I gave Giuseppe 5 stars! We attended a Celebration of Life here on a Sunday ( normally a day that they are closed). One of the owners has Celiac . When she noticed I was getting only salad , she said she would take care of me since I needed Gluten Free. She brought a specially prepared plate of 3 items that were all delicious. What a relief to know that the restaurant knows protocols about safe eating with GF food! She also brought out a sweet treat - a chocolate torte that was yummy! My gluten eating family members said there food selections were also excellent! She even said they are taking their chef to Italy to learn more about true Italian recipes. The "concept" was smaller portions (and higher prices). My Italian grandma would be embarrassed having someone walk out of her home hungry as we did. A younger lady walked up to the gentleman helping us saying she has someone she would have to call first if a table came available. Odd given that it wasn't actually a reservation. Their name wasn't written down and they weren't waiting to be seated. We had our whole party there. He then stated he needed to check one thing and if we could wait out in the lobby area. The lady didn't even make eye contact with us or anything just seemed like she was annoyed with us being there. Just a very unfriendly and awkward situation. We waited...and waited... we actually decided to walk ourselves out to find the gentleman coming out to our car saying they had space. We walked back and they were still cleaning the table which was fine. Our waitress was extremely kind. Served us some fresh bread but it wasn't even enough for us all to share. Just a tiny brown bag with a few slices of bread. We ordered and waited. Food came out nice and hot. Unfortunately the portions were extremely small given the price point...I've been seeing that it's a new concept but unfortunately we came in hungry and left hungry. Giuseppe's holds a special place in my stomach. I absolutely adore the owner, chefs, and wait staff. You feel so incredibly special when you dine here, and if you come more than once they are sure to remember you and make you part of their family. The atmosphere is always so joyful, bright, warm, and engulfing. But it's the food that we want and they assuredly do not skimp. My latest wine dinner was hallow ween themed and oh my so delicious. The wines were so on point, every one was a burst of new flavors for me. Then the food , oh the food. I've been to many of their dinners but I always fail at getting pictures of each course because I'm having such a great time. Tonight I did it! Lol. The presentation, the flavors, the back story, oh my! Getting into one of these special wine dinners is not easy, you need to prebook, no day of walk ins. Giuseppe's Italian Restaurant & Bar -- Williamsburg, VA We've been longtime customers of Giuseppe's, and our visit last night was disappointing. The service was friendly and attentive, but the food and the new menu changes didn't justify the higher prices or smaller portions. The Lentil Soup ($6) is still excellent -- easily the best part of the meal. My Shrimp Tortelloni al Limone ($18) was flavorful, but the shrimp were tiny and the portion felt more like an appetizer. My husband's Fig & Arugula salad was small and basic for $9. His Chesapeake Bay Cioppino was $40 and also a small portion; the calamari was overcooked and chewy, though the broth tasted good. The focaccia served with the entrées was unexpectedly salty and crunchy. Dessert -- the Lemon Olive Oil Cake -- was the highlight. It was a generous slice and genuinely delicious, but at $11, it should be. Our waitress explained that the menu had changed: fewer dishes, smaller portions, and a shift toward "how they eat in Italy." The issue is that while portions may be smaller in Italy, prices there are lower, not higher. The new menu feels limited and expensive, and the hearty meals Giuseppe's used to serve -- like their large meatball entrée with pasta and soup or salad -- are gone. We didn't take home a single leftover, which says a lot. From a heart‑healthy standpoint, the menu is extremely limited. The Cioppino was the only dish that could be considered heart‑healthy, and even that likely had a high‑sodium broth. Most other entrées rely on cream sauces or fatty meats. For a special occasion dinner, nothing felt special. The food was just OK, the portions were small, and the menu is now limited and pricey. I recommend checking the menu before going. Sadly, we miss the days when Giuseppe's served hearty, comforting, meals that tasted like something grandma used to make. NOTE TO THE OWNER: Remove photos of items that aren't available anymore such as meatballs and pasta, linguine with white clam sauce, and fettucine alfredo along with pictures showing a slab of tiramisu. Also, consider putting comment card on the table so your customers can give you immediate feedback. read more

The six of us really enjoyed dinner. We were in Williamsburg from New York and saw excellent reviews, so we decided to try Guiseppe's. We were not disappointed. Our pistachio mortadella pizza was excellent (high marks coming from NYC) and the caccio and pepe gnocchi was delicious. The veal Marsala was tender and lovely, and my wife said her eggplant parm was delicious. We shared the decadent chocolate torte fans a tiramisu for dessert... both excellent. And our server, Susan, was highly attentive and super friendly. With a premium bottle of wine and a generous gratuity, we left $265 lighter than when we arrived, which felt like a very good value. My husband and I have been loyal customers of Guseppi's for at least 15 years. We've celebrated family dinners and special occasions here, and it has always been one of our favorite restaurants. That's why writing this review is genuinely disappointing. The recent menu changes have completely changed the experience--and not for the better. Be prepared to pay more and receive less. My husband's favorite meal was always the Eggplant Parmesan. It has now been reduced to an appetizer-sized portion, and the eggplant is deep-fried. It simply isn't the same dish that kept us coming back for years. I ordered my longtime favorite pasta dish, and the portion was noticeably smaller than before. Even worse, the sausage was burnt. It was incredibly disappointing. The homemade bread was another letdown. We each received only one slice, and it was hard, dry, and lacked flavor. We also missed the little touches that made the meal special--there was no Parmesan cheese and crushed red pepper to accompany the olive oil. I understand that restaurants sometimes need to update menus or respond to rising costs, but these changes feel completely out of touch with what made Guseppi's so beloved. The old saying, "If it isn't broken, don't fix it," comes to mind. After 15 years of loyalty, I'm honestly heartbroken. We have hosted countless family dinners and celebrations here over the years because we trusted the quality and consistency. Sadly, this experience has convinced us that we won't be returning unless these changes are reconsidered. I truly hope the owners listen to the many longtime customers who fell in love with the original menu, generous portions, and warm dining experience. Had she explained any of what you mentioned, it would have been extremely helpful. A "the pasta you are ordering is small in nature/more of like an appetizer portion" would have been extremely helpful. Sadly none of that occurred. Everyone at our table looked at my dish and said the same thing "you got ripped off". I have nothing against change. Had been to several long standing restaurants in my time, that of course, must change with the times. I have nothing against that. Perhaps maybe making sure all staff are on the same page with customers could prevent incidents like this from happening. A simple "have you dined with us before? You have, welcome back. Some things may have changed since your last visit here" and have that dialog with them. She did not. I wish your restaurant the very best. I meant to write this review a couple of days ago, my wife and I visited on Monday. The special was very good, it was a strip loin with manchego tortellini, mixing the meat with the cheese was perfect. The mussels are a favorite of my wife's and they are delicious. The place grew to be busy but the service was excellent. The restaurant always is very clean and has a great look to it. It has become a favorite for us when we want Italian and we live over a half hour away. read more

Very disappointing after seeing a high rating. I ordered a side Caesar salad before my entree and waited at least 20 minutes for it. The waiter said Caesar salads take a long time to make. I've made them and disagree. My entree was linguini with clams. The clams were sandy; small portion of linguini and too salty. My partner's chicken parmesan (sp?) was a small portion also. Prices don't reflect the sizes. The service was very slow and we watched diners who came in after us be served courses first. read more

My friend and I came to Carbo load before the Richmond Half marathon. Giuseppe's does not disappoint! We split the spaghetti & meatballs and pest gnocchi for dinner. The salad that was included was very fresh. For dessert, we split the seasonal lemon raspberry tiramisu, which was so unique but refreshing and delicious! The owner? stopped by the greet us and asked how we liked the dessert. Fast and great service, delicious food for reasonable prices (we're coming from the DC area). Fabulous! We looked like a classless group of pedestrians from Great Wolf Lodge (because, well...we were...but if I'm spending Lodge prices on food I want something that really satisfies). Despite our appearance, we were treated graciously and seated promptly without having a reservation. Service was efficient, warm, and helpful, without being sappy or condescending. The food was comforting and fresh. Really enjoyed the aglio olio. The flavors were simple and sung. Several hours later, I feel full with a happy tummy... no sign of the discomfort and bloating that's all too common after I eat food made with processed, cheap ingredients or that's not perfectly fresh. The proof is in how I feel a few hours later. Giuseppe's means good, clean food. I feel great! Highly recommend this spot for a lovely night out. Try to dress better than we did, though. read more

I recently went to Giuseppe's in order to get their delicious blackened chicken Primavera. I was greeted by the hostess stand, and they were so warm and inviting. The dining room was decorated in a festive manner, and I felt quite at home. I had a little weight for my table to be ready, but I didn't wait too long. The survey came out and brought the menu and took our drink orders. She asked if there were any appetizer requests and she offered a couple of suggestions. We decided to get the chicken wings as it was for us to eat while we looked at the rest of the menu. The drinks came out and soon after the wings came out. They were cooked to perfection. We asked for buffalo sauce on the side and they honored our request. We were able to dip the freshly fried wings in the sauce and it was absolutely delicious. While we were eating that server came over and took our entrée orders. Everyone got the blackened chicken Primavera as it is one of their greatest dishes. The food came out, hot and ready. Everything was fresh, and the Alfredo sauce was freshly made. It was extra caretaking because it was so creamy and it coated every piece of the dish. The squash zucchini were tender but tooth. The broccoli was fresh. The blackened chicken was cooked appropriately, and the entire dish warmed our hearts. We save room for dessert and got the fried dough that came with the different sauces. They were absolutely fantastic. If you're in the area and want some local fair, please come to Giuseppe's. They offered Italian cuisine that is not the chain restaurant experience. read more

We asked Jamie at the MVC resort (where we are staying) for a great place to celebrate our wedding anniversary. She sent us to Giuseppe's and wow did they deliver! Our reservation was for 6pm but not knowing where it was or how long it would take to get there, we got there before five! The place was packed shortly after they opened at five. We asked a young girl (Kennedy) if we could dine with them sooner than our reservation. Regardless of her age, she was as welcoming as a grandma welcomes a beloved grandchild! Great first impression!! Kennedy also assisted our server Sarah. They were both great and very attentive. We each had the most amazing lentil soup ever. We shared one large Caesar salad topped with fresh anchovies. The salad was large enough for two to enjoy. I highly recommend the scallop entre (with an Italian spin). I am already craving it again. My husband consumed homemade pasta with his chicken Marsala. Once I tried one strand of his pasta, I felt like a pup--I couldn't stop begging for more! For dessert, we shared a cherry chocolate treat. The owner went around to every table talking to EVERY patron. He knew most of the patrons by name. They all seemed to be close friends. He spent a little more time at our table getting to know us, since we were new to the restaurant. It seemed everyone loved him and the employees. We felt this was not just a meal but an experience. If you want to be enveloped in love and love your food at the same time, Giuseppe's has it all. As we were waiting for our bill, a patron walked over to our table and shared she had just taken care of our bill and left a generous tip as well to celebrate our wedding anniversary! She must have heard us discussing with server. Can't make this up! That's the type of patrons who eat here. Delicious food, friendly staff, and a cozy atmosphere made Giuseppe's a great choice for family dinner on a Friday evening. Every member of my party ordered something different and we all left full and happy. We had reservations but half of our group arrived early. We planned to have a drink or two at the bar until our table was ready, but our server was able to seat us immediately and got us started on drinks and appetizers. The absolutely charming owner chatted with us and made us feel very welcome and comfortable. We ended up ordering a variety of sides and entrees including the homemade pappardelle, meatballs, eggplant parmesan, shrimp scampi, gnocchi, salads, and soups. The were very accommodating for dietary requests, and everything was excellent, so fresh and flavorful. In particular their tomato sauce, the absolute backbone of any Italian restaurant, was one of the best I've had. We even discovered a new favorite bottle of wine at the recommendation of our server!
