I am a big lover of a good gyro, and always wanted to try more Greek cuisine. So color me surprised when I found an authentic place while on the drive It was not disappointing. We had some saganaki as an appetizer, and it was PERFECT! I highly recommend it for anyone trying this place out! For entrees, I got the Dolmades, and Dad got the Pasta Kotopuolo. My domades blew me away, and Dad got his first taste of Greek food in a few good years and he said he loved it! I got a few bites of his too, and I swear I died and went to heaven, it was too good! We also got some Greek lemon potatoes, and any chance to have potatoes is a good day! Pretty good portion sizes with everything, too! We also got my little cousin a gyro to go, and it DID NOT disappoint! The place was very fancy-looking, and had Greek music playing throughout the restaurant, so it really felt very cool and interesting! So let's start with the positives. Accessible parking, nicely decorated interior and a friendly and helpful waiter. We ordered scordalia (Greek penicillin) as our appetizer and it came with Pita. It was a large portion and had good flavors of garlic and lemon. One of the specials of the day was the boneless marinated leg of lamb ( Arniso Boutaki Me Meli). My wife and I both ordered it and boy were we disappointed. It came with seasonal vegetables and lemon potatoes. What we got was tough grey lamb with a sauce that looked reminiscent of Salisbury steak. It didn't have much flavor and it was NOT tender. I cook lamb frequently and this was horrible. I could guarantee it was most likely microwaved and not braised in a rich sauce like it should be. We came after a long day exploring Williamsburg and we were so so hungry. The only real edible part was the vegetables. Also I wish they would give you more than 3 potato wedges. The potato could also use more of a lemon flavor it was hardly noticeable. Kephi is the BEST Greek restaurant in the region, if not one of the best in the State. It's NOT a typical Gyro and fries joint. It's true fine Greek cuisine, Mediterranean. This is a good solid restaurant. They have a great display when you walk in of theor olive oil and other Greek specialties. The food was pretty good although the appetizers were kind of on the small side for the price. They have a nice selection of Greek wines. This place uses no seed oils, whereas we were next-door as a recommendation and they would not , could not accommodate me from my seed oil allergy This place cooks in olive oil strictly. We have driven by this place so many times and never stopped....until today. We wanted something different. The inside is so nice! At first I thought there was a dress code and I was concerned given I was wearing shorts...but the hostesses welcomed us in. It's been a while since we ate in the restaurant. Their takeout family meals are so good and generous we usually get those. We stopped in for lunch on a Saturday, and although the restaurant was busy, service was as friendly and welcoming that it felt like we were the only customers. Because of the layout of the restaurant, even busy, it's quiet enough to easily have conversations. We started with the tzatziki, creamy and garlicky, with lovely fresh pita. For our mains, we had the boneless leg of lamb, the lamb shank, and the shrimp with pasta. Both the leg of lamb and the shank were so tender, delicious, and perfectly spiced, and the shrimp was cooked beautifully. The shrimp and lamb shank were served with a lightly sauced spaghetti, with a tiny hit of heat at the end. The leg of lamb came with vegetables and potatoes, and was plated beautifully. Portions are generous but get some house-made desserts to take home. This restaurant is just a delight. It feels like the best of an old fashioned family place, but with high standards that are more than met. read more

I remember really liking this place the last time I came but this time it kind of missed a lot of marks. First of all, they ran out of the swordfish special so I ordered the whole branzino at market price ($38). My mom was able to get the last swordfish but it only tasted all right to me. The branzino was nothing special either. The skin wasn't crispy and they make you take it apart yourself, I had to add a lot of salt and pepper to it as it was kind of tasteless. The best part of our meal was the Kephi Cold Pikilia which was three dips, dolmades, and pita bread. This was good! But I do wish the pita bread was a little more toasted. Then for service, we were waiting for ages for our food to come out and then finally pay at the end. We literally had to get up from our table to try to find someone so that we could pay. Nice servers, but weirdly overwhelmed even though the restaurant wasn't busy. I don't need to come back any time soon. read more

From the moment we walked in, it felt like we were transported right back to the little tavernas we loved in Greece - warm hospitality, the smell of oregano and grilled meat in the air. Huge chunks of perfectly ripe tomatoes, crisp cucumbers, red onion, green peppers, a generous slab of feta (not crumbled, the proper way), Kalamata olives, and drenched in their house olive oil. Simple, but executed so well it made us close our eyes and smile. For mains we went big: * The house specialty Lamb shank over pasta - absolute winner. The meat was fall-off-the-bone tender, the pasta soaked up every bit of that rich, lemony, tomato-y sauce. I'm still thinking about it. * The nightly special: pork tenderloin stuffed with feta and Kalamata olives, served with mashed potatoes and seasonal veggies. Insanely good. The salty punch of the feta/olive filling with the juicy pork was next-level, and those mashed potatoes were creamy, garlicky perfection. Pro tip: Call ahead for reservations! We called a few days ahead and snagged one of the last weekend tables - the place was packed (always a good sign). Service was friendly, attentive, and genuinely Greek-warm without being overbearing. FANTASTIC! We were in the area and came across this location on Yelp. Many people said great things about Kephi. So we decided to try them out. It was myself and my family. Parking is easy to navigate. Once inside the hues of blue surrounded us. We were seated immediately. We place an order of just about everything, especially when it came to dessert. We tried to order all different things so we can have a taste of just about everything. Everything was fantastic and very authentic. Our server was awesome. He was very attentive. He was very helpful to another table who were having trouble navigating the menu. The desserts.. .the desserts! There is so many to choose from. There are many cookies, cakes, pies ect. We went up to the case to take a look at everything and placed our order that way. The desserts were also very authentic. Overall Kephi is on the list for Williamsburg eats. I was excited to find a Greek restaurant on the peninsula. We ordered take out. Moussaka $19 & spanakopita $11 were pretty good. I was surprised the moussaka didn't come with a salad or bread at that price. I was even more disappointed with the portion of the chicken kebab. One kabob, some rice and a few pieces of broccoli for $28.75! That is a ridiculous price for the portion size. It didn't even come with tzatziki or bread or a salad. Kephi is a wonderful authentic Greek spot with personal touches that make you feel like you're in a cozy restaurant no matter how busy they are. We've been here multiple times and each time was amazing. Most recently we had traditional gyros for lunch and shared a traditional dessert from the extensive dessert case. The two of us are not so familiar with the Greek menu and their ad in a Williamsburg magazine included Mediterranean Cuisine in their description. The menu has many Greek words that were "Greek to me!" The waitress was also new, so that wasn't a great help. For an appetizer I indulged in SCORDALIA (GREEK PENICILLIN) with warm Pita bread which was great. It was a large portion and more Pita bread was given upon my request. They have an extensive Greek wine list. The organic white wine I had was very good and I had never tasted Greek wine. My Entree was PASTA GARIDES: LARGE SHRIMP SAUTÉED IN OLIVE OIL WITH ROMA TOMATOES, FRESH GARLIC AND GRATED CHEESE. SERVED OVER PASTA. I enjoyed it. We noticed many cars in this Greek restaurant parking lot and decided the food must be really good. We ordered gyros which is listed as beef and lamb. Neither of us could taste any lamb. The server told us that the meat was marinated and that's why we couldn't taste the lamb??? No way was it marinated the meat was tasteless and tough to chew. My husband choked on a piece of that cow hide. Thankfully he was able to cough it up. The only thing that was tasty on this awful gyro was the tzatziki sauce. Ate here again and sadly this place really missed the mark. Decided to try the gyro again, that maybe the first time was an off-night. Meat still not good or flavorful. I think being a Greek restaurant you should be able to do decent gyro meat. Hostess was rude, and then ended up giving us the specials menu from the night before. Why would you still have those out on the hostess stand? The worst past is that two of our guests ordered them and was not informed by our waitress that they didn't have those specials that evening till almost a half hour after we had ordered. Bad service. For lunch, one of my group had a Greek salad, which she liked and another had a burger with fries. Both appreciated the meal and were well satisfied. I personally thought that it looked better than it tasted I was hoping for more raspberry flavor and a lot more pistachio flavor. On the pricy side it was around $16 for the 2. We have had the fried cheese and the Kephi Cold Pikilia for appetizers, the lamb shank and lamb Gyros and the bell and baklava cheesecake. The Good The Pikilia is very interesting. Several different flavors to taste and a nice variety of traditional Greek dips. I am glad I tried it but I would only order again if I was in the mood. The Great The lamb euros are fantastic and the bell dessert is among the best desserts we have ever had at a restaurant. I may want to try a few more entrees on the menu but I would always be in the mood for their euros. We won't ever go there and not order the bell. The Meh I was very excited to try the fried cheese and the baklava cheesecake both fell short of expectations. Not bad just not as good as the other items in the menu. Service They are always busy (food is good) but it hasn't taken long to be seated or served. Service has always been good. Ambiance I've taken the family there and been there on a double date. Ordered a chicken gyro, ALL fat, no seasoning, no flavor, can't believe we paid to literally toss the majority of the whole order in the trash. We visited this restaurant twice during our stay in Williamsburg. Soft background music is a mixture of Greek folk music and Greek pop music. The restaurant is quiet enough to hold a conversation. My wife is Greek, she thought the food was very close to her mother's cooking. The entrees we had were fantastic. The lamb shank was perfectly prepared. The crab cakes had a lot of crab meat and very little filler. The lamb chops were excellent. The beef kebab was fantastic and beautifully served. The portions are very generous The deserts are out of this world. We had excellent service from our waiter Andrew. Everyone was extremely polite. We'd eaten here several years ago, and the food was mediocre at best, but we decided to give it another chance today. I really regret doing that. tl; dr: Worst service ever. We arrived for lunch around 1:15pm. The main dining room was moderately full, but almost everyone either had food already, or empty plates. Apparently, we'd missed the peak of lunch hour, so there were no excuses for what followed... We sat at our table for over 10 minutes before a server even appeared. By that time, we already knew everything we wanted, so we ordered waters, mixed drinks, an appetizer, and two entrees. We waited for another 10 minutes with nothing at all but our napkins, before the server finally brought some water. (Dear Kephi: If a customer has been seated for 20 minutes, and doesn't even have water yet, you're doing something wrong.) Maybe this would have been fine so long as the server was cool or apologetic about it, but they were completely unapologetic, with not even a hint of any acknowledgement of how terrible their service had been so far. We waited another 10 to 15 minutes, with nothing but our two waters... (So it has now been 20+ minutes total since we'd ordered our drinks. Also, this whole time, the bartender is just standing at the bar, doing nothing.) With no end in sight, and having been seated for over 30 minutes now with nothing but water, we decided to walk out. Conclusion: Admittedly, the interior is very beautiful -- especially the bar area. The food is mediocre (from what I recall) and over-priced. The service, however, is absolutely unacceptable. read more
