    Chicken Shawarma
    Melissa C.

Stopped for dinner on a Monday evening. Restaurant was empty at 6pm. Had drinks, apps and dinner. Pros: Friendly staff. Food came out fast. Ordered fried zucchini cakes - tasty but undercooked. Two entrees - Chicken Kabob and Chicken Shawarma. The side salad (field greens, shredded carrot w/light vinaigrette and vegetable of the day (zucchini, carrots and broccoli) served were very nice and tasty. Had white wine that was advertised as dry and it was. All in all, not too bad. Cons: Two employees working the front of house upon arrival were dressed to workout at the gym. The table had very dirty salt and pepper shakers and the bench seating was very worn out. The appetizer was undercooked. The entries in both cases lacked flavor and were underwhelming. The chicken kabob had the consistency of being cooked at least one day prior and given how fast it came out of the kitchen, was likely microwaved. The chicken shawarma was all dark meat (probably as it should be) but even given this was very, very bland. In this town, Monday is not an "eat out" night and likely not the best day to try this place. Overall, the food had some promise and we will try again.

Anatolias is a Turkish /greek restaurant. It has a lot of potential. I get the feeling that a lot of love and effort went into establishing this place but that has waned. The restaurant was dirty dust bunnies on the wall at eye level, dried food on the window frame, and scotch tape holding a picture in its frame are the things I could see right next to my table. The menu looks exciting but about half of the entrees were not available. I ordered chicken shawarma and hummus both were tasty. The wine was a Greek red and it was delicious. Wait staff was ok, I ordered a side of feta and it was forgotten, but she did check on me. The ambience was good minus the dirt and they have outside seating that looks amazing for summer time. It's a shame this could be an easy 4 star and possibly a 5 with some extra attention to detail.

    Mouhammara with pita and carrots

Service: I made a quick appointment online for 4 the same night. When we arrived there was only one other table present. We were able to place our orders quickly, but there was quite a delay in getting our food after that. They accommodated the arrival of additional party members who came briefly for company and not to dine. Food: I had the mouhammara to start. It had gorgeous deep red and a decent spice, which paired nicely with the sweetness of the carrots. For main courses, we had the lamb shank, saksuka, manti, and the stuffed peppers. The lamb was average in flavor and texture. I think it could have used more seasoning and/or flavor. The same could be said of the other dishes. The eggplant in the saksuka was not mushy. The manti felt like eating Italian raviolis but with a creamier base. The stuffed peppers were fine but came in good portion size. Ambience: It was relatively empty on a Monday night, so it felt intimate with just my dining party. There were a few customers who arrived later who seemed to be regulars and were familiar with the staff. It was a generally comfortable environment. They have nice tableware to elevate the experience. Value: $153.71 for an appetizer, 4 main courses, and a glass of wine. Overall, more than I would have valued the experience. This wouldn't be the first place I recommend others, but if you want to try Armenian, Kurdish, or Turkish cuisine in the area, then this is the place.

    BLAND Manti $24.99(!!!) 9/21/20

Went here for a special occasion on 9/21/20 and I left feeling ripped off. My husband picked out this place due to a suggestion on Open Table. Place was empty when we arrived for our reservation, except for a table of three women who would NOT SHUT UP about not believing in Covid and talking about being anti-maskers. I know one survived cancer, where they go to church, about their kids, because they were SO loud. Onto the food. My husband ordered a glass of wine ($9) and an appetizer of cheese borek ($12.99) for us to share and our entrees. When a plate of 4 small, flavourless rolls came out as our appetizer, that set the tone for the whole meal. $12.99 for what we received, was very off-putting. I had a platter of manti in Athens, Greece and loved it. When I saw it was on the menu here, I had to order it for my entree. When it came out in a regular sized bowl, with no sides or anything, I was SHOCKED at how expensive it was - $24.99!!! It was also incredibly bland and no amount of salt that I added could save it. My husband had the lamb shwarma plate for $21.99 and frankly, again, these prices aren't justified for what he received. We finished it off with a dessert of baklava which were 3 1-inch squares for $8.99! While the service was fine, the food was bland and overpriced. The Qanonsense crazies squawking away at their table put me over the edge. I felt cheated out of celebrating my special occasion after this meal, especially because we flew all the way from Las Vegas, where we live, to celebrate.

The food was wonderful and authentic. My husband is Turkish and they made him feel right at home. You get a lot of food for the value. Everyone there was so friendly and welcoming. I wish I took a picture of the lentil soup before I dug in.

We had some saganaki as an appetizer, and it was PERFECT! I highly recommend it for anyone trying this place out! For entrees, I got the Dolmades, and Dad got the Pasta Kotopuolo. My domades blew me away, and Dad got his first taste of Greek food in a few good years and he said he loved it! I got a few bites of his too, and I swear I died and went to heaven, it was too good! We also got some Greek lemon potatoes, and any chance to have potatoes is a good day! Pretty good portion sizes with everything, too! We also got my little cousin a gyro to go, and it DID NOT disappoint! The place was very fancy-looking, and had Greek music playing throughout the restaurant, so it really felt very cool and interesting! We met the owner(?), and she was very kind, and assured me about my nut allergy right off the bat Our server, kim, was very attentive, and made sure everything was absolutely 100% perfect before anything If I'm ever in Williamsburg again, im stopping by! 10/10

We ordered scordalia (Greek penicillin) as our appetizer and it came with Pita. It was a large portion and had good flavors of garlic and lemon. One of the specials of the day was the boneless marinated leg of lamb ( Arniso Boutaki Me Meli). My wife and I both ordered it and boy were we disappointed. It came with seasonal vegetables and lemon potatoes. What we got was tough grey lamb with a sauce that looked reminiscent of Salisbury steak. It didn't have much flavor and it was NOT tender. I cook lamb frequently and this was horrible. I could guarantee it was most likely microwaved and not braised in a rich sauce like it should be. We came after a long day exploring Williamsburg and we were so so hungry. The only real edible part was the vegetables. Also I wish they would give you more than 3 potato wedges. The potato could also use more of a lemon flavor it was hardly noticeable. The only reason we didn't give it 1 star was because our waiter gave us 10% off the entire bill because we complained about the dish.

None of us had ever had Yemeni food before so we were googling the names of all the dishes. We ordered three appetizers, three entrees, and three desserts. We all tried one another's dishes and not a single bite was bad. I would be hard-pressed to choose my favorite dish. Oh wait! I can choose a favorite - the mint lemonade! Oh my goodness, what a terrific, refreshing drink!!! The savory flavors of the foods, the textures, and presentation of everything were perfect. And everything came out quickly. We were all so full and happy! We lingered over our meal and we were not rushed at all. There were only a couple other full tables of customers so they didn't hurry our dining experience. We can't wait to go back and we vowed to tell everyone we know to come and experience Shibam.

And the food only paled in comparison to the service. I'm not sure if Alvaro is the owner or related to the proprietor--it's obvious he LOVES his job, he was engaging and knowledgeable and his recommendations were spot on. He suggested the Mezze platter as our appetizer (I ended up eating it as my entire meal). He also was so animated and excited about the buttery sauce that was used in the process of making the lamb chops, we ordered both purely because he was so confident we would like them. And that is where he made his mistake--we didn't LIKE them; we LOVED them! The lamb was cooked to perfection. The appetizer platter was an explosion of flavors--and trust me, the falafel alone is worth the trip back. All too often, falafel is made with the premise that bigger is better. Falafel can taste gummy and dry if it made too large. Baladi had mastered the perfect falafel. They make them small, crunchy and flavorful. Hands down, it was my favorite. And then I tasted the babaganouush! Oh my, my, my! I didn't think the falafel had competition, but that babaganouush nearly melted in my mouth. Look for me when you visit here because Baladi is my new favorite restaurant.
