors and I have been trying pizza from the restaurants in Williamsburg, so this review and rating focus on pizza only. We recently went to Sal's and ordered three pies: Cheese, Vegetable, and Victor's Combination: The Works. All were a large size. The sauce was somewhat sweet, which we like, and the amount of cheese was good. The toppings were fresh and plentiful. My favorite was the simple cheese pizza. For me, the works just had too much going on: pepperoni, sausage, onions, green peppers, and mushrooms. My husband, on the other hand liked all the toppings. The crust tasted good on the ends, but it was too thin to support the pizza and just vanished as we tried to pick it up. Service was friendly and efficient. The dining area is large, and as a group of six we were seated in a back room that seemed designed for large groups. The front room looked more intimate and relaxing. Overall, we liked Sal's just fine. It's convenient to the historic area and William & Mary. It's a good spot for families. read more

Didn't enjoy my food as much as I could have. Next time asked for a booth & dinner was much more enjoyable. The ambiance is so "Italian" & enjoyed. The food was excellent. I had chicken Marsala and my wife had the smoked chicken ravioli. Absolutely scrumptious! My son had pepperoni pizza, which he thoroughly enjoyed. The tiramisu and limoncello cake were excellent as well. Kiki was an excellent hostess and treated us very well. The interior ambiance was beautiful. It was nice just to sit inside and look at all of the paintings adorning the walls. It looks much smaller on the outside than it actually was on the inside. I threw a surprise birthday party for my husband celebrating a milestone day for him. Hosting twenty one people is difficult to do including copious wine, pizza, and a special cake. Everyone had so much fun even before we enjoyed the wine. This establishment has been here for so many years that the locals have known about it before it expanded. We got a variety of wines for each table and then a variety of different pizzas for each table. The men loved the meat pies while the women enjoyed the vegetables one along with a small white. The other table had more people and therefore more variety but we all knew each other and had such camaraderie. read more

The Stromboli was hot and ready to go when they said it would be and it was delicious. We had the meat lovers minus ham and it was stuffed full and all the ingredients tasted great.
